DAYS Week of February 11, 2008

Monday

Lucas was happy to see that Sami came to visit him, as requested. She said she wished she’d known about the sentencing hearing. He said he’d be gone for 8 to 10 years. He asked where Allie was. Sami told him the baby was sick and she couldn’t bring her. They talked about why he shot EJ. He told her he did it all for her. “I had everything under control,” Sami pointed out. “I know you did. And I didn’t trust you, all right? It’s my fault. I screwed up,” he replied. He then told her he loved her, never stopped loving her and would always love her. She told him she felt the same way. He said he would work hard to get an early release by being the model inmate. He told her he didn’t expect for her to wait for him, but would she promise that she’d always love him. “I love you and you are a part of me. No on can ever take that away from me,” she assured him. He asked her not to trust EJ and to be careful around him. Lucas then gave her a DVD for Allie with a bunch of messages on it for her to watch on her birthday, etc. They had an emotional hug and kiss good-bye.

At the safe house, an overwhelmed EJ took care of both babies, who were crying. Tony came by and was amused to see his baby bro playing Mr. Mom. There was a knock at the door. It was Anna, who came bearing gifts. She asked Tony what he was doing there. “I could ask you the same question,” he retorted. EJ interrupted their banter to ask Anna for help with the babies. Anna was thrilled to hold Johnny. She asked where Sami was. EJ told her about Sami’s visit to Lucas. Tony assured EJ that Sami would forget about her ex. “The way you forgot about me, darling,” Anna queried, then left in a huff. EJ couldn’t help but laugh at his brother’s exasperation.

The Ireland group boarded the plane to return to Salem. Shawn, Sr. was sad to leave his sister. Bo and Hope comforted him. Belle, Shawn and Claire sat together. Philip tried to cheer up Chloe, who was bummed they didn’t find Brady. Steve and Kayla came aboard next. Hope thanked Steve for his help with finding Claire. Steve rushed off after he saw a woman out the plane window. Kayla called after him. John and Marlena got on board and John called the pilot to get going. “Hold on. Steve’s not on the plane,” Kayla explained. John told her the tower was delaying them anyway to de-ice the plane. Kayla headed after Steve and asked what he was doing outside. He was evasive.

Marlena asked John if he was okay. He insisted he was fine. She said he seemed sad. “I don’t do sad,” John replied. She tried to get him to talk about what happened with Colleen —and what he saw on the mountaintop after they scattered the ashes. He admitted he thinks he saw Colleen and Santo, but dismissed it as a hallucination and didn’t want to discuss it further. Marlena went to check on Shawn, Sr. and told Bo, Hope and Shawn, Sr. what John saw on the mountaintop. “All I saw was green. Everywhere. Green, green, green,” John interrupted. Marlena continued that she believes Colleen and Santo found peace after their ashes were scattered.

Steve returned to the plane, but didn’t want to talk about why he took off like he did. Bo pressed for details and Steve fibbed that he left his cell phone in the terminal. Kayla didn’t buy it.

Marlena called Sami from the plane to tell her what happened with Colleen and that she thinks that Santo and Colleen were reunited after death. She added that she wished her daughter could have been there. They got ready for takeoff.

Once airborne, Bo told Hope he needed to tell her something. She asked what it was. He said he didn’t have all the facts yet, so he couldn’t be specific. He admitted that Kayla didn’t come over to Ireland just to bring Shawn. She asked what was going on. He told her he would take care of it and she would have to trust him. He asked her to let it go, but she said he was asking a lot of her to do so.

The plane lurched. Hope told everyone to put their seat belts on. “Uh-oh,” John said, with an amused tone.

Tuesday

On the plane, Shawn and Belle tried to calm Claire, who was rattled by the plane lurching. A concerned Hope noted to Bo that it wasn't just a little turbulence. Philip talked a nervous Chloe down. John gave Marlena an explanation for why the plane dropped, which she found unnerving since he could remember that and not her. He said he didn't know why he even knew about converging air masses, so she explained that he was a pilot. Up in the cockpit, the pilots discussed that the controls were "mushy." John entered the cockpit. The pilot told them that the instruments weren't responding properly and the plane was getting harder to fly. John got into the pilot's seat. They had clearance to land in Iceland, but it was far. The co-pilot said there was a closer airport, so they decided to land there. They contacted the control tower, but got no response.

