Monday
Nicole met up with Jill, a pregnant teenager on the pier. She asked if Dr. Baker impregnated her. Jill said no, but realized that Nicole didn't know as much about the doc as she had previously indicated. She wanted to leave, then realized that Nicole was pregnant, too, and asked if she was "doing exactly what I am" and thinking about giving up her baby. Nicole said she was. Jill revealed that her daughter was going to a good home and Dr. Baker had arranged it because he was a baby broker. Moved by the teen's plight, Nicole gave her some money. Jill thanked her.
At Titan, Melanie flirted with Brady and asked him to lunch. Philip told her that Brady's future plans didn't include her. Brady said he wasn't aware he had a previous commitment. Philip said he wanted to discuss some work with his nephew. Melanie thought she should stay, but Philip pointed out to her that she merely owned the patents to the project, which did not warrant her being involved in their meeting or having a big office and a secretary. Brady interjected that they would come up with her job duties, then Philip sent her home. Brady and Philip squared off about her after. Brady accused Philip of making things too personal with Melanie.
Chloe entered the Brady Pub and asked Stephanie if Kate was around. Steph told her she'd be right down with Allie. Chloe sat with Steph, who congratulated Ms. Lane on her engagement. They discussed Kate; Chloe noted that Steph had a lot of info on her. Steph revealed that she was sort of seeing Philip. "Well, we should talk," said Chloe, who warned Steph that she might be Philip's rebound or he hers. Steph asked if Chloe still had feelings for him. Chloe insisted she wasn't jealous, but explained that she didn't want Philip and Steph to get their hearts broken. The girls bickered a little. Chloe explained that Philip wasn't the man she fell in love with and that when she dumped him for Brady, it destroyed him and he's been wary of getting involved with anyone ever since. "Okay, I get it. It's gonna be one big train wreck, so Philip and I should stay away from each other," Steph said. Steph then suggested that Chloe didn't seem too enthused about her engagement. Chloe insisted she was in love with Lucas and wanted to marry him, then took off in a huff. Melanie came in next, but Steph sighed that she was too busy studying for post-break exam to tangle with her. Melanie sat at another table and Julie joined her. Julie reported that she had visited Nick that morning and asked Melanie to keep her distance from him. Philip came into the pub, gave Steph a kiss on the nose and sat down. Melanie spied the exchange and rolled her eyes. Philip asked Steph to spend New Year's with him. She said she had planned to babysit Joe, but could get a replacement. And, they had to "wear funny hats," she smiled. Philip laughed and replied, "Of course. Hats are a must." They kissed. He suggested going to Chez Rouge. Melanie listened in, then hurried out. She called Maggie from her cell phone and told her she was coming to the New Year's celebration.
Sami and Rafe continued their chat about the orphanage at the church. Rafe thought it was crazy that she wanted to give her baby to the nuns. She explained that it was a better solution to her than the DiMeras raising the baby. He admitted that covering her didn't turn out to be such a bad assignment, after all. They played cards, using Christmas cookies as chips, and discussed the baby situation further. She explained that she didn't intend to give her baby away forever, just temporarily. He tried to dissuade her from doing it at all, pointing out that her child could be adopted while at the orphanage. She sighed that she hadn't thought it all through and asked to table the discussion for now. Meanwhile, the mayor's killer thought he had tracked them to their safe loft via Rafe's cell phone. He pulled his gun on who he thought was Rafe, but turned out to be a homeless guy who had Rafe's phone.
Brady ran into Chloe at the DiMera mansion. She had brought Allie by for a playdate with Johnny. Chloe told her ex that Nicole wasn't home, then added that being involved with her was a bad idea. Brady told her she was "whacked" for even suggestion he was interested in Nic. Just then, his cell phone rang. It was Nicole, but Brady didn't answer. Brady told her he had to go, so Chloe issued him a warning about getting on the bad side of the DiMeras — or Nicole.... A desperate Nicole headed to the clinic to confront Dr. Baker.
