I admit it..
I tuned in to see the 40th anniversary tribute and what a mistake...
I've watched the show since almost day one...
While it was great to see those great characters I miss so much:
Zendall, Joe/Ruth, Brook, Palmer, Greg
and those who I miss a little or not at all:
Miss a little:
Hayley/Mateo, Jack, Lily
Not at all:
Maria "Boom Boom" Santos ...
The 40th Anniversary was more a tribute to Charles Pratt's decimation, then it was to 40 years in PV...
I cried at the flashbacks of Mona, Jenny/Greg, Myrtle's funeral, Myrtle, Zendall....
I could not believe that they infested it with flashbacks of Pratt's destruction...
Erica singing the praises of BOB calling her a ray of hope made me want to vomit...
Did they forget that Pratt's not so ground breaking story about a same sex couple that never was, and his creation of BOB destroyed a legacy character, Bianca...damaged a great character, Zach and the majority of the viewers want a rewrite!!!
I was ticked that they didn't showcase more about Pine Valley's 40 years, instead of showcasing so much of Pratt's vile destruction...
I guess now we know why he was fired....because to even mention anything that happened this last year was stupid, insulting, BAD!!!
I wanted to see something good.... I started to, but Pratt's tribute to himself ruined it for me...
Any thoughts....
I saw today's show..I liked some of it more than I expected...and some less than I expected.
First of all, I dunno..I was ok with Kelly Ripa when she was on the show but she has become a TV personality over the years and she is no longer Haley, she IS Kelly Ripa. I fount it terribly distracting. Adding her hubby Mark..also very distracting as we see them so often together on Regis and Kelly. They are no longer characters and it took me out of the show.
That said, I loved watching the old old clips that I mostly remember - there was not enough of them but I appreciated seeing what I did. I just wanted more.
I liked the nice memorial moments for Myrtle and was OK that they dealt with her relationship with Erica. But iIt was criminal there was no photo or no mention of her relationship with Zach. It was a huge omission and really a slap in the face to Eileen who loved TK so much.
I thought it was cruel that they used Emma in her her red slippers to say Pine Valley is home.."There is no place like home"., she said...when obviously Lucy Merriam is never going to set foot in PV again as she is being replaced by a CA actress.
It was also a little weird to show NUBabe and not original Babe - when most of the comments related to original Babe...and no Jamie in sight when they were talking about the Martins. Who did they pi** off?
Also UNBELIEVALBE to include Erica and Ryan in their segment of supercouples. The gaul of Charles Pratt knows no bounds. And not just a mention..a hard sell!!!!
I was unmoved with the talk of Stuart's death, since just a week ago Adam was gloating about getting away with murder.....and bored by all the references to Annie and Adam. Haley interviewing Annie was longer than her talking with her brother JR, who has cancer. That's just ridiculous and self serving.
OK..will stop being objective. Zen were gorgeous. I could watch them all day. I thank whoever decided to put them into this show, when it seemed like their scenes were isolated and probably an afterthought.. when obviously Pratt had no intention to highlight the couple that basically helped end his career at AMC.
Basically the problem with this show was IMO that too much time was spent honoring Charles Pratt's storylines (even the ones that bombed) and less was spend in the previous 39 years...which in an anniversary show is - to be it politely ..not appropriate.
Kathy, great post...
You explained it a lot better than I did....
I did like a few things.... Seeing Palmer, Brook, Greg...
LL is still gorgeous and those very few short scenes he had made me cry....
Yes folks, I did cry.....
I also loved the Jesse/Jenny flashbacks and a few of the other old flashbacks, Opal/Palmer, Brook, etc...
but agaiin, they were few...
I hated that Pratt used the 40th anniversary to showcase the destruction & decimation of AMC he created...
I was also angry that they neglected to add Zach to Myrtle's tribute..... Zyrtle was one of AMC greatest friendships of all times.....
I hated the focus on the twister and BOB being called a ray of hope.... GMAFB.... For the first time that I know of masses of fans wished that a soap baby didn't exist..... that story decimated Bianca & damaged Zach...
Why remind fans of that disaster...
Also, I actually almost hurled when Ryass talked about helping to rebuild after the twisters from hell....
Refresh my memory, but the only thing Ryass did during & after the twisters was chase after Aidan's wife, work to drive ANnie even more insane so that he could shove her in a nuthouse, then dump Emma off to Opal so that he could continue to sex it up with Aidan's wife GL...and plan a wedding to GL while both were still married...
I also hated the RyErica crap..... Take about vile.... There is little to NO fan support for this pairing from hell...
Way too much ANnie.....
I give credit for having the flashbacks for the "REAL" AMC with Brook, Greg, Jack, etc, but Pratt showcasing his garbage should never have been allowed...
No wonder some of the actors/actresses were upset over the 40th anniversary...
More Proof Frons should go...because he allowed this crap again...
I also wanted to say that I was upset that there was no mention of Josh.....
Erica Kane & Jeff Martin's son....
Instead of talking about losing Josh and his heart being used to save Kendall, we got BOB crap...
As much as I hated the unaborted fetus story, I grew to love Josh, Josh/Kendall, Josh/Zach.....Pratt destroyed that also, but I still thought he should have been mentioned in the loss section...
I also felt nothing when Adam was talking about Stuart, considering his spitting on Stuart with this Annie crap....
Also, I loved seeing Nina.....
Probably forgot a few more things, but you know how that goes...
Now, I go back to not watching again.....until Zendall return....and I mean, Thorsten Kaye/Zach & Alicia Minshew/Kendall..
No recast will be accepted...
What happen to Aut Phoebe??? The only mention of her was ehen Brooke talked about when she first came to town. There wasn't much about Mona either. I have only watched AMC for over 10 years, but I made sure I knew my AMC history. That's what the show should have been about.
Pratt should have watched the GH anniversary show. That was a wonderful tribute. All Pratt did with this landmark show was remind everyone of his reprehensible storylines and disregard of history, even on the anniversary show. He shouldn't have merely been fired, he should have been banned from the writer's guild and forced to pay back every dime ABC paid him over the year... the man is a disgrace to the writing profession.
I agree with just about everyone. When will Pratt's reign of terror end? I will be so happy when his stories are finally wrapped up. That anniversary special was a crime. They barely mentioned any of the stories that have made AMC what it is. They fluffed over DIxie/Tad...one of THE biggest super couples of AMC. Too bad they didn't show any of Tad's previous bad behavior with Liza/Marion. I mean, I get it, Liza is being played by another actress, but the viewers can turn a blind eye on the fact they are played by two different women...we really would have liked to see those clips. And what about when Amanda was giving her spill...Could we not see some old clips of Janet/Natalie/Trevor. The story between that trio was epic. I mean, come on...Amanda's mother pushed her sister down a well and left her there for weeks. There wasn't enough time devoted to Brooke. I still cry to this day when I see her reaction to Laura's death. She is an amazing talent and I am so happy that she is returning. Was definitely not enough time devoted to Maria, who was apart of my all time favorite couple...Edmund/Maria. Remember when Erica finally gave Maria her baby back? Too bad they didn't show any of that.I am so sick of this Ryan/Erica crap. How sick is it that Ryan is now dating the mother of one of his ex's? Get it right AMC, and put Erica back with Jackson....the man she is meant to be with. Hurry up and bring Greenlee back into the picture so, she and Ryan can be together. It was just a really bad Anniversary show, that was a big disappointment for the fans. Charles Pratt should never be allowed to write for any show, EVER AGAIN!! I have never been so mad at the writers of a show! Even though this last year has been horrible...and it has been. I am thankful to ABC for not giving up on the show, and I am very hopeful for the future of AMC. But here's some advice Writers of AMC....find a way to bring Dixie, the ORIGINAL BABE, and Jackson back....And it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring a recast of Dimitri back. Pull out your history books, study AMC of the 90's and let's get our AMC back!!
Was so disappointed with the show. I liked seeing Kelly Ripa and she seemed to fall into the role as Haley fine for me. I was just so upset they didn't show more clips and pictures from all the old shows. What about Marc, Erica's brother, his wife Ellen. So many people missing. They could have done a video montage at the end and show us all the people who have been on over the years, it would have been nice with a pretty song playing. I was really hoping for that. I am sorry to say but the anniversary show didn't measure up. I remember watching As The World Turns anniversary show and crying my eyes out at the time and that was a long time ago. They did a video montage with all the different characters and actors who played the parts over the years. I am sorry I watched it, so disappointed.
Quote: Pratt should have watched the GH anniversary show. That was a wonderful tribute. If you're referring to the 45th Anniversary episode, IMO it was just as bad if not worse than what Pratt did. They did some clips at the end, but other than that it was a tribute to Sonny and Jason

