Study This
By Lynn Leahey Posted: Apr 26, 2011Not that soap fans need an academic study to prove losing a show is traumatic, but they have one now. A recent study, published in the April 2011 issue of the journal Mass Communication and Society, showed that the anguish of missing a show is very real. And information from this study was gathered during the writer's strike of 2007-8, when at least viewers had the comfort of knowing their faves would probably be back. AMC, OLTL (not to mention ATWT and GL) fans have no such consolation. But at least there's now proof that they're not alone in their very real grief.

I am having trouble with my DVR these days and it's not recording Y&R as it should. I get really cranky & pissy when it doesn't record and I can't watch it at the time I normally do. I usually record it twice a day, once from CBS and once from SoapNet (just in case President Obama or some other breaking news event interupts the CBS showing). Now, that SoapNet is going away soon, I won't be able to do that anymore. I hate watching it on my computer, but at least I still have that as an option. I really feel for the fans who are losing AMC & OLTL. Those fans won't be so lucky. My heart goes out to you.
I am 28 years old and I am in the age group that ABC is saying wants change. I am so devastated and angry on the decision to cancel 2 shows that have meant so much to me and my family for years. The grief is real and I am willing to lash out and protest to keep my shows because I don't want to try and fill the void. I resent ABC for doing this and not really considering what the fans really want. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to save All My Children and One Life to Live from going off the air. I will remain a loyal General Hospital fan but will constantly fear the threat of that one going too. Please don't do this ABC! I don't think you would appreciate being stripped of something you care a great deal about and feeling so powerless. Keep my shows!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 20 year old daughter and a 22 year old son ( he is in the USMC) they BOTH watch soaps. My daughter likes AMC. My son like GH, he thinks AMC is ok, but is more into the Jason/ Sonny stuff. Anyway lets face the facts that the ABC exec's are simply lieing. They have done nothing buy lie.
All ages like soaps except the little kiddies. From Teens to elderly. They elderly and disabled are who I feel most sorry for. The Soaps are their main entertainment.
Due to their lie's and hurting the elderly, disabled and myself is my reason I will no longer watch ABC except for my 3 Soaps. Once OLTL is off and Soapnet is off the air I will completly keep ABC off except for my local news.