Tuesday
Chloe fantasized about having passionate sex with Daniel, though she was really having sex with Lucas, who noted her enthusiasm. He asked why she had been such a tiger in bed of late. She explained that he made her feel safe and secure and as a result, she was uninhibited. He was pleased and told her he loved her so much that it hurt at times. She suggested he visit Kate while she was at the hospital, which prompted him to tell her how selfless and beautiful she is. She insisted that she isn't.
Daniel brought Kate flowers at the Kiriakis manse and explained that he was having trouble concentrating at work and needed to be with her and hold her. He kissed her, but she said she wasn't in the mood. He apologized and said that he just wanted to hang out with her and watch old movies. He also assured her that her sex drive would return. He left.
Lucas arrived at the K manse to see his mother, who was checking out reception halls for his and Chloe's wedding. Lucas pointed out that they hadn't even set a date yet. Kate explained that she wanted the wedding to happen sooner than later. An alarmed Lucas asked why. She said she was okay, but just wanted Lucas and Chloe to have the wedding of the century "just in case."
Chloe went for her checkup, which she made earlier to try and avoid seeing Daniel. He came in anyway to look her over. It was awkward between them, so she told him that she felt strongly about having a different doctor because of the personal connection between them, Kate and Lucas. He said he would get Kayla on board. Later, Kate asked Daniel why Chloe changed doctors.
At the DiMera mansion, EJ looked at the diamond engagement ring he planned to give to Nicole. Stefano pulled out a document and handed it to his son, explaining that EJ should give it to Nicole, too. "Is this some kind of joke?" an outraged EJ asked when he realized it was a prenup. Stefano noted that his son was too trusting at times and that Nicole was only human. Plus, he added, she has been known to go after her husband's fortune. EJ refused to have Nicole sign anything, ever. Stefano said that he if he got married again, he would insist on a prenup. Before they could go any further into the discussion, Mary interrupted to tell the Phoenix that he had a phone call. When he returned, Stefano asked EJ to make some business calls for him later.
Nicole squared off with Dr. Baker at the clinic about his not revealing that he was a baby broker. He was surprised she knew, but tried to deny it. She demanded he get her a baby, pronto. He insisted he wasn't a baby broker, then tried to kick her out. She warned him he'd be making the worst mistake of his life if he walked out on her. He sighed and then revealed that he didn't tell her about his side business because she kept throwing the DiMera name around and that he didn't want to get tangled up with that family. She assured him things would be just between her and the doc. EJ called to check in on her; she said she'd be back soon. EJ told her he loved her and couldn't wait to see her. When she hung up, Dr. B asked why she didn't just tell EJ the truth. She said she would lose everything if she did. She pushed hard enough that Dr. Baker agreed that they had a deal.
At the hospital, John wrapped up a session with Charlotte. She thought it went well, but he didn't agree because he didn't have a breakthrough. He said their sessions were over. She urged him to give it time, but suggested doing hypnosis to speed things along. "No way in hell," he responded. "No one's gonna screw with my life again. Is that clear?" She offered to tape the sessions so he could view them later. He agreed to think about it.
Marlena ran into Tony at the Brady Pub and joined him at his table. They discussed the awkward Christmas Eve chez DiMera. She blamed John for making things uncomfortable and over a glass of wine, filled Tony in about Charlotte and John's new therapy sessions. Tony asked what would happen if John's memory never came back and he was never healed. Marlena declared that she couldn't give up on him. They left and chatted outside the Pub, where Tony suggested that Marlena ask John out for New Year's,. She replied that she planned to spend it at home, alone. "Ah, that sounds good," said John, who had just come to Pub. He added that he would spend the night alone by the fire in his room at the Salem Inn. Marlena wished him a Happy New Year. He said the same to her and walked away. Tony sadly noted to Doc Evans that he thought John would have asked her out. "Well, he didn't, did he? Sometimes I think he's got no feelings for me at all," she responded. They hugged and Tony took off. Charlotte approached and asked Marlena if she had plans for New Year's Eve. John spied them and listened in on their conversation. Charlotte asked Marlena to go to Chez Rouge with her. Marlena accepted. John smiled to himself.
