Monday

Marlena caused his coma. Stefano vowed revenge, which Sami heard as she entered his room. She demanded to know what the Phoenix had done to her mother. The two argued; Tony defended Stefano. EJ took Sami outside, where she told him that her mother was missing. EJ reasoned that his father didn't do anything. She responded that his minions probably did. Elvis offered to help her find Marlena.

Once alone with Stefano, Tony demanded to know what happened to Marlena. Stefano replied that he was adopting the "eye for an eye" philosophy. The men argued. "That woman tortured me," Stefano told him, tears brimming in his eyes. "I was trapped in my own body." Tony asked if he had proof. The Phoenix said no, but recounted what happened when Marlena injected him, and vowed to make the citizens of Salem pay. Tony urged him to take the high road, to no avail.

John and Anna arrived at Marlena's apartment and found Marlena on the floor, unconscious and a syringe nearby. John urged her to breathe. Sami and EJ came in right after; Sami begged her mother to fight. John performer CPR; Marlena took a breath. "Sensational," John responded. Marlena was rushed to the hospital. John told Sami he would talk to Stefano. Sami asked him to be with Marlena now. Anna told Tony about what happened with Marlena, so he went back and confronted his father. "I'm not going to let you turn Salem into your carnival of horrors. Not this time around," declared the Count. John and Kayla had it out after Kayla noted that he was so cold. "You love that woman in there," she said. "She is, and always will be, the great love of your life." John went inside Marlena's room and watched her. Later, Sami thanked him for saving Marlena's life. "Maybe what we need is to start having faith in who you are now and stop holding out and waiting for someone who may never come back," she noted. "I will hold you to that," he replied.

Tuesday

Kayla worked to treat Marlena as Sami and John looked on. EJ came by to see how Doc Evans was doing. John headed out. Sami rued the fact that Stefano was awake. EJ noted that Marlena did put his father into the paralytic state. Sami doubted it, but EJ said he believed she did it. Sami noted that if Marlena did do it, it was to protect their family.

Steve came to Marlena's room and asked Kayla what happened. Kayla responded that Marlena had been injected with a paralyzing toxin and Marlena added that Stefano is responsible. Sami came in with EJ to check on her mother. Steve had to leave to take Joe to his doctor's appointment, but told Marlena to hang in there. Marlena told Kayla that she injected Stefano with the same toxin she gave Stefano and told Kayla what was in it. She then announced that she would soon not be able to move or speak.

In Stefano's room, Anna asked Stefano what he did to Marlena. "I did what I had to," he answered simply. Anna told Stefano she wished he never came out of his coma. He called her a meddlesome bitch. "Excuse me. You're talking about my wife," Tony corrected him. Stefano wondered how Tony could keep making the same mistake over and over. Anna asked how Stefano magically woke up from the coma. The Phoenix told her she would never understand. John came in and asked Stefano what he did to Marlena. "Marlena is ill?" Stefano asked innocently. Anna took Tony outside, leaving the brothers alone. John informed Stefano that as a DiMera, he had taken over the family empire. "Well, John, I certainly hope that you have enjoyed it, because that's all about to change," replied Stefano, who added that he was going to reclaim his life and that his plan to do it was already in motion. They discussed Colleen. Stefano asked where "that tramp" was. Dead, John responded, "and safe from you." John asked Stefano why he was targeting Marlena. "Because she put me through a living hell beyond imagination," he said, noting that he was planning to get revenge on everyone who had betrayed him. John went to hurt him; EJ came in and pulled him off. "Blondie could be dying," John explained. EJ countered that John wasn't interested in Marlena when Ava was around. Stefano asked what happened between John and Martino Vitali's daughter. "That's a long story," John replied, then said that because Stefano had targeted Blondie, he was now John's enemy. "Anyone you are after has become my friend," John announced.

John returned to Marlena's room and told her he was going to help her fight Stefano. After, Tony came in to talk to Marlena alone. "What you did was wrong and evil," he told her. She said she had to protect her family.... John went back to Stefano's room. He was going to muscle Stefano into talking by pushing his fingers back, but the Phoenix reminded John that he was partially paralyzed.... In the hallway, Sami and EJ heard a strange sound. She went to the roof to get some air. Inside Stefano's room, he smiled, saying, "The fate of my enemies is sealed." John tried to choke him. Steve rushed in to stop him and they left.... Sami returned and told EJ that the door to the roof was locked. He picked up the phone, but it was dead. They wondered what was going on.... Anna went to Stefano's room, but he was gone. John and Tony walked in after, followed by EJ and Sami. EJ and Sami told the others about the locked doors. A report came on the news that the seventh floor of University Hospital was in lockdown because of a quarantine situation.

