"I grew up watching and loving soap operas," THE VAMPIRE DIARIES' executive producer Julie Plec, tweeted on Thursday, April 14. "Today's ABC news makes me sad." That night, after the cancellation of AMC and OLTL, I went home and watched Plec's show, taking some solace in the adventures of Elena, Damon, Stefan, Caroline, Bonnie and Jeremy.

Dear ABC,
Regarding the cancellations of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIVE TO LIVE, people have been throwing around terms like "creative bankruptcy." Considering the net is replacing the iconic soaps with a food show (THE CHEW) and a weight-loss show (THE REVOLUTION), who can argue? THE CHEW? Really?

Today, I was going to post an entry about how well ONE LIFE TO LIVE is doing with its bullying story, or maybe how interesting and refreshing it is that YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Sharon is getting to know a new guy far from Genoa City. But on this Earth Day, I have a brief message.

It's a hallmark of daytime characters that they never learn from the past; they keep jumping to wrong conclusions, believing lies, and fecklessly accepting assumptions. (Honestly, it's like they don't know they're just characters on a TV show!)

FOUL! Why would anyone in Genoa City accept Adam's identification of Sharon's supposedly dead body, just because his mother's engagement ring was on the corpse??? In 2008, he claimed that the dismembered body found in the Newman stables was that of his former girlfriend, Skye, who was reportedly murdered by David Chow for beating him in poker.

First of all, how great is Hoover? "My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover," wrote Hoover VP of marketing Brian Kirkendall.

Hoover left its competition in the dust with its immediate, personal response to the news that AMC and OLTL were being canceled.

At this very challenging time for daytime soap operas, which are still very much alive, I have a word to current soap viewers. I know that some recent events (such as a sorrowful Nicole and Taylor mourning their mom throughout DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Salem, and YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Lily keeping secret her visions of her deceased husband Cane) have made it challenging or difficult to watch today's soaps, but I'm asking in the strongest way possible: Do not give up.

As an only child myself, I'm really enjoying the relationships between B&B's siblings. Brooke, Katie and Donna are more than just sisters; they're best friends. They may argue from time to time, but they truly love each other.

According to Y&R, those state troopers in New Mexico have varying degrees of attentiveness. When Sharon got pulled over for a non-working taillight, the trooper looked at her forged driver's license, then let her go.