Wednesday
A glammed-up Stephanie arrived at the Kiriakis manse for her date with Philip, but she worried she couldn't go through with their big, fancy date. He asked if she wanted to stay home and make comfort food, which made her decide to go to Chez Rouge after all. They kissed, which Lucas walked in on. Steph excused herself to take a phone call from a friend. Lucas asked Philip how things were going. Well, Philip smiled.
Chelsea went to the Brady Pub to see Max. "What's it going to be? Sex or football?" she asked. He laughed and asked what she meant. She explained that when guys wanted to talk, it was either about sex or football. He said he was giving up sex for New Year's, but would still be watching football. She tried to make things light by revealing her resolution and asked him to go to Chez Rouge with her. "I promise that I won't make fun of you," she teased him. He agreed to attend the party.
Charlotte and Marlena arrived at Chez Rouge. John surprised them and asked if three was a crowd. The trio sat down. John noted that Marlena didn't seem happy to see him. She reminded him that he not only left Christmas Eve without a word to her, he also said that he was going to spend New Year's Eve alone. He asked if it was a problem. Charlotte said it was and excused herself, explaining it wasn't appropriate for her to socialize with John, a patient. Marlena laid into him for "working" her and she left, too. John chided himself for how the evening unfolded. He then tracked Marlena down and apologized to her. She thanked him and wished him a Happy New Year, then gave him a kiss on the cheek. He looked confused as she walked off.
Julie and Doug toasted to each other at Chez Rouge.... Melanie went to the Chez Rouge bash and waited for Philip to arrive. He came in with Steph and Lucas. Melanie sashayed up, claiming she didn't know they would be there. Melanie was annoyed when they walked off. Julie approached Mel and warned her that she was totally on to her. Melanie tried to shrug it off with a smile.
At the hospital, Kate pressed Daniel to reveal why he was off Chloe's case. Chloe explained that she asked for the change because it would be less personal with another doctor. Kate then asked Chloe to move up the wedding date in case she didn't have a lot of time left. Chloe was speechless, but said she would talk to Lucas about it. Once alone, Kate pressed Daniel to explain what was going on between him and Chloe. Nothing, he insisted. She maintained that something was bothering her future daughter-in-law.
An irate EJ tried to handle DiMera business while waiting impatiently for Nicole, who was with Dr. Baker. Tony walked in and noted his little brother's stress. He offered to take over the conference call for EJ, but EJ said he didn't want to shirk his responsibilities. Tony implied that Stefano stirred things up to make trouble for EJ and distract him from Nicole, but Elvis didn't want to listen. "If father is trying to take hold of my life, it does not mean he's going to succeed," EJ said calmly. Tony went upstairs. EJ was relieved when Nicole returned home. He broke the news that he had to do a video conference call and would have to go to the office. She laughed and said it was fine. Chloe arrived at the mansion to talk to Nicole. They got coffee and walked on the pier. Chloe explained that Kate wanted to push up the wedding date and she was not sure she wanted to settle down. Nicole asked if there was someone else, but Chloe nervously said no, which made Nic suspicious. Chloe then confessed that there was someone else, but nothing had happened. Nicole asked if Chloe wanted to leave Lucas. No, she replied. Nicole said she was happy because Lucas and Chloe were good together. Chloe wondered if she should come clean with Lucas about her feelings. Nicole told her no. "Men need to think that theirs is the only song you dance to," Nicole reasoned. Her cell phone rang; it was Dr. Baker, who told her he may have found a baby. An ecstatic Nicole rushed off, urging Chloe to keep mum where Lucas was concerned. Chloe ran into Daniel. She twisted her ankle and couldn't walk, so he carried her to the hospital, but not before stopping to watch the New Year's fireworks on the water.
