DAYS Week of July 27, 2009
Monday
EJ asked Nicole why she was so anxious. She tried to gloss over it, but he pressed, pointing out that she seemed to be in a lot of pain over Grace's death. She turned things around on him and noted that he was obsessed with Sami. Nicole said she thought EJ wished he had married Sami, not her. EJ laughed and insisted that wasn't true. He fell asleep, then had a dream of Sami in bed with him, holding Sydney. He woke up, startled. Nic asked if he was okay; he said he was.
At the hospital, Daniel eyed Kate and told Bo and Hope that he believes Kate was the one who poisoned Chloe. He recounted how she had motive and opportunity to plant the drug and harm her daughter-in-law. He also revealed that he had an affair with Chloe. They Bradys questioned Kate. She laid it on thick with tears, noting how Daniel had saved her life and Philip's life and how she had defended him. She cried that she didn't want to see Chloe hurt. Maggie entered and revealed to Hope and Kate that she had told Lucas the truth about Daniel and Chloe, but that he forgot it after the explosion in Chloe's apartment. "How do you know that?" Bo queried, wondering if Lucas was the culprit. Kate insisted her son wasn't to blame.
Brady arrived and reported to Bo and Hope that he had called Craig and Nancy to let them know about Chloe. The Bradys were shocked that Kate hadn't already done that. Daniel implored Brady to go in to see Chloe and urge her to wake up. He also asked Brady to keep Kate away from Chloe. Kate visited with Chloe and played along like she cared, but whispered to her daughter-in-law that she should just let go. Brady came in so Kate left. He urged his ex to fight; she squeezed his hand.
The Bradys talked to Daniel again. They said they weren't going to arrest him yet. Brady ran out and said that Chloe was waking up. Doc Jonas rushed in. Lexie examined Chloe and concluded it was probably an involuntary motion that coma patients make. Daniel insisted he could get through to her but a cop arrived with the forensics report. The drug vial from Daniel's apartment had his fingerprints on it. Daniel insisted that wasn't possible. Kate had a flashback of planting his prints on the bottle. Bo advised Dan to call a lawyer to meet them at the station. "Am I under arrest?" he asked incredulously, then refused to leave. Bo and the cops had to forcibly take Dr. J to the cop shop.
In the locker room, Melanie walked in on Maggie crying to Nathan. Maggie warned both of them not to eat anything in the kitchen, for fear they could get poisoned, too. Maggie sensed tension between Mel and Nate, but they said everything was fine. Maggie left to call Mia. Mel apologized to Nathan for missing their date. He asked when they could reschedule.
At the Kiriakis manse, Stephanie visited Philip. He told her he had just been at the hospital and that Chloe was possibly dying. She filled him in about her fight with Melanie. She said she was wrong to give him his ring back and say that she wanted him out of her life. She said she still wanted to be his friend and admitted to Philip that she was still in love with him. They were about to kiss when Henderson walked in to say Lucas would be landing in a couple of hours. They talked about Melanie; Philip pointed out that Steph dumped him and if he had moved on with Melanie, that would have been okay. They agreed to be friends, but there were clearly still feelings between them.
Rafe surprised Sami with a picnic in the living room. Roman called Sami with information about Meredith. He revealed she was staying at the Salem Inn, then asked Sami why she wanted to know about this woman. Sami wouldn't answer, then hung up quickly when Rafe came back in the room with S'mores. They ate them, then Sami randomly rushed out to the Pub, saying she needed to pick something up from Caroline. After Sami left, Roman arrived. Rafe said she was out. Roman said he had questions that needed answers.... At the pier, Sami approached Meredith.
Tuesday
At the townhouse, Rafe told Roman that Sami wasn't home, but added that Sami had received a call a little while ago. He asked Roman if that was him and Roman said yes. Rafe revealed that Sami had lied that it was a wrong number. He asked if Roman was hiding something from him. Roman suggested he ask Sami that and left. Rafe called the Pub to see if Sami was there, but Caroline told him she wasn't. He knew Sami's sudden exit had something to do with Emily.
Sami ran into Meredith on the pier and said she was happy to see her because she wanted to talk to her about Emily. Meredith was a little creeped out. Sami insisted that she wasn't a stalker. They chatted about Emily. Meredith indicated that she and her sister were very close until Emily hooked up with Rafe. Sami asked what happened, but Meredith said she couldn't talk about it and ran off. Sami returned home. Rafe asked her about her visit to the Pub. Sami lied that it was good. Rafe pressed and asked why she was lying to him.
