DAYS Week of February 22, 2010

Monday

Brady was confused to get a text from EJ, asking him to meet at the pier. Arianna thought it might be about Sydney. Brady agreed and headed out. EJ got a call from Anna en route to his meeting with Brady. She told him that what he was doing was "beyond cruel". EJ threatened to have her arrested if she persisted in pointing out that he was hurting Sami. Brady arrived, so EJ hung up. EJ told Brady that Sydney was dead and that he wanted Brady to deliver the news to Nicole. Brady was very sorry.

Rafe entered the Pub and yelled on his cell phone to someone about dragging the river. Ari was alarmed and asked what was up. Rafe told her about the clothing discovery in the river that appeared to be Sydney's. He insisted it didn't prove anything. They sat down. He revealed that Sami was mad at him and didn't want him around.

Ari came upon Brady and EJ on the pier. She told EJ she heard about Sydney from Rafe and said she was sorry. EJ told her that Sydney was dead because of Rafe. Ari was upset on her brother's behalf. EJ took off. Ari unloaded on Brady.

He calmed her down, then revealed that EJ wanted Brady to tell Nicole about Sydney. Ari flipped out and said declared that she hoped the news would kill Nicole. Brady assured her that she had nothing to worry about with Nicole.... Rafe went to the townhouse to see Sami, but EJ answered the door.

Bo summoned his father to the police station to talk about Vivian. He pressed him about switching the poisoned combs. "You duplicated a murder victim, Victor... It won't be hard to prove accessory after the fact. Maybe even conspiracy," he said. An amused Victor wasn't threatened. "I've indulged you because you're my son. But pull this stunt again and I'll have my lawyer file charges for harassment," Victor retorted. He also noted that Carly was the one at fault in this situation and left. Abe came in and pointed out that the interrogation didn't go well. Bo said he had to try. The mayor advised Bo to tell Carly to keep a low profile. Bo agreed that Carly needs to stay away from Melanie. And Vivian, Abe added. He also reminded Bo that since he paid Carly's bail, everything she did was his responsibility. After Abe left, Bo tried to call Carly, but she didn't pick up.

At the Kiriakis mansion, an infuriated Philip yelled for Vivian to come down. He grabbed a fireplace poker and demanded to know what happened at the reception. He became increasingly vexed and declared that he was angry with Victor and wanted him to pay. "I kill you and I get to see him suffer," Philip said, then grabbed her and put the poker to her neck. He released her, then nearly smacked her with the poker. He then said her she wasn't worth it. Phil accused her of taking Melanie to the roof to finish the job she started. Vivian denied it. "I can see why you and my father get along. You both have a story for everything," Philip scoffed.

In Melanie's room, Carly cried for Melanie to wake up. The teen opened her eyes and asked what Carly was doing there. Carly explained to Mel that she had an accident. As Mel mind cleared, she yelled for Philip, then began to cry when she felt her injury. Melanie asked what happened. Carly told her she was shot. Melanie remembered that Carly pulled the trigger and freaked out. Daniel came running in to calm Melanie down and urged her to relax. He went outside and told Carly Melanie would be okay. He added that Mel wanted to see her. Carly returned to Melanie's room. Mel asked why the doc shot her. Carly tried to explain that Vivian was trying to hurt the teen. "You saw that gun and you jumped right in front of her. You saved her life," Dr. M added. Carly told Melanie that Viv was trying to get back at Carly by going after Mel. A confused Melanie asked why. "I'm your mother," Carly revealed.

Daniel called Victor to report that Melanie was awake. He came into the house to find Vivian and Philip arguing and told Phil the news. Philip turned to leave for the hospital. Vivian asked him to send Melanie her love. "I will never forgive you for what you have done and I sure as hell won't give Melanie your love — it's toxic," he snarled. After Philip left, Victor warned Vivian not to disobey him one more time or else she was going to spend her golden years in an orange jumpsuit.... Philip arrived at the hospital, but Daniel stalled him before he could go into Melanie's room.