EJ, whose business didn't take long, returned to the DiMera manse to find Tony leaving — and Nicole nowhere to be found. He asked Mary where she was, but Mary didn't know. Nicole, meanwhile, had car trouble en route to the clinic. EJ sat along, drinking, awaiting her return.
Kate arrived at Chez Rouge, as did Chelsea and Max. They sat down with Lucas, Steph and Philip. When the champagne arrived, she toasted to everyone, then suggested that Philip ask Steph to dance. Once they left the table, Max excused himself to get some air but stopped to ask Melanie what was going on with her. She said she was doing well, then chatted with Philip at the bar. Chelsea and Max drank champagne together away from the table. When the clock struck midnight, they kissed passionately. She hurried off after.

Friday
Melanie sidled up to Philip at the New Year's party at Chez Rouge. Maggie walked by and spied Mel's hand on Philip's. Stephanie also found them together and strode over to her date and asked what was going on. Philip pulled Steph in for a passionate kiss, much to Mel's chagrin. After, Steph and Philip headed out to the docks. She asked him why Melanie kissed him. He insisted she didn't kiss him, but was trying to stir up trouble. Steph wanted to know if he kissed her for real or to prove a point to Melanie. He insisted it was for real and told her that kissing her was the highlight of his evening. She suggested he kiss her again to make up for the semi-manipulated one before.
Lucas was alarmed when he couldn't find Chloe. Kate noted that Daniel was MIA, too. On the docks, Daniel tended to Chloe's sprained ankle. He carried her to the hospital but not before stopping to watch the fireworks. They nearly kissed, but his cell phone rang. He didn't answer it, but it was Kate. The duo headed to the hospital and called Lucas and Kate, who hurried over. They thanked him for being a lifesaver, as usual. Daniel and Kate headed back to the Kiriakis mansion for champagne. Kate toasted to him and for never giving up on her. "I owe you everything," she said. He tried to play it off, but she said not to. Chloe and Lucas returned to Chez Rouge to find the place empty, but Maggie left it open for them. They recreated the countdown and wished each other a Happy New Year.
In the safe loft, Sami watched the fireworks, but Rafe told her to get away from the window. He tried to toast to the New Year with her but she threw her glass of cider in anger. She apologized, but he was understanding of her outburst. She wondered if he was okay about working a holiday. He said he always volunteered to work holidays. She asked why. He accused her of pumping him for info about his personal life. They bickered then changed into their pajamas and went to sleep. Sami tossed and turned, remembering seeing the twins on Christmas via computer. Rafe asked if she was okay. She said she was worried about her kids — and EJ.
Brady arrived at the DiMera manse for the New Year's party, only to have EJ tell him that it was canceled. Brady asked if Nicole was there, but an annoyed EJ told him no. Brady wondered why she would take off on New Year's Eve. EJ said it was because of him, because he had to work. The phone rang — it was Dr. Baker, looking for Nicole. EJ told him she wasn't home, then demanded to know why the doc was calling. He explained that he was returning Nicole's call and had been in delivery before, hence the lateness of the hour. He hung up before EJ could get more information. Brady took off. A frustrated Nicole sat in her car, which had broken down. Brady found her on the side of the road and took her to the clinic. When they arrived, Dr. Baker revealed that the pregnant mother had left and wasn't going to give her baby to Nicole. Nic broke down in tears. "That was my baby," she cried. Brady comforted her. Nicole realized she had to come clean with EJ. She returned home to find him waiting for her. She apologized for taking off and not telling him. She said she had to tell him the truth. He replied that he's known all along. She was surprised and speechless, but he didn't know the real truth she wanted to tell. He quietly told her that he took her love and sacrifices for granted. "You came into my home, into my life and into my family and never complained or judged me," he explained. "And you did all of this for our baby." He said it was insensitive that he worked on New Year's Eve and told her how worried he was when he couldn't find her. He then got on one knee and proposed to her with a big diamond ring. "Yes! Yes!" she replied enthusiastically. They kissed.