At the station, Bo and Hope tried to calm a riled up Daniel. Dan insisted that Kate was responsible for Chloe's poisoning. They put him in the interrogation room. Hope asked Bo if he thought Kate could have done it. He pointed out that she had done some awful things to Sami. Hope officially questioned Daniel. He insisted he and Chloe were in love and that Kate was to blame for Chloe's coma.
Abe came to the station and asked how the situation with Daniel was going. Bo said he didn't think Daniel did it. Abe warned him that he had already gotten questions from reporters and the state's attorney general about how Bo was going to handle things. Abe warned him that his "ass is on the line." Bo was angry that Abe implied that Bo would let his personal connection to Daniel get in the way of his objectivity. "Fire me," Bo seethed. Abe said there was no talk of firing him, but warned him that appearances mattered. A cop brought over a forensics report. Bo clucked that it wasn't good for Daniel: Only his fingerprints were on the drug vial.
Kate talked to Chloe in her hospital room and urged her daughter-in-law to die. She approached her IV and touched the tube, intending to do Chloe in. Lexie caught her in the act. Kate covered that she thought she saw a bubble in the IV. Lexie asked her to leave. Kate walked out just as Victor arrived. Turns out Philip sent him there. Kate reported that Chloe was in a coma, then asked him for an antacid. He asked what happened but Kate was evasive. Vic realized Kate wasn't telling him the whole story. She gave him a brief recap. He suspected Kate had something to do with Chloe's condition. She didn't deny it. They spied Nathan Horton and introduced themselves. Kate asked for an update on Chloe. Nate revealed that Doc Jonas thought he had an antidote for the poison, then took off. "She was poisoned?" Vic smirked. Kate asked him to go home, but he chuckled that he wasn't going anywhere. He promised to keep her secret, then asked how she planned to keep Lucas and the cops at bay. Kate said she didn't do anything that would necessitate that. Bo called Victor and said he needed the name of a good criminal lawyer because they were about to arrest Daniel. A livid Victor phoned his lawyer, then told Kate he wouldn't let his godson go down for her crime. Lucas came in and asked what was going on. "Are you going to tell him, Kate, or should I?" Victor asked.
Wednesday
Abe and Bo locked horns over what to do with Daniel. Abe called Lexie for an update, but she couldn't tell him much, except that Lucas was back. Bo noted that Lucas should be questioned. In the interrogation room, Hope continued her questioning of the frustrated doc. Bo came in and sent Hope on another lead. He talked to Daniel off the record and hinted to Daniel that he believed him. After a lineup with the pharmacist, which was inconclusive, Abe told Bo that the DA wanted to press attempted murder charges against Daniel. Bo was uncertain, but Abe ordered him to book Daniel as soon as he was back from the lineup. Daniel returned and Bo was forced to arrest him. After Dr. J was hauled off, Bo told Abe that they had just made a big mistake.
At the hospital, Victor told Kate he would not let her frame his godson. Lucas hurried in and Kate told him that Chloe was in a coma. He was stunned, especially to hear that Daniel did it. Vic defended Dan. Philip came over to support his brother. Kate offered to sit in Chloe's room with Lucas, but he said no because both Kate and Victor had said horrible things about his wife. Philip rejoined his parents and said he couldn't understand why Daniel would harm Chloe. Vic and Kate then talked alone. Vic pointed out that based on Lucas's reaction, Lucas would believe that Kate poisoned Chloe. Kate began to cry, but Victor wasn't moved. Philip came back over and sensed that something was up between his parents. Victor explained that they were arguing over Daniel. Kate dropped the bomb that Chloe and Daniel had an affair. Philip was shocked. He went back into Chloe's room. Victor toyed with Kate, then greeted Hope when she came in. He told his daughter-in-law that he was certain that Daniel was innocent. Hope noted he could be a character witness. Victor escorted Kate to the park and explained that he didn't care what she did to Chloe, but she had to get Daniel off the hook. "Fix this, Kate," he ordered. "Or you're facing prison — or worse."
Lucas vowed to Chloe that she would be okay. While at her bedside, he missed her move a little. Hope came in to ask him some questions. Lucas was annoyed, but Hope said she was just following protocol. He said he understood and would turn over his boarding pass to clear him. Hope asked if Lucas had ever been in Daniel's apartment. He said he had, with Chloe, and that they found a woman's scarf on the floor. Lucas asked if Daniel was a suspect, noting that if he was, it didn't make sense.
