Monday
Shawn and Belle happily decorated the Pub for New Year's Eve. Shawn remarked how much he loved when Belle dressed down Philip at Chez Rouge. Belle admitted that she just snapped. Philip looked in from outside, then got a call from Chloe, who told him she was being followed and was about to be arrested. He said he'd get her a lawyer if she's busted, then hung up and went back to watching Shawn and Belle. Caroline came in and asked Shawn to get her some champagne, leaving Belle alone. Philip came in; Belle told him to go. He talked about their future and told her he would wait for her. She told him they had no future and that she wanted him to stay away from her. "Not until you admit you made a mistake. I love you too much to let you throw your life away," he declared. She insisted she didn't regret marrying Shawn, but did admit to bring attracted to Philip. "I love Shawn," she insisted, then proceeded to tell Philip how much she loves it when Shawn runs his hands over her body. A smirky Philip told her he didn't buy what she was saying, but before they could talk further, Shawn came in. After a few heated words, Philip left. Belle apologized to Shawn, who assured her she did nothing wrong. "Yeah, I did. This is my fault," she said softly, then dropped the bomb that she slept with Philip.
EJ played with the twins while Sami went to track down Lucas. Stefano, accompanied by a new bodyguard, arrived with a pram to take Johnny for a walk. EJ refused. Stefano was angry. EJ explained that he was holding Allie and that Johnny was asleep. Stefano pressed EJ for a reason he couldn't take the boy. Elvis finally asked what his plan was regarding the baby. Stefano asked him why he was acting that way. EJ confessed that he didn't believe if Stefano took his son that he would bring him back. "Please take your pram and leave. There's nothing for you here," EJ explained. Stefano explained that either EJ was a devoted son to Stefano and a good DiMera or he was the enemy. "There is no in between," he warned. Elvis asked his father how far he was willing to go to get what he wants. Stefano softened and remarked what a dark day it was that EJ turned on him. "Haven't I been a good father to you? Have I not show you love, taken care of you, given you everything you ever needed? Didn't I?" he lamented. EJ assured him he did, but explained that he was just being careful. EJ then noted that there were many secrets in the DiMera family and that Stefano shouldn't take Johnny from him. "Do you understand what I'm saying?" he asked pointedly. "You're an ingrate. A turncoat," Stefano fumed. "You raised me a DiMera, father. And as you know, that makes for a very dangerous enemy," EJ retorted.
Sami tracked Lucas and Kate to the airport and urged him not to flee. A teary Sami apologized for hurting him and taking him for granted while she obsessed over the vendetta. He finally admitted that he lied to her and that yes, he did shoot EJ. "My only regret is that EJ didn't die," he said calmly. Sami was distraught. He tried to touch her, but she told him he couldn't put her arms around her to make it better. "Nothing can make this better," she cried.
Chloe called Philip to meet her at the station. He arrived and Roman brought Philip in to see her. Roman told him that the Vienna police want Chloe arrested. Chloe finally admitted to Philip that men broke into her and Brady's apartment, grabbed Brady and tied him up. Brady knocked over a glass and cut his hand so there was blood everywhere. "I tried to help him, but I couldn't," she said. He asked her if she called the cops. She said no because she and Brady had been fighting and the police had already been there at the neighbors behest and she worried she would be the prime suspect in Brady's kidnapping. She said she had been looking for him, but then got a note telling her to back off and stop nosing around or else she'd never see Brady again. "So you just bailed on him, hopped on a plane and hightailed it out of there," Philip observed. She said she came to Salem to get help from Philip. "You have money and power and connections all over the world," she pointed out.
Kate secretly called EJ to berate him for helping Sami track Lucas down. He returned to Lucas and Sami and revealed that Sami used EJ to track them down and that EJ was watching the twins. Kate implored Lucas to run away, as did Sami once they heard sirens. "I'm sorry, Sami. I love you," Lucas told her. Roman showed up, asking where Kate and Lucas were going. Kate begged for 10 minutes to get away, but Roman said no and arrested Lucas.
Tuesday
DAYS OF OUR LIVES was preempted. Happy New Year!
Wednesday
Marlena's neighbor came by and asked if she was going to attend their New Year's party, but Marlena begged off, preferring to read a book. She sat by the fireplace, looked at a photo of John, then got up and went to her room.
Over pizza, Bo and Roman discussed the Brady/Chloe situation. A messenger came in with a delivery for Bo, and a letter. It was from Hope, instructing him to come to Chez Rouge because she had plans for his lips at midnight. Roman agreed to cover for his brother and Bo left.