Steve brought baby Joe to the lab to find Kayla, but she wasn't there. He was locked in and banged on the door. Suddenly, a strange smoke came out of the vents. Steve covered the baby's face with a blanket, then tried to close the vent.... Kayla talked to Marlena in her room. She was about to administer an antidote, but the gas started hissing and Kayla had a coughing fit.... The group in Stefano's room became alarmed when gas started seeping in through the vent.

Wednesday

As a mysterious purple smoke wafted through the vents in Marlena's hospital room, Kayla placed an oxygen mask on the patient's face and went to investigate.

With the hospital on lockdown, a nurse in Lucas's room ordered Chloe to stay put. Lucas, alarmed by the fumes drifting into his room, scrambled from his bed and changed into street clothes. He assured Chloe that the substance probably wasn't lethal since they'd been breathing it in for a while. They covered their mouths with towels and fled the room. Chloe, who had a headache, suggested that they split up while trying to find a way out. Lucas reluctantly agreed.

Steve was locked in a lab with Baby Joe. He found oxygen for himself and the crying infant. Kayla walked in, but let the door close behind her, thus unwittingly locking herself in. She soon passed out. Steve revived his wife and placed a surgical mask on her face. Before long, she was dizzy again. As Kayla checked on the baby, Steve passed out. A weak Kayla crawled to the door, gasping for help.

In a missing Stefano's hospital room, John, Sami, Tony, Anna and EJ watched a news brief on the crisis at University Hospital. A coughing Anna was afraid they were being poisoned, but Tony tried to assuage her fears. He instructed his wife not to be intimidated by Stefano, but she said it was too late. On the brink of collapse, Anna asked Tony to go find John and come back to her. He didn't want to leave her alone, but consented.

In a corridor, Sami freaked out over being away from the twins for so long. EJ said that they were safe with Maggie. When EJ tried to comfort Sami with a kiss, she started screaming that he's the one behind the drama. As the Brit tried to calm her down, Sami hallucinated that he was really a laughing Stefano and ran off shrieking.

As Marlena slept, a man wearing a ring entered her room. A short time later, John came in and vowed to the barely-conscious Doc that he'd find Stefano. A helpless Marlena could only blink her eyes. In the hallway, Sami ran into the real Stefano, who gloated about all the turmoil. "Marlena had it coming," he roared. He then praised Sami's fighting spirit and encouraged her to "procreate" with EJ to strengthen the DiMera clan. Sami shouted at him to go to hell, then fled into a stairwell.

John ran into EJ, who was hacking and coughing, his eyes watering. Elvis recounted how Sami flipped out on him and ran off. John chalked it up to the vapors, giving new meaning to a case of the vapors. EJ noticed that John isn't affected by the gas.

Chloe walked into Marlena's room and promised to get help. On her way out, Chloe looked in a mirror and imagined her face covered in blood. She ran into the hall and bumped into Stefano. "This can't be, you're not real," she yelped. Stefano chuckled and promised her that it's really him. He blew a kiss after her when she rushed off, then strode into Marlena's room to stare down the terrified patient. "Well, well, the tides are certainly turning," he said. Then he temporarily removed her oxygen mask to make sure she breathed in plenty of the purple haze. "Did you really think I would turn the other cheek?" he asked.

A sobbing Chloe found Lucas and sobbed about her bloody, deformed face. He explained that her face is just fine. Tony and John arrived in time to hear Chloe say that she'd seen The Phoenix in Marlena's room. After surmising that this is all part of Stefano's revenge strategy, Chloe pointed out that Lucas shot Stefano's son. Lucas started to feel faint and had to lie down.

Tony wondered why John is not affected by the vapors. John said that he thinks being Stefano's lab rat, he might have developed an immunity.

EJ searched for Samantha, who thinking that he was Stefano, sent Elvis tumbling down the stairs. "That's right, die you son of a bitch," cried Sami.

Thursday

Roman organized the cops to deal with the crisis at the hospital. Nicole came after hearing about it on the news and asked Philip what was going on. She then asked Roman if he knew who was stuck on the 7th floor. He said he would tell her and Philip when he knew. Nicole worried EJ was up there; Phil believed Chloe was visiting Lucas. Over a cup of hospital coffee, Nicole admitted to Philip that she was falling for EJ. He told her to go for it. She asked him about Chloe; Philip replied that he didn't deserve her —or anyone.

