DAYS Week of August 18, 2008

Monday

Nicole barged into the DiMera mansion and called out for Rolf, hoping he could get Stefano to release Sami and EJ from the hospital. She poured herself a drink, wondering aloud if Sami and EJ had already made love. She didn't understand why EJ wanted Sami. Nicole veered off into black-and-white fantasy land. Lucas sat at a desk in his private eye office, going on about his lack of cases and wondering how his wife was beating the heat. Cut to a bedroom, where Sami and EJ were huffing and puffing post lovemaking. Sami noted how all girls should get themselves “a limey;” then, mentioned her hubby, Lucas. EJ said there would be no talk of their spouses, when Nicole suddenly knocked on the door. Sami hid. Nicole entered and asked what her hubby was up to. EJ said he'd been trying to nap. Nicole wondered if that was all and admitted she didn't like to share. EJ insisted Nicole was the only girl for him. Nicole swore EJ would be sorry if she ever found out he was two-timing her. EJ vowed to always be faithful. He suggested a cool highball, but realized there was no ice. Nicole left to fetch some. EJ rushed Sami out the door, without realizing her earring had fallen on the floor. Later, while EJ showered, Nicole carpet swept and discovered the earring.

At Club Marlowe, a dowdy Chloe sat alone at a table, while, back in his office, Lucas explained he had to let his secretary go. Philip approached Chloe and offered to buy her coffee. Chloe resisted. Philip said being broke wasn't a crime and suggested a job at the club. He was the owner. Chloe admitted she could sing, and sing she did. Afterwards, Philip offered her a job, but decided she needed a makeover. He took off Chloe's glasses and suggested some snazzy makeup and new clothes. Later, a breathtaking Chloe wowed the crowd. EJ asked who the singer was. Philip announced she was taken, but didn't know it yet.

Sami arrived at Lucas' office, and he attempted to kiss her. Sami said it was too hot. Lucas bemoaned his failing business and announced they were broke. They needed to hock something, and Sami surmised Lucas wanted her earrings. Then, she discovered one was missing. Soon, Nicole arrived to see Lucas, saying she needed him to find the cheap tart who was sleeping with her husband. She handed Lucas the earring. A stunned Lucas pronounced the case closed — the cheap tart was his wife! Later, Lucas sat alone and looked at his gun. A glammed-up Chloe entered, noting she'd gotten a new job. Then she handed Lucas a heap of cash, since she knew he needed money. Lucas wondered if Chloe was doing something she might regret. Chloe assured she wasn't, swearing her heart belonged to one man. They smooched. Nicole interrupted, noting she and Lucas had to leave for a stakeout. Chloe left to head back to work, telling Lucas to whistle if he needed to get hold of her.

EJ arrived at the club with Sami. When she headed to powder her nose, Philip cautioned EJ about two-timing his wife. It could be the death of him. EJ ignored the advice. When Sami returned, he kissed his mistress in front of everyone. Nicole and Lucas entered and watched.

Later, Sami returned to Lucas' office. Lucas said he'd seen her at Club Marlowe. He asked how many guys she'd been cheating with. Sami swore EJ was the only one and that she was going away with him. She handed Lucas her wedding ring and left. Meanwhile, Philip urged Chloe to forget Lucas, swearing he would do anything to make her happy. Philip kissed Chloe as Lucas walked in. Back at his place, EJ packed and told Nicole he was going off on business. Nicole thought it was monkey business. EJ swore there was no other woman. Nicole blocked EJ as he tried to go. He kissed her and left. Soon, Sami strolled in looking for EJ. Nicole chastised Sami for barging into her home. When Sami turned to leave, Nicole slipped a scarf around her neck and tightened it. Sami struggled free and fell onto the bed. Nicole smothered her with a pillow. Back in reality, Nicole saw the irony in always ending up the bad girl.

Tuesday

Nicole's black-and-white fantasy continued, as she suffocated Sami. When she suddenly stopped, Sami bounced up and started choking Nicole. Nicole countered by choking Sami — to death! "No one messes with my man and gets away with it," announced Nicole as she heard a sound in the other room. Nicole dragged Sami's body off before EJ entered, calling out for his mistress. EJ finally admitted to his indiscretion, confessing he couldn't stay faithful. He would probably cheat on Sami in time, too. Nicole begged EJ to stay, but he left.

