Monday
Will was surprised to learn that Chad was attending Salem High in the fall. Chad explained he transferred because his parents bought a new house. Will played it off with Chad and acted like it was no big deal, then Will and Mia took off. Kinsey showed up and she and Chad argued that Kinsey wasn't doing her best to get Will and Mia to split. They headed back to the gym to plot anew. There, Chad admitted he didn't buy Mia's drug addiction claim. Once in the park alone, Will asked Mia why she didn't tell him about Chad's big move. She said with everything going on with Lucas/Chloe/Grace's death, she didn't want to add to the drama.
Sami told Nicole all about Meredith's damning letter, which said Rafe killed Emily. It also said that Emily knew a secret about Rafe that would destroy his career with the FBI. Sami was aggravated; Nicole pointed out that maybe Rafe couldn't talk about it and that Sami should give him the benefit of the doubt. Sami was surprised Nic was defending Rafe, but said she understood since Nicole looked the other way with EJ's dirty deeds. Sami explained that she couldn't do that. She rued the mistakes she made in her life and began to get teary. "I deserve it," she reasoned. Nicole insisted that wasn't true and it wasn't Sami's fault.
Rafe approached EJ, who had just left a message for Nicole. EJ asked if Hernandez was spying on him. Rafe went to the Brady Pub to say good-bye to Arianna. He revealed he was leaving Salem. Ari slipped out when Rafe was talking to his boss.
The Carvers visited with Stefano, who was thrilled to see his grandson. Theo was upset when he couldn't find Charlie, his stuffed dog. Abe took him to the car to look for it. Stefano and Lexie discussed Theo's autism after. An emotional Phoenix admitted it broke his heart to see Theo upset. EJ returned home just as Lexie was leaving. After, EJ was dismayed to hear that Nicole had missed Sydney's half-birthday party and couldn't imagine what was more important than that. Stefano admitted that he heard EJ and Nicole arguing earlier and asked what was going on. EJ said that he felt Nic was keeping something from him. EJ then reported that he ran into Rafe. Nicole returned home and told Stefano about her talk with Sami. Nicole felt badly for causing more pain for Sami. Stefano got angry at her for getting upset, noting that she didn't seem to mind when she switched the babies. Nic began to cry, insisting that she didn't like hurting people. They began to yell at each other. EJ came in and demanded to know what they were arguing about. Stefano excused himself. Nic explained to EJ that Stefano accused her of being insensitive by not wanting to talk about Grace. EJ pointed out that it was insensitive of her.
Lexie and Abe came in to the Pub and asked Rafe if he had seen the stuffed dog. Rafe and Lexie discussed Grace and Sydney. Rafe noted that Grace's death hit Nicole hard. After, Rafe found the dog, to the delight of the Carvers. Then, he went to Grace's grave to talk to her.
Ari visited Sami and accused her of doing something to Rafe to make him leave town. Sami said she didn't do anything, but was stunned to hear Rafe was taking off. Sami told Ari about the letter from Meredith and showed it to her. Ari read it then hurried out. She returned to the Pub to talk to Rafe. Back at the townhouse, Sami talked to Allie about Rafe leaving and decided that she should just call Rafe and ask him for the truth.
Tuesday
At the station, Victor picked up Daniel, who was finally released on bail. Daniel asks Vic if he, too, suspected Kate was involved. Vic didn't reply. Daniel implored Victor to hire a guard for Chloe's door to keep Kate out, but Victor said he couldn't do it. Daniel insisted Kate was responsible for poisoning Chloe, but Victor said he didn't know. Daniel was frustrated, then realized that Victor had to protect Philip, since it was his mother who Daniel was blaming for the crime. Victor tried to get him to focus on himself, his defense and being cleared.
Kate sat with Chloe at the hospital. Maggie came in with good news about the patient, that her brain activity had increased and she had even said Daniel's name. Lexie came in during their chat and explained that spikes in brain activity were common, but that it didn't necessarily mean good news.
Bo and Hope discussed the Daniel/Chloe case at the cop shop. Bo told her he was blowing off a planning board meeting to work the Jonas case. The new DA overheard and told Bo that the case was closed and he had to move on. They squared off. The DA pointed out that Bo had a massive conflict of interest and shouldn't even be on the case. Bo said as commissioner, he was on all the cases. The DA advised him to stay off of it anyway, then threatened to have the Bradys suspended if they disobeyed him. He stalked off.
At the Brady Pub, Arianna urged Daniel to stay in town and figure out a way to work things out with Sami. He said he couldn't. They had a heart to heart. Ari noted that if she wasn't in town, perhaps the Emily situation wouldn't have come up. He said it would have come up no matter what. From their conversation, it was clear something else happened that Rafe said they could never, ever talk about.
