Monday
Ava and Nicole sipped iced coffee while they tried to figure out where they could go for fun. They decided to go back to Ava's hotel to take advantage of the flock of available men hanging around for a fitness convention. In Ava's suite, they mixed a couple of cocktails and entertained two willing visitors. While Nicole danced with her date, she kept thinking about the kiss she shared with EJ. Meanwhile, Ava's mind was on John. The girls soon got tired of their boy toys and asked them to leave. They both admitted that hanging with random men wasn't what they needed. Ava told Nicole she had her eye on John. She said she didn't want to mess around with him, because he was still married to Marlena, but Nicole encouraged her to go for it.
At the coffee shop, Nick, Stephanie and Max waited for a book reading. Max was visibly upset by something, and Nick urged Max to say what was on his mind. Max said it wasn't a big deal, but his mood got worse when he realized the guest author was Dean Robbins. Nick asked what his deal was, but before Max could leave, Dean Robbins walked over and said hello to the trio. Max suffered through the dean's presentation, then told Stephanie and Nick he wanted to leave immediately. When they walked out, Max went back inside the coffee shop to confront Dean Robbins. When he called the dean a fraud, Robbins told him he was mistaken. Max didn't back down, telling Robins why he thought his book and his theories were full of crap. Max added that he would soon tell the university as well as the town that he was a fake.
Chelsea stopped by to see Victor. While she waited, she began fantasizing about making love to Daniel. When Victor entered, Chelsea snapped out of it and asked if he could pull strings to get her a job at the hospital. Victor agreed, and decided to ask Daniel to get Chelsea the job.
At the hospital, Kate told Daniel she'd been having abdominal pains. Before they could finish discussing her condition, Victor and Chelsea showed up. They were worried about Kate, but she said she'd be fine. While Kate asked for a moment alone with Chelsea, Victor asked Daniel what was going on with Kate. Daniel said he didn't know anything yet, but even if he did, he couldn't share it with him. Victor said Kate needed to be cared for, because Chelsea needed her. Meanwhile, Kate told Chelsea it wasn't a good idea for her to work in the hospital with Daniel after what happened between them. Chelsea said she knew Daniel wasn't interested because of their age difference, and that she wanted to move on and do something worthwhile.
At the DiMera mansion, Bo and Hope showed up with a search warrant. Bo was reluctant to leave Hope alone with John while he went to search the master suite, but Hope said she'd be fine. While alone with Hope, John brought up the time they'd had an affair, but Hope said she didn't want to talk about it. Hope said it was inappropriate for him to bring up, and that she was in love with her husband. John told Hope he needed to know if he was being investigated because she had a personal ax to grind. Hope said the investigation had nothing to do with what happened between them. John asked her to tell him the story of what happened, but Hope refused until John threatened to ask Bo. Hope finally explained what happened. John was satisfied knowing that their affair had been hot, even though Hope didn't exactly admit it. When Bo returned, he said he hadn't found anything. John told him if he wanted to crack the case, he needed to speak with Philip. John said he had proof that Philip framed him.
Tuesday
John got a call from Ava, accepting his dinner invitation. Upon hanging up, he found Paul and asked if he planted the drugs on his ship. Morgan entered and listened as Paul swore he didn't. He wouldn't take that kind of risk. John said it would be a big mistake if Paul was lying to him. Morgan interrupted, and Paul said he was thanking John for helping him become a free man. John said Paul would be back in his old job in no time. Morgan preferred her father found a less stressful job and told John to stay away from him. When John left, Paul assured Morgan he could take care of himself.
Chloe carted her suitcases downstairs and handed Philip the mansion key, prepared to move out. Philip begged her to keep it. "So I can come in for midnight booty calls?" asked Chloe, certain Victor wouldn't approve. Philip insisted Chloe keep the key and asked if they were still on for dinner. Chloe said yes, and they kissed. Philip got a call informing him there were brain waves on the disc he swiped from John. Morgan barged in, noting she had nowhere else to go and that John needed to be stopped. She was worried about her dad. In the middle of it, Philip got a call from Paul, saying John was onto him and demanding payment for planting the drugs. Philip hung up. Morgan prepared to leave, but Philip asked her to stay.
