Monday
Rafe went to the Brady Pub to talk to Arianna and revealed that Grace was actually Sami's bio daughter. He told her EJ was the father, which made Ari realize she probably would have kept mum, too. She still worried that the situation between him and Sami reminded her of "everything that happened before." He got angry and asked her to give him a little credit.
Sami told Will that Grace was her biological daughter and Grace's biological father was EJ. He freaked out, noting that Sami never would have told him the truth if Grace hadn't died. She says she would have kept the secret forever if she could. She told him that Lucas knows the truth, too. He was angry and went to leave. Rafe came in. Will blew past him, saying he'd be back for his stuff later. Rafe tried to comfort Sami, but she said it would be best if he left. He was heartbroken, noting that he thought they would get through Grace's death together, but he realized he might be a reminder of what she lost. Sami said she didn't want him to go and told him she loved him so much. They hugged.
On the pier, Will ran into Mia, who was carrying a bag. She explained that she was moving into Maggie's place and not a moment too soon because her cousin was fighting with her new, mean boyfriend. Will said she was lucky to be able to get away from the people she hated. Mia asked if something else happened besides Grace dying. Will said that yes, Sami lied to him about Grace and he wasn't sure he could ever forgive her. She asked if he was going to leave Salem. He said no, he would stick around. She kissed him on the cheek and told him she was glad.
A dejected, stricken EJ came home to the manse and told Nicole that Sami revealed Grace was his. "Oh, my God, Sami told you?" she asked. "You knew?" he replied. "No!" Nicole quickly covered. EJ told her about Sami's admission, then went to check on Sydney. Stefano entered and Nicole filled him in about what had transpired. Stefano advised her to remain cool and insisted that Sydney was hers and she needed to believe it. EJ brought the baby in and reported that Sydney had hit a special milestone. Nicole was thrilled, then apologized for acting so exuberant when he had missed so many firsts with Grace. He told her he was sorry for getting upset when Nicole said he still had feelings for Sami. He said the truth was that he did have feelings for Sami, but now all he has for her now is utter hatred. "Will you forgive me? I'm sorry for ever hurting you," he said softly, then took Nic in his arms. She said of course she forgave him. He added that he realized she and Sydney were the most important things in his life. "You would never lie to me. You don't put your own interests first — you never have. You put our child's interests first." "And I always will," Nicole replied. Gulp!
Steph was jumpy when Philip approached her on the terrace at the estate. Victor came in and said he needed to speak to his son. He told him that Owen had escaped and it was probably thanks to the DiMeras. Philip was furious. Victor explained to Phil that Steph had to lie to the cops about EJ's connection to the kidnapping so they could call a truce with the DiMeras.... Bo and Hope ate at the Brady Pub. Bo learned that Owen was able to escape from the police transfer van. Bo called Steph to tell her. Melanie and Brady came in and Steph told them what happened. They assured her Owen wouldn't come to the mansion with all the security in place. Bo and Hope arrived and questioned Brady. Phil revealed to Steph and Mel that Victor wanted a truce with the DiMeras and the girls needed to lie to the cops about EJ and Owen. Mel said fine. Steph said no way. Philip warned that if she didn't lie, Stefano would come after them with a vengeance. "If you want that, fine, go for it," he said calmly. Steph gave in and lied to her aunt and uncle about what went down with Owen. She was clearly not thrilled. After, Philip promised her that there would be no more secrets or lies. She had a doctor's appointment. He offered to drive her. During her talk with the psychiatrist, Stephanie admitted that she had trouble sleeping and was having nightmares. The doctor prescribed anti-anxiety meds, but Steph didn't want to take them. Victor tracked Philip down and told him the meeting with the DiMeras would be tomorrow on Pier 16. Steph approached during their plan making.
Brady returned to the Kiriakis mausoleum to visit his mother. Arianna appeared and told him she saw him and thought she'd say hello. He said he had no problem with her staying. He explained that the flowers he was carrying were for Isabella. Melanie appeared to talk to Brady. Ari excused herself. Mel noted that Brady had the hots for Ari. In the graveyard, Arianna left flowers at the grave of a woman named Emily Hudson.