Sami called Rafe and left a message, saying they needed to talk. Lucas came by. Sami thought it was Rafe, so was disappointed when it was her ex. She asked how Chloe was. He called her a "lying, two-faced bitch." Lucas said he wanted to visit with Allie. He then pressed Sami about Rafe, noting that it seemed like things were bad between them. Sami told him about Meredith and Emily and the letter. Lucas warned her about trusting in Rafe too much. Sami countered that Rafe wasn't Chloe. Rafe came home during their chat, just in time to hear Lucas ask if Sami wanted her kids around a murderer. Lucas took Allie and left. Sami urged Rafe to tell her the whole story about Emily.
Kate met with the new DA at the Brady Pub. He reported that Victor paid Daniel's bail and Daniel was free.... Bo and Hope went to the Kiriakis mansion to talk to Victor about his posting bail for Dr. J. Victor insisted Daniel was innocent and added that he expected Bo to ensure the case didn't go to trial. Hope and Bo said they didn't think Daniel did it, but asked Victor about the possibility of Kate being the culprit. Victor didn't give a lot, but noted that Philip would be upset if his mother went to prison, but if that was the case... Bo and Hope then revealed that the DA ordered them off the case. Victor was furious, but said he had someone else from the family all set to represent Daniel: Enter Justin Kiriakis, Vic's nephew.
Daniel hightailed it to the hospital to check on Chloe. He begged Nurse Maxine to let him in. She walked away, leaving a path to Chloe's room. Lexie — with a cop in tow —stopped Daniel from getting in, explaining that the DA posted a guard outside of Chloe's door. She explained that Dan's bail could be revoked if he went inside.
Maggie came upon Allie and Lucas in the park. Lucas said he didn't want to talk to her, because he now knew the truth about Daniel and Chloe and how she knew all along. "You lied to me! You lied to my face! How could you be so damn cruel?" he exploded. He then told his weepy aunt to stay away from him and that he didn't want her to be his AA sponsor anymore. "Get out of here!" he ordered. An upset Maggie hurried off. After, Kate came upon Lucas in the park and he filled her in on what happened with Maggie. Kate told Lucas about her talk with the DA and that Daniel was out on bail. Lucas was peeved. She also reported that if Chloe died, the charges against Daniel would be changed to premeditated murder.
Wednesday
In the park, Kate fantasized about kissing Daniel passionately.... At the Kiriakis mansion, Bo and Hope were thrilled to see Justin. He said he had an opportunity to read up on Daniel's case and felt it was strong. "I think Daniel's in need of a miracle," he noted. Hope pointed out that the evidence against Daniel kept conveniently piling up. Victor bellowed that they should find the real culprit. The Bradys headed out. Justin confronted his uncle about his outburst and asked if he knew who really did it. Cue Kate's entry. She hugged Justin, then pulled back when she realized he was going to defend Daniel.
Lexie met with Daniel, who gave her a drug that he wanted her to administer to Chloe to save her. Lexie was dubious, but Daniel begged. Abe caught them together and demanded to know what was going on. Lexie came clean. "Are you INSANE?" Abe asked the disgraced doc. Lexie mediated, explaining that the experimental procedure could save Chloe's life. Abe wasn't swayed and wanted to make a citizen's arrest against Daniel.
Bo and Hope went over the case at the Pub. They decided they couldn't ignore Kate as a possible suspect, regardless of what the DA said. Ciara came in with a surprise cake for them just because she loves them. After, the threesome went to the pier and talked about sailing around the world. Ciara asked if they would see Zack. Bo said they would see Zack in heaven someday. Hope said it made her happy that Ciara thinks about Zack. Hope then got called into the station. Bo said he would take Ciara to Tracy and Ellen's. Hope told her daughter she loved her and warned her not to talk to strangers. She left for work. Bo told Ciara that they were off to the carnival. Unbeknownst to Bo, someone was following him and Ciara. At the carnival, Bo gave Ciara a unicorn. He then told her what she could and couldn't do at the carnival and told her to stick close to Tracy and Ellen. Bo gave her a kiss, then took off. Ciara showed Tracy that she had brought Tommy Bear along, the one that was in Bo's vision. Tracy ran off, so Ellen had to follow. A man approached Ciara, who was left behind. He gave her a lollipop.
Vic got a call that there was an incident with Daniel and sent Justin to the station. Kate tried to talk to Victor about it after, but he reminded her that he said he would do everything he could to free Daniel. What about me? Kate asked. "You have no one to blame but yourself," Vic told her.
At the station, the DA questioned Lexie about her conversation with Daniel with Daniel and Justin there. Lexie admitted that the treatment Daniel wanted her to use could work on Chloe. Daniel again implored Lexie to give Chloe the drug. The DA wanted to put Daniel back in jail, but Justin objected. Abe, who was also present, admitted that he overreacted to Daniel's request of Lexie. The DA was not pleased. Once alone, Daniel told Justin that he was sure Kate set him up to take the fall and was the one responsible for Chloe's coma. Justin noted that Kate was smart and that would make it difficult to prove she did it.... After, Justin talked to Adrienne on the phone. Hope walked in and sensed there was trouble between them.
