DAYS Week of July 13, 2009
Monday
Kate asked Lucas how Chloe was doing. He said she was doing well. Lucas handed his mother some production notes for the show's taping that day. He went to the hospital to see Chloe, who was with Daniel. Lucas asked Daniel to come over for dinner some night, but Daniel begged off. Lucas thought it was weird. Chloe got a good report from the doctor. She and Lucas ran into Daniel after. Lucas mentioned the taping, but Daniel said he couldn't make it because he had so many patients to see and couldn't get home in between work and the show. Lucas offered to go to his place and pick up the clothes. Daniel turned over his key.
Back at the Kiriakis manse, a man came in with a small delivery for Kate. She kicked her assistant Chris out and paid the man. After he left, she opened the box. There was a key inside. She then took out the poison she used to harm Chloe. After, she sneaked into Daniel's apartment and planted the poison in his place. She heard Chloe and Lucas outside and hid in the closet. Chloe got weird when she walked into Daniel's pad, recalling her intimate moments there with him. Lucas went to fetch the clothes. Chloe spied an item on the floor that Kate had left behind.
At the DiMera mansion, Nicole told EJ that dropping the custody suit was the right thing so she, EJ and Sydney could move forward as a family. EJ was still bent on getting some sort of revenge on Sami.
Rafe came to Sami's townhouse. She asked him to move in with her. He was surprised and didn't answer right away, which made her uneasy. He explained that he didn't want her to rush into it. She said she wasn't. They happily made plans to live together.
At the Brady Pub, Philip revealed to Melanie that Stephanie dumped him. She was unfazed and wanted to order dessert. She noted they'd be back together soon enough. Melanie urged him to fight for Steph.
At the hospital, Steph ran into Nathan, literally. He asked her to go for coffee, but then got a call and picked up his phone. He realized it was her phone and that someone named Philip was calling. He handed the cell to her. Steph didn't answer it. Nathan questioned her about Philip, but she said it was none of his business. He apologized and introduced himself to her. They made the Horton/Brady connection.
Back at the Pub, Brady came in as Philip told Mel that he didn't think Steph was coming back to Titan. Brady asked his uncle what he did to make Steph leave him. Philip got insulted and left. Melanie wondered why Brady wasn't with Arianna. He warned her to stop matchmaking and not to interfere with Phil and Steph. Melanie asked Brady to talk to Philip about her getting Stephanie's Titan job now that Steph was working at the hospital.... Steph called Philip back and asked him to stop calling her, explaining they needed a clean break. She returned to the hospital and ran into Melanie, who reported that Philip told her everything. Mel asked Steph to meet her later for plans. Steph said okay.
EJ arrived at Sami's townhouse to find Rafe moving in. They exchanged barbs. EJ took off. While unpacking his things, Rafe found an engagement and wedding ring. He took them out and said, "Emily." He then found a newspaper clipping that read, "Bride To Be Dies Mysteriously."
Nicole called Sami and asked to meet. Nic then took Sydney to the park. Sami arrived. She asked when she could see Johnny again. Nicole explained that things had changed. Sami was alarmed, but Nicole reported that she got EJ to drop the custody case. Sami was thrilled and thanked Nicole. Nicole reminded her to keep Rafe out of DiMera affairs. Sydney started to get fussy, so Nicole picked her up. Sami held the baby while Nic looked for her pacifier. Sami noted how beautiful Syd was and how she looked just like her mother. Gulp, thought Nicole. EJ came upon them and took the baby from Sami, saying she could never hold her again. EJ said he was about to drop the custody suit until he saw Rafe at her apartment. He wasn't happy that she was exposing his son to a man she knew nothing about. She insisted she knew everything that mattered.
On the pier, Brady ran into Daniel, who was about to go for a run. Brady noted that the doc seemed out of sorts. Daniel revealed he had a situation with a patient and it rattled him. He revealed that it was Chloe —and that he loved her.
Tuesday
Daniel continued telling Brady about his love for Chloe, but how he's backed off from her, because she's married to Lucas. Still, he didn't know how to let her go. Daniel told Brady about being on the Hearth and Home show with Chloe and that Lucas was producing it. Brady asked why Daniel didn't bow out. Daniel explained how Kate "bamboozled" him into doing the show for charity. Brady left, and Daniel phoned Chloe, saying he had to talk to her.
