DAYS Week of February 9, 2009
Monday
At the convent, Rafe looked at a sleeping Sami then left. She woke up and called out for him. Sister Theresa came in and Sami asked where Rafe was. Sami noted that she felt like she was never going to see him again. The nun assured her she would, then asked why Sami was so down. Sami explained that Rafe had become a friend and she had gotten used to him taking care of her. Sami took Grace for a walk. Rafe returned. Sister Theresa told him that Sami wasn't happy he left without telling her. He noted that she was going to have to get used to not seeing him around. She asked how his meeting with his boss went. "That was a complete disaster," he sighed. Sami returned, thrilled to see Rafe. He didn't tell her about his bad meeting with his boss.
Abe stopped by the Brady home to see Bo and asked what happened with Hope and Kayla. "I blew it, big time," Bo replied. Abe was confused, noting that killing Marino's assassin was heroic. Bo explained that he had a vision of Hope shooting Kayla and didn't tell Hope. He also revealed that he had seen Theo in two previous visions, where he wound up saving his life. Abe urged Bo to explain things to Hope. "It's too late," Bo said.
Hope visited Kayla in the hospital and asked Kay if she could forgive her. Kayla hugged her and said of course she could. She urged Hope not to blame herself. Hope said she wishes she had known. Kayla asked her what she meant. Hope told Kay about Bo's visions and revealed that he had seen the shooting before it happened. Someone else knew, too, Hope revealed. Steve walked in at that moment and Kayla asked if Bo had told him about his vision. Steve asked Hope to excuse them, then revealed that yes, he knew about Bo's vision. She was upset that he didn't tell her, but Steve explained that he and Bo didn't know if it was real. He said he would quit the detective business if it would make her happy. They made up.
At home, Bo asked Hope if she was doing better. She said she was only concerned about Kayla. He surprised her with plane tickets to Hawaii. He said he got a great deal on fares and hotels. She said she didn't want to go. "Don't pressure me to get over it," she told him. "You will not dismiss my feelings. Never again." She explained that she was second-guessing everything she had done at the hospital. Bo told her she was wrong to blame herself and asked what he could do to help. "There's nothing you can do," she replied. "There was, but there's nothing you can do now." She announced that she was moving to Doug and Julie's — and taking Ciara with her. Bo didn't understand her doing something so drastic. She packed her things and came downstairs. He asked her why she was doing this. "I don't know," she cried. He said it was to punish him. She told him she was sorry and left. Bo broke some things after she did.
At Titan, Stephanie told Philip that she overheard him talking to Victor about Melanie and realized that he wasn't the man she thought he was. Philip tried to explain that it was just business, but Steph was unsettled by his tone. Phil didn't understand why Steph was defending Melanie. Steph said she didn't like her, but Melanie was a human being. A heated argument ensued. Philip told Steph she was free to walk away from him now that she saw his true colors. Steph thanked him for his permission and noted that he was a "heartless bastard." She added that she didn't want to end things with him. He told her she was in love with a fantasy version of him. She said she knew he could be a better person and if he couldn't be, then she would walk away. He angrily told her he didn't need to reform and didn't need someone around who thought they were better than him. He stormed off, leaving Steph in near tears.
Melanie called EJ and left a message asking why he hadn't gotten back to her. Max approached her and asked her what kind of trouble she had gotten herself into. She revealed that she was moving the project from Titan to the DiMeras. He told her it was a crazy, destructive move and asked her why she was doing it. She said that she was worried about his lack of interest in the project. "Or worried about his lack of interest in you, perhaps?' Max countered. She acted like she wasn't that interested in him, but Max wasn't buying it. She admitted that she considered herself a better catch than "schoolteachery" Stephanie. He warned her she was a minor league player in a major league game. "I am not a minor league anything," she sniffed. She said she would use the project as bait to make Philip fall for her — as long as Max kept mum.
The standoff between Nicole, EJ and Brady continued at the mansion. Nicole went to check on Sydney while EJ promised to find out what was really going on. Suddenly, Nicole cried out that Sydney wasn't breathing. They rushed her to the hospital. Lexie took the baby, then came back and reported that the baby was okay, but had to stay on a ventilator. Nicole was distraught; EJ comforted her. He went to fetch her some tea and she told Brady what happened to Sydney was her fault. EJ returned and told Brady he could leave. Brady said he wanted to stay. EJ bristled and demanded to know what was going on with them. Brady said he was being a friend to her as part of his 12-step program. EJ still ordered him out. Brady took off.