Nicole showed EJ photos of Sydney's party on her camera, but he seemed distracted. He was thinking how it would have been Grace's half-birthday, too. After, Nicole told EJ that she thought Sami and Rafe were splitting up. She went to put Sydney to bed, then got a phone call — from Dr. Baker, who demanded money. She told him to go to Gamblers' Anonymous. She hurried off the phone, but he advised her to call him back pronto or else he's spill all to her hubby. EJ and Nicole got frisky on the couch. He told her that Johnny was coming to dinner. She grimaced that the cook was making something Johnny didn't like. Nic offered to pick up kid-friendly food at the Brady Pub.
Rafe told Sami he couldn't say what she wanted to hear and there were holes in his story that he couldn't fill in. He said he couldn't tell her the truth, ever. "And because you've lost faith in me ... we have nothing," he added. He said they were over. She kissed him. He pulled away, then began to pack his stuff. They talked about Grace, then Rafe left, leaving a weepy Sami alone. Will came home and Sami told him about Rafe moving out. EJ arrived to pick up Johnny, but Sami revealed the boy had a cough. EJ wasn't thrilled that he made the trip for nothing. Sami checked on Johnny. EJ spied the moving boxes. Will revealed that Rafe was moving out, then added it was none of EJ's business. "Trust me, I don't care," said EJ, who then left. Outside, though, he seemed affected by the news.
Nicole picked up the food at the Pub and got another call from Dr. Baker. Rafe came upon the tail end of her conversation, where an agitated Nic mentioned the doc's name.
Thursday
EJ returned to the DiMera mansion and was on edge following his visit to Sami's. Stefano sensed it and asked what was going on. EJ didn't want to discuss it, then revealed that Sami and Rafe split. Stefano pointed out that EJ seemed calm about the whole thing and asked why his son wasn't rejoicing in their misery. EJ said he was "processing" the information, then headed out. Stefano worried his son was going to see Sami.
Outside the Brady Pub, Rafe overheard Nicole talking sharply to Dr. Baker on the phone. She threatened to hang up; Baker reminded her that he had a letter that implicated her for her crimes. "What letter?" Nicole asked. The good doc reminder her of the letter he sent his attorney, then demanded $100,000. Nicole balked and hung up. Rafe followed her inside, where she picked up the takeout she ordered. Rafe approached her and was friendly, thanking her for giving them the heads up about Grace's headstone. She implored him to keep mum and not tell EJ. He promised he wouldn't. He made a pointed remark about keeping secrets from people you live with. She countered that he would know, then revealed that Sami told her how he was keeping his past a secret. Nicole got her food, then rushed out. Rafe told Ari he had delayed his plans to leave Salem, explaining that something was fishy with Nicole and Doc Baker and Rafe needed to protect Sami. Ari said Rafe could crash with her. After, Rafe got on his laptop and called a friend at the bureau to help him access some Web sites where he could get info on Baker.
Hope walked in on a phone conversation Justin was having with Adrienne and sensed trouble. Bo called Hope to say he forgot something of Ciara's and was going to bring it to her at the carnival and then come to the station. In the park, a creepy guy with an angel tattoo approached Ciara, gave her a lollipop and tried to talk to her. He offered to get the child lots of teddy bears, which made her smile. She ran off to join Ellen and Tracy. Bo found them and gave her the water bottle.
Bo returned to the station, where Theo was with Abe. The Carvers were headed to the carnival. Bo asked them to keep an eye on Ciara. Back at the carnival, Ellen handed out tickets for the merry-go-round. Ciara left her backpack on the bench, so the creepy guy went through it and picked up Tommy Bear.... Justin and Hope talked about raising kids. Hope talked about how much she loved Ciara and how protective she was of her. Bo returned to the station and assured his wife that Ciara was fine.... Ciara retrieved her backpack, but noticed that Tommy Bear was gone. Creepy guy approached and offered to help look for him. Ciara said she couldn't go with him. He said he would find the bear and bring it to her. He took off. Abe arrived with Theo.
EJ visited Grace's grave and spoke to his daughter. Lexie came upon him, explaining that she has spied his car while en route to the carnival. She admitted she overheard what he was saying to Grace and asked if her brother still had feelings for Sami. EJ responded that he didn't want to have feelings for her and they were only connected through Johnny. "I am going to discipline myself to stop thinking about her," he declared. Lexie said it sounded like he was trying to convince himself that he didn't care for Sami. He admitted he was conflicted.