The Bradys returned to the Pub, sure that Steph had lied to them to bring the DiMera/Kiriakis feud to an end. Bo worried for his niece, who he said was in "deeper than she knows."
Tuesday
Nicole ran into Brady at Java Café. He pointed out that she wasn't the only one lying about having EJ's baby. He asked what was going to happen when EJ learned the truth about Nicole's baby switch. She insisted she and EJ were closer than ever and her marriage was solid. He warned her that one wrong move and she'll be the next Sami. She wasn't concerned.
Philip and Victor met with EJ on the docks. EJ said he wanted to have a fresh start. Victor and Philip said they wanted Owen brought to justice. They asked where Stefano was. Victor pointed out that it was unlikely Stefano was going to agree to an all-out truce. The Phoenix arrived. "See, Victor, unlike you, I trust my son to make some decisions for my family," he said. EJ asked for an official truce between him and Philip. Stefano pulled EJ aside to talk about it, but EJ was determined to put it all past them. They split up the Salem territory, then he and Philip shook hands and agreed to the truce.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Stephanie came onto the terrace and found a set table with flowers and a handwritten note from Philip saying he was out. She saw Owen and told him to leave her alone. Turns out, she had imagined the whole encounter. Henderson came out and broke her reverie. She hurriedly popped some anti-anxiety meds.
Melanie visited Max at the Pub to talk to him about his London trip. He revealed that he planned to stay abroad. She whined that he couldn't leave and got weepy. He pointed out that she had friends now. She referenced what happened with Owen, Philip and Stephanie, which Max was unaware of. An alarmed Max asked if Stephanie was okay. She said she was, then left for work. Steph arrived to talk to Max. He told Steph that he was worried about her. She insisted she was fine. They talked about his move to England. Steph said she was happy for him and Chelsea. She headed back to the manse. Philip came home. She asked why he left so early, but he was evasive. Henderson brought him a note. Steph asked what it was, but he said it was just business. "I don't believe you," Steph replied and grabbed the note from him.
Maggie got Mia settled in her house. Mia felt the home was too nice for her and told Maggie that she had done things Maggie wouldn't approve of. Maggie had a heart to heart with her. Melanie returned home and cracked to Maggie that it was "Maggie Horton's Home For Wayward Girls" now that Mia was living there. Mel complained that she had to share a bathroom. Maggie shut her down and told her she needed to be more grateful for what she had. Melanie said she was just jealous and didn't want to share Maggie. Maggie hugged her and assured her nobody would take her place in Maggie's heart. Maggie asked if she had turned in her nursing school application. Not yet, Mel replied, then took the form and considered it. She went to the hospital and got chewed out for being late from her boss, a nurse. Mel told her that she was dropping off her nursing school application and the nurse warned her that school was tough and Melanie probably wouldn't make it. "Well, thank you, Mrs. Supportive," Mel snarked. She went over to the book cart and saw a pamphlet about London. The nurse came over and told her to shake a leg. Melanie quit.
Mia went to the Java Café. Brady pointed out to Nicole that Mia was always hanging around with Will, which was too close for comfort to Sami. Brady took a call. Mia approached Nic and thanked her for getting her in to hold Grace before she died. Mia noted that she felt a connection to Grace that she didn't with Sydney. Brady returned. Mia went to talk to the manager about getting a job there. Once alone, Brady warned Nic that she was still playing with fire by lying to EJ.
EJ and Stefano returned home and EJ was freaking out about Sami lying to him about Grace. Stefano tried to calm him down, noting that Nicole was the better choice, anyway. EJ agreed, extolling Nicole's virtues. EJ pulled out some papers and handed them to his father. "I have a plan," he announced regarding Sami. "She's never going to know what hit her."
Wednesday
After quitting, Melanie ran into a cute guy at the hospital. He was looking for the administration offices. She was a little tongue tied, but sent him in the right direction. Brady spied the exchange and teased her for already falling for the new guy. She said she was excited because she was moving to London. He was surprised, then told her she had good reasons for staying in Salem — she had friends and she was starting nursing school. He had to go to a hospital board meeting and told her not to leave town without talking to him. After, she asked her boss, the nurse, who the guy she ran into was, unaware that he was behind her. Awkward! She introduced herself. He said his name was Nathan and he had just arrived from out of town. He got a call and took off. Maggie arrived to bring Melanie her wallet, which she had left on the kitchen counter.