Brady arrived at the pub and waited to talk to Arianna. He admitted he should have told her about his addiction earlier. "It's not you. I have my own history," announced Arianna, noting she had a beau who was an addict. When Brady left, Arianna muttered that he could never know the truth.
While Lucas fetched Daniel's clothes for the shoot, Chloe discovered a scarf on the floor. She wondered if someone else was there. Chloe went to open the closet as a nervous Kate hid inside. Lucas came out and dissuaded her. Chloe said she thought something weird was going on. She smelt perfume and recognized the scent. Lucas said it was none of their business and took Chloe away. Kate emerged from the closet and checked to make sure the vial was still there.
"You expect my son to live in a house with a man you don't know anything about?" EJ asked Sami. Sami retaliated, noting she knew plenty about EJ, like how he was behind abductions and attempted murders. Nicole begged the pair to think of Johnny. EJ asked Nicole to take Sydney home so he could talk to Sami alone. Sami insisted she wasn't afraid of EJ. Once Stephanie testified, the judge and everyone in town would know what kind of man he is. EJ asked what Sami really knew about Rafe. Sami praised Rafe for protecting her and being a good man. EJ decided to drop the custody suit, but vowed to find out everything he could about him. Sami urged EJ to go ahead; he wouldn't find anything. EJ wasn't so sure and warned Sami to be careful.
Chloe arrived at the DiMera mansion and moaned to Nicole that Daniel was seeing another woman. Nicole realized Chloe was having a hard time moving on. Chloe told Nicole she realized she couldn't have anything to do with Daniel. Meanwhile, Lucas confronted Daniel about seeing someone. Kate interrupted and dragged Lucas off. Daniel asked Chloe if she got his message. She said they had nothing to say to each other. Chris arrived with the food for the show. Kate thought back to poisoning it. Later, Chloe ate it and the show wrapped. Lucas announced he was off to Hong Kong for business. He and Chloe left, as she reminded him his blue suit was at the cleaners. "Blue suit ... Perfect for your funeral," muttered Kate.
EJ returned to the mansion and told Nicole he wasn't going through with the custody hearing, but if he dug anything up on Rafe that would change. Nicole asked if this was just about Johnny or if EJ was jealous Rafe had Sami. Nicole accused EJ of being obsessed with Sami and still having feelings for her. EJ insisted he simply didn't trust Rafe.
Rafe found an old newspaper article about Emily's death and burned it. Will came home to pick up some clothes, and they discussed Rafe moving in and the Sami/EJ situation. Rafe insisted Sami needed Will. He even volunteered not to move in if that's what was keeping Will away. Will was touched. Sami walked in and Will hugged her. She revealed that EJ agreed to drop the custody hearing. Sami and Will made up; then, he left for practice. Alone, Sami thanked Rafe for talking to Will.
Wednesday
Sami chatted on the phone with Allie about getting together later. Rafe came in and Sami noted how it would be nice to all be together. Sami glanced at a picture of Grace and got teary eyed. Sami offered to help Rafe unpack. He suggested they take advantage of being alone. They started smooching on the couch, but Sami got distracted by a couple of Rafe's things. Then, she found something else: a box containing two rings. Sami assumed Rafe was going to propose. The look on his face told her she was wrong. Sami realized the rings were Emily's. Rafe insisted the rings and Emily were in his past. Sami was his now. The pair headed to the bedroom. Later, Sami looked for her keys and found the rattle Caroline gave Grace. Rafe said it was good to still have some of Grace's things. She was part of the family.
EJ was playing with Johnny, when Will arrived and thanked him for dropping the custody suit. EJ said Nicole convinced him to drop it and that Will could see Johnny any time. EJ said he liked the stories Will told at Grace's service and wished he had those memories. Will offered to send EJ pictures of Grace. Mia arrived, and Will went to introduce her. EJ noted they'd already met. EJ took Johnny off, and Mia and EJ chatted. Mia went on about how nice Nicole was and what a good dad EJ was. Will returned with Johnny, and he and Mia headed off. Later, they arrived at the Java Caf. Chad and Kinsey were there. Kinsey asked why Chad was drooling over Mia. Chad thought back to a moment from their past. Kinsey said Will met Mia after she got out of rehab. "Rehab?" asked Chad. Meanwhile, Sami met EJ in the park and picked up Johnny. Rafe arrived and the threesome left to get Allie. EJ muttered Sami should enjoy this, while it lasted.