At Chez Rouge, Steve and Kayla danced and kissed and talked. A tuxedo-clad Bo arrived and chatted with Hope and Maggie. Marlena, resplendent in a green gown, arrived next. They sat at the table with the Johnsons, but not before Steve complimented Marlena and even dipped her. He explained he was feeling "romantical." Marlena toasted to "cherished friends and long and happy lives together." Hope toasted to a girls weekend at a decadent spa. Bo toasted to Hope, Kayla and Marlena. Kayla and Steve went to dance and she told him she'd like him to have some fertility tests done. He said he would. Marlena, Bo and Hope discussed Brady's disappearance, then the Bradys got up to dance. They talked about having a Sunday family night like they did when Shawn was younger. Hope said that was her New Year's resolution. At the table, Marlena looked at the photo of John as a child. A man came over to Doc Evans and asked her to dance, but she told him maybe later. Crystal came into Chez Rouge and she and Marlena exchanged a look. Crystal left, so Marlena followed her out, demanding to know what she was doing there. Crystal explained that she was looking for Marlena. Crystal told her that Brady was in danger and told her that John received a photo before he died that ties into it. Before they could talk further, Bo, Hope, Kayla and Steve came out and Crystal rushed off.
At the station, Chloe tried to explain to Philip what happened the night Brady disappeared. Philip offered to help get her off the hook as long as she moved in on Shawn and got close to him. Chloe was stunned. "Shawn is in love with his wife. End of story," she announced. He urged her to take the deal, but she was reluctant. He dangled a power attorney in front of her, which made her change her mind. Chloe then recalled that the people who took Brady also threatened Belle.
At the Brady Pub, Belle tearily confessed to sleeping with Philip after John died, but insisted it didn't mean anything and that she loved Shawn. Shawn couldn't answer at first, then asked when it happened. She assured him it was before they got married and begged for forgiveness. "I don't blame you. I blame myself," he said softly. "I chose to trust you one too many times." She refused to give up, insisting she loved him. He told her they were just words and that she didn't know how to love anyone. "I was just too blind to see it," he said. Through many tears, she urged him to work through it, but he said he wanted a divorce. She said no. He suggested she move in with her mother that night. Belle departed. Philip found her in tears outside the Pub. He asked what was wrong. She told him that she and Shawn broke up because she told him about her and Philip. Philip told her about Chloe's warning, but Belle told Philip and Chloe to go to hell.
Marlena rushed into the station, demanding to see Chloe. Chloe told her she couldn't say anything on the advice of her lawyer. After, Marlena went home and found a weepy Belle on her couch and comforted her daughter. Once Belle fell asleep, Marlena gazed at a photo of John.
The Bradys and Johnsons went to the Brady Pub for when the clock struck 12. Shawn drank a beer alone behind the bar.
Thursday
Belle admitted to Marlena that she'd had a sleepless night and regretted telling Shawn about her one-nighter with Philip. Doc Evans remained hopeful that Shawn would forgive Belle. There was a knock at the door, it was Shawn, holding Baby Claire. Shawn, who had nothing to say to his wife, dropped off the tot and left. He returned to the Brady Pub and thanked Hope for not asking a lot of questions about his troubles with Belle. She tentatively admitted that she knew something had happened with Philip. "You should have told me," he admonished. Shawn vowed not to let Belle screw up his life anymore. Hope suggested that once he calms down, he might want to work things out, but Shawn was stuck on getting a divorce. Back at Marlena's place, Belle whimpered that Shawn is her soul mate. After more reassurances, Marlena urged her daughter to go see Sami, explaining that Lucas was arrested. While Belle was on her way out, Roman arrived. He realized that Marlena doesn't want Belle to hear about Crystal's prediction that John is alive. He reported what he found out about the picture of a young John and the woman identified as "Mama." The necklace she is pictured wearing is a Celtic design that symbolizes a warrior. Talk turned to Crystal, Marlena was determined to find her.
At the police station, where Lucas was waiting to be arraigned, the suspect was convinced that the ballistics report would sink him. Philip hissed at him to stop acting guilty. Kiriakis insisted that his brother is a hero and praised him for having the strength to shoot EJ and "take back [his] life." Philip vowed that they'd find a cooperative judge. After leaving Lucas, Philip made a call to someone who he ordered to go to the courthouse to "take care of that little legal problem."
EJ visited Sami and offered to help Lucas, warning that Stefano will not forgive an attempt on his son's life. Sami chewed him out and argued that Lucas has not been proven guilty. EJ surprised her by announcing that he'd told Stefano to back off and not interfere with the way he and Sami raise their son. She surmised that he has some serious leverage on the Phoenix. Afterward, she told him thanks, but no thanks on his offer to help, saying that Lucas has Kate, who will undoubtedly have a plan. She expressed frustration with Lucas, which prompted a smirk from EJ. After EJ departed, Belle and Claire arrived at Sami's door. Crystal lurked in the hallway and made a cryptic call.
Hope and Shawn's conversation about Belle was interrupted by Philip, who announced that Belle is in danger. He explained that he's just repeating what Chloe said. Shawn refused to talk to Philip, who left and then called Marlena, asking to speak to Belle. He claimed he wanted to talk about a mix up with Claire's school records. Marlena told him that that Belle is with Sami.