Tuesday
At the hospital, Nicole told EJ she couldn't keep him in the dark anymore and said what had happened to Sydney was her fault. He asked what she needed to tell him. Before Nicole could come clean, Lexie returned with news that Sydney was fine. Lexie then asked for Nicole's family history. She thought Sydney's breathing problems might be related to something genetic. Lexie asked about SIDS. EJ wondered why Sydney would be at risk for that, then added that Sami was always worried about that with Johnny but he didn't know why. Nicole got woozy and nearly fainted. EJ calmed her down. Stefano came storming in, demanding to know what was wrong with his granddaughter. EJ tore into his father for being so blustery with a fragile Nicole. Lexie returned and said that the baby had minor reflux and could be treated easily. Nicole and EJ went to see their daughter. Stefano remarked to Lexie that Nicole was a schemer and was hiding something. Lexie criticized her father for attacking Nicole, so he said he would apologize.
Daniel checked in on Kayla. She said she wouldn't be able to attend the hospital fundraiser and asked him to take her place. She asked if he had considered her idea, which was to auction off a date with him to raise money. He said he wasn't up for it. Stephanie came to visit Kayla, who could tell something was wrong with her daughter. Steph admitted she was having problems with Philip. "I think it's over," she told her mom. They talked about what had happened with Philip. Kayla noted that Steve was a "bad guy" when she met him, but their love and his big heart turned him around. Steph hoped the same could happen with Philip, but Kayla wasn't sure it was possible.
Chloe arrived at the Kiriakis mansion to meet up with Kate and Lucas and ran into Philip, who was on his way out He stopped by Maggie's house to see Melanie. He reported that he and Steph broke up because of her and the way Philip treated Melanie. He told her that if she took her patents to the DiMeras, she would lose the only thing she wanted — him. While they were chatting, a man showed up and served Melanie with papers that prevented her from taking her patents elsewhere. She realized he had duped her by the visit, then said he may have won this round, but not the war. After, she called EJ and told him that his dragging his feet may have cost him the fuel project. He told her that his daughter had been in the hospital. She said she needed to see him immediately. He took off to meet her and she told him "eliminate Philip." Back at the DiMera manse, Dr. Baker arrived to see Nicole.
Kate and Lucas suggested a Valentine's Day wedding date for Chloe and Lucas. Victor overheard and made a nasty crack about Chloe. Chloe decided it was the perfect day to wed. They headed to Chez Rouge for the fundraiser. Kate asked Maggie if she could cater the wedding, but Maggie noted it was her own anniversary and she already had plans. Lucas pulled Kate aside to go over her speech; Maggie asked Chloe if Daniel knew that she had set a date. Chloe insisted it was over with Dr. J.
Kate made a speech about the great doctors at University Hospital and urged everyone to open their checkbooks and donate to the hospital. Stefano arrived and chatted with Kate about having future plans. Maggie announced that they had received an anonymous donation in Kate's name for $100,000. She then announced that Lucas had donated $1,000 for Chloe to sing. Victor told Daniel he would pay $10,000 for Chloe not to sing. The men bickered. Victor realized that Daniel was defending Chloe because he had feelings for her. Daniel said they were just friends. Vic warned him that Chloe was trouble. "Tell Lucas, then," Daniel advised. Victor told Daniel that Chloe and Lucas had set a wedding date. Daniel looked visibly pained. Chloe sang her song, then rushed out to the pier, where Lucas found her crying. She told him she couldn't marry him.... Philip arrived at the fundraiser and told Victor that all was set with Melanie. Steph came in and Philip did a double take.
Wednesday
Maggie warned Daniel not to go after Chloe, who ran out after singing to Lucas. Daniel told her it was none of her business. Daniel returned to the hospital to check in on Kayla. She noted that he seemed lonely. She pressed him about his love life, which made him uncomfortable.
On the pier, Lucas asked Chloe why she said she couldn't marry him. She cried that it was a lot of things and apologized. "Just tell me what's going on. Talk to me, please," he implored. She told him that she loved him, which confused him even more. She said the best thing she could do for him was to walk away. She added that she wasn't good enough for him, noting that she had ruined every relationship she had in the past. He insisted that wouldn't happen to them. "You're not gonna break my heart," he told her. "I already have," she sighed. While they were talking, her phone rang: It was Daniel. Lucas asked who it was. "Nobody," she replied. He restated that he was confused by her change of heart and said he loved her more than he had ever loved anyone, which just upset her more. "I'm a horrible person!" she cried. "I'm not who you think I am!" She returned his ring but he didn't want to take it back. She apologized and took off. She went to Daniel's apartment and asked him to run away with her.
