DAYS Week of February 23, 2009
Monday
Philip overheard Nicole and Brady having a leading discussion outside of the manse. Brady took off, but not before promising that she'd be okay since she had gotten away with everything so far. Philip rang the doorbell and asked Nicole what she and Brady were hiding. He wondered if they were friends with benefits. She insisted they were just pals and that EJ knew about it. Philip noted that they were still hiding something from her fiancé. She insisted she wasn't sleeping with Brady. She lied that she made Brady promise not to tell EJ what she did to Brady and Chloe, but Philip didn't buy it. He said it had to be something "life-altering" and threatened to tell EJ that Nicole was lying about something. Philip picked up the phone to call EJ, but Nicole wrested it from his hands. She asked what he wanted. He told her that EJ had become a problem for Titan of late. "There's a small situation and you, Nicole, are gonna help make it go away," Phil told her. She said she didn't get involved in EJ's business dealings and wouldn't betray him. "It already seems that you have," Philip noted. He then told her about the business arrangement between Melanie and EJ and ordered Nicole to get EJ to back off — or else.
Melanie opened the door to Stephanie, who slapped her and called her a bitch. Melanie warned Steph that she could tear her "limb from limb." Steph noted that Philip wasn't there and smirked to Melanie that Phil had treated her like a tramp. Melanie grabbed Steph just as EJ arrived and told Mel to unhand her. Steph left. EJ had contracts for Mel to sign, but she said it wasn't a good time for her. He warned her not to toy with him and used equal parts bullying and charm to get her to sign them and hand over the second part of the fuels project formula. She admitted she was a little scared of Philip. EJ promised to protect her if she cooperated. She asked for the rest of her money. He handed her a wad of cash.
Maggie hurried into the hospital and asked Daniel if he had seen Lucas. She revealed that she told him about Daniel and Chloe. Daniel was annoyed, but Maggie said they could discuss it later because they needed to find Lucas ASAP. Daniel called Chloe, but she didn't pick up. Daniel decided to go check it out his apartment. Maggie pointed out that if Daniel and Chloe had only been honest, this never would have happened.
At Daniel's apartment, a drunken Lucas yelled to the doc, who he thought was inside. Chloe, who was at Daniel's, approached the door. The hallway exploded and Chloe was momentarily injured. She hurried out to find Lucas passed out on the floor. Chloe administered CPR and urged Lucas to live. She got her cell and called 911, then fell to her knees and tearily begged God to save Lucas. She swore she'd give up Daniel if God would bring Lucas back to life. Suddenly, an awake, but injured, Lucas was standing in the doorway and calling her name. Chloe was thrilled and brought Lucas to the couch but he couldn't make it and fell to the floor. Lucas apologized for being drunk, blaming himself. Daniel arrived and asked what the hell happened. Chloe said there was an explosion and asked Daniel to check out Lucas. The paramedics arrived and took Lucas away. Daniel assured Chloe things would be fine. Chloe blamed herself for Lucas drinking again. Daniel insisted she didn't drive Lucas to drink, then declared his love for her. He kissed her, and left a troubled Chloe behind. She refused to hide and followed him out.
At the hospital, Daniel told Maggie what happened with Lucas and the explosion. Chloe strode in and refused to leave until she knew Lucas was okay. Lucas asked a nurse to get Maggie. Daniel told Chloe that Lucas seemed fine. "It's as close to a miracle as I've ever seen," he explained.
Brady came upon Stephanie crying on a bench in the park. He sat down with her and guessed it was about Philip. She told him what had transpired at Melanie's. "He's a total jerk," Brady declared. Brady headed to Melanie's and found EJ there. He asked what EJ was doing there. The men exchanged words. EJ left. Brady asked Melanie what was going on.... EJ returned to the manse. Nicole poked around about Melanie. EJ boasted that he bested the Kiriakis clan. A panicky Nicole told him it wasn't a good idea and urged him to back off of the project. She claimed it was because she was worried about Sydney and what the Ks would do to her if EJ caused trouble.
At the Brady Pub, a morose Steph called Chelsea and left a message. Melanie came in and assured Steph that nothing went on between her and Philip. Steph wasn't receptive to Mel's clarification, though it appeared she was trying to do the right thing. Philip came home and was on the phone, leaving a message for Steph. Turned out, Steph was inside the house, waiting to talk to him about Melanie. "I don't love her and I definitely do not choose her over you," he said. Steph told him they were through. Philip told her he loved her. "I know. That's what makes this all so damn sad," she huffed, then left.