Kate returned to the hospital. Hope warned her that she couldn't keep Daniel and Chloe's affair a secret forever. Hope returned to the station and caught up with Bo. Victor arrived at the station to talk to Bo. He asked his son if it was true that Daniel was being booked. Bo said the DA insisted. Bo asked if Victor knew who was really responsible for Chloe's coma. "No, I have no idea at all," Vic lied.
Kate and Philip discussed telling Lucas the truth about Daniel and Chloe. Kate wanted Philip to do it. Lucas walked in on their discussion and demanded to know what they were talking about. Kate tried to excuse herself, but Lucas insisted she stay. Kate revealed that Chloe had betrayed him and Philip added that Chloe had an affair with Daniel. A stunned Lucas returned to Chloe's room. "How could you?" he whispered.
Rafe pushed Sami to tell him why she was lying about where she had been. She snapped that it was none of his business. He asked if she was snooping around in his past, which led to an argument about his secretive nature. She urged him to trust her and tell her the truth about who he really was. As a show of faith, Sami recounted her whole questionable past, from shooting Alan in the groin to being on death row to getting together with EJ. When she was done, she asked about his life. He still didn't want to answer and they argued. He finally broke down, explaining that on the day he and Emily were to be married, he drove too fast with Emily in the car and they wound up hitting a tree. "I killed her," he said softly. Sami pointed out that it was an accident, but he didn't want her making excuses for him. After, he walked out, leaving a teary Sami behind.
Thursday
Mia informed Nicole that Chad bought her story about rehab and didn't know about baby Sydney. Nicole was relieved to hear this and hoped that EJ didn't suspect anything. "My husband and my daughter are my whole life. They're all I have and I can't lose them," Nicole stated. She vowed to make sure that never happened.
Meantime, Chad — wearing a numbered sports shirt — worked out at Salem Health and thought about Mia. He became angry as he noticed Will at the gym. He was interrupted when Kinsey approached him. He asked her not to cause any drama. She noted that he was upset because Will had something he wants: Mia. He replied that she has feelings for Will and encouraged her to go for it. After, she said hello to Will, but he wanted to get back to his workout. Kinsey apologized for being jealous of Mia; she agreed to say she's sorry to Mia. Mia then entered the gym and Chad apologized for not believing that she'd been in rehab. She noted that he has trust issues. When Mia said that she was there to meet Will, Chad pointed out that he was talking to Kinsey. Mia went over to Will; Kinsey tried to play nice, but Mia wasn't interested in being friends. Will suggested that maybe Kinsey isn't as bad as they thought. Kinsey joined Chad and reported that things went well with Chad. Later, Will left after getting a notice that something was going on with Lucas and Chloe. Chad informed Mia that he'll be going to school in Salem.
At he DiMera mansion, Nicole returned home and found EJ holding Sydney. He feared that he'd lose something important; Nicole implored him to tell him why he was so worried about something that hadn't happened. Stefano interrupted them and wondered what was going on. Nicole admitted that something was "horribly wrong" and that she had a feeling that something awful would happen. Stefano joked about how she's not an optimist and asked her to tell him what's going on. She admitted that she doesn't quite know what's wrong yet, though she's been kind of jumpy. She believed that something relating to their family was bugging EJ; Stefano implored her to stop acting so suspiciously. Later, Stefano asked his son what was going on between him and Nicole, but EJ denied that anything was wrong. Stefano didn't believe him and wanted to help. EJ gave in and and said that he loves his wife and daughter, but can't stop thinking about Sami.
Sami demanded that Arianna help her find Rafe. Ari replied that she thought Rafe was with Sami. Sami realized where he was.... At the cemetery, Rafe sat and spoke to Emily's grave. Sami found him, but he wasn't pleased to see her, telling her that she shouldn't have come. Sami asked him not to judge himself for Em's death and wanted to stand by him. They declared their love for each other. He became unnerved, though, when Sami revealed that she met Em's sister, Meredith, and left.
Meanwhile, Ari went to look for Rafe, but was harassed by a guy named Troy in the park. Brady grabbed him and kept punching him, but Arianna begged him to calm down. Brady did, but disagreed that she didn't need help. She was touched when he promised to be there for her if she needed help. He then confided that he's upset because his ex-wife, Chloe, is in the hospital. He
admitted that he has feelings for Ari; she declared Brady "wonderful." He concluded that she didn't want to get involved with him since he was a recovering addict and asked for a chance to prove himself to her. They then kissed passionately. Ari finally agreed to go out with him. Later, Ari gave Troy cash for a mysterious package.