At the fundraiser, Stefano approached Victor to discuss the fuel project. "May the best man win," The Phoenix told him. Brady arrived and told his grandfather that he was late because there was a scare with Nicole's baby. Victor asked what that had to do with Brady. Brady explained that Nicole was his friend. Victor told him to leave Nicole alone and let EJ deal with her. "She tried to kill me," Victor reminded him, then questioned his family loyalty. An annoyed Victor left for a meeting.
Philip and Stephanie talked about their fight. She told him she had consulted Kayla, who suggested they break up for good. Philip said they should say good-bye, then, but Steph said she wasn't ready to do that because she loved him. They kissed, then realized they were the last people in the restaurant. Maggie dimmed the lights for them and they shared a dance. They then decided to go to the Cheatin' Heart. Steph went to freshen up first. Maggie talked to Philip about how she was concerned about Lucas and Chloe. While they were chatting, Derek, the man who served Melanie with the injunction, came in. Stephanie spied Philip paying him off and chuckling about putting the screws to Melanie. Derek left. Steph asked Phil who that was. Philip said it was business and he wasn't going to apologize for it. She told him she had a nice time, but had to go home.
Dr. Baker told Nicole he wanted to check in on her baby. Nicole was not pleased to see him and told him Sydney was fine. He noted it was a nice name and wondered what Sami would think about it. Nic said it didn't matter; the baby was hers now. She told him how Sydney had stopped breathing earlier. He made a veiled threat about how he might not keep her secret. She ordered him out of her house. He said he wanted cash, ASAP. Nicole went to the Kiriakis mansion to talk to Brady and told her that Dr. Baker wanted money. She implored him to help her. He said he didn't have access to a lot of cash, considering he was a recovering drug addict. She asked him to take money from Titan, but he refused to embezzle. He urged her to tell EJ the truth before she became "more attached." Nicole got a little unglued, saying that she took better care of her than Sami ever would. "Sami? What does Sami have to do with this?" he asked her. She covered her slip. He warned her that she was living a lie. He accessed the Kiriakis safe and gave her the money. She hugged him. Just then, Victor walked in.
EJ asked Melanie what she meant by telling him he should "get rid of Philip." She said she didn't mean it literally. He told her she needed to get her hands on the fuel project prototype blueprints. She said she thought she could. EJ left and reported to Stefano that everything was going according to their plan. Melanie went to Titan and tried to break into Philip's computer but didn't have his password. She accidentally set off an alarm on it, then called the security office and said she was Stephanie and everything was fine.
Thursday
Victor walked in on Brady giving Nicole money and demanded to know what was going on. Brady said it was private. "So is my safe," Victor pointed out. Brady lied that Nicole loaned him money when he returned to Salem because he was broke and too ashamed to ask Victor. Vic didn't believe him, then added that he refused to let Nicole have a dime. Brady told Nicole to leave so he could have it out with his grandfather.
At the mansion, EJ left an angry message for Nicole, who was missing in action. Dr. Baker came in, claiming to be checking up on Sydney. EJ said the baby was fine. After an awkward silence, the doc asked to speak to Nicole. EJ said she wasn't home, then advised the ob/gyn to leave her alone since she had her own physician. The doctor left. Nicole came home. An angry EJ asked her where the hell she had been. She pushed a bag at him and said there was an apnea monitor inside so they would know right away if Sydney stopped breathing again. He apologized. Nicole said she was sorry for worrying him. She wanted to get frisky with him but her phone rang. EJ went to grab it but she stopped him because she didn't want him to see the wad of cash she had in her purse. He went to check on Sydney and she rushed outside to pay off Dr. Baker.
At the pier, Lucas held Chloe's engagement ring and wanted to throw it away, but stopped himself. A frantic Kate found him and asked what was going on. He told his mother that Chloe dumped him. She asked why. He said he didn't know and thought maybe she had cold feet. "Maybe she just doesn't want to be married to me," he lamented. Kate said they could still fix things.
