The Kids Are Alright
By Naomi Rabinowitz Posted: Mar 18, 2011For the most part, I like B&B's younger set, Hope, Steffy, Thomas, Liam, Oliver and Amber. But while their various love triangles and paternity problems (thanks, Amber) are fun to watch, I'd love to see some storylines where they're just well, kids. Hope is barely out of high school, yet she's already met two guys who could possibly be the love of her life and is upset that Liam is allegedly the father of Amber's baby. What about college or girlfriends? Hope has always had things handed to her; it would be interesting to see her struggling to deal with classes, as well as her job at Forrester Creations. It would also be enjoyable to see her simply hanging out with friends, rather than mooning over boys all the time. Meanwhile Steffy has her sights set on married man, Bill. Imagine if instead she were in a storyline where she decided that she doesn't want to be in fashion and wants to do something else — outside of FC. There could still be conflict within her own family, but she'd be able to branch out a little, beyond just being sent to FC's Paris division. As for the guys, we're seeing Thomas beginning to step out on his own, which I like, but again, it would be great to see them doing the types of things that 20something guys do. Oliver has had a few scenes where he's hung out having beers, but Liam and Thomas act like they're so much older. Picture Ollie, Thomas, Liam and Marcus have a guys' night out — especially since they've all been involved with Amber in some capacity. Could you imagine that conversation?!
I realize that B&B is limited because it's only a half hour show and only so many storylines can make it on the air. Still, it wouldn't hurt to have even just a few scenes where we can see these characters let loose and be young.
