Carolyn's Take on The Emmys

As always, the nominations for the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are full of homeruns, surprises, and a few lemons.
It's ridiculous that ONE LIFE TO LIVE is not included in the OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES or WRITING category. It was easily in the top three in 2010 in both categories, as well as very consistent in a year full of inconsistencies. For inconsistency, you couldn't beat the coast guard delivering Zach's duffle bag, freshly fished out of the ocean yet not even wet, to Kendall in an unmarked cave on a dessert island on AMC. Best show? I think not.
That said, I don't think the episode OLTL submitted, "Starr X'd Lovers: The Musical" showed it at its best. And it certainly wasn't one of the best episodes of the year. I know the shows aren't supposed to write "Emmy episodes" but some do — and OLTL should.
In the homerun category, I would like to cite the following fresh faces:
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
Debbi Morgan (Angie, AMC)
Laura Wright (Carly, GH)
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake, AMC)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Tricia Cast (Nina, Y&R)
Melissa Claire Egan (ex-Annie, AMC)
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH)
Bree Williamson (Jessica, OLTL)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jonathan Jackson (Lucky, GH)
Jason Thompson (Patrick, GH)
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
Lexi Ainsworth (Kristina, GH)
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
Chad Duell (Michael, GH)
As for the distinction between Lead and Supporting, it is up to the actor to choose which category they want to be in. Some confuse the ROLE with the ACTOR, thinking, "I am not supporting!" But if their role WAS supporting in 2010, they won't have a solid enough tape to get a nod for lead. I think Y&R's Jeanne Cooper is a good example of that in 2010. Great actress; not a lot to do.
Everyone has their faves who weren't nominated, but overall the nods are spread pretty evenly, and ATWT even got some love. So let's look forward to the show airing live on CBS on June 19 from Las Vegas, and be grateful that we will be able to celebrate seven soaps, some for the last time.
Now THAT'S a lemon.

facebook

Dear Ms Hinsey,

I am loyal soap fan, ABC shows of course, vey discouraged at the state of affairs on  the network, I was a subscriber to your facebook page as well as few other columnist, to preview spoilers and such, after reading a spoiler blog I learned about Delibernation, I found it interesting and thought there might be some merit behind it. I rarely post on your page, however I did post about this site, I did so in hopes of getting soap fans to have a united front. I have found out today that I was blocked and deleted from your page. I honestly wasnt aware that what I did was wrong. I would like to profusely appologize if I offended anyone/you or broke any rules, I honestly had NO IDEA. I am a subscriber to SOD, I impatiently wait every week to get my copy in the mail. I am saddened by the fact that I can longer see what people are saying or have any knowlege of what is going in the soap world on facbook land. Whatever I did it was a huge mistake, and honestly would take it back if I could, I am very sorry, again, I didnt know that I did anything wrong.

Emmy Noms / a few casting ideas

I agree, I think Laura Wright has been lights out on GH! Same for Tricia Cast on Y&R, she really did her best work this past year. Where is Sharon Case on Y&R's ballot this year? She drove story all of last year, and has been an asset to the canvas since the early 90's. I have to admit, it gets old having the same people always nominated (Phyllis and Katherine, whom I love dearly, but spread the love already!). In the same category as Sharon Case, where the hell is Katherine Kelly Lang from B&B? Her and Susan Flannery should be nominated every year for their comic duo love/hate relationship. And if Jonathan Jackson doesn't win his category, the Emmys will be the biggest joke ever! I have loved all 3 actors who have portrayed Lucky Spencer, but JJ really brings it home!

Now, onto a few ideas for the casts that will soon be out of a job (sorry if it's too soon AMC/OLTL followers, but your loss needs to be daytimes gain):

- Bring back Tuc Watkins as Dr. Dorman on GH. Yes his character provided one of the best murder mysteries of all time, but I would love to have him mix up with the GH hospital staff again! And it would be great to see Monicas reaction.

- Cast Terri Conn as Courtney on GH. I know she died during the outbreak, but once again, people will suspend belief if a character that was root worthy came back to the canvas. Nikolas needs some lovin, and heck Jax for that matter too!

- Bring back Bobbi Eakes and Jacob Young back to B&B as Macy and Rick respectively. Thorne needs to be front and center and, and without Sally around, her children atleast need to be integrated. Macy always kind of was the heart of that show back in the 90's. As far as Rick goes, I don't know where Kyle Lowder went, but I would take Jacob back in a heartbeat. He could mix it up with Steffy or Amber or even Jackie again.

- Cast Van Hansis as Lucas on GH. What ATWT did with his character Luke, I think Van could bring to Lucas. That story was there for 5 minutes and it was blink and you missed it, but the potential to really delve into his life would be worth it. Tony and Bobbie living wrecklessly alone would provide motivation for Lucas acting out/finding himself. Don't even get me started on the fact that Jackie Zeman (Bobbie) wasn't there for Carly or Luke in their times of need.

wth

where are this week's recaps???????

Emmy noms

Sorry, I meant that "since most of the CHARACTERS are super-rich" on the show, not that the actors are...

My error!

Emmy noms

I actually thought it was kind of funny that Y&R received a nom for "Hair and Make-up" when most of the time the women on the show have hair that looks as though they just jumped out of bed (or they're common folks, like the viewers, on a bad day).

Considering that most of them are super-rich, you'd think they'd have someone there to do their hair, or would go and have their hair done, at least once a week or so.  It would be NICE to actually see the show with decently styled womens' hair for a change, not that "I couldn't be bothered to even run a brush through it today" look most of the ladies are wearing...

Thanks for letting me "speak!"