Chloe went to Daniel's apartment and begged him to run off with her that night. He asked her why. She told him that she broke off her engagement to Lucas. During their talk, Kate called Daniel. He didn't pick up, but told Chloe he had to go and asked her to stay and wait for him. He also told her she did the right thing with Lucas. He kissed her, then took off to meet Kate. At the hospital, she apologized for calling him so many times, but said she needed to talk. "I am so worried about Lucas," she sighed.
At Titan, Philip busted Melanie trying to swipe the fuel project blueprints. He told her it was a big mistake, and one that was caught on the security cameras. They bickered. Philip called the security guard to have Melanie removed from the premises.
Max chatted on the phone with Nick and caught him up with everything that was going on in Salem. He assured Nick that he had received the package and would keep it safe. Melanie arrived and huffed that Philip had gotten an injunction preventing her from taking her patents elsewhere. She admitted to Max that she hacked into the Titan computer and tried to steal the blueprints. She spied the envelope Max had on the bar and asked what it was. He said it was a copy of the blueprints, from Nick. Melanie giggled that she had Philip right where she wanted him.
Philip returned home and told Victor what happened with Melanie at Titan. Victor assumed Philip had her arrested, but Phil told his father that he didn't because he was trying to avoid bad publicity. "I think there's more to it than that. I think you and I basically disagree on the definition of ‘nailing her,' " Victor groused. Philip insisted he wanted nothing to do with Melanie.
Brady ran into Lucas on the pier and brought up Chloe, so Lucas took off abruptly. Chloe arrived a moment later and asked Brady what Lucas had said. Brady noted he seemed upset and wondered what was going on with them. Chloe didn't want to talk about it. They had a friendly talk.
Friday
Melanie visited Max at the Cheatin' Heart and he asked her if she came back for the blueprints. He refused to help her. She offered him a cut of the profits, but he still said no dice. When he left the room to check on a delivery, she sneaked a look at the blueprints. He caught her, so she left.
Nicole fed Sydney. EJ came in with the newspaper and surprised her by showing her that he put their wedding announcement in the paper. She worried the date was too soon. He said they could push it back a few weeks. He wrote her a check for $10,000 to buy a wedding dress. She called Brady and asked him to meet her at the pier.
At the convent, Grace was crying. Rafe called out for Sami, then picked up the infant. Sami came in and asked what he was doing. He sheepishly admitted he was trying to soothe her. Sami took the baby from him and she quieted down. Sami said she missed her other kids but was upset at having to leave Grace behind. Rafe urged her to just talk to EJ and tell him the truth. After, she looked at the paper and saw EJ and Nicole's wedding announcement — and that Nicole delivered Sydney on the same day Sami had Grace. She considered interrupting EJ and Nicole's nups, then decided against that because she knew Nicole would self-destruct on her own.
At Titan, Brady asked Stephanie if he had seen Melanie. Philip overheard and reported that he had fired her. He told them what happened the night before. Brady asked Phil what he did to piss her off. Philip bristled at the implication. Brady left to meet Nicole. Philip asked Steph why she hadn't picked up when he called the night before. She said she wasn't sure that he was the man she fell in love with. He accused her of wanting him to be more like Max. She insisted she wanted to like Philip for him. He suggested she liked him as she is. She called him deluded and arrogant. He invited her to lunch, but she stormed off in a huff. She went to the Pub to get food, where Philip also happened to show up. He asked if they could have a clean slate and re-introduced himself to Stephanie.
Melanie went to the mansion to talk to EJ and told him she didn't have the blueprints, but needed a piece of paper and a pencil to recreate them from her photographic memory. She gave him half of the formula to prove to him and his "people" that she is legit. She said she needed money for the rest.
On the pier, Nicole returned the 10 grand she borrowed from Brady and told him that she also paid off Dr. Baker. But she was still worried he or Mia would come back. Brady assured her that Doc Baker had more to lose than she did because he could go to jail. "He's not the only one," she noted and took off. Brady called Nico, Victor's henchman, and told him to track down Dr. Baker. Brady went to meet the doc and threatened to break his neck if he continued to use Nicole as his "personal ATM." ... Nicole returned to the mansion, where she got a call from Mia, who needed to talk to her about her baby.
Melanie went to the Pub, where she spied Stephanie and Philip in a lip-lock. She apologized to Philip for what happened at Titan and said they should bet bygones be bygones. Steph wondered what she was up to.