Sami ran into Nicole, who was outside taking a walk with Sydney. The women were actually cordial toward one another, but Nicole became alarmed when Sami informed her that things weren't going so well with Rafe. Nicole assured her that things would work out. After Sami stepped away, Nicole wondered aloud if Stefano made it happen. She came home and called out for Stefano, but EJ told him that he sent his father away. He then gave her the bad news about Chloe. Nicole was devastated; EJ urged her to lean on him for support. They embraced.
Rafe paid Meredith a visit and she accused him of killing her sister. Rafe insisted that Emily's death was an accident, but Meredith didn't buy it. "We both know it was an act," she stated as she recalled Rafe's grief. "Your sister was my life; I loved her," he argued. "To death," Mer spat. She asked if he was involved with Sami and he confirmed it. Meredith taunted him about his past coming back to haunt him. He repeated that he's fallen in love and is moving on with his life. Sami was thrilled when he came home. He promised that he'd always love her.... Meredith thanked Stefano for arranging her return to Salem.
Friday
Kate stood over Chloe's bedside urging her to let go and die, while Will questioned Brady about why Chloe was there. Kate emerged and announced that Chloe was very ill, because somebody tried to kill her: Daniel. Kate explained that Daniel was in love with Chloe. Will assumed that Chloe rejected him. Kate said Chloe was in love with Daniel, too, which shocked and disappointed Will. Will hoped Daniel stayed in jail and paid for what he did. Kate noted that Daniel and his lawyer would put up a fight.
Nicole arrived to visit Chloe and was devastated to see her comatose pal. She thanked Chloe for her friendship, but admitted she didn't deserve it after all the horrible things she'd done. Then, Nicole sobbed and confessed all of them — her miscarriage, making a deal with Mia, switching Sami and Mia's baby ... Nicole talked about Grace's death and how Sami didn't know Sydney was really her child. Chloe squeezed Nicole's hand, and Nicole ran out to tell Maxine. Maxine checked Chloe, noting it was just an involuntary muscle twitch. Maxine urged Nicole to keep talking to Chloe, noting she might even hear what she was saying. Nicole sat on Chloe's bed and told her she loved her. Brady walked in and he and Nicole hugged. Nicole wondered what she would do if Chloe didn't make it. Who would she talk to? Brady assured Nicole she had him.
A guard arrived at Daniel's cell, noting his lawyer was there, and let Lucas in. Lucas confronted Daniel about sleeping with Chloe and called her a whore. Daniel slugged him and a fight ensued. The guard returned to see what all the commotion was about. Daniel said he and his lawyer were having a disagreement. Daniel explained he went after Chloe, but she resisted because she loved Lucas. Lucas's memories came flooding back as he recounted Chloe breaking off their engagement, his subsequent drunken binge, and going over to Daniel's apartment to confront him when the explosion happened. Lucas wondered why Chloe married him. Daniel explained Chloe's pact with God to stay with Lucas if he survived and swore he and Chloe weren't together again after that. Daniel swore he let Chloe go because he loved her and insisted he didn't try to kill her. When Lucas asked who did, Daniel revealed it was his mother, Kate.
Stefano arrived at Meredith's door to explain why he brought her to Salem. His corporation awarded grants in many fields and the hospital where Meredith was administrator had been doing wonderful things. Meredith noted that Stefano could have just wired her money, instead of flying her to Salem. Stefano assumed Meredith would be happy to come back home. Meredith admitted she wasn't and mentioned Emily's death. Stefano asked if Emily died in Salem. Meredith said no , but that the man responsible for her death lived in Salem. Meredith began talking about Emily and Rafe. She noted how Emily moved to Virginia with Rafe, when he joined the FBI, and how her sister learned a terrible secret about Rafe on their wedding day. She didn't believe the car wreck that killed Emily as an accident. Meredith believed Rafe killed Emily, but claimed she'd moved on and stopped trying to get justice. "For Justice it is never too late," responded Stefano, noting there was someone who should know what Rafe had done.
After some smooching, Sami asked Rafe where he went after visiting Emily's grave. Rafe admitted he went to see Meredith. "I know she blames you for her sister's death," noted Sami. "She's right," confessed Rafe. Sami insisted it was an accident and that Emily wouldn't want Rafe blaming himself. Later, up in their bedroom, Rafe professed his love for Sami, noting she was his hero and she taught him how to live again. Sami went on about Rafe being there for her and her kids through everything. "I love you, and you are definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me," swore Sami. Later, while Sami slept, Rafe remembered back to the day Emily died.