Tuesday

Rafe went to Sami's townhouse and EJ opened the door. "What are you doing here?" Rafe asked. Sami came home and was surprised to see them. She wondered if they had found Sydney's body, but Rafe told her no. EJ asked if she had told Johnny and Allie about Sydney. She said no, so he said he wanted to be there when she did. He then allied himself with Sami by saying, "You and I have been through some hideous times together. But we are in this together. We are her parents. She is our daughter." Rafe wanted to find whoever took Sydney, and his lack of emotion upset Sami and led to a faceoff between EJ and Rafe. Rafe asked to speak to Sami alone, but she told him to go. He headed to the office. EJ stayed behind and pointed out that Rafe had no connection to Sydney, which is probably why he was behaving the way he was. He also accused Rafe of trying to impress his FBI superiors by solving the case. Sami didn't want to believe that. She thanked EJ for being there for her. He responded in kind. He brought up Rafe again, but she said she wasn't comfortable discussing Hernandez with him anymore. EJ apologized and took off.

At the cottage, Anna held Sydney and worried that with EJ's plans to move away from Salem, the baby would never live happily ever after. EJ arrived and was pleased all the paperwork was in order. "Me, Johnny, Sydney... We can simply disappear. Then we'll see how Samantha feels, eh? When she's lost both her children and her boyfriend."

At the station, Rafe made some calls about Sydney's case. A lab tech brought Sydney's clothes in. Rafe thought about the baby and broke down in tears, banging his hand on the desk. Sami came in and was moved by how upset he was.

Bo wanted the Kiriakis manse searched for the telltale comb. Vivian arrived at the station, offering to "assist" in the investigation. She told Bo that she intended to testify at Carly's bail hearing because the doc was a danger. Bo revealed that Carly's hearing already took place. Viv was annoyed.

Daniel delayed Philip from entering Melanie's hospital room. Inside, Carly revealed to Mel that she was her mother. "Yeah, right," Melanie laughed, then told Carly to stop lying to her. "Get out of here!" she yelled. Philip and Daniel rushed in to find a sobbing Mel. Phil kicked Carly out of the room and excoriated Daniel for preventing him from entering earlier. Philip was elated that his bride was awake. The duo discussed Carly. Philip wasn't so sure that Carly was lying when she said she was Mel's mom.... Daniel called Bo to say Melanie was conscious — and Carly was there. After, Daniel met up with Chloe. He asked about the therapy session, but she deflected. She told him she wished he was as committed to her as he was to Carly. He was taken aback and explained that Carly shot Melanie by accident and he understood why she needed to see her daughter. Chloe said she didn't want Carly ruining Daniel's life like she did Bo's. Daniel promised her everything would be okay.

Carly could tell Bo was angry with her. "You lied to me. You left the police station. Violated the terms of your release," he pointed out. She said she had to visit Melanie, but the mother/daughter connection slipped out during the conversation. Philip called Carly and said Melanie wanted to see her.

Vivian got a "visit" from Lawrence. He warned her not to underestimate Carly and insisted she finish what she started.

Mia came home and found Chad in Maggie's kitchen. He asked how she was doing in the wake of Melanie's shooting. She said she couldn't bear to lose anyone else. He took her in his arms and comforted her. Gabi arrived and expressed her condolences. "When Chad told me what happened, I said, ‘You have to make sure she's okay,' " Gabi explained. Mia was disappointed that it wasn't Chad's idea to come over. When Chad took a phone call from his dad, a jealous Mia warned Gabi about her ex. Gabi saw right through it and called Mia on it. Mia claimed she was just looking out for her new pal.