Lucas was on the phone telling someone he had cash. Sami overheard, and Lucas covered. They discussed Lucas' arrest and Allie's short stay with child services. Sami said she wanted to be a family with Lucas and Allie. Lucas said he wanted Sami, but not if EJ was part of the picture. There was nothing to discuss until he saw divorce papers. John walked in and asked for Sami's opinion on two colognes. He planned to wear one for his date. Sami pointed out John was married. John told Sami and Lucas he wanted privacy when his date arrived. The bell rang. Lucas opened the door and paid off someone, who handed him a package. Lucas opened it, used a gadget to remove his ankle monitor, and sneaked out. John had another run-in with Sami, who scolded him for dating. John explained he had "needs."
Sami found Chloe at the Java Café, saw her suitcases, and asked if Philip had tossed her out of the mansion. Chloe said she decided to move out and asked why Sami was being so mean. The subject of Brady and his drug habit came up. Chloe insisted she wanted Brady to get better. Sami wondered why Chloe wasn't in Europe fighting for him. Chloe said Brady wasn't coming back to her. Then, she encouraged Sami to make things work with Lucas. Sami remembered back to telling Lucas their love could survive anything. Later, Sami returned home and looked for Lucas. She found a bag with Lucas' ankle monitor inside and was stunned.
Back at the Kiriakis mansion, Philip offered Morgan a drink. Chloe wandered in and found the twosome all cozy. She left her key and took off. Morgan admitted she felt weird being with Philip, noting his girlfriend wouldn't approve. Philip asked if Morgan might want to go to dinner sometime. Chloe wandered alone at the docks, crying, while Lucas hid and watched.
Dean Robbins walked into the pub, and Stephanie complimented him on his speech. Max stormed in, asked Robbins what he was doing there, and demanded he get out. Robbins said he was there to see the man who had the audacity to discredit his book. "How is it a guy who pours beer for a living thinks he knows the first thing about scientific applications?" asked Robbins. Then, he left. Steph and Max went back and forth about Robbins. When Max headed to the bar, Steph sneaked upstairs. She returned with a picture she swiped from his room and asked who it was. Max admitted it was his real mom. Steph asked why Max was angry at Robbins. Max wouldn't say, but did tell Steph a bit about his mother. She suggested Max try to find her. Max said no. No matter, Steph was glad Max opened up to her, noting there were no more secrets between them.
Wednesday
Chelsea couldn't believe Daniel had no diagnosis of Kate's condition. Daniel noted doctors didn't always have the answers and failed, occasionally. A nurse arrived with Kate's test results. Chelsea told Daniel to get busy and cure her granny. Later, Kate told Daniel the pain meds he gave her worked and asked about Chelsea. Daniel said he'd scared her off.
At the pub, Stephanie apologized to Max for snooping in his room and said she knew something more was going on besides that picture of his mother. Max kept mum. Nick arrived with Dean Robbins. Steph pulled Nick aside and told him about Max's spat with the dean. Chelsea walked in and told Steph and Nick about Kate. Nick asked Robbins about his spat with Max. Robbins said Max wasn't a fan of his theories. Nick approached Max, and they squabbled about Robbins. Nick asked how Max knew enough to judge him. Max made up something and admitted changing some of Nick's work. Nick asked why Max hadn't come to him so they could work together. Then, Nick got it — Max didn't think Nick was good enough to work with him. Nick stormed off and told the dean he was returning the grant money. If anyone deserved credit for the proposal, it was Max.
Back at the hospital, Kate and Daniel discussed Chelsea. Kate didn't want her hurt. Daniel went on about "this girl" walking into his life and how it couldn't work out between them.
Chelsea interrupted. A nurse arrived and wheeled Kate off for tests. Daniel knew Chelsea was eager to lay into him, but noted it wasn't a good time. Chelsea said she realized Daniel didn't love her and left. Alone, Daniel admitted he actually did.
Lucas watched Chloe cry at the docks and called her cell phone. He apologized for what he said earlier and told her to stop crying over her problems with Philip. Chloe suggested she and Lucas form an alliance to watch each other's backs, since they were in the same boat. Lucas accepted. He then bumped into Paul, who thought he looked familiar. Lucas ran off.
