I'm not the biggest fan of self-improvement reality shows, but there's something about UNDERCOVER BOSS that really connects with audiences (and okay, yes, me).

I am always happy when September rolls around and my fave nighttime soaps return, but I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed with the recycled plotlines I've seen so far. The biggest offender (and most boring story) by far is ONE TREE HILL's Clay and — oh my, God, Haley's sister is so boring I can't even remember the character's name — his lady love languishing in this beachy paradise when they're really in comas.

I've really been enjoying the scenes between BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's Bill and Liam, as they get to know each other as father and son. Don Diamont (Bill) and Scott Clifton (Liam) have great chemistry, and the storyline has also allowed Heather Tom (Katie) and Kimberly Matula (Hope) to shine.

I know Y&R's Billy and Victoria are supposed to be Genoa City's root-for young couple, but I've fallen for J.T. and Mac! And, believe me, it's a little strange to be saying that...considering that during their last go-round, from 2005-2006, I found them coma-inducing. Rachel Kimsey was Mac at the time, and I spent more time hoping Mac would get together with Kevin than paying one whit of attention to her relationship with J.T.

If you're a fan of police procedurals and gorgeous scenery, handsome men and beautiful women — and come on, who isn't? — prepare to make time for the reboot of HAWAII FIVE-0. The new series has decorated ex-Naval officer Steve McGarrett (in the hunky form of Aussie Alex O'Loughlin) returning to Oahu to catch the low-life smuggler (actually, his brother; it's a long story) who killed McGarrett's father. In no time flat, McGarrett's asked to head a new task force by Governor Pat Jameson (Jean Smart, excellent as always, but underused; note to showrunners: when you've got gold, mine it!)…with the proviso, of course, that McGarrett can use whatever time he makes to find dad's killer.

The new fall season is getting under way in stages, and I have to say that the new shows I have started watching are not exactly blowing my socks off.

AS THE WORLD TURNS's Jack and Carly got married yesterday for, like, the 17th time and, thanks to cancellation, fans can be pretty sure that it will stick this time. But what caught my attention about their 42nd stroll down the aisle was that the vows Jack and Carly wrote for themselves focused quite a bit on the negative.

In soaps, lying and crying are easy; comedy is hard. This is why one of several reasons I unabashedly love YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Billy and Victoria.

It's the final week of ATWT (sniff!) and I was, admittedly, dubious about the show cramming everything (a death, wedding and birth) into the last few episodes. With all the time they had to tell story, why wait until the end? But I'm surprisingly pleased with how fluid the transition from one momentous event to the other has carried out on screen.

As much as I love drama on soaps, I really like when we're shown those quieter "slice of life" scenes that makes us belief that these characters actually live normal, mundane lives in between the action.