Lucas sat in his office and fretted over seeing Chloe kissing Philip earlier. He headed to the club and approached them. Lucas told Chloe whatever she did on her own time was her business. Chloe said things weren't what they looked like with Philip. When Lucas left, Chloe told Philip she was in love with her married boss. Philip noted he could give Chloe all the things Lucas couldn't. Chloe headed off to prepare for her next show. Later, Chloe rehearsed. Afterwards, Philip offered to help her forget about Lucas, and they kissed. Philip backed off, realizing Chloe's heart belonged to another. Chloe realized he was right, kissed Philip goodbye, and headed to Lucas' office.

Back in his P.I. office, Lucas thought about his awful day — specifically, being jilted by two dames. The phone rang and it was Nicole, noting she'd taken care of Sami. Lucas headed to Nicole's and she admitted to offing Sami. She showed Lucas Sami's body and asked for his help. Lucas said Nicole was on her own. A down and out Nicole said she had nothing to live for. Lucas handed her his backup gun and left. Back at the club, EJ came in and Philip offered him a drink. EJ noted he and Sami were supposed to run off together, but she didn't show up. He feared something happened to her.

Chloe arrived at Lucas's empty P.I. office looking for him. Soon, Lucas returned and poured the two of them drinks. Chloe confessed she'd left her job at the club, and said Lucas was the only man for her. They kissed. Chloe asked about Lucas' wife. Lucas noted there was something he had to do and made a call. Then, he explained that he'd turned Nicole in to the cops. Chloe said she loved Lucas, and they left to start over together.

EJ got off the phone and told Philip he couldn't find Sami anywhere. Nicole entered and told EJ his girlfriend wouldn't be meeting him, because she killed her. EJ didn't believe it. Nicole said she wanted EJ back. EJ swore that would never happen if Sami was dead. In that case, Nicole announced, there was nothing left to do but kill him and herself. EJ had an abrupt change of heart, swearing he always loved Nicole. He couldn't believe she actually killed for him. EJ said the two of them had to leave Salem, pronto. They raced home to pack. Nicole asked EJ to prove his love for her first. Back in reality, Nicole wondered if EJ would love her if Sami was really out of the picture. In fantasy land, Nicole began undressing EJ, but there was a knock at the door. Roman and Abe burst in and arrested Nicole for Sami's murder. Nicole feigned innocence, insisting she had no idea what they were talking about. Roman and Abe admitted to finding Sami's body in the trash bin in the alley behind this building. EJ said they have no proof. Roman and Abe mentioned dusting Sami's clothes and this apartment, which would produce all the evidence they needed. Roman slapped handcuffs on Nicole and started carting her away. She asked EJ if he would wait for her. EJ admitted he wasn't that kind of guy. Roman noted it wouldn't be a long wait, as Nicole was going to the electric chair. After Roman, Abe and Nicole left, EJ opened up Nicole's wallet and took out a stash of cash. Nicole returned to reality, albeit perturbed, realizing she couldn't even get EJ in her own fantasy.

Wednesday

John worked on the hospital ventilation system as Tony looked on. Anna arrived coughing, and Tony went to tend to her. John got things working and the purple smoke stopped, just as Stefano's voice came over the intercom, noting it was too late. John headed to Stefano's room. He found a young Stefano sitting there. John noted his mother was Colleen. Young Stef went on about Colleen ruining his life. John insisted Santo was to blame. Soon, John's deceased father appeared. John accused Santo of leaving Colleen pregnant and alone. Santo claimed not to have known she was with child and said he was there to give John a message: The life he was leading was wrong, and Marlena was a good woman who could help him. John swore he didn't want to be the man he was and didn't need Marlena. Suddenly, Old John appeared. "You're wrong. And that's a fact," he noted. Old John said he didn't like the way New John was living their life — particularly, moving into Stefano's mansion and taking over his empire. Old John told New John life was about love, family and friendship, and Marlena could help turn him into the man he used to be. "Don't throw away the best thing that ever happened to us," he implored. Santo returned, urging John not to give up on love. They embraced.