Wednesday

Philip tenderly watched over his wife, who had a nightmare of Carly shooting her. Carly and Bo arrived and went into Melanie's room. Bo excused himself, but Philip refused to leave Carly alone with his wife. Carly spoke to her daughter at her bedside. "Melanie, it's me, your mother," she said. "Don't ever call yourself that again," Melanie replied. The teen then demanded answers. "I want to know who I am," she said. Melanie asked Philip to leave so Carly could be more candid. "I just want to get this over with, then I'll never have to look at her again," the newlywed noted. Once alone, Carly revealed that she didn't know Trent was such a monster and apologized for putting Melanie in his care. She explained that she was in an abusive marriage with Lawrence and had a one-night stand that resulted in a pregnancy. Melanie asked how Carly was so sure they were related. Carly explained they shared a rare blood type. She then recounted with what happened with Lawrence after Melanie's birth, adding that Mel had a telltale birthmark near her left ear. "Oh, my God," Melanie cried. Carly continued, saying Lawrence threatened to kill Melanie so she had to kill him. "So a man is dead because of me?" Mel cried. "I'm a curse on everyone's life." Melanie referenced Trent again, but Carly revealed he wasn't Mel's bio dad. "Who is?" Melanie asked.

Stefano was devastated to learn about Sydney's "death". Kate came in to give a Melanie health report and found him with his head in his hands. "My precious little Sydney is dead," he reported somberly, then broke down. Kate comforted him as he blamed himself for the turn of events.

Hope manned the desk at the police station and took a phone call about Sydney. She tracked Bo to the hospital and told him about the baby's demise. Hope said she couldn't help but think of their ordeal with Ciara. He took her in his arms. Hope asked him to have dinner with her and Ciara, but he said he had to stay at the hospital and motioned to Melanie's room. Hope realized he was waiting for Carly. She chastised him for helping Carly break the law by visiting Melanie. "You could lose your job... You could go to jail... You don't even care, do you? You'd sacrifice everything for her," Hope sighed. "I hope to hell she's worth it." Hope stormed off. Philip came outside and reprimanded Bo for not telling him about the Melanie/Carly connection sooner. Bo argued that it wasn't his secret to tell. Bo then asked for Philip's statement about the shooting. "I wasn't there when it happened and neither were you," Philip stressed. "And you're not gonna use me to help the woman you're sleeping with get off scot-free, okay?"

Hope went to the Kiriakis mansion to talk to Victor about Melanie. Vic suggested she focus more on her marriage and Carly. Hope pointed out that she was in the basement with Carly and Vivian and can back up Carly's account of what happened. Vic countered that it would only keep Carly out of jail and in Bo's bed. If Hope stopped hounding Vivian,Vic noted, Carly would get what she deserved and would be out of their lives forever. A disgusted Hope told him she doesn't work that way. She returned to the hospital in time to hear Philip ask Bo why he was so blind when it came to Carly. "Because he's in love with her, Philip, that's why," Hope announced.

In his office, Rafe wept over Sydney's clothes found in the harbor. Sami came in and was moved to find him in tears. She realized that he was grieving, too, and she was sorry for how she reacted earlier. They hugged, then headed home. Rafe put Sami to bed. She asked him to stay.

Anna came down on EJ for the ruse he was pulling about Sydney. He told her to get the baby's things together so he could leave Salem with Syd and Johnny. After EJ left, Anna worried that his plan would backfire.... EJ went home to the DiMera mansion and realized that his father had heard about Sydney's death. Stefano was upset that he heard about it from an outsider. "Because you are an outsider," EJ retorted. "You might want to steel yourself, old man... I'm taking a little trip. And I'm taking Johnny." EJ excused himself. Stefano told Kate that he could tell that there was something else going on with his son. "He's nervous and edgy," the Phoenix explained. "Something is amiss." ... Victor called Stefano and asked if he could come over to talk.

EJ let himself into Sami's townhouse and called out to her. When there was no response, he went to her bedroom and spied her in bed with Rafe.

Thursday

At the DiMera manse, Victor and Stefano discussed business. Vic noted that his rival seemed distracted. Stefano revealed that Sydney died. Victor was horrified. "Death to whoever did this," Vic declared. "Death," Stefano agreed.

