I hated the so-called 45th anniversary montage. That was how they paid tribute to a soap with such rich history, such unique characters. THAT? One would think nothing happened before 1994 or that viewers didn't love couples like Duke/Anna, Robert/Holly, Steve/Audrey, Scott/Lucy, Mac/Felicia, Frisco/Felicia, Tony/Bobbie & Rick/Lesley, Alan/Monica. We had one, ONE scene of the man who was the rock of General Hospital(no not Luke), Steve Hardy. What about Lucy, Dominique, Duke, Anna, Robert, Holly? What about Amy VIning, & Jessie Brewer? Sean & Tiffany's wedding? The Aztec adventure with Frisco & Felicia? What about Tony's propsal to Bobbie? or Ryan Chamberlain, Cesar Faison, Grant Putnam, Helena Cassadine? 45 YEARS and that was the best they could come up with? Special effects & Mobsters r us . . . and they wonder why ratings stink?
I know it's not just GH that does it. Good Lord, they got rid of Martha Byrne on ATWT just last week! I don't understand how soaps expect to survive when they continually show no respect to history. But heh, it's just my opinion.

I hope you managed to catch our April 6 cover-dated issue, which marked the anniversary with a page of photos from the past, including (gasp) the 1970s.
I remember when the soap magazines were meant as complementary to soaps big anniversary specials. These days it seems like only the mags remember the rich history of soaps.
I watched GH yesterday (when they had a 12-year-old kid get SHOT) & all I could think was, where are the Quatermaines! They should be pivital in this story, hell they should be trying to take that kid away from those good-for-nothing so called parents & bring him back into their family. That "high drama" would have had twice as much meaning with Alan, Monica & Edward (not to mention the boy's real father AJ). Emily(who repeatedly chose Jason's side over the safer brother) should have been there. Bobbie (who helped Carly get over her PTS in the middle of a snow-storm) should have been there. Tony (who thought that little boy was his) should have been there. Monica (whose drunken rages at Jason were the highlight of the scabs run) should be there trashing those people for destroying that little boy's life. And Edward should be bribing judges all over the upper NYS to take that boy away from those mobsters. That would be amazing use of HISTORY. Oh, but wait, this is GH, if you don't kill people for a living on this show, you don't matter at all the writers.
Hey, this Mala checking in here in an Admin capacity. While I understand your frustration, we can't have terms like "TIIC" being thrown about, as they are a personal attack. I have edited your post accordingly. Thanks!
Anybdy - You are right in so many ways about the lost story potential and the fabulous dramatic scenes that could have been, if the Q family wasn't completely destroyed by the current PTB. I imagine the writers sitting around a table saying that there just isn't any story potential left for characters that have been on the canvas for 30 years, so let's start killing them off. Even Monica, who railed at Jason when Emily died, "forgave" him for Michael's shooting in one throw-away scene from rehab. What a loss!

We have been exposed to scab writing lately. Maybe things will get better. or at least we can hope.