Anna, John and Tony went to the the circuit room to try and turn off the ventilation system. Bickering ensued. Anna stormed out; John asked Tony if she brought that kind of energy to the bedroom. Tony walked out. "I'll take that as a yes," John said to himself. Tony returned to help his uncle. They discussed Stefano and Marlena. During their talk, the gas got to Tony and he hallucinated that he was seeing Stefano. He grabbed a wrench to hit his father.

In Marlena's hospital room, Stefano told his Queen of the Night that it was payback time. He recounted how torturous his time in the coma was. "What you did to me is unforgivable," he said calmly. She whispered John's name, to which Stefano pointed out that she never really had John because John belonged to him. "Once I eliminate you from the picture, then finally I will be able to reclaim my treasured pawn." He apologized that it had come to this between then. (Cue the awesome '80s flashbacks!) He found the syringe with the antidote in it and was going to inject her with it, unaware of what it was. He surmised it was a painkiller. Just as he was about to inject her, the lights went out.

Anna went to Stefano's room, which was dark and empty. "Looking for something, Anna?" Stefano's voice asked, though he wasn't in the room. She tried to calm herself, believing she was hallucinating. She then turned around to find him smiling, standing behind her. She screamed.

Stefano returned to Marlena's room and again taunted her with the syringe. He referenced the disk of John's memories, then produced it from his pocket. He told her John's memories would never be recovered and left. After, he returned to his room, where he had left a now-passed out Anna, then went back to Marlena's room. Or did he? When she opened her eyes, he was gone.

Friday

At the hospital, Nicole tried to talk her way past a cop onto the seventh floor, to no avail. Philip brought her coffee and told her not to worry about EJ.

Roman discussed the situation with Abe and told his pal that Sami was up on the lockdown floor. "You must be worried sick," Abe said. They talked about all the people on the seventh floor, including Stefano. Abe noted that he was in a coma. "Don't be so sure of that," Lexie weighed in. She revealed that it was possible Stefano was out of his catatonic state. Lexie noticed that Nicole had a reaction to hearing Sami was with EJ and privately asked her after if she was in love with EJ. No, Nicole replied. Lexie pointed out that EJ was only interested in Sami. Nicole doubted it.

In the lab, Kayla panicked about Steve, who was passed out from the gas and baby Joe. She then passed out. Stefano came in and took a crying Joe. After he left, the Johnsons woke up and were alarmed to find the baby was missing.

Tony found a passed-out Anna in Stefano's hospital bed and tried to rouse her. She came to and told him he saw Stefano. Tony said that John turned into Stefano when they were working on the wiring in the ventilation room. "What is Stefano doing to us?" she asked.

Roman and Abe got word that one of the seventh floor security cameras was up and running.

A weepy, worried Sami tended to EJ, who was unconscious at the bottom of the stairs after tumbling down them. Sami, who had hallucinated that he was Stefano, apologized to him. "I didn't know it was you! I'm so sorry! You have to be okay," she cried, adding that she couldn't imagine her life without him. He opened his eyes and told her his head hurt. She told him what happened and again apologized for harming him. He asked her if it was true that she couldn't live without him. She said it wasn't the time to talk. He wondered where he and Lucas stood with her. She admitted she had to stop lying and admitted that she had feelings for EJ. EJ took Sami in his arms when she started panicking about everyone who was trapped on the seventh floor. They had a heart-to-heart about their future. She admitted that anything was possible, but she couldn't promise him more than that. "That's fine. That's a lot more than what I hoped for," he enthused. They kissed tenderly, which was caught on the security camera. Nicole spied the lip lock.

In her room, Marlena tried to will herself out of her paralytic state. "You've beaten Stefano before; you can beat him again," she said to herself. Anna came in and saw that Marlena's oxygen mask was off. She put it back on and assured her that John was okay and that they would get their revenge on the Phoenix. Anna left. Then, a woman's hand took Marlena's mask off. "You," Marlena whispered.

While fixing the ventilation system, John heard Stefano's voice. "This is your conscience speaking. You have been a very bad soldier.... But that is all about to change," he said. John tried to call Stefano out in the open. Stefano responded that he wasn't being a good pawn. John insisted he was never his pawn. "Oh, but you were.... And you will be again very soon." John grabbed a wrench to smash the box the voice was coming from when Tony walked in. He asked John what was going on; John explained about Stefano. He then continued to work on the wiring. Anna came in, coughing from the fumes. She passed out again; Tony rushed to her. John urged them to hang on.