In her hospital room, Marlena saw her deceased sister, Sam, standing before her. Sam said Marlena did a bad thing and was going to have to pay for it. She scolded Marlena for crossing the line and hurting a person. Marlena realized Sam was talking about her injecting Stefano with toxin. Sam asked why her sister had done it. Marlena admitted it was because of what Stefano did to John, noting that "The bastard deserved it!" Sam was surprised. Revenge never was Marlena's style. Marlena noted it was actually Sam's style, and flashed back to the time Sam drugged her. Sam confessed she was there because Marlena had lost her way. She spent all her time trying to save John and lost sight of who she was. Marlena bemoaned losing Old John and insisted she had to get well to help him. Sam said she couldn't help someone who didn't want help. Marlena rhapsodized about Old John, flashing back to their happy past. Sam understood Marlena's deep love, but noted that John was gone and she had to accept it. Marlena swore she couldn't give up on him, just like she didn't give up on Sam years ago. (More flashbacks.) Sam pointed out John was in a different place and thought he didn't need help. Then, she said she had to go. Marlena stopped her, asking Sam to give her the antidote in the syringe. Sam said she couldn't, noting Marlena had to save herself. "I can't. I'm paralyzed," cried out Marlena. Sam said Marlena could do it and vanished. Sure enough, Marlena mustered up her strength. She reached for the tray, grabbed the syringe and injected herself with the antidote.

Stefano held a sleeping baby Joe, noting he had "big plans" for the little tyke. Rolf arrived and Stefano asked if he'd completed his assignment. Rolf said he had. Stefano handed Joe to Rolf, who promised to follow his instructions to the letter and left. Later, Stefano barked orders into a phone as Rolf reappeared. Rolf reported that things went exactly as planned.

Tony and Anna finally awakened. Tony helped Anna up, and she told him she'd had a strange dream about Stefano. Tony admitted he did, too. Tony surmised John had successfully activated the ventilation system. They wondered where John was. Tony figured he'd left to get help. He promised Anna he would make sure Stefano got what he deserved. Anna scolded him not to talk that way or he was no better than is father. Tony insisted Stefano was not his father.

Thursday

Roman told Abe the hospital ventilation system was emitting a gas on the seventh floor, while Nicole watched Sami and EJ making out in the stairwell on the video monitor. Suddenly, EJ pulled away from Sami, saying he couldn't do this. Abe told Lexie he believed Stefano was behind the lockdown. Lexie was surprised, since the last time she examined Stefano, he was in a coma. Abe was adamant Stefano was behind this. Kate questioned Roman about what was going on, since Lucas was there. Roman noted Stefano was there, too, which worried Kate. An officer informed Roman the video feed was working, as everyone watched EJ and Sami. Kate commented how Lucas was "better off" without Sami. EJ and Sami discussed what had gone on between them. Sami admitted meaning what she said: she couldn't imagine her life without EJ. The pair embraced. Roman and Abe burst into the staircase where Sami and EJ were. Sami raced into her father's arms, while EJ explained about the gas that knocked them out. Sami noted Stefano might have been up and lurking. Abe sent EJ and Sami to be examined by Lexie. Nicole watched as EJ and Sami emerged from the stairwell. Sami and EJ chatted with Lexie and Kate, noting they believed Stefano was behind this. EJ noted that Marlena injected Stefano with the same toxin she was injected with. Lexie was stunned. Sami spat that Marlena should have killed him. Kate asked about Lucas, and she and Sami got into it.

Lexie sensed Nicole's feelings for EJ and encouraged her to try to take him away from Sami. Nicole said she'd been down that road before. EJ interrupted their talk. While Lexie went to examine Sami, EJ hugged Nicole, saying how good it was to see her. Nicole mentioned seeing EJ with Sami in the stairwell via the video feed. The sight was forever buried deep in her brain.

Steve and Kayla banged on the door, as Kayla cried her baby was gone. She feared Stefano was behind her son's disappearance. Steve vowed to kill Stefano with his bare hands if he touched their boy. He reassured Kayla they'd get through this. Suddenly, Kayla heard a baby crying.

Lucas woke up and checked on Chloe, who admitted she felt dizzy and wondered if this nightmare was over. Lucas doubted it, if Stefano was behind things. The pair left Lucas' room. Chloe confessed the thought of running into Stefano scared her. On cue, Stefano appeared, as a gallant Lucas stepped in front of Chloe. Stefano took great pleasure in handing Lucas his cell phone, which had the feed of Sami and EJ together. Neither Lucas nor Chloe were surprised by what they saw. Lucas lashed out at Stefano, saying he'd already ended things with Sami. Stefano told Lucas he wasn't going to punish him for shooting Elvis and noted it was a good idea for Lucas to move on with Chloe, since Sami's place was by EJ's side. "Go to hell!" barked Lucas. Lucas and Chloe returned to his room and Lucas checked out the phone, but it was still dead. He hugged Chloe and promised not to let anything happen to her. Lucas insisted he was sick of jumping through hoops for Sami. He vowed to concentrate on his future with his daughter and son. Chloe said she could be part of that future. The pair heard a baby crying and went off looking for it, when they heard Steve and Kayla yelling and pounding on their door. Kayla gave Lucas a code, he punched it in, and their door opened. Kayla and Steve ran toward the sound of the crying baby. It led them to a supply room, where they found Joe inside. Kayla picked him up and kissed him, as she noticed a mark on his wrist.