Kate urged Philip to call Stephanie. "Grovel a little bit. Women love that," she insisted. Philip said the situation was hopeless. Chloe got a call from Kate, who gave her the day off. Seconds later, Chloe collapsed. Daniel wandered up and revived her. Chloe admitted she loved him and they kissed. Turned out Chloe was just dreaming. Back to reality, Chloe lay unconscious. Kate came upon her and vowed things would get a lot worse. Later, Kate arrived at Daniel's apartment and scolded him for not reporting to the studio to do voice overs. Daniel said he was leaving town and resigning from the hospital. Kate glanced over to the poison she planted and realized Daniel's running away would make him look more guilty.
Lexie announced Steph got the hospital job. Maggie and Nathan congratulated her. Melanie called and Steph told her she couldn't go on that trip to the Horton cabin. Melanie wouldn't take no for an answer. Melanie proceeded to call Philip and invite him on the same outing. Afterwards, she and Maggie discussed her matchmaking.
Later, Chloe was in the hospital, and Lexie ordered tests. Chloe dreamt of being married to Daniel. Lexie realized she had to page Daniel for help. "No. I don't want him anywhere near me," muttered Chloe. At the nurses' station, Daniel delivered his letter of resignation. Meanwhile, Kate listed to an audio tape she had doctored of Chloe and Daniel. Daniel seemingly said, "If I can't have you, no one will."
Steph arrived at the Horton cabin. Moments later, Philip walked in and headed off to change into his swimsuit. Melanie found Steph and told her to change into her bathing suit. Soon, Steph and Philip were standing face to face half dressed. Philip swore he had nothing to do with the setup. Steph told him she got the job at the hospital. Philip turned to leave, but Melanie said the ferry didn't come back for hours. Melanie left the couple alone. Philip told Steph he wanted to say a proper goodbye, as they professed their love to each other. Outside, Melanie was quite pleased with herself.
Thursday
Ciara had a birthday party in the park. She opened a box containing a pink princess dress, which everyone went gaga over. Nathan arrived and took Ciara off to play in the bouncy house. A stranger watched, while looking at a picture of Ciara. Abe and Theo walked up. When Theo left to join Ciara, Abe thanked Hope for her donation to the autism foundation. Hope said it was supposed to be anonymous. Hope went to hand out some cupcakes, and Bo told Abe about his latest vision: Zack warning him something bad would happen if Ciara lost Tommy Bear. Bo said they had the bear hidden away. Later, Ciara and her pal talked about trading their stuffed giraffe and teddy bear. Ellen watched the girls. When her daughter ran off, Ellen went after her, leaving Ciara alone. The stranger approached Ciara and told her it was his birthday, too. Ciara said she wasn't allowed to talk to strangers. He said he wasn't a stranger and handed her a lollipop. Ciara took it. Hope returned and asked where Ciara got her treat. She said a friend gave it to her. Hope took the wrapper off the lollipop.
Philip told Stephanie he'd always love her. She returned the sentiment. Melanie watched and was thrilled. Brady walked up behind her and asked what she was doing. He quickly realized Melanie was playing matchmaker again. They both watched as Philip kissed Steph. Melanie asked Brady if he asked out Arianna. He said he did, but she turned him down. Steph stopped her kiss with Philip, noting that while they loved each other, nothing had changed between them. Philip was annoyed. Steph ran out, and Philip followed. Brady stopped Philip. Steph told Melanie she wasn't mad at her. She knew her heart was in the right place. Brady tried to calm down Philip; then, left. Melanie apologized to Philip. He phoned for a speedboat, so he and Melanie could head home.
Kate complained to Chris about Chloe and Daniel's Hearth and Home segment. They were just too tense. She wondered if Daniel had a thing for Chloe and went on about her daughter-in-law's comfort coming first. Kate revealed that none of this would be a problem, because Daniel quit. Later, Chris was at Maggie's filling the director in on what happened. Maggie wondered why Daniel quit. Kate arrived; then, headed off with the director. Although he was reticent at first, Chris ended up giving Maggie the scoop on Chloe and Daniel.
