DAYS Week of February 25, 2008

Monday

Hospitalized Bo awoke to find Roman at his bedside. Bo filled Roman in on the details of the plane crash, his eyes filling with tears as he recalled Grandpa Shawn's last moments. In another hospital room, a bandaged Kayla cozied up to a sore Steve. After some billing and cooing, he sent Kayla back to her own room. Once alone, he opened a card with a scrawled note that read, "That bitch will never have your baby."

At the Theta house, Stephanie sat beside Chelsea as the sorority sisters took Chelsea to task over going to the police. "You have to trust us, we're your sisters," said Cordy. Morgan pulled Chelsea into an embrace and said they wanted to "go back to being friends and sisters." Talk turned to the future and the girls presented a list of possible internships.

In Bo's room, the patient grinned when Shawn, Belle and Claire came to visit, but his smile faltered when Caroline entered the room. "I wish Pop were here," cried Bo. Belle took Claire to the vending machine, leaving Bo with Shawn, Caroline and Roman. "Pop died because of me," said Bo, before telling Caroline about the onboard oxygen crisis. He recounted how Grandpa Shawn refused to take oxygen so that there would be enough for everyone else. "Grandpa died so that this family could live," observed Shawn. Bo continued to blame himself, but Caroline wouldn't hear of it. Shawn urged his father to accept that Grandpa Shawn did what any father would do. Bo argued that he's sick, so what if Grandpa Shawn died for nothing. "He did not do it for nothing," announced Lexie, who was standing in the doorway, adding, "You are not dying on my watch." Before the family filed out, Caroline stated that she was proud of her husband, who died like a hero.

A banged-up Steve and Kayla returned home and sat on the sofa. She asked what Steve was going to say to her the night before, but he claimed not to remember. He got her to lie down on the sofa and rest while he went out for food. Steve ended up in an alley where he found Ava and grabbed her by the throat. Her henchman pulled Steve off and knocked him to the ground. Steve asked her what she wanted and she hissed that he never said good-bye, calling him Patch. After roughing him up, Ava railed that Patch had said he wanted her to have his baby. "So you had your people screw with the plane, huh?" he charged. "They got carried away.... It happens," she shrugged, noting that he didn't die. "What's the matter with you? Are you really that crazy?" Steve asked. Based on her loony smile, the answer would appear to be yes. "Keep away from my family," Steve warned before taking off.

A crushed Max arrived at the Theta house and shared with Stephanie that he hadn't had a chance to say good-bye to his father. He regretted that his final words were: "I'm busy. I got to go to work." 'Morgan watched from afar as Stephanie and Max hugged. Morgan walked up and gave Max a big hug, too. When Stephanie had left, Morgan observed to Max that he clearly loves Stephanie; Morgan said that she was ready to move on as a friend. They embraced.

Caroline returned to Bo's room and they both wept and laughed as they shared stories about Grandpa Shawn.... Afterward, Bo asked Lexie to make sure that she reports to him before telling anyone in his family about his condition.

Steve returned home with burgers and fries, but got jumpy when he heard a strange noise. He locked the front door. After Kayla went to take a nap, he grabbed his gun and secured the door some more. Steve was alarmed when he heard someone at the door, but it was just Stephanie.
He let her in, then slid the bolt back into place.

Tuesday

Outside the Brady Pub, Sami and Belle sadly noted that the family will never be the same now that Grandpa Shawn is gone. They went inside where Caroline, Shawn, Roman and Father Jansen were making funeral arrangements. Just as Caroline asked where the twins are, EJ strolled through the door with the babies. Caroline had a moment alone outside with EJ and said she recognized that he's trying to change his ways. She acknowledged that she had made mistakes, namely cheating on her vows with Victor. Caroline added that something good can come from mistakes, in her case, it was the birth of Bo. She encouraged EJ to not dwell on the past. After Sami and EJ went home, Caroline vowed to throw the perfect Irish sendoff for Shawn.... After returning home from the pub, Sami began to cry about Grandpa Shawn. EJ tenderly cradled his sobbing wife in his arms. Suddenly, Sami pulled away.

Steve insisted that Kayla lie down and rest, asking her to "give that bun in the oven time to rise." After making him promise to never use that metaphor again, Kayla agreed to take a nap. When she retired to the bedroom, Steve phoned someone and asked them to meet him. As the banged-up and bruised Steve was on his way out, Stephanie showed up. Noticing how jumpy Steve is, Steph asked if everything is okay with the baby. He covered by saying that he didn't want Kayla to know how sore his ribs are. Stephanie didn't buy it, so he admitted that he has something personal to deal with. Elsewhere, a smiling Ava gazed at a framed photo of herself and Steve.

