Consistently strong writing and Eric Braeden's powerful performances as YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Victor Newman have succeeded in making the manipulative magnate a character I like to loathe. Unfortunately, that "strong writing" part sank a bit the second Colleen's heart hit the villain's body. MORE

Today I was completely enthralled by a highly-anticipated character being introduced via an art show. No, I don't mean James Franco on GH. I mean Paul Leyden's Simon Frasier on ATWT! MORE

First impressions of GENERAL HOSPITAL's Franco, as portrayed by movie star James Franco? Cautiously optimistic. Franco the actor did not have a chance to really do much beyond act all shadowy and mysterious. MORE

Did everyone watch ATWT today? Jack's hunt for Simon brought him and Carly to Pittsburgh, PA. Last month, I was lucky enough to follow along with the cast and crew on the trip to the Steel City while they filmed the scenes. MORE

I'm curious as to why ATWT's Molly isn't being accosted by the press after exposing her affair with a prominent congressman on live TV. You know darn well that if such a scandal like that became public, reporters galore would be swarming her for the dirty details. MORE

Vamp-ing It Up
Soap Opera Weekly put The CW's hit series THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on the cover of our 20th Anniversary issue (dated Nov. 24, 2009 and hitting the stands on Nov. 13), and for those of you who think that's stretching the definition of soap opera, read on. Weekly has a grand tradition of covering prime-time soaps. MORE

I'm really enjoying the recent drama between half brothers Nick and Adam on YOUNG AND RESTLESS as they clash over Adam's friendship with Sharon, as well as having to work together at Newman Enterprises. MORE

Something that always makes me crazy on shows is that houses don't seem to have guest rooms (except for Emma's house on ATWT; that place apparently has enough bedrooms to hold the whole town of Oakdale). MORE

The DAYS OF OUR LIVES wardrobe department really deserves kudos for their adept job at camouflaging actress Arianne Zucker's (Nicole) burgeoning belly. The actress is 7 1/2 months pregnant, but you'd never know it. You can barely tell on screen. MORE

There was an interesting article in yesterday's New York Times, explaining how the U.S. Census Bureau is using a storyline in a Spanish-language soap opera to help wary Hispanics get comfortable with the census process. MORE

Yay to GH for acknowledging Edward and Lila's wedding anniversary on today's show! In an era of dwindling Quartermaines, it was a fond tribute to our much missed and beloved matriarch, Anna Lee (ex-Lila). MORE

I've been meaning to blog about this for some time but wanted to wait until it played out on-screen, which has only further reinforced my feeling that Alexis's affair with the mayor on GENERAL HOSPITAL is a bunch of poppycock. MORE

YouTube has made our lives here at the Digest a lot easier — there's no more reliable way of fact-checking than going straight to the source, and with such a wide array of vintage clips available online, we frequently luck out and find the very scene readers have a question about or that we want to describe accurately in something we're writing. It's been a while since I blogged; my apologies. Where to start? Between the Mets, MAD MEN, and MSNBC for political stuff, there's been a lot of nighttime TV viewing lately. Still crazy about OLTL, too. It appears the 1968 stuff has wrapped up. MORE