Daniel gave Maxine his letter of resignation to give to Lexie. Maxine refused to take it. Lexie was inside Chloe's room. Chloe repeated that Lexie should keep Daniel away from her. Lexie read Chloe's test results, but they showed nothing. Daniel gave Lexie his letter of resignation. She tried to talk him out of it to no avail. Daniel entered Chloe's room and sat on her bed. Chloe, who was drifting in and out, told Daniel he shouldn't be there and to go away. It turned out Chloe was only dreaming, but Lexie heard her say, "No Daniel, don't." Nathan found Daniel cleaning out his locker. Steph arrived for her job orientation. Brady phoned her to make sure she was okay. Steph insisted she was. When she hung up, Steph started to cry. Nathan found Steph and comforted her. Later, Daniel was home packing, while Kate paid a visit to Chloe in her hospital room. She said the hospital called her, because Lucas was out of town. Chloe told Kate she was feeling a little better. Kate promised everything would be fine. After the next show, Chloe would never have to see Daniel again.
Friday
Nathan caught Melanie on the computer and asked if she was planning to cheat on her nursing test. She insisted she wasn't cheating, but that she needed some help. They argued. Nathan told Mel about Maggie's past (her parents were killed in a car accident that left Maggie paralyzed) to make her understand why it was important to be passionate about medicine. Melanie was moved and agreed to give it a try.
Victor chastised Brady for getting water all over the living room after his swim. He invited his grandson to breakfast at the Brady Pub, but Brady said no. Victor asked why he had a problem with the Pub. Brady said it wasn't the Pub; it was the new manager. Victor asked what was going on with this woman. Nothing, Brady insisted. Vic suggested she was looking to her her hooks into Brady. Brady explained that the woman wasn't even interested in him. Vic thought she was crazy, then. Brady got dressed. When he came back, Victor told Brady that he was proud of him and assured him he'd find the right woman. "And when you do, she'll be well worth the wait," Vic said.
Sami had a picnic in the park with Johnny and Allie. Nicole came by with baby Sydney. The women sat and talked. Sami hugged Nicole and thanked her for getting EJ to drop the custody suit. It was awkward, which they both acknowledged with terms like "the apocalypse" and "hell freezing over." Nicole commented that they had both lost their little girls. When Sami asked what she meant, Nic covered that she had a health scare with Syd after the baby was born. Sami asked why she phrased it that way then. Nicole stammered to explain. Sami then talked about losing Grace. Nicole pointed out that she had three wonderful children and a great guy in Rafe. Sami asked if she and Nicole could declare a truce. Nicole said yes, it was time.
Rafe unpacked more boxes at Sami's place. Arianna came by with breakfast. Rafe offered her a picture to take home, but she didn't want it. She asked why he was giving his things away, then realized he was moving in with Sami. She said she saw it coming, but doesn't think it's a great idea because it was too soon. The conversation turned to her. She did admit she was interested in someone, but had changed her mind because the guy was a recovering addict.
Rafe came upon Sami and Nicole in the park and saw that Sami was crying. He asked if Nic was upsetting her. No, Sami explained, they had called a truce. Sami went to get the kids from the sandbox while Rafe chatted with Nicole. He again asked why she was so upset at Grace's grave. Nicole got defensive, then took the kids and left. Sami asked Rafe what he said to her. Back at the apartment, he mentioned Nicole grieving at Grace's grave. He and Sami happily looked to their future.
At the DiMera mansion, Stefano looked at a photo and file he had on Rafe.
Melanie went to the Pub and splurged on a sundae. Ari asked her what was wrong. Melanie told her she thought she bombed her nursing exam. Mel asked why Ari couldn't be with Brady and explained that he had been sober for a while. Ari said she just couldn't and got up to work. Melanie grabbed her cell and rushed out. Brady met her on the pier. She told him that she talked to Ari at the Pub and that Ari likes Brady. He refused to get sucked into her matchmaking schemes. She headed to work. Nathan caught her running in. She said she would get in trouble if she was late. He held the results from her nursing exam: She passed. He pointed out that she still owed him dinner. "You're on," she smiled.... Ari made a call to someone to say she was named manager of the Pub and was "good to go." Brady came in to see her.
Nicole returned to the DiMera manse and was about to pour herself a drink when Stefano walked in and startled her. Nic told the Phoenix that Rafe was still grilling her and began to spin. Stefano assured her he would take care of it and she had nothing to worry about.