Philip asked Morgan out to dinner. She didn't think Chloe would like that. Philip admitted he and Chloe had a history, but wasn't sure about a future. That's why he asked her for space. Morgan found Philip's explanation lame. Her phone rang and it was her dad, Paul, who freaked upon learning Morgan was with Philip. Morgan didn't get his concern. Philip was everything her dad told her to look for in a man — powerful, rich and well-educated. Soon, Philip got a call from Paul. Philip cut him off, as Morgan decided to leave. On her way out, she bumped into Chloe. Philip did damage control, telling Chloe he and Morgan were friends. Chloe was the one he wanted to be with. Then, Philip gave Chloe a passionate kiss.
Sami hid Lucas' ankle monitor as Rolf escorted Ava into the living room. Sami reminded John he was married. John reminded Sami that Marlena ran out on him and asked her to scat. Sami got a call from Roman, asking to talk to Lucas. Sami covered, saying he was upstairs with Allie. Roman said he was in the neighborhood and would stop by. Ava suggested not calling her evening with John a date, since he was married. John noted his relationship with Marlena was complicated and didn't mean anything to him. Marlena was in love with a man who no longer existed. John went on about his memory being stolen. Roman arrived as the twins started to cry, and Sami headed upstairs to help Lucas. John and Ava continued chatting. John admitted he was envious Ava had a sense of who she used to be. Ava wished she could forget the past. John made a toast to discovery and exploration. Then, he and Ava kissed. Ava asked for a tour of the mansion. John and Ava ran into Sami and Roman. Sami told Roman that John was betraying Marlena. Roman said he was there to see Lucas, just as Lucas appeared.
Thursday
Dean Robbins was stunned to learn Nick's pal, Max, developed his hypothesis. Max said he just cleaned up Nick's work. Nick swore he was giving the grant money back. Max said this was why he didn't tell Nick the truth. Nick and Max spat. Robbins urged Nick to review the changes. He doubted Max was capable of having made any significant impact on his work. Stephanie defended Max's smarts. Robbins disagreed. Max accused Robbins of basing his book on a phony hypothesis. Robbins threatened to call the cops if Max harassed him again. Nick suggested he and Max talk privately. Kayla arrived and Steph told her about Max's gift. Nick and Max turned up on the docks, where they noticed a fire in the distance. Max admitted he'd hid his gift. Nick suggested Max take an IQ test. Max refused. He wanted no part of college. Later, Max and Nick returned to the pub. Nick told Steph his chat with Max didn't go well. Kayla approached Max, who didn't want to talk.
Chloe and Philip were kissing when Morgan burst in. Chloe warned Morgan to be careful and stay away from Philip. Philip accused Chloe of being jealous. Chloe said she wasn't and told Morgan the feud between Philip and John could get ugly. They discussed the drugs planted on John's ship. Philip swore he played no part in it. Morgan trusted Philip. Philip's phone rang. It was Paul, noting the problem with the shipment had been taken care of. Morgan left to go talk to her dad. She knew Philip would do the right thing. Bo arrived and told Philip about the fire on the docks. Philip denied any involvement. After Bo left, Chloe noted how her moving out would make things easier for Philip and Morgan. Philip insisted Chloe was the only woman he wanted. The couple got passionate, but Chloe announced she had to go home and unpack. Later, Philip was on the phone with Paul, noting he never asked Paul to burn down the warehouse. Chloe wandered on the docks and realized the only way Lucas knew she was crying before was because he was there, too.
John gave Ava a tour of the mansion. She noted it was dark and masculine, like him. John mentioned being a lot like Ava's dad. Ava insisted John was nothing like him. Her dad used his money to control her. John noted Ava was now free to live the life she wanted and offered a tour of his bedroom. She declined. Downstairs, Sami probed Lucas about what he'd done tonight. Lucas avoided. Sami said she loved him and asked him to trust her. Lucas couldn't, because she'd slept with EJ. Sami suggested earning his trust by him telling her a secret. Lucas still wouldn't spill. Sami admitted she knew Lucas left the house earlier. John scolded the bickering duo, noting there had been nonstop noise in the mansion since they moved in. Sami scolded John and Ava for dating. The doorbell rang and it was Hope. She told John the warehouse containing his goods burned down. "Philip!" seethed John, swearing to take care of his nemesis. Ava supported him. Hope told her to stay out of it and warned John not to interfere, then left. John vowed to take care of this problem. He wasn't going to let Philip ruin his life. Ava found his take-charge attitude sexy, and she and John kissed. Sami found Lucas pacing and asked what was wrong. He wouldn't say, but recalled bumping into Paul earlier. Meanwhile, Ava told John she thought she should go. He seemed distracted. John said he had to address the situation with Philip. Ava wondered why John hadn't fought Philip from the beginning. Marlena walked in and said it was because she didn't want John to.