At Java Café, Kate and her assistant Chris discussed getting Daniel on HOME & HEARTH. She wanted him to dig up dirt on Doc Jonas and came down hard on him, which got him flustered. Chris emailed a contact and got some info, which pleased Kate.
Daniel took a run in the park. He ran into Chloe and she imagined making out with him. She then told him she heard he pulled out of her TV segment. She explained that she had pulled herself together and that she and Lucas had made up. "Things are fine between us," she said. She got teary and thanked Daniel for being there for her when she needed him the most. They had an emotional good-bye and shook hands. After, Kate called him and asked him to meet her. While waiting, Kate fantasized about visiting Chloe's grave. Daniel came in and asked why she was so happy. Kate said she had an offer for him that he couldn't refuse about the TV show. She said she would match his generous salary and donate the money to the breast cancer charity of his choice in memory of his late wife, Rebecca. He said he never told her Rebecca had breast cancer. She played it off. He grilled Kate about why she was so determined to put him on TV with Chloe knowing everything she knew. She said she didn't want bitterness destroying her life and she was trying to get past it all. He still said no. She explained that they would be doing medical segments about breast cancer, too, that he could be a part of. She advised him to think about it, then left. Maggie, who overheard some of the discussion, approached Daniel and asked if he was really considering it. "She's got me in a box," he lamented. Maggie said Kate could be a handful, but perhaps he should concentrate on what good could come out of it. He called Kate and accepted her offer. She was thrilled and asked him to meet her at Victor's house. She held her bottle of poison and said it would all be over soon.
Chloe went to church and prayed. Father Matt approached her. She was crying and said she couldn't stop thinking about a man who wasn't her husband. She wept that she would never be over Daniel and was more in love with him than ever. He counseled her that fantasies were not reality.
Stephanie read the note she snatched from Philip. "The new car for Miss Stephanie has been delivered and is parked in the driveway," it read. He explained it was for her college graduation. She began to cry because she had ruined his surprise with her paranoia. Philip assured her that everything was okay and she didn't ruin anything. She went to see the car, but was overwhelmed by how expensive it was. He remarked her it was energy efficient and she'd be doing the environment a favor. She laughed and accepted his extravagant gift. He then told her that he brokered a truce with the DiMeras and she could rest easy. He excused himself. She popped a pill. He brought back champagne and they had some. She got a buzz from the pill and booze combo and began seducing him on the terrace. Brady walked in on them, saying he was looking for Victor. Philip told his nephew about the deal with the DiMeras, then got a call and had to take it in the other room. Brady and Steph discussed Grace's funeral, which was later that day. Brady revealed that the baby was actually Sami's biological daughter and she kept it quiet because the father was EJ's. Steph visibly recoiled. He asked if she was okay. She said she shouldn't have any more champagne. Brady mentioned that EJ might be at the funeral and perhaps she couldn't go. Philip returned and told her he had to go to Chicago and couldn't go to the funeral. Steph was insistent that she would attend.
Melanie went home and found a shirtless Nathan in the kitchen. They were surprised to see each other. She asked what he was doing in her house.
Thursday
Sami read about Grace's memorial service in the paper. Rafe took the paper away from her and urged her to eat. She said she couldn't. They cried together and hugged. Roman came to console her. He didn't exactly give Rafe a warm reception, clearly blaming Rafe for Sami not coming clean about Grace's true lineage. Sami went to check on Johnny. Alone, Rafe told Roman he worried EJ would show up at the funeral and make things worse for Sami. Sami returned and asked Rafe if he could answer some questions Father Matt had about Grace. He said he would handle it and left. Once alone, Roman asked why she never confided in him about being Grace's bio mom. She said he was so by the book that she couldn't. She began to pack up Grace's things. He said he could do that with her grandmother and give them to a rookie cop at work who just had a baby.