Philip asked Chloe what was bothering her. She said it was both Brady and the flight. Philip tried to reassure her that everything was fine on both counts. She asked how many times he'd been in love. "The same amount as you," he replied.

Hope wondered if Bo's back still hurt. Marlena asked what was going on and noted that he looked pale. Hope excused herself to check on Belle, Claire and Shawn. Marlena questioned Bo further. He admitted that he had news to tell Hope and it wasn't good. "Hope and I are going to have a bumpy road ahead and we'll need your expertise, but for now I'd prefer to keep this to myself," he explained. Hope sat with Steve and Kayla and told them enough with the secrets. "Take that 'I have no idea what you're talking about' look off your faces. Bo is worried sick about something. I need to know what it is," she said. The two kept mum.

John came out of the cockpit and asked for Marlena's cell phone. There was no signal. He then asked if anyone had a cell signal. The worried passengers asked why. John calmed them by explaining that they were having radio trouble. Nobody had reception. Marlena remarked that it was getting cold on board. Philip retrieved some blankets. The co-pilot came out and whispered to John that they were losing cabin pressure. Chloe asked if they were going to crash. John said no, then returned to the cockpit and took over in the co-pilot's seat. Steve came up to the cockpit to check on things. John suggested dumping the fuel, but Steve urged him not to. Steve returned to the cabin and gave them all an update.

In Salem, Roman found an upset Kate sitting on a park bench. He gave her his handkerchief to wipe her tears. "Is it Lucas?" he asked. "Yes," she replied. She urged him to help her son, but he said there was nothing he could do. "And you know damn well I would do anything for Sami. The thought of her raising those kids by herself just kills me," he elaborated. "And now [Lucas is] being ripped away from the lives of the people who need him most." Kate fumed further, asking what Roman knew about people being ripped out of his life. "I know plenty," he said softly. She asked if he meant Marlena. "Not just Marlena," he responded. Kate worried for her son's safety in prison. Roman assured her that he'd probably be in a minimum security facility. She apologized for pushing him and admitted she felt helpless. "I care about you, Kate. I care about you, still do, always will. And I like Lucas. But why in the hell did he have to shoot EJ?" Roman sighed.

Victor and Caroline happened to meet up in the park. He picked a tulip and she marveled at his flower knowledge. They talked about Bo. Victor admitted that while he wishes he could have raised Bo, Shawn did a good job. Caroline reminded Victor that he was Bo's blood and nothing could take that away. He gave her the tulip. Chelsea came upon them and was excited to find them together. "So how did you guys end up having my dad?" she asked. They balked at telling her at first, but she cajoled them. Caroline told her it never should have happened, which prompted Chelsea to point out that Bo wouldn't be there then. "You're right. Your grandmother may regret what happened, but neither one of us regretted the result," Vic corrected. Caroline and Vic told their tale: Caroline, Victor and Shawn grew up together and she was in love with Victor, but then Vic's mom sent him to Greece to build up the Kiriakis shipping line. Caroline and Shawn grew close and married. Victor returned years later and they had "a moment's indiscretion." The truth came out when Bo was assigned to a case that involved Victor. He was about to shoot Vic when Caroline blurted out that Vic was Bo's father. (Cue the fab '80s flashbacks!) Chelsea asked why Shawn didn't leave her. "Because he loved me," Caroline replied.

Wednesday

On the perilous flight from Ireland, John and Steve debated — argued about — dumping fuel. Marlena gave instructions on how to avoid hypothermia. Steve assured Marlena that John would be able to co-pilot the plane. He also explained to the fearful Salem crowd that there was an electronic problem. John filled in Marlena on how they were losing cabin pressure, but vowed not to let the plane crash.

