Marcil and Maurice Benard (Sonny)

Party Preparations

Q: What advice would you give to this year's winners about planning their acceptance speech and staying on time so the show ends in two hours?

Marcil: I think that staying on time is our job, the people who are making the show. So I don't think the Emmy winners should be thinking or worried about that at all. And I think they should wear comfortable shoes because last year I wore heels I couldn't walk in and I was miserable because I didn't think in any way that I would be walking up the stairs and standing on the stage in these shoes because I only did a short stint on the show for six months, so I was really shocked that I won and I jotted down a few people's names because my best friend who was with me forced me to. So those are the two things that I would say...and I was happy that she did because when I got up there I couldn't remember anything. I couldn't even speak. So I would say wear comfortable shoes, and maybe jot down a few notes (laughs) because it's such a surreal moment. If you're like me, your brain just goes.

Q: The hosting thing of this show...Very often it's very difficult, I think, because sometimes people are very popular favorites, and then they host an awards show and they get panned or they don't do this or they flop. What would it make you feel like? Are you at all frightened?

Marcil: Who did that happen to?

Q: Well, how about David Letterman? When David Letterman hosted the Oscars, he bombed.

Marcil: I didn't know that, but David Letterman seems to be doing pretty well to me . . . I think when you're any kind of an artist and you're in the public eye on any level, it's just like anybody in any job, you're going to have your high moments and your low moments. And if you're a real artist, you just keep on going.

Q: Very often when people win awards, they get up there and they spout their political views. What is your opinion?

Marcil: I personally love that we have so many different people in our world, and I really enjoy every different kind of person. So I try my best, really, not to be judgmental and judge people's decisions to do things. People do what they feel is right in their heart, and I think it's what makes the world interesting . . . I also happen to like gutsy people, so even if I don't agree with what somebody is saying, I don't know, I get enjoyment out of watching people who are just kinda gutsy (laughs). It is entertaining. It does get you talking.

Q: First for the GH fans, don't you think you could take Carly and get Sonny back? I think they need to know. Wasn't Brenda his true love?

Marcil: I got to tell you that I don't think Brenda would need to take Carly. I think she could just get Sonny back without even-

Q: I think she could get him back.

Marcil: Definitely. Definitely.