Marlena arrived at the DiMera Mansion where John was going over Stefano's papers. He asked Doc if she could get him in to see Stefano. She pointed out that the Phoenix is in a catatonic state, so it would be pointless. John naughtily suggested that telling Stefano that they are half brothers could be fun. After discussing the possibility that confronting Stefano might stir John's forgotten memories, they prepared to leave, but were halted at the door by Abe, who brandished his badge. Carver announced that John was never officially released from custody. Marlena summoned Lexie to to vouch that John is in perfect help. Abe gave in, but warned that he'd be keeping an eye on John.

Steve and Stephanie's conversation was interrupted by Kayla, who had gotten up for something to eat. Stephanie offered to pick up a snack. After she departed for the store, Steve made another call, asking if the person on the other end could still meet him. Then he rushed out. Stephanie returned with snacks and she and her mom went to the bedroom to watch TV and nosh. A gun-toting Steve came back and made another call, saying, "Hey, man. That information you gave me — that did not trace back to Ava. Yeah, I know it's been a while. What do you mean? I'm not crazy. She is here. She got to me, man. She got to me, and people died because of her. Now, you listen to me. I have to find her. I have to stop her before she tries it again ... before she hurts somebody." In the meantime, Ava was also on the phone, purring, "I need your help. Daddy won't let me out of here again. He found out I went to see Patch. Yeah, well, he's back in Salem. And I need you to find out everything there is to know about him." She also wanted to know everything about "that bitch he married, who is carrying his child."... A short time later, Stephanie and Kayla emerged from the bedroom. Kayla was vexed by Steve's insistence that she rest. He got her to sit on the sofa and nuzzling ensued. Stephanie figured this was a good time to make her exit, noting that she loves her parents, but finds them "embarrassing." Alone, the couple went back to noisy smooching.

John and Marlena entered catatonic Stefano's room. "Well, look at you now, big guy," taunted John before dropping the bomb about their family tie. "The two people that you brought together were the last two people on earth that you should have ever brought together — me and my mother. That's right. Colleen brady. Your nemesis. The woman who broke your father's heart. She and Santo had a bastard kid — me. I'm their son and your half brother." Though he couldn't move or speak, Stefano heard John as he declared, "I hope you're enjoying your new life because I'm going to be enjoying your old one. I'm gonna go back to your house, which is now my house. I'm gonna drink your booze, smoke your cigars, eat your food, and sleep in your bed. And time will go by. And before long, it will be as though you never even existed." A furious Stefano thought, " Damn you, John. Damn you and your whore of a mother."

Wednesday

Marlena found Roman alone at the chapel, sitting in front of Grandpa Shawn's closed casket. As she comforted her grieving ex with an embrace, John strolled in and spotted the duo. After he sarcastically apologized for interrupting their "cuddle party," Marlena pointed out that he sounds jealous. Once Doc Evans and Roman told John of how close they all were before John lost his memory, he pulled Roman into a bear hug.... At the hospital, Lexie told Hope that Bo is stable for now, but Hope demanded to know if she is going to lose her husband. Lexie explained that she doesn't want to speculate until there is a diagnosis. Though Bo is weak, she gave the okay for him to attend the funeral, adding that she'll be there as well. The doctor asked Hope to make sure he returns to the hospital quickly.

A sobbing Caroline joined Kayla, Steve, Stephanie and Max at the Brady Pub. The widow cried that she didn't know how she would make it through the day. Kayla promised the family would all be there for her. Caroline smiled when Kimberly stepped into the room and seconded the sentiment. As her family hugged Kimberly, she explained that she'd just come from the airport. A short time later, Victor arrived to take Caroline to the service and said it was nice to see Kimberly again. She had harsh words for Kiriakis and frowned on the notion of him being alone with her mother. Caroline gently asked Kimberly to just let it go. However once it was just the two of them, Caroline declined Victor's offer, saying it was inappropriate and "people will talk." Caroline announced that she would get to the church on foot and have "one last walk" with Shawn.... Shawn's family and friends began filing into the church. As soon as Chloe and Philip arrived, she and Sami had harsh words over Brady. EJ introduced himself to Chloe and Sami snarked that it's odd that he hasn't heard of the "world-famous" opera singer.... Bo and Roman reminisced about Shawn's sense of humor.... Steve was standing outside when he spied a lurking Ava. She ran off with Steve in pursuit. He was interrupted by Abe and Lexie, who noted how winded and weak Steve seems. Steve told Abe that he wants to talk to him about a favor later.... Maggie, Sami and Marlena chatted about whether they will ever get John back. Marlena noted that she sees fleeting glimpses of the man they knew.... EJ opined to Sami that Shawn did a much better job with his family then Stefano did with the DiMeras.... Caroline made it to the church. The first person she greeted was EJ who gallantly walked her down the aisle to the front pew. At last it was time for the service to begin.

