Frequent readers of my blog (and I hope there are more than five of you) know what a big MAD MEN fan I am. My second favorite show that aired last summer was FX's DAMAGES. It was a very complex, brilliant legal-type drama staring a magnificent Glenn Close. I was really excited to read that William Hurt would be the guest star of the second season. Hurt is my George Clooney, Brad Pitt, etc., plus he can really act. (Read between those lines if you will.) I've seen him on the stage and in practically every one of his movies, though he's sort of become more of a character actor.

Fast forward to yesterday around 5:30. Marc, one of my co-workers, came in to tell me they were filming DAMAGES around the corner. I grabbed Marc and said we were going there immediately to check it out. We approached the filming site and I saw a man smoking a cigar sitting in a director's chair. I figured (and I'm so clever) he wasn't a crew guy. "So, mister, I'm sort of important...who is taping here?" I asked, using all my charm. "Well, this is DAMAGES," he explained. I told him how much I loved the show and asked if Glenn Close and William Hurt were there. He said, "Well, as I work for her, she's here." BINGO. Thirty seconds later Glenn and William walk out of the building. It was a Big Chill moment for Gabby. They looked great. Rested. Tanned. Dressed in their natural wardrobe of preppy khakis. (They both could be mature models for the Preppy Handbook revisited. It's in their DNA.)

Okay, before you ask, I did not talk to them. I just stared and returned to my desk.

It was a moment.