Abe, Roman and another cop rushed into Stefano's room, where he appeared on the TV screen and scolded hem for showing up late. He heard there was a dire situation there, but was able to get away. Stefano said he hoped the gas wouldn't have lasting effects on anyone. Then, he announced he wanted Marlena arrested for assault and attempted murder. If the police didn't bring Marlena to justice, Stefano threatened to punish her himself.

Friday

Stefano arrived at the DiMera mansion and told Rolf they had urgent business to take care of, although he would have to go underground for a while. Stefano gave Rolf a portfolio and asked him to guard it. Then, he left a message for Marlena. Stefano walked over to the chess board and broke the queen in half. He informed Rolf he was coming with him and told him to dismantle the lab, because they'd be moving it to a new location. Rolf said that was impossible — John already obliterated it. Stefano erupted, noting how destructive John and Marlena were. No matter, vengeance was Stefano's, and it would be sweet. Stefano vowed to raise a new generation of powerful DiMeras. The vendetta lived on.

Kayla told Roman that Stefano took Joe and did God knows what to him. Steve said the cops better lock Stefano up or he was going after him. Roman asked for the facts. Steve and Kayla explained about the gas, passing out, and waking up to find Joe gone. A nurse handed Joe to Kayla, assuring he was fine. Steve said he'd kill Stefano if he hurt their baby.

John entered Marlena's hospital room, as Lexie noted her brain activity had spiked. Marlena was regaining consciousness. John asked about the turnaround. Lexie noted the empty syringe that contained the antidote to Stefano's toxin, although she had no idea who administered it to Marlena. When Lexie went to run tests, Sami told John she could sense he loved Marlena. John said he didn't understand love, but had become more concerned since Stefano targeted Blondie. Sami left to be with the twins, while John stayed behind and urged Marlena to wake up. He said he knew he'd hurt her and Marlena's pain affected him. John swore Marlena was important to him. Soon, Marlena woke up. Lexie checked her, then went to run more tests. John went on about how strange the last few hours had been. He was now on a mission where failure wasn't an option. He told Marlena they needed to work on their relationship and called her, "Doc." Marlena retorted, "Who are you?"

Tony and EJ discussed Stefano. Tony brought up his father's transgressions and the fortune he amassed, noting it was theirs...but there was a problem. "You mean John Black," said EJ. Tony said they had to wrest control from anyone who wanted to sabotage the empire. EJ agreed. Tony left to find Anna, and Nicole arrived commenting on the infamous stairwell. EJ said he knew he'd hurt her. Nicole accused EJ of being cruel and insensitive. EJ said his situation with Sami was complicated, but insisted he had feelings for Nicole. That didn't make Nicole feel better, considering EJ had just been making out with Sami. Nicole said she wanted EJ out of her life and left. Later, Nicole commiserated with Lucas about EJ and Sami's encounter. For Lucas, it reinforced the fact he and Sami were over. Lucas left to check on Allie, leaving Nicole to chat with Chloe. The two gals had coffee and toasted to them standing strong against the forces of Sami. Nicole told Chloe about her and EJ and how furious she was at him for succumbing to Sami's charms. Chloe pointed out Nicole might still have a shot with him, since Sami always shot herself in the foot.

Tony interrupted Steve and Roman's chat about Stefano taking Joe. Tony was stunned. Roman asked if Tony knew where Stefano was. Tony didn't. Tony told Anna about Stefano taking the baby. Anna thought Stefano was a maniac. Tony vowed to take back the DiMera empire. He and EJ were joining forces. Anna didn't like the sound of that. Tony swore it was about bringing honor back to their name.

Sami and EJ returned to the mansion. EJ called out for Stefano, but no one was there. When one of the twins started crying, Sami got up to get a bottle, saw the broken chess piece, and got upset. "It's the queen," she said, noting Stefano used to call Marlena the queen of the night. It meant Stefano had been there, which meant the mansion was no longer safe. Sami insisted they get out of there. EJ didn't want to run from their problems. Lucas entered, and EJ snapped for him to go back wherever he came from. Lucas said that wasn't a problem. He'd just take his daughter and leave.