Roman spoke first, saying: "First of all, thank you all for coming. Pop was always real big on 'the more, the merrier.' Now, believe me, I'm gonna try to do justice to my dad, but I'm also gonna try to make this fairly short and sweet, because that is what Pop would want. He would want us to get done here and get over to the pub for the fun stuff. Pop is gonna want us to raise at least a couple pints to his memory, and if that's what Pop wants, then that's what I got to make myself do. So with that in mind, and also the fact that a few other family members want to speak, I just — I just want to say this: I am very, very honored that Pop was my father. He taught me a lot. Three things, in particular, come to mind. He taught me about hard work. We didn't have a whole lot growing up, but Pop always managed to put food on that table. He was a tough sucker. He worked long, long hours at that junkyard of his and fish market. That's why I was so glad — so glad — when he was finally able to realize his dream and open his own Irish pub. And I have John Black to thank for that. John Black put up the money to make that happen. Thank you, John. The second thing Pop taught me was honesty. He wanted all of his kids to do the right thing, no matter how hard it was. And the third thing pop taught me ... he taught me about love. He and my mom — an incredible marriage. I mean incredible. Did they have some rough spots?.... You bet they did. But they always, always came out stronger. So, Pop may be gone from us physically, but I will guarantee you this — his spirit will live on and on through Bo, Kimberly, Kayla, Max, me — his entire family. Hard work, honesty, love. That will be his legacy. And I really only have one more thing to say, and that is: Thank you, Pop. Thank you for everything." After blowing a kiss heavenward, Roman concluded, "I love you."

Kimberly got up to speak next and said, "It's true — Pop was known for his temper. And even though, you know, he did get angry from time to time, I soon realized it was only because he cared so much. I wish that I had been around more these past few years. I wish I had a chance to say good-bye. And I hope that he knew how much I appreciated him and I loved him and that no matter how far apart we were, he — he will always be in my heart, Papa."

When Kimberly wrapped up, it was Kayla's turn. "My pop liked to fish," she began, "And when I was little, he would take me out with him. It was such a special time for me because I had his undivided attention. And with four kids in our family, that was hard to come by. It gave us a chance to talk and a chance for him to give me his advice. And, uh, as I got older, the trips became less frequent, but his advice never stopped. And — believe me — he had a lot to say about my relationship with Steve. One of those last fishing trips took place right before my wedding to Steve." Kayla flashed back to a moment at the pier when Shawn gave his blessing to marry Steve. She finished up with, " My father gave me the strength to be the woman I am today. He always told me how proud he was of me. I hope he knows how proud I was of him." She fought back tears as she whispered, "I love you, Pop."

At last it was Bo's turn. He said: "Pop wasn't my biological father, but he was my pop in every other way. And I didn't make it easy on him. Growing up, we didn't get along, mostly because I was a big pain in the keister, as he'd say. But he never gave up on me, no matter how much I messed up or how many times the cops called the house 'cause of me. He was always there for me. Even after he found out that i wasn't his blood, he still loved me as if I were his own, and that's a sign of a great man. He had a generous heart — a heart — a heart full of love for Ma, for us kids, adopted kids, grandkids, great-grandkids. He liked nothing more than to have an excuse to party with the family."

Another flashback ensued of Bo — with a mullet — sharing a toast with Shawn. Bo continued, "He was a hero. He lived as one, and he died as one. He not only saved my life on that plane, but a thousand times." Roman and Hope leapt to their feet when a drained Bo seemed to stumble, but he assured them it was okay. Placing his hand on the casket, Bo concluded, "I'll never forget what you did, Pop ... what you gave me. I love you. Goodbye."

Chloe sang a solo as one by one, the mourners went up to the coffin to place roses or personal mementoes.... Sami hurled herself into EJ's arms and wept.... John looked a little dazed, but sad.... Once everyone else had said good-bye, Caroline went up to the coffin. She had a flashback to Shawn giving her a present, then she said: "May the earth rest easy over you when you're laid under it. May the earth rest so easy that your spirit will up from under it — up and off — and on its way to God. Goodbye, Shawn." Caroline burst into tears as she threw herself over the coffin.

Thursday

The Brady Pub was closed to the public for Grandpa Shawn's wake, which was packed. Though everyone tried to conjure up Shawn's jovial spirit, they really weren't feeling it.... Ava, clad in a mini skirt an boots, lurked outside in the snow. Hope worried about ailing Bo, but he insisted on staying until the toast. Afterward, Steve and Hope prepared to escort Bo back to the hospital. Seeing what bad shape her brother was in, an alarmed Kimberly offered to stay in Salem, but Bo assured her it was okay to catch her flight back to L.A. Outside, Bo urged Hope to stay at the wake and keep an eye on Caroline. She reluctantly agreed to let Steve transport her husband and thanked Steve with an embrace. Ava spied the hug and took a photo on her cell phone. It wasn't too long before Hope changed her mind and took off. She ran into Ava, who angrily asked if Hope loves Steve. "Of course I do. Who are you?" questioned a puzzled Hope. Ava replied with a crazy, vague "Mmm hmm" and walked away.

