Bold and Beautiful Recaps

B&B Week of August 4, 2008

Monday

Poor Eric couldn't appreciate the jaunty montage that preceded Donna coming into his hospital room. As for Donna, she was horrified to see Honey Bear on a respirator. Bridget soon showed up to explain Eric's condition to her.
"It's a waiting game," she said, grimly, talking about how there were no miracle cures. Bridget and Auntie Donna held hands over Eric's still form and cried a lot. Bridget told Donna that long-term care for Eric at home would be incredibly hard on her. Donna refused to give up hope.

At Nick's, Jackie came down from playing with Jack and wondered if Nick misses Katie. At the hospital, pregnant Katie haltingly assured Bridget she's fine and apologized for scaring her clueless niece. When Bridget went into the hall, Katie pleaded with Dr. Patrick to stay mum and then reeled from the revelation. Cue a flashback to Catalina and Nick "comforting" the transplant patient. Bridget caught her crying. Katie started rambling about "this sick joke," and pleaded with Bridget to go. Then, Dr. Caspary talked about how high risk the pregnancy is and how it could lead to Katie rejecting her heart again. Overwhelmed Katie nearly passed out, but she rallied in time for Dr. Caspary to talk about what a medical miracle she is. (Of course!) Back at the Marone manse, Jackie and Nick kept discussing the Bridget vs. Katie situation. Finally alone, Katie called Nick to meet her at the Marlin, "now." On the water, Katie thought about how wonderful Bridget is and choked on her guilt. "We need to talk," she told Nick when he arrived. As he grew increasingly worried by her silence, the screen went black.

Tuesday

Katie told Nick she wasn't sick. "It's not my heart," she said. Nick assured her that he wasn't pretending that what happened on Catalina Island didn't happen. Nick said he takes responsibility for their lovemaking. "I can't call that a mistake," he added. Katie became upset and told Nick she wished it hadn't happened. Nick explained that he and Bridget weren't fully recommitted to each other when he and Katie made love. Nick didn't think Bridget need ever know what happened. "I'm pregnant," Katie said through her tears. "What did you say?" Nick asked. "Where's the good in this? This will bring nothing but misery. It will kill Bridget," Katie cried. Katie went on to call herself a slut and beat herself up over her behavior on the island. "I don't know how you can stand to be around me," she said. "That's not true," Nick insisted. Nick tried to comfort her. "I loved you on that day in Catalina, and I believe you loved me," Nick said. Katie wondered if Bridget would welcome this situation into her life. "I am the worst kind of hypocrite. Everything I touch withers and dies," she said, sobbing. Katie hoped she could keep that day on the beach a secret, but now she can't. "The wrong person died that day," Bridget said, referring to her late brother, Storm. Katie began to leave. "Don't go," Nick begged as he answered a phone call from Bridget. "It hasn't been the greatest day," Bridget said, sharing that Eric was put on a ventilator. In true Bridget fashion, she asked Nick to check on Katie. "Something is not right with her," she said. On the deck of the Marlin, Katie kept crying, "What have I done?" She remembered officiating at Nick and Bridget's wedding and remembered the passion on the island. Katie looked up to the skies. "Why do you hate me so much? What do you want from me?" she asked. Storm appeared in the water and started to talk to his sister.

Bridget told Brooke that Eric was put on a ventilator and began to ask her mother about God. She continued to question her mother about the injustices in life; "When bad things happen to good people." Bridget explained to her mom that "Katie thinks she's one of those people." "Katie's a walking miracle," Brooke insisted. Bridget explained that Katie was angry at life. "Her whole belief system is shot," Bridget said. Then she told her mom that she and Nick were going to try to have a baby again. Brooke was delighted at that news. "This is the marriage I always wanted to have," Bridget shared. Brooke thanked Bridget and Nick for being there for Katie.