At the DiMera manse, an impatient Stefano barked at Rolf about their guest's readiness. Rolf claimed the guest needs more time, but Stefano wouldn't hear of it. Later on, EJ came by and Rolf answered the door. He was trying to give him the brush off when a man's scream filled the air. Stefano entered and told EJ their guest doesn't want to be disturbed. EJ asked his father to give his word that Lucas would not be killed before the trial. Stefano scoffed at the son and said it's too late.... During Sami and Belle's heart-to-heart, Crystal, who was accompanied by a man, came to the door. They claimed to be new neighbors and asked Belle to move her car. Once they were in the hall, Crystal called Belle by name and asked her to come with her. Belle flipped out, but fortunately, Philip arrived and Crystal and the man took off. Philip repeated Chloe's warning, telling Belle that the men who were after Brady were after her, too. Philip wanted to get her a bodyguard, but Belle argued about it.... Lucas called Sami and left a message saying that he loves her. Back at the jail, after a speedy arraignment, Lucas escorted to his cell and left alone with another inmate, Stefano's henchman, Carmine.... Marlena phoned Stefano, the unseen mystery guest picked up the phone as she identified herself and asked to speak to DiMera.
Friday
At Marlena's townhouse, Philip and Belle filled in Doc Evans about what happened with Crystal and Rob. They suspected it had something to do with Chloe's warning. Belle tried to downplay it, but Philip reminded her how fearful she was. Marlena agreed with Philip. Philip suggested she get a bodyguard. Marlena said she'd call Roman to get a policeman assigned to Belle and Claire. Belle said she didn't want one and told Philip she didn't want his help. Belle went to check on Claire; Marlena told Philip she'd be taking care of Belle and asked him to leave. Belle came back in with a hungry Claire. Marlena took her granddaughter to the kitchen. Once alone, Phil apologized to Belle for overstepping. He went to leave, but she stopped him and told him that she couldn't fix things with Shawn if Philip was hanging around all the time. Phil explained that he feels a responsibility to make sure she and Claire stay safe. He insisted he had no ulterior motive, gave her a hug and left. The phone rang. Marlena called out to Belle to get it. It was Crystal, who mistook her for Marlena and said, "We didn't mean your daughter any harm." Belle alerted Marlena that it was the woman from Sami's apartment building. Marlena took the phone and asked Crystal what happened. Crystal told her that she was trying to help Belle. "By scaring the living daylights out of her?" Marlena asked. Crystal warned Marlena that Belle was in danger and asked Doc Evans to meet her at the Brady Pub in 15 minutes for more information and hung up. Belle implored her mother not to go but Marlena said she had to.
Sami called Carrie to try and get in touch with Will. Carrie said Will was out. Sami groused to Roman that Will wouldn't take her calls and she needed to tell him that Lucas was arrested. Roman assured her he'd come around. He then suggested that Lucas call Will and tell him what was going on. Sami pointed out that Lucas couldn't make overseas calls from jail. Roman said he'd take care of it. She thanked him for helping out. He decided to call Will himself. Will picked up for Roman and told him all about his Christmas. Roman put Will on the phone with Sami. Sami told Will about Lucas. "I knew he'd get caught," Will told her. Sami was stunned to realize that Will knew about what Lucas did to EJ. Will asked Sami to tell Lucas that he loved him. She said she would. Will hung up. Sami fumed to Roman that Lucas confided in Will.
EJ turned up at the jail, asking to see Lucas, but the cop said no. EJ warned that Lucas was in serious danger. Kate arrived and EJ reported that he thinks Stefano sent someone after Lucas. Kate asked why EJ cares about her son's safety.
Stefano got a call and told the person on the other end that Lucas had to pay for what he did to EJ. In jail, Carmine, Stefano's henchman, introduced himself to Lucas. Lucas told him he wasn't looking to make friends. A cop came and told Lucas he had a visitor. He hoped it was Sami, but it was Kate. She asked him if he had any run-ins since he'd been there. He told her about his cell mate. She told him she was worried about Stefano, but Lucas insisted he was fine because he was behind bars. The two argued over Sami. Lucas told her to leave and asked the guard to take Kate's name off of his visitor list. A stung Kate told her son she loves him and would never turn her back on him. Back in the station, Kate encountered EJ, who asked what happened with Lucas. Kate reported that Lucas told her nobody had threatened him. EJ spied a photo of Carmine on a cop's desk. EJ punched the cop so he would get thrown in the cell with Lucas and Carmine.
Dr. Rolf tried to talk to Stefano about their houseguest, but a busy Stefano told the doc to take care of it himself. Stefano found his houseguest in the living room, smoking one of his cigars.
Belle called Roman and told her about Marlena's meeting with Crystal. Roman vowed to find Doc. Belle, who said she'd meet him at the station.... In the alley, Marlena had car trouble. Her cell phone rang. It was Belle, but Marlena couldn't get to her phone in time. Suddenly, she spied a hooded figure and told him to stop.
Philip visited Sami at her apartment and tried to get her to help him with Lucas. She refused. Philip urged her to visit Lucas and talk to him. She decided to go and give her ex-hubby a piece of her mind.