EJ walked into Sami's room and spied Sami and Rafe in bed together. Sami woke up and spied him there. She asked what he was doing there. Rafe woke up and asked what was up. "EJ, he's here," Sami replied. A stunned Elvis went to the living room, spied a vase and smashed it. He also stamped his feet. Sami came in and he claimed that he knocked the vase over. She asked what he was doing there. He said he was picking up Johnny's things and tried the doorbell but she didn't answer. Rafe came in and asked what was going on. Sami went to collect her son's things. "What makes you think you can just walk into our house?" Rafe asked. "I'm Johnny's father," EJ spat, then accused Rafe of taking advantage of Sami's vulnerability. Rafe wondered why EJ was more concerned with Sami and Rafe's relationship than what happened to Sydney. EJ didn't want to argue with him. Sami returned with Johnny's bag. EJ again apologized for the vase and left. "Something's off with that guy," Rafe remarked. "He's upset that we're back together," Sami replied. She then suggested they get everyone together to have a memorial for Sydney and include EJ. Will came home. Sami needed to talk to him alone, so Rafe took off to tell EJ about the memorial. He arrived chez DiMera and talked to Stefano about EJ. The Phoenix asked if EJ seemed like he was grieving. "Actually, no," Rafe admitted. Stefano didn't want to discuss it further and showed Hernandez the door.

An agitated EJ returned to the cottage and told Anna that he and the kids were staying put. She asked what happened. "Rafe happened," he lamented. Anna pointed out to EJ that Sami will always love a hero and if he wanted Rafe out of her life, he needed to produce a new hero. "Your daddy's been doing this all wrong," EJ told his daughter. "It's all perfectly clear now."

Daniel and Chloe had dessert at the Brady Pub and she noted that he seemed distracted. He admitted he was thinking about Melanie and Carly. Chloe got annoyed because she felt Carly was a bad woman for giving up her baby. Daniel pointed out that Chloe was transferring the feelings about her hysterical pregnancy. He offered to go to therapy with her, but she said no way. His cell phone rang; she told him to go so she could avoid talking about the therapy appointment.

Melanie asked Carly if her father was Bo, but Carly said it wasn't. Mel kicked her out. Outside of the room, Hope pressed Bo to admit he was in love with Carly. He did and Carly overheard. Philip went back to his wife's room. Hope wiped tears from her eyes. Carly asked to speak to Bo privately. They stepped aside. Carly told Bo that she had to tell Melanie's father the truth before she could tell Mel. Bo had a guard posted at Melanie's door. He looked at Hope, but walked off without saying anything. She followed him to the station. There, he put an APB out on Gus. She revealed that she was back on the force and had some information that could help him save Carly. He was surprised she'd be willing, then told her she was a "damn good cop".

Melanie cried to Philip that she didn't know who she was. He assured her he loved her. Maggie came in and Melanie broke down. Mel asked Philip to get her food at the Pub. When Phil was gone, Melanie cried to Maggie that she wanted to know who her father was. She then disclosed that she believed Vivian may have been trying to kill her, after all, and then started weeping anew. She also admitted she didn't think her marriage would work. Maggie urged her to think good thoughts and rest. Maggie left the room and had a dizzy spell. The cop posted at Melanie's door took her to get water.

Vivian summoned Gus to the pier. She asked him to get her things together while she finished the job on Melanie.... Vivian returned to the K manse and grabbed her gloves. Victor entered and asked if she was going somewhere. For a walk, she told him. He said she was welcome to stay at his house as long as she wanted and assured her Philip would come around. She headed to the hospital, entered Melanie's room and grabbed a pillow.

Philip ran into Chloe at the Pub. He could tell she was upset and asked what was up. She revealed she thought she was pregnant but wasn't and was unable to share her true feelings with Daniel. They sat down. Philip urged her to be honest with Doc Jonas.

Daniel met Carly on the pier. She danced around things before finally dropping the bomb that he was Melanie's father. "No," he replied.