Lexie headed to the carnival to play with the kids. Tracy got hurt, so, during the distraction, Ciara spied creepy guy holding Tommy Bear and approached him. Theo watched Ciara talk to the man while everyone else was focused on Tracy. Creepy guy lied to Ciara that Bo called him and that Hope was hurt and in the hospital. He said that he was going to take Ciara to Hope and asked her to go with him. Ciara dropped her water bottle, took his hand and ran off with him.... Bo and Hope went to the Pub to grab a bite with Justin and catch up. Hope checked in on the carnival crowd because she was worried about Ciara. Ellen didn't pick up her cell. Bo suddenly had a vision of finding Tommy Bear in the woods.
Nicole returned home and told Stefano about Dr. Baker's call. He refused to pay the money. Nicole argued the matter; Stefano capitulated, but advised Nicole to give Baker a warning about messing with the DiMeras. He handed her the number of an account from which Nic would wire Baker the money. Nic thanked him, then asked where EJ was. Stefano said he didn't know. Nicole suspected he was comforting Sami over her breakup. EJ came home. Nicole asked if he was with Sami. He said no. "Did you want to be?" she asked. He confessed that he considered it, but then thought about Nicole and how much he loved her and came home. He declared that he was 100% committed to Nicole. She told him she loved him. They kissed.... In the living room, Stefano made a call, saying he needed someone taken care of.
Friday
Stephanie showed up at Sami's to hang out, and spotted packing boxes. Rafe was moving out because they're breaking up, explained Sami. Now they were in the same boat, the women ruefully agreed. Maggie showed up and offered her sympathy on the breakups. "One day you'll find your true soul mate and the pain will disappear," she promised. "What if you've already found your soul mate?" asked Sami. Later, she admitted to Maggie that breaking up with Rafe felt like the biggest mistake of her life.
Arianna dropped by Brady's with a gift for him. It was a thank you for the other night, purred Arianna. Brady asked her to go for a swim. Arianna had to work, but she returned later. After a dip in the pool, they made out.
Rafe plugged into a hospital computer to research Dr. Baker and was caught by Melanie. He was looking for a patient's room number, lied Rafe. Melanie didn't buy it. Okay, said Rafe, there's an attractive nurse he's trying to track down. Sorry, the computer info is confidential, said Melanie. When the coast was clear, Rafe returned to the computer, and ran into Sami; she was getting an ailing Johnny checked out. Had he changed his mind about leaving
Salem? Sami wanted to know. He'd better not go into details, hedged Rafe. Running into each other was going to be awkward, they both acknowledged. "So... I'll miss you," Sami said sadly. "I'll miss you too," Rafe murmured, then headed back to the pub to use Arianna's laptop. He needed to figure out Dr. Baker's connection to Cole and Sami, Rafe explained to Arianna (who'd just returned from getting coke). Soon, he tracked down the clinic where Nicole must have met the doctor. "What was she doing at that clinic?" wondered Rafe.
Melanie met Nathan at the Cheating Heart. As she went to the ladies room adjust her blouse, Stephanie arrived. Steph and Nathan agreed it would be fun to hang out again. A jealous Melanie returned and accused Stephanie of horning in on her date. "He is all yours, princess," said Melanie, and stormed out. Stephanie asked Nathan if he and Melanie had been on a date. Not that she would be upset if that was the case, assured Stephanie. "Are you still into Philip?" asked Nathan. Stephanie said they were through, then agreed to save Nathan's night by having dinner with him. "To uncomplicated relationships," toasted Nathan.
Justin, Hope and Bo were at the pub when Bo was hit with another vision of searching for Ciara. He jumped up to call Ellen, and asked to talk to Ciara. Ellen looked around the carnival, but couldn't find her charge. Bo and Hope raced out. Abe and Theo ran into Ellen and Abe offered to help look. "Seen Ciara, seen Ciara," chirped Theo, but the adults ignored him. Abe had already ordered a search by the time a frantic Bo and Hope arrived. Hope found Ciara's water bottle, then Bo got a call reporting that someone spotted a car speeding away right before Ellen lost track of Ciara. Bo spotted Ciara's bear, just as he had in his visions....
Victor interrupted Philip as he was arranging for a scholarship for Carlo's children. "Stay the hell out of it," growled Victor. A man lost his life doing business for them, said Philip. Didn't that bother Victor? "Spare me the bleeding heart," said Victor. "It's the way we do business, Philip. If you don't like it, teach kindergarten." Later, Melanie, still upset about Nathan, ran into Philip, who was distraught about Victor's response to the scholarship. Melanie lent a sympathetic ear. "Will you let me make you feel better?" she asked.
A gun-toting thug demanded that Dr. Baker pay the money he owed. Baker handed over all the money he had, but it wasn't enough. A gun trained on him, Baker promised the money would be there in two days.