Tuesday
Nicole insisted to EJ that she wasn't trying to get into his business; she was trying to protect their family. She worried about him crossing the Kiriakises, but he said he wasn't scared of them. He wondered why she was so adamant about him backing off the fuels project. She fibbed that it was nothing specific. He knew she was lying and called her on it. She said that she ran into Brady and he told her about the Titan/DiMera feud over Melanie's fuel project. EJ lost his temper over Brady stirring up trouble and talking to Nicole about EJ's business affairs. Nicole got upset and said that Brady was just warning her, not threatening her. EJ refused to discuss business with her and went to leave the room. Nicole collapsed on the floor in frustration. EJ tried to appeal to her, but she lost it, saying Victor was a credible threat, as was Philip. EJ was over talking about it. "I'm not the guy you blackmail with tears," he told her and ordered her to stay out of it. Nicole told him that if he didn't remove himself from the project, she wouldn't marry him. EJ said the wedding would go on as planned and Nicole would never threaten him or keep Sydney from him again. "We are going to raise this child together. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?" he yelled. Sydney began to cry. Nicole tended to her. EJ calmed down a bit and asked her exactly what Brady said to rattle her. "What aren't you telling me?" he asked. "Nothing," she replied. EJ's cell phone rang. It was the FBI, who told him that Sami was coming home. EJ reported the news to Nicole, then told her that she had to cut Brady out of her life.
Alone in the dark at the Kiriakis manse, Philip took a drink. Brady came in, turned on the light and confronted his uncle about costing the family billions of dollars. The guys traded barbs. Brady warned Philip about EJ. Philip suggested Brady concentrate more on what was going on between him and Nicole.
Bo and Ciara had a happy reunion in the park. Things were still tense between Bo and Hope. Ciara asked Bo when she could come home, which was like a knife in Hope's heart. Hope assured Ciara she could see Bo anytime. Hope went to leave, but Bo asked her to stay behind to talk. She didn't think it was a good idea. Bo sent Ciara to the playground so he could talk to Hope. "You're tearing our family apart," he said. She replied that it took two to do that. He noted that he had apologized and wondered when they would get past it. She said she didn't think they ever could. "I love you and I need you and I'm not going to lose you. I will do whatever it takes to make this right," he told her. She asked for space. Ciara ran up and asked them to stop fighting. Hope took her home.
At the convent, Sami noted that Rafe seemed distracted. He reported that the man who was feeding info about Sami to the mayor's killer was no longer a threat, which meant they were safe and could go home. She wasn't too enthused, but said she was looking forward to seeing her kids. She noted that he didn't seem too excited to go, either. He admitted her would miss her and her feistiness. They joked about how she now had a football team to root for, thanks to him. He went to leave, but Sami stopped him. Rafe said he didn't like good-byes then said farwell to Grace. Sami asked If she would ever see him again. He said probably not, then ran out of the room to get a gift he had bought her. She hugged him. "See ya," he said.
Chloe watched over Lucas at the hospital. Daniel approached her and assured her that Lucas would be fine. She was determined to honor the promise she made to God, which was to give up Daniel. Maggie was thrilled to hear that Lucas would be okay and admitted to Chloe that she told Lucas the truth. Kate came running in and asked Daniel what had happened with Lucas. He told her that Lucas was at his apartment and there was a gas explosion. "What the hell was he doing at your apartment?" Kate queried. Chloe went into Lucas's room. She sat by his bed, took his hand and began to cry. She apologized for hurting him. Lucas stirred and asked her why he was in the hospital. After, Kate talked to Maggie. Maggie was sad to report that Lucas had fallen off the wagon. "Oh, God!" Kate cried. Kate asked why; Maggie suggested she speak to Daniel. Daniel came over. Maggie excused herself. Kate asked again why Lucas was at Daniel's apartment. Daniel noted that people did strange things when they were drunk.