At the DiMera mansion, a disconsolate EJ read the paper while Nicole and Stefano looked in on him from the foyer. Nicole felt guilty for letting him grieve for a child that wasn't his. Nicole went into the living room, took EJ in her arms and told him he had to stop grieving like he was. She pointed out that he had never bonded with the baby. "Does that mean I shouldn't grieve?" he asked. "Does that mean she didn't matter?" He warned his wife to be careful what she said to him, adding that he was also grieving the fact that he never had a chance to spend any time with Grace. "Samantha's going to be sorry. Very sorry. For the rest of her life," he vowed. He showed her some papers he planned to serve Sami. EJ wanted to bring Sydney with him to the service, but Nicole put her foot down and said no. Stefano came in and told them he wasn't going to the funeral. EJ looked dejected. Stefano explained that it was too soon after Tony's death, plus he couldn't face the Bradys. He revealed that he sent a condolence card to Samantha, then picked up Sydney and said he'd rather focus on EJ and Nicole's perfect, beautiful daughter.
At Java Café, Mia told her boss, Evan, that she would have to leave work on her first day to attend the funeral. Will overheard her say she was willing to be fired and said she didn't have to come for his sake. Evan said it was okay for her to go. She apologized for getting mouthy with him. Mia then asked Will where his tie was. He said it was at the townhouse, but since he was avoiding Sami, he couldn't go home. She was horrified to hear how many messages Sami had left for him that were unreturned. Kinsey came in and was needling Mia about Mia's ex, Chad. Mia dropped a cup at the sound of his name. Will came over and chastised Kinsey, noting that he and Mia were going to his sister's funeral and didn't have time for her nonsense. Kinsey went to complain to Evan, but Will stepped in. After, Mia told him to go get his tie. She and Kinsey faced off again about Chad.
Sami lamented to Roman that Will would never forgive her. Will came home to find Roman and Sami there. He headed straight for his room, saying he had to get his tie. Roman called after him. He said hi and kept going. Johnny came out and gave Sami a big hug. Roman said they had to get going to the church.
Melanie was shocked to find Nathan shirtless in the Horton kitchen. He swiped her phone, which led to some playful banter. He grabbed a doughnut. Melanie told them to put it down because they were for a hospital luncheon. Maggie came in and was happy to see they had met. Nathan called her Grandma. Mel was surprised. Maggie explained that Nathan was doing an internship at the hospital and they'd be seeing a lot of each other. Melanie dropped the bomb that she was moving to London with Max. Maggie was sad. The women got teary. "I hope you're going to something and not running away," Maggie noted. She said it was too bad Mel and Nathan weren't going to get to know each other better and pointed out that they both lived in France. Mel grabbed a doughnut. Nathan brushed some powdered sugar off of her face. "A practice move if I ever saw one," teased Maggie. An embarrassed Nathan made his exit. Maggie asked Mel when she was moving. She smiled that there was no rush. After, Melanie went to the hospital, found her boss and tried to "unquit."
At the church, Bo and Hope were reminded of Zack. Hope looked at a photo of Grace and prayed for Zack to look after her. Hope noted that it was important for them to be there so Sami could see that she can get through it. Rafe came in. Bo went to check on security. A compassionate Hope told Rafe about Zack and said she knew what he was going through. Alone in the church, Rafe broke down at the altar in tears and frustration. Father Matt came in and asked if he was okay. Rafe said he didn't know. He then admitted that he wasn't sure if he could forgive God for letting Grace die.
Caroline visited Stephanie at the Kiriakis mansion. She was worried for her granddaughter's safety in the wake of Owen's escape. Steph said she was fine. Caroline suggested she not attend the service, but Steph insisted she was going to go. "I'm going to look EJ right in the eye and let him know that I'm not scared," she declared.
Nicole and EJ arrived at the church. He spied a photo of Grace, noting that was all he had of his daughter. Sami came in with Roman. A tense moment ensued.
Friday
At the church, EJ tried to approach Sami, but Roman stopped him, as did Bo. He said he wouldn't dream of disrespecting his daughter's service. After, Nicole comforted him. He said he didn't know there was pain like this. Inside, Father Matt tried to talk to an angry, grief-stricken Rafe. Will came in and sassed Sami. Roman told him it wasn't the time. Sami said it was okay and went inside with Roman. Bo told Will that Sami needed his support. Inside, Sami and Rafe looked over all of the floral arrangements that had been sent for Grace. Rafe assured Sami that Grace would always be with them.