At the safe house, EJ questioned Sami about her visit with Lucas. She reluctantly admitted that Lucas would be away for a long time and she's only see him behind a pane of glass in the visiting room. EJ was very understanding, which surprised Sami, who expected him to be jerky. " Samantha, I hate to see you upset. I mean, that makes me truly unhappy," he cooed. He then totally blamed Lucas for causing his own problems, but wistfully acknowledged that Sami still loves Lucas. Once he left the room, she sat down with Allie to watch the good-bye video from Lucas. EJ crept back in and saw Sami crying. Sami was eager to leave their safe house, but EJ said it wasn't so bad and suggested board games or a round of cards. They bickered about who would win, but the playful argument was interrupted by Abe, who announced that they could now leave the safe house. Abe cautioned that even though Stefano is in a coma, Sami should still watch her back. EJ confessed that he was going to miss having his son under the same roof as him. She said he could come visit whenever, as long as he called first. He asked if he could also spend time with Allie, too. Sami was concerned he'd get too close and bond. He argued that the baby needs a father figure and Lucas can't be one while he's in prison.

"Thank you for the best day I've had in a long time," Stephanie said to Max, who called her beautiful. They talked about how much she missed their parents and hoped they'd come home soon. He joked about saving Stephanie's life in the supermarket (saving her from a reckless wheelchair-user). "When somebody saves your life ... you owe them your allegiance," she teased, he asked if she'd be his "slave." Flirting ensued and he got smoochy, but then pulled back. She said she wanted to kiss him.

Back on the plane, Bo told Marlena that John is piloting solo, the other ones were drugged, meaning the plane was sabotaged.
Marlena: Well, the thing is that right now john is the only pilot. Chloe cried, "What do you mean someone sabotaged the plane? Who would want us all dead?" Marlena told everyone that they were rapidly losing oxygen.

Thursday

Lexie and Abe discussed Colleen's death at the station. She told him she was worried that she couldn't get in touch with anyone on the plane and asked if he could get flight info. He could tell she was worried about something and asked what was up. She told him about Bo. He was happy to hear they were on their way home. "I hope it's not too late," Lexie sighed. "Too late for what?" queried Chelsea, who just walked in with Stephanie. The girls told Abe they were worried about their parents. Abe called air traffic control to see what time the jet took off and reported that the plane was en route. They were relieved and had some small talk. Abe told the girls they could go and he promised he'd let them know if he heard anything. Just as they were going to leave, Abe got a call back from air traffic control and told the girls to wait. He reported that the tower hadn't heard from the plane.

On the plane, a freezing Chloe freaked out when John calmly told them they were going to die. He told her he was trying to be realistic, then told them to put their oxygen masks on. Uh oh: some didn't work. "Well, then, we're not all gonna make it," John pointed out. They had and hour and a half worth of oxygen and two hours of fuel. "Do the math," he announced. Grandpa Shawn offered his up to share with Bo. Steve said he'd share with Kayla. Bo got up to see if there were portable oxygen tanks and was unsteady on his feet. An alarmed Hope asked if he was okay. He said he was a little dizzy. He also said he had a stomach ache. Chloe suggested they draw straws to determine who got the oxygen. "And what about everybody else, huh? What, do you want us to sit there and watch our loved ones suffocate?" Shawn huffed. Steve suggested the working masks go to the women, but Kayla, Hope and Marlena balked at that. Marlena told them all to share. John said he wasn't sharing his since he needed to be clear-headed. Steve offered to check the mechanics, since he was once good at hot-wiring cars. John checked out the tail section for damage. Kayla didn't want Steve to go, but he said he had to. When he left, Kayla confided to Marlena that she was pregnant and hadn't told Steve yet. Marlena told her to make sure she didn't do anything to endanger the fetus. John returned and said he didn't know what he was looking at in the tail section. Kayla urged him to think harder. John went up to the cockpit and found Steve passed out in the pilot's seat. He gave him oxygen, but Steve didn't respond. John found a tool and tried to fix the oxygen tank so Steve could get air. It worked: Steve came to.