I cold not agree more. You said it perfectly. I was so disappointed with the lack of older stuff from the show. And the thing that made me the most disgusted was them showing Zach delivering Gaby. That was the worst storyline in AMC history. Even worse than Josh the unaborted son. They destroyed Zach and Bianca with that storyline, and then to highlight it in the anniversary show was a slap in the face to all the loyal viewers.Thankfully Pratt is gone now and maybe the show will return in the right direction. To quote another Wizard of Oz line, "Ding dong the Witch is Dead."

Your right GH did a good job. I remember crying a bit. AMC's did a sad job.

Overall, it was very meh, IMO. I liked the idea of the characters talking directly to the camera, but it was too much in one episode, and I would have liked to have seen the clips, preferably if the clips were from, say, the past 40 years, and not mostly from the last 18 months, which coincidentally was the time Pratt was HW on AMC. I was thrilled to see TK and AM participate in the show, and delighted with as many Zach clips as there were. But I had zero emotional reaction to the show. No tears, no awww moment for me, and that's because of the hurried feeling the episode had, and the sense I had from the start that the show was more about selling the audience on AMC as it moves to California ("I'm a lifer" and "We're not going anywhere" screamed "Watch us when we move out west even though some of your favorites won't be there") and promoting storylines I already know I don't want to see--RyErica, Annie/Adam, Jake stunningly being Trevor's father when that's biologically impossible, and Tad and Liza becoming a couple. AMC's problems were front and center in this special episode, whether it was the stories AMC was promoting or the inexcusable way that AMC didn't use its vast history and show clips from 4 decades instead of just the last year and a half. Shame on AMC and on Pratt for not making this episode better than this.
