Let me begin this by stating that I do not condone violence in real life, unless it's absolutely necessary. That said, I don't mind a slap or a catfight every now and then on the soaps, especially if it's in a very dramatic scene and the move adds uh, punch, to the story.

What does GENERAL HOSPITAL have against Brook Lynn? She was brought back to Port Charles as a hired...er, gun to break up Lulu and Dante by sleeping with him (and documenting it). Already hounded by charges of credit-card fraud, Brook accepted the job as a prostitute. Then, yesterday, she became something worse than a scam artist/hooker: She became a would-be rapist, stopped just short of her goal.

I hate to say this about my favorite soap, but it's been hurtin' since Adam and Brooke left town. For the first five months of the year, as Lorraine Broderick supervised the show's scripts in between head writers, ALL MY CHILDREN rocked. The show did everything it was supposed to do: brought back Jack and Brooke; celebrated the soap's 40th anniversary in an interesting and moving way, bringing back Hayley, Mateo, Maria and others in the process; offered a touching memorial to the late James Mitchell (and his character, Palmer) which also opened the door to a new generation of Cortlandt/Chandler feuding; and on and on. For a long-time viewer (since 1982), it was heaven.

So...that was it? After weeks and weeks and weeks of hype that culminated in surrendering an entire afternoon's programming to reruns, GENERAL HOSPITAL refrained from revealing Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo's face until the very last seconds of Wednesday's episode. And when she finally did appear, Ms. Brenda Barrett did not speak a single word!

I'm not usually a big fan of corporate storylines, but I'm enjoying the fighting within Forrester Creations on BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL, mainly because the plot isn't so much about the company, but about the characters' relationships.

I usually try to avoid any and all spoilers before seeing a thriller, so I went into Angelina Jolie's spy flick, Salt, with blinders on. (And, never fear, I won't spoil anything here.) I knew the plot concerned a CIA operative accused of being a Russian sleeper agent, and I was determined not to ruin any surprise.

I really like the idea of Gloria and Jeff owning Genoa City's hottest new club on Y&R. The terrible twosome are always fun to watch, but for too long they've been floating from one location to another — the Abbott mansion, the G.C.A.C., Phyllis's penthouse — and from one storyline to the next.

Many a Will has come and gone over the years on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, but never has an actor fit the bill so perfectly as Chandler Massey. Blonde haired, blue-eyed Massey really looks like he could be Alison Sweeney's (Sami) son — okay, except for maybe the age thing — and his acting is fueled with the same fire as his TV mom, too.

Has anyone else noticed this week's trend on ONE LIFE TO LIVE of characters unburdening their problems to completely random people? It started with Natalie, who as far as I can remember, is not friends with Gigi, telling the Rodi's waitress all about her pregnancy. Um, John is Gigi's boss, so if she doesn't want John to find out that she might be having his baby, maybe she should have gone elsewhere?

Between PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, MAKE IT OR BREAK IT, and WHITE COLLAR Tuesday nights are THE best TV night for me this summer. I even told my family not to call me between 8 and 10! Invite me somewhere, and I guarantee I will trump up a lame excuse not to be there, because I've got shows to watch!

I know I've already praised PLL and MIOBI in past entries (June 30 and Feb. 17, respectively), but I really can't say enough good things about these programs. ABC Family gets flak, I think, because people associate it with stuff like THE 700 CLUB and the preachy THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER. (I was talking to a friend this weekend, who is a high school senior, and he astutely observed that "Everybody gets pregnant on that show. Even the mom!" LOL!) But the bulk of the network's original programming is just that: original.