Philip calmed down a panicky Chloe. He and Shawn both felt that they should be helping Steve, but Belle and Chloe said they needed the guys with them. Belle told Shawn that she loved him with her heart and soul. Chloe lamented that she'd never see Brady or her parents again. Philip told her to believe that she would.

Hope gave the oxygen to Grandpa Shawn, but he refused it. "I'm the oldest person on this plane I've lived a long life and I've made peace with my sister, Colleen. And now it's time for me to make peace with God," he explained. Hope urged him not to give up. Bo finally told Hope and his father that he was sick and it could be cancer. Hope refused to believe it. "You should have told me the moment you knew, Brady," she admonished. Bo and Shawn argued over who should have the oxygen. Shawn, Sr. insisted Bo and Hope use it. Hope gave it back to her father-in-law and told both men to keep fighting.

Bo got up to check on Steve and John, but there was a bang and the lights went out and Bo got knocked to the ground. He was unconscious. Shawn helped to get Bo back in his seat. Hope gave him oxygen, then returned the mask to Shawn, Sr, who refused to take any and insisted Bo get it all. Bo came to and ordered his father to take the oxygen. "No. I'm ready. I'll die happy knowing that I saved my son," he replied.

Friday

Roman came into the station and asked what was wrong. Abe told him that John's plane was having problems on the way back from Ireland. Caroline and Max joined Stephanie and Chelsea at the station. Roman and Max urged everyone to be calm until they knew the facts. Abe told the group that Homeland Security was tracking the plane and that its altitude, course and airspeed had remained constant. Caroline was relieved, but Roman told her that the plane was going to run out of fuel soon. Lexie noted that pilots were trained for such an emergency. Abe also tried to reassure them that there might just be radio trouble. Steph said it had to be more than that. The group began to panic.

On board in the cockpit, Steve wasn't amused by John's carefree attitude about the potential crash. “We got our family and friends back there! Now, we're not just giving up!” he yelled. John was determined to regain control of the plane and land it. He suggested dumping the fuel.

In the back, the worried passengers gasped for air. Grandpa Shawn refused to put on his oxygen mask, despite Hope's pleas. Hope fetched Kayla and told her that Bo and Shawn, Sr. were refusing oxygen. Kayla rushed over and insisted her father take the oxygen. He still said no. She told him she was pregnant and that his grandbaby would need him. He told her he was thrilled for her, but that she still had to let him go. “I love you all so much... And I'll be up there, watching over you ... over our whole family ... standing right there next to my sister,” he said gently. She tried to argue with him, but he wouldn't budge. “Now let me go, before the devil knows I'm gone,” he told her, then slipped away. Kayla and Hope began to cry and Hope covered his face with a blanket. After, Hope asked Kayla if Bo was going to die. Kayla said she'd do everything she could to save him.

Belle cried to Marlena that Claire was cold and she didn't know what to do. Doc Evans comforted her daughter, then advised everyone to conserve their energy and pray.

The oxygen ran out. The passengers began to gasp. Everyone began to exchange “I love yous,” then passed out. John remained awake and dumped the fuel. When Steve came to, John told him what he did and urged Steve to start jamming wires and take control of the yoke. Once they regained control, and were below 10,000 feet, the oxygen came back, much to the relief of the passengers. Marlena called up to John in the cockpit. She told him she loved him (“Good to know,” he replied) and he told her to prepare the cabin for an emergency landing. She told everyone to buckle up and brace themselves. Bo came to and saw that his father didn't have his mask on. “Bo, I'm sorry,” Hope said. “It was supposed to be me! It was supposed to be me!” an anguished Bo cried. Up in the cockpit, Steve spied land. “Oh, dear Lord, when we hit the ground, please cushion the blow. Amen,” he prayed. John guided him to a landing, despite having no landing gear. Everybody screamed as the plane went down.

Back in Salem, Abe got word that there was a change in the plane's status. Caroline asked if the plane crashed. Roman called NORAD, then said that they were sending rescue planes to the projected crash site. Everybody prayed.