Bo and Hope met up at the pub, where they discussed the fire, Philip and John. Kayla joined them. Steph and Nick watched Max approach Robbins. Max bent down and whispered to Robbins that he was going to let Nick finish his prototype. If he didn't, Max would tell everyone who he really was.
Friday
Daniel ordered another cat scan on Kate and asked about her past injuries. She noted having hernia surgery. Chelsea stormed in and begged Daniel to help Kate. Chelsea and the doc stepped outside, where Chelsea admitted she had total faith in Daniel. She also mentioned falling in love with him. When Chelsea returned to Kate's room, Kate asked what she and Daniel were talking about. Chelsea said Kate's condition.
Victor interrupted Philip, who was on the phone, and mentioned the arson incident on the docks. Victor said Philip was in over his head. Philip insisted he could handle things. Victor mentioned something more pressing: Kate was in the hospital.
At the pub, EJ told Nicole he found a way to make sure Victor gave her a cushy divorce settlement. All EJ wanted was Nicole's word she wouldn't tell anyone his annulment from Sami was valid. Nicole insisted Sami wasn't right for EJ and he should be with someone who really wanted him. Nevertheless, she promised to keep his secret.
Stephanie and Caroline worried about Max. Caroline suggested he spend time with Steph. Max just wanted to head upstairs, alone. Kayla told Caroline that Max was gifted. Caroline was stunned. Steph entered Max's room and begged him to tell her what was wrong. Max said he couldn't. Steph sobbed, professed her love, and comforted Max with a kiss. The duo made love. Afterwards, Steph slept, and Max whispered he was sorry he couldn't tell her more.
Marlena was perturbed when she walked in on John and Ava. John noted Ava was there for dinner and then some. Sami raced in to see her mom. Sensing Marlena's discomfort, John asked if she was jealous. Marlena noted they were married. John noted they had hadn't been sleeping together like married couples. Marlena was appalled. John said he was moving on. Sami filled Marlena in on the warehouse fire. John told Marlena he had a plan to fight the Kiriakis family. Marlena hoped it didn't include violence or revenge. John told Marlena that wasn't her call. Sami ran into Lucas, who got a call from Philip about Kate being in the hospital. Marlena asked John if he was turning his back on their past. John said he was looking to the future, since he wasn't that guy Marlena fell in love with. Marlena announced she was packing her things and headed upstairs. Sami ran after her. Chloe arrived, but Lucas said he couldn't talk to her. His mom was is in the hospital. Chloe reminded Lucas he couldn't go anywhere and asked where he was when he called her. She thought it was on the pier. Lucas denied it. Alone, Ava asked John if he loved Marlena. John didn't know if he knew what love was. He didn't remember being in love with Marlena, and she didn't love the man he was now. He was tired of disappointing her. That's why John liked Ava. She had no expectations. The duo discussed being in love. Ava called it magical. Then she said her goodbyes and left. Sami begged Marlena not to leave the mansion, but she said she had to go.
Philip and Victor arrived at the hospital as Kate started having severe pain. Daniel and Lexie rushed in. Daniel questioned Kate about recent accidents. Kate mentioned taking a power kick to the stomach in self-defense class. Later, Daniel returned with a diagnosis: omental torsion. Daniel told Kate she was having surgery and would be fine. EJ arrived and told Victor he had a deal to offer him. Victor ordered him off. Daniel emerged and told everyone Kate would be okay.
Ava joined Nicole at the pub and shared the scoop on her evening with John. Nicole asked if she saw the bedroom at the mansion. Ava said she saw it, but didn't experience it. Then, she dropped the bomb: Marlena arrived in the middle of their date and decided to move out.