Friday

Bo told Hope the cops picked up Gus and were bringing him in. Hope informed Gus she saw everything he did in the basement. Bo warned Gus that if he didn't give them Vivian, he'd be going to prison. Gus revealed the last time he saw Vivian she was headed home to get gloves. Then, he demanded a lawyer. Bo and Hope realized something was up. Bo phoned the guard outside Melanie's room and asked if he'd left his station. He had for a minute to help Maggie. Bo and Hope raced off.

Rafe was outside the DiMera mansion on the phone with EJ. He invited him to a family gathering. Sami wanted them there when she told the twins Sydney wasn't coming home. EJ wanted to do it at the pier. EJ hung up and told Anna they had work to do. Kate discovered Rafe outside. Stefano came up to him. Rafe said he couldn't help but wonder why EJ wasn't upset about Sydney and left. "EJ's up to something," Stefano told Kate. EJ waited for Anna to finish up a project, noting it was what he needed to break up Sami and Rafe. EJ arrived at the mansion to pick up Johnny. While Kate fetched him, Stefano mentioned the gathering and tried to warn EJ about Rafe. EJ rebuffed him. Kate returned with Johnny, and father and son left. Stefano spat that if Rafe took EJ down, it would serve him right.

Will refused to give up hope Sydney was alive. Sami said Bo, Rafe and the FBI all told her it was the end of the line. She had to explain things to Johnny and Allie. Rafe arrived. He admitted he was annoyed about EJ's location choice for the gathering. Later, EJ and Johnny joined Rafe, Sami, Will and Allie on the pier. EJ asked Will and Rafe to take the kids to the car. He needed to talk to Sami. Alone, EJ produced a ransom note. "I think Sydney's alive," he whispered.

Victor asked Philip how Melanie was. Philip went off about everything she'd been through — getting married, getting shot, learning Carly was her mother ... Victor assured her Bo wasn't her daddy. Philip yelled at Victor for keeping secrets from them and accused Victor of plotting with Vivian for months. Victor told Philip the person who should be his target was Carly.

Daniel was in denial about Carly's bombshell that he is Melanie's father. They discussed the night they hooked up years ago and how, afterward, Carly introduced Daniel to Rebecca. By the time Carly found out she was pregnant, they were planning their wedding and she couldn't ruin it. As years passed, Lawrence was watching. Telling Daniel the truth would have meant signing his death warrant. Daniel asked why Carly hadn't fessed up when she came to Salem. Carly explained she feared Vivian might have killed him and Melanie. "Do you hate me or can you forgive me?" asked Carly. Daniel didn't answer, but vowed to protect Melanie.

Vivian lowered a pillow over Melanie's face, but then stopped. Melanie stirred and encouraged Vivian to kill her. She understood Vivian had to do it, because of Lawrence. Vivian admitted Lawrence was her life. Melanie went on about her awful life with Trent and how she payed off his gambling debts. Then, she rambled on about marrying Philip and Carly revealing she was her mother, but not knowing who her father is. "If I have to die, then today is a good day to do it," she said. Vivian couldn't do it and hugged Melanie. A cop and Philip burst into the room, followed by Bo and Hope. Bo asked if Vivian hurt Melanie. Melanie said she'd had a dream and wanted to go back to sleep. Everyone left. Carly called Bo to meet her. Bo told Hope he had to tell Carly what happened.

Later, outside the Kiriakis mansion, Lawrence appeared to Vivian, scolding her for not offing Melanie. Vivian retorted that Melanie was an innocent girl and said goodbye to him. Victor returned home and Vivian announced she'd decided against killing Melanie, even thought it would have been a great way to make Carly suffer. Vivian took solace in the fact Carly would be going to prison knowing her daughter hated her.

Bo met Carly outside the pub. She told him she'd talked to Daniel, who was angry. All she'd wanted was to protect him and Melanie, and now she thought she'd lost them forever. Meanwhile, Daniel entered a sleeping Melanie's hospital room.