In Lucas's room, it became clear that he didn't remember anything beyond drinking at the Brady Pub. He asked why he went to Daniel's place. Before Chloe could tell him, a nurse came in and asked her to step out so she could run some tests. In the reception area, Chloe told Maggie that Lucas had some form of amnesia. Maggie urged Chloe to tell him the truth anyway. Chloe nodded that she would do the right thing and went back into Lucas's room. She apologized for breaking off their engagement and said she made a huge mistake. She asked if he could forgive her and take her back. He suspected she was doing it out of pity. She said she wasn't. He was too tired to think about it. She told him she loved him and always would. She opened the door to leave and ran into Kate, who asked what Chloe was doing there. Chloe said she had to see Lucas. Daniel pulled Chloe out of the room and suggested they tell everyone about their relationship ASAP. She told him they didn't have a relationship anymore. "It's over," she announced.
Wednesday
Kate checked in on Lucas at the hospital. She asked if he was in pain, but he said he deserved to be after what he did. Kate told him it wasn't so, but Lucas said he was the one who took the first drink. "I was willing to throw my whole life away, for Chloe," he sighed. Kate shared the good news that she was in remission. Lucas was thrilled.
At the hospital, Chloe told Daniel that things between them were over and he had to accept it. "It's final," she insisted. He refused to let her go. She said it was a too-public place to have a conversation about their love life. She agreed to meet him in the park in an hour but he wanted to go immediately, explaining that he didn't want to let her out of his sight. Once there, Chloe explained what happened in the hallway after the explosion and tried to make Daniel understand that she made a pact with God to save his life. Daniel told her it was insane. It didn't matter; she was determined to keep her solemn promise. Daniel said he would tell Lucas about them, but she implored him to keep mum. "What we had is over and you have to accept that," she reiterated.
Nicole and EJ continued their discussion about Brady. Nicole ultimately agreed not to see him anymore. EJ softened and told her he loved her and promised to protect her, despite seeming like a complete tyrant. They kissed. Sydney began to fuss; EJ went to get her a bottle. A nervous Nicole called Philip to report she was unsuccessful in her attempt to change EJ's mind. Philip advised her to try, try again. She said she couldn't. He told her he was a man of his word and didn't make threats he couldn't follow through on. He hung up the phone, then called EJ. EJ, who was now at the pier, picked up. EJ told Philip they had nothing to talk about but Philip told him they did and it was about something very personal. "What I have to tell you has to do with your old buddy, Brady," Philip began. Henderson interrupted at that moment to tell Philip that there was a terrible accident with Lucas and Kate had been trying to reach him. Philip ran out, leaving EJ hanging on the phone. Kate asked why Lucas had been at Daniel's apartment. He didn't remember, he only remembered drinking to get over Chloe, but it didn't work because he still loved her. "She's just my world, you know?" Kate told him there were other women, but he insisted that Chloe was the one for him.
At the hospital, Philip ran into Stephanie, who was there to take Kayla home from the hospital. He spoke from his heart and said he was sorry for lying to her and for the way he behaved with Melanie. "When everything fell apart, I realized that you were worth everything. I just want another chance," he told her. She said she had waited a long time to hear that from him and that she still loved him, but what she had for him died after what he did to her. She told him an apology wasn't enough and left. Philip went into Lucas's room just as Kate was talking about being in remission. He was thrilled. "It's a lot better than hearing that my brother got drunk and blew himself up," he noted. Lucas announced that he was going back to AA. Kate took off to run errands. Lucas suggested she find Daniel to thank him for all he did. Once alone, Philip asked Lucas what happened. Lucas told him he couldn't remember. The guys talked about the importance of finding real love.
Nicole hurried to the door of the manse. "Things couldn't possibly get any worse," Nicole said aloud, then opened the door to... Sami! Nicole asked what she was doing there. "Sami's back. She's here to stay," Sami smiled, then explained that she was there to take her baby. Nicole got very nervous, until Sami reminded her that Johnny was there. Nic told Sami that the boy was out with Caroline and would be back in an hour. Nicole asked if anything interesting had happened while Sami was gone. Sami said no, nothing happened. Sami asked Nicole about her "miracle baby." She then looked at Nicole's figure and noted that she didn't even look like she was ever pregnant. Nicole pointed out that she had a high metabolism — and that it appeared Sami had put on some weight. Nicole admitted she would miss Johnny, but pointedly remarked that a child belonged with its mother, making Sami uncomfortable. Nicole tried to make Sami feel badly about herself; Sami didn't bite. Sami then added that EJ would never marry Nicole. Nic smiled that they had already set a date. Just then, EJ walked in. Things got tense; Nicole and Sami argued. EJ told them he would like to end the bickering and try to get along. Over the monitor, Sydney began to cry. "That's your baby?" Sami asked. EJ went to get her and her bottle. The women resumed their bickering. Sami warned Nicole that the DiMeras were controlling and that she should watch her back. EJ returned cradling his daughter and asked if Sami would like to hold her. "No!" Nicole exclaimed.