Wednesday

Beth began therapy with Taylor and talked about her possible depression. She thought her problems stemmed from her mini-strokes and her health.
"Depression never crossed my mind," she said. "You still sound very fearful," Taylor observed. Beth explained that being in Paris alone made things less painful. "When I was alone, it was easy to convince myself I could just quietly disappear," she said. Taylor told her that depression and dementia have many of the same qualities. "There is a lot of hope," Taylor encouraged. Beth admitted the medication and therapy was helping her "feel a bit like my old self." Taylor suggested keeping a positive attitude and staying in tune with her body. "One in 10 people have depression," Taylor let her patient know. "It can drive them to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do." Beth was still surprised to think that she was depressed. Taylor explained there are many different kinds of depression and that she as a therapist enjoys helping people get out of the darkness.

Katie talked to the ghost of Storm, who appeared to come out of the water. Storm — would he be a merman? — invited her in for a swim. Katie crept to the edge of the boat and looked as if she was ready to jump to her dead brother. "You only have me," he said convincingly. She leapt into the water and immediately struggled. Storm reached for her hand and asked her if she really wanted to bring a child into this ugly world. GhostStorm disappeared. Katie swam underwater, trying to go after him. She reached for him and saw a frightening face.

Bridget tried to explain to Nick how Katie had appeared when she saw her at the hospital. Nick, of course, knew why Katie was acting weird — she's pregnant. Bridget suggested Katie might like spending more time with Jack. Nick didn't know what to say. Bridget showed Brooke a book she had read after she lost her baby. Brooke began reading aloud as viewers saw Katie swimming aimlessly through the dark water. Moments later we saw that Katie hadn't gone into the water at all. "Life is a miracle. Our child is a miracle," she said as she fell into Nick's arms. Katie vowed to Nick that she will love this child and she "will love life." They agreed that they would get through this somehow.

Brooke asked Bridget to explain to Ridge what was going on Eric, specifically what would happen if Eric never awoke from his coma. Changing gears, she also hoped that Nick would get baby Jack christened right away. "That will be good for all of us," she thought.

Thursday

A montage of Catalina Island flashbacks opened the episode and then faded into Nick and Katie discussing their love child and cuddling. They talked about Bridget and their "pure and honest" tryst and the high risks involved in the pregnancy. When would they tell Bridget? "Let's wait till we're sure about a lot of things," said Nick, trying to believe that "The Man Upstairs has got a plan."

Bridget explained to Ridge about Eric being on a ventilator and how dire his condition is: "At this point, a full recovery is highly unlikely." Brooke comforted a shaken Ridge and reeled from the news herself. "How do we get along without our dad?" gasped Ridge. There had to be some way to fight this! Bridget said they were out of options....except for one. "To take him off life support? To let him die?" Ridge surmised. Ridge, Bridget and Brooke went back and forth about pulling Eric's plug and then the subject of Donna came up. Ridge admitted he believed Eric and Donna loved each other "very much." Bridget revealed Eric designated Donna to make his medical decisions. Ridge wanted everyone who loved Eric to make this decision together.

Friday

"This will be all right," Ridge said looking at the picture of Nick, Bridget and Katie. Katie said she was worried about Eric. "The odds are against him," she said as she clung to her husband.

Bridget brought up the subject of Katie being Jack's godmother. Nick didn't want to talk about it. Bridget added that Nick had been up all night and wondered what was troubling him. Nick thought about his situation with Katie and what will happen when it comes out that Katie is pregnant. Nick reminded
Bridget that he will always be there for her. They kissed. Nick looked concerned and worried. "We can so do this," he thought out loud. The two began to make love.

Katie tried to stay focused at work but could only think about the baby. She relived that moment on the beach over and over again. She just smiled and she held her stomach.

At Eric's bedside, Ridge said that they were losing him. The doctor agreed. Brooke stayed by Ridge's side. The doctor said that without the ventilator, Eric would die. "We need to know what we are facing," Ridge said. Brooke held Eric's hand and kissed him. Ridge begged for a sign and thought he heard Eric say, "let me go." Ridge told his father he has to stay. Eric said
he was tired, "let me go," he repeated. Ridge told Brooke what Eric told him. Brooke thought he had dreamt hearing Eric. "He wants me to help," Ridge said. The doctor walked into the room. Eric kept talking to Ridge. "This isn't what you want," Ridge told his father. Ridge kissed his dad on the forehead. "Let me go," he begged. "I love you so much" Ridge said. Ridge turned off the machine keeping Eric alive. "Goodbye dad," he said. Fade to
black.