Mr. Lumberg phoned Anna and pressured her to bring in clients. She explained that all of the prospects she had contacted are clients of DiMera advertising. Anna announced that she would go check out Tony's agency to see what kind of operation they are running. She didn't get a response because her boss had hung up. Meanwhile, Tony sat in his office, where business is booming. He gazed at a photo of Anna and wished aloud that they were working together. He impulsively decided to take Anna to lunch and hurried off. He arrived at Lumberg Advertising bearing a large bouquet, but of course Anna's office was empty. He sat at her desk and looked over her notes, chuckling to himself. At DiMera advertising, Anna naturally found Tony's office unoccupied and snooped around his desk. She looked dispirited. They both wrote each other notes. A gloating Tony, wrote that Anna should join his firm and took a few swipes at her faltering business. In the meantime, Anna was interrupted by Tony's sexy, young assistant and made up a wild story about how lecherous Tony is with his employees. A short time later, Anna was back in her office. She smiled at the flowers, but then ripped up Tony's smug note. At DiMera Advertising, Tony found his outraged assistant packing her bags. After calling him a pervert, she quit and stormed out. Tony figured out what Anna had done and marched himself over to her office. She quickly admitted that she "might have gone too far," but it was too little, too late because Tony grabbed her roughly and ... pulled her into a long, steamy kiss. Well, that will teach her!

At the pub, a teary Kimberly said good-bye to her family, promising to come back. Then she left to catch her flight.... Steve took Abe aside and asked him to run the name "Vitali" through the police computer as a favor.... Victor sat with Caroline and they rehashed their long-ago affair.... The somber spirit began to lift and the liquored-up crowd began making spontaneous Irish toasts. Even EJ joined in and had everyone roaring at his witty toast and brogue accent.... Caroline made a toast, then raised her glass to a photo of smiling Shawn.

Ava returned to her lair and rifled through snapshots of all the people in "Patch's" life. Sneering at Hope's picture, she muttered: "So, you love Patch. It's a big, big mistake.".... Not long after Steve got Bo back to his hospital bed, Bo went into arrest. The nurse called for Lexie, who scrambled in, shouting for the "crash cart." Once the immediate crisis was over, Hope, Chelsea and Shawn showed up and waited anxiously for the test results. An emotional Lexie shocked Hope and the kids with with the news that Bo's pancreas is shutting down and he may die.

Friday

Despite how well they've been getting on, Sami told EJ she wants a quick annulment.

Still reeling from the news that he may die soon, Hope was by Bo's hospital bed when he awoke. When he asked if he was going to die, she declared that he most certainly will not. In the corridor, Chelsea and Shawn's discussion about Bo's failing pancreas, was overheard by Victor. He immediately butt in and pressed for details. Lexie walked by and Victor demanded to know if his son had pancreatic cancer like Isabella. Lexie explained that the pancreas isn't cancerous, however it is shutting down. After deriding the hospital's quality, Victor shouted about bringing in his own doctors, vowing he won't lose Bo. "Neither will I," said Caroline as she walked up.... Later, Lexie advised Bo about his condition and urged him to hang in there.

Tony visited catatonic Stefano and demanded to know if he had any regrets for the awful things he's done. Stefano, could hear him, flashed back to how he programmed John.

Marlena dropped by the DiMera mansion to talk to it's new occupant John. Soon Belle visited with Claire, who was excited to see "Pop-Pop." John looked stunned, but smiled and welcomed them in. In fact, he swept the girl up in his arms and asked her to be his "assistant" for the day. On the other hand, John was downright frosty to Belle, who wanted to cry on his shoulder about Grandpa Shawn. He gave her a brush-off, prompting Marlena to hiss that he was being mean. A glum, Belle handed John a photo of him and Claire. John talked sweetly to the little girl, then received another visitor, his lawyer Richard Griffin. The attorney had news about Stefano's holdings. John called an immediate family meeting. Tony and Anna arrived. As did EJ and Sami. The lawyer explained that incapacitated Stefano didn't appoint a power-of -attorney. As executor, it was up to Griffin to appoint someone to carry on his "legacy." Only one surviving blood relative gets Stefano's money. Stefano had cut everyone out of his will except his new grandson Giovanni, whose money is in a trust until Giovanni is 21. In the meantime, John is in control of the millions.