Thursday
Daniel and Chloe shared a farewell kiss in the park; Kate spied their lip lock. She hurried off to the hospital and told Lucas she had something to tell him. Lucas stopped her, saying he had made a decision about his future and wanted to talk to her about it first. He decided to fight for his relationship and give Chloe another chance. "No. Absolutely not," said Kate, then elaborated that she was totally against it. Kate tried to tell him the truth, but Lucas interrupted, saying that Kate always interfered in his relationships and wouldn't with Chloe. "She's the most important person I the world to me and Allie!" Lucas exclaimed. His monitors started beeping, so the nurse asked Kate to wait outside. Lucas's blood pressure had spiked, but it was under control. The doctor advised Kate not to agitate Lucas because his condition was still serious. Kate went back inside and Lucas asked why she had turned on a dime about Chloe. A calm Kate simply said she would support his choices and decisions and she had learned her lessons about meddling.
Philip came upon Chloe and Daniel in the park and asked if he was interrupting something. Chloe said no, adding that they were talking about Lucas and the progress he had made. Philip thanked Dr. J for everything he did for Kate. An uncomfortable Daniel took off. Philip talked to Chloe about Lucas. He told Chloe that Lucas was determined to make things work with her and advised her not to screw it up this time. She smiled that she wouldn't.
Rafe visited Grace in the convent and played peekaboo with her to get her to smile. Sister Theresa came in and noted that Rafe was very good with the baby. Rafe asked the nun not to tell Sami that he had been there. Sister T told Rafe that she thought Rafe and Sami were a good match. He smiled at a photo of Sami with the baby.
At the DiMera mansion, Nicole freaked out when EJ asked Sami is she wanted to hold Sydney. Nicole said she was being protective, then acquiesced. Sami briefly held her, then got teary. Nicole took her back to feed her upstairs. EJ asked Sami what was wrong. She claimed she was emotional at the thought of seeing Johnny and Allie again. She also noted that she was tortured by the thought of Nicole with Johnny. "She's a complete fraud," Sami declared. Alone with Sydney, Nicole wondered why Sami was so affected and worried she felt a connection to the baby. EJ told Sami not to talk about Nicole that way and added that he loved Nic. Johnny came running in and was thrilled to see Sami. He gave her a big hug. He was holding the Christmas gift she got him; EJ said it was his favorite toy. Seeing how happy her son was, Sami thanked EJ for taking such good care of Johnny. Nicole came back and EJ got a phone call. The women bickered again. Sydney was crying, so EJ went to check on her. Sami tried to give Nicole parenting advice, but Nicole got nutty and defensive. EJ came in and broke up the argument. He asked Nicole to put Sydney down because he wasn't having any luck. Once Nicole left, EJ chastised Sami for provoking Nicole. Johnny came back in and EJ took him to get ready to leave. Sami heard Sydney cry and called Sister Theresa from her cell phone to check in on Grace. Nicole overheard the conversation. EJ came back in and told Sami that Lucas was in the hospital. Sami was immediately concerned and headed to see him. Nicole was upset with EJ for the way he spoke to Sami; she worried that he was still in love with her. That set EJ off and he yelled at her. She told him that if she left him, she would take Sydney with her.
Philip returned home, where Victor confronted him about where he had been. Phil told his father that he was visiting Lucas. Vic wanted to talk about the fuels project. "My brother almost died," Philip noted to his angry dad. He then claimed that everything was fine with Melanie. Victor asked why she had met with EJ, then. An argument ensued, where Victor questioned his son's dedication to the project. Phil told his dad that he had lost a woman he was falling in love with because of the fuels project. Victor asked who it was. "Stephanie Johnson," Phil told him. Victor asked why things had gone wrong, but Philip didn't want to talk about it and was sarcastic with his father. "No need for your phony concern," Phil snarked. Victor said he was there for his son if he needed him and walked pit. Philip called Steph and left her a message that they needed to talk.