Will told Mia about EJ and how he was Grace's father. Will said he understood why Sami wouldn't want her child growing up in the DiMera manse. EJ spied Mia and recognized her from his and Nicole's wedding. He asked his wife why she was there. Nicole covered that Mia and Will were pals and she sometimes babysat for Grace. "That's great. A complete stranger knows my daughter better than I do," he said. Nicole left him alone to pray. He really made a call saying he was giving Sami the papers soon. Stephanie came in and confronted EJ. He pointed out that it was his daughter's funeral, but she didn't care. He said she should remember she is lucky to be alive. She slapped him, just as Philip walked in. "Don't you ever think about threatening me again," she said. "I know what you are, and I know what should be done to you." EJ spoke to her sharply and told her to exercise some control. He went inside. Steph apologized to Philip, but he didn't need an apology; he understood that EJ should be in jail.
Caroline assured Sami that nobody blamed her for the Grace situation. Nicole comforted Mia. She got up and ran into Brady and Arianna. Ari excused hersef. Brady quietly pointed out to Nicole that there should have been a service for the baby she lost. She got teary-eyed. Roman warned EJ that he would not hesitate to turn in his badge and deal with EJ with no rules or mercy if EJ harmed another member of his family.
Brady hugged Sami and told her he was sorry for what happened and understood why she made the choices she did.... Arianna apologized to Rafe for being so harsh with him.... The service began. Caroline read a bible passage. Will told a story about his siblings. Father Matt asked if anyone else wanted to share a memory. EJ stood up. He said he had no memories of Grace, but had something he wanted to say. At the pulpit, EJ made a heartfelt, pointed speech and chided Sami and Rafe: "I trust you'll take some comfort in the memories that you have of my daughter... I never even held her." After, Mia sang "Amazing Grace," which brought tears from the crowd. Caroline joined in, as did everyone as Sami sobbed on Rafe's shoulder. The congregation went to take communion; Sami stayed in her pew. EJ came up behind her and whispered in her ear, "You've been to confession, Samantha. Your sins have been absolved." Everyone left colored roses in a basket for the baby. Mia had to go back to work but told Will that Grace wouldn't want him to be mad at Sami. The service ended. Steph approached EJ and said, "It was really heartwarming to hear you talk about how much you love your children and to see you make a woman who's already burying her child feel even worse. Just had to twist the knife again, huh?" To Nicole, she added, "Next time you see him hold your child, remember the blood on his hands." EJ warned Philip to control his woman. After, EJ was upset that Sami had the temerity to name Grace after Rafe (her middle name is Rafaela). Nicole tried to say something, then thought better of it and kept mum. Everyone left the church except for Sami, Rafe, EJ and Nicole. Nicole went to the vestibule. Father Matt told her that the nuns from the convent of the Holy Cross had finally arrived after dealing with a flat tire. Nicole panicked that she would be recognized. Inside, EJ handed Sami papers. "It's a court order. He's taking Johnny from me," she told Rafe. "Just like you took my daughter from me. An eye for an eye, Samantha," EJ replied.
Max visited Melanie at the hospital. He told her was withdrawing from med school because he was going to London. She revealed that she was staying in Salem and going to nursing school. Nathan approached them. Melanie introduced him to Max and noted that Max was the one going to London. "And you're, uh, voluntarily taking her with you?" Nathan cracked. Max revealed that Mel was staying put. Melanie explained it was because Maggie was pulling strings to get her into the nursing program. Nathan took off. Max turned on his sis. "Melanie, are you freakin' kidding me? Really?" he exclaimed. He teased her for staying behind for a cute boy. She said she didn't want to ruin Max's life in London while he was trying to make things work with Chelsea. He gave her an open ticket to London so she could visit at any time. She was thrilled.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Stephanie spied the newspaper headline about Owen's escape and popped more pills.
Chad, Mia's ex, visited her at the Java Café. "Long time, no see," he said.