Chloe returned to the hospital to see Lucas. Daniel tracked her down and told her he loved her and would always love her. After, the teary Doc headed to the chapel to pray.
Sami entered Lucas's room; he was surprised to see her. He asked where her baby was.
Friday
Sami chatted with Lucas in his hospital room. He was surprised she was back and asked about her baby. She tried to deflect and asked what happened to him. Lucas told her about the gas explosion and his miraculous recovery. Sami thought Lucas was again living in the apartment they used to share, but Lucas explained that Daniel lived there now and Lucas couldn't remember why he went there. Lucas added that he was drunk. "That's so depressing," Sami sighed and asked what Chloe did to him to make him drink. Lucas didn't want to talk about it and asked again about Sami's baby. She told him she had a girl, and then lied that the baby was stillborn. Lucas apologized; Sami said she didn't want to talk about it. The conversation turned to Allie. Lucas told Sami that their little girl was excited to see her. Sami then implored Lucas to keep the fact that she was ever pregnant a secret. He said he would, but warned her that secrets have a way of coming out. They bickered; Sami blamed Chloe for what happened to Lucas, but Lucas said it was his fault — and Sami's, who turned him on to booze in the first place. Another argument ensued. Will walked in during it. They were happy to see their MIA son.
Philip left Stephanie a message, asking her to call him back to talk about their relationship. Victor overheard the message. "Begging, Philip? Hardly attractive, especially in a man," he pointed out. Vic advised to throw Steph "out on her ass" if she didn't accept Philip for who he is. Philip left and ran into Steph at the Brady Pub. She asked about the message he left. He said it was normal for couples to have problems and work them out. She cracked that he had been reading a women's magazine. He wondered if she wanted to be the one to change him. He kissed her, then told her to give him a call when she figured things out.
Kate ran into Chloe outside of Lucas's hospital room. Kate said she wanted to talk about Chloe and Daniel. Kate thanked Chloe for saving her life. "I'm never going to forget what you and Daniel did," she said pointedly. She then acted happy that Lucas and Chloe were working things out, but wondered why Chloe had suddenly changed her mind. Chloe explained that any doubt she had were gone. Kate said she was glad, then asked why Chloe was even at Daniel's apartment when the explosion happened. Chloe lied that she just happened to be walking by the building and saw Lucas stumble in and she followed him. Kate sighed that she just wished she knew why Lucas was going to see Daniel. Chloe didn't know, but assured Kate that she loved Lucas and would never let him get away.
Kate went to the Brady Pub to have a martini. Victor joined her there and noted that Kate didn't seem happy for someone who learned she was in remission. A morose Kate admitted that she was wrong abut Chloe and had seen her true colors. Kate was determined to show Lucas who Chloe really was without him thinking she was meddling.
B
Hope went to the station to drop off a report that she didn't have a chance to finish. She talked to Bo in his office. He said she was there because she missed him. Hope noted that she did miss him, but that's not why she was there. "So I made a fool of myself; nothing new there," Bo sighed, adding that she had turned the paperwork in and could leave. Hope opened the door, then closed it and admitted that she was there because she wanted to see Bo. "This is what you wanted," Bo pointed out of their estrangement, then told her to get out of his sight. "You've never spoken to me like that before," Hope said softly. Bo reiterated that he asked her to leave, then quickly apologized. She said she was sorry for acting selfishly. They had an honest talk about what had happened and how they felt. "Hold me, please," Hope said. He took her in his arms. She told him she wanted to come home. Bo was confused and asked her what changed. She said she finally "saw the light" and apologized for what she put him through. She made him promise to tell him about his visions going forward. He agreed to do that. They exchanged I love yous; she went to collect her things and bring them home. After Hope left, Bo had a vision of her in bed with someone.
A furious EJ told Nicole that he didn't like threats and if she wanted to leave, there was the door. Nicole began to cry and admitted that she was insecure and had trouble fighting it. EJ insisted he loved her and pointed out that he had given Nicole everything she asked for. Nicole still had issues with Sami — and the fact that EJ had taken on the Kiriakis clan. EJ left the room, then returned with the fuels project formula. He ripped it up to prove that he loved her and took her in his arms. After, Nicole met Philip in the park and handed him the torn up formula. "Nice work," Philip told her.
