DAYS Week of March 24, 2008
Monday
Hope was surprised to find Kayla in Bo's room because she thought Steve took her home. Kayla said that Lexie and Daniel were called away on emergencies, so she came in. Kayla reported that Bo was doing well. Hope was thrilled. She then told Kayla that Shawn and Belle were leaving Salem. During their chat, Bo's monitors started beeping rapidly. Kayla was worried because Bo's body was in distress and spiking a fever. Another doctor came in and tried to switch Bo's medication since Dr. Jonas wasn't there, but Kayla put her foot down and refused to let him. "You could have killed him," Kayla admonished and presented some paperwork to support her proclamation. The doctor apologized and made a quick exit.
In her room, Ava obsessed over a photo of Hope, who she thought was Kayla. Angelo, her cousin, came to visit and asked what was going on with her and why she wasn't getting better. She claimed she was fine. They talked about Patch. Angelo remarked that it was because of Patch that everything was messed up. "The man is scum," he summed up. "You got to forget about him." Ava insisted she needed Patch back to be happy. Ava asked him if he wanted something to eat. Angelo said he'd make something for them. Ava then asked if she could go out to take a walk for 15 minutes. Angelo reluctantly agreed to let her go. When Angelo returned, Ava was gone. George, another bodyguard, came in and reported that Ava had gotten away —
Belle and Shawn met Marlena at the Brady Pub. They told her that bought a boat and were leaving Salem. Marlena was stunned. Sami came in with the twins and overheard them saying they were leaving. She joined them. Marlena tried to dissuade them from taking the trip. She asked where they got the boat. Belle explained that John bought it for them. Sami, sensing that drama was about to take place, asked Shawn and Claire to leave the table to play with the twins. Once alone, Marlena cautioned Belle against taking such a gift from John. "He just wants to make the people he loves happy," Belle reasoned. Marlena worried that Belle would think that John buying her a gift meant that he was returning to his old self. Marlena and Belle worked it through and Doc Evans gave them her blessing to leave town. They got teary and hugged. "Well, now you can focus most of your mom energy on Sami 'cause she's gonna need it," Belle joked. "Hey! You saw me coming. I heard that," Sami smiled, through tears. Marlena hugged both of them and they all cried. Shawn and Claire joined them and they all said good-bye.
Steve went to the hospital and checked in with the guard he had assigned to Kayla. Hope came out of the room and told him about Bo. He hugged her, unaware that Ava was nearby and spying on them. Hope noticed something was wrong with Steve and pressed him to tell her what was going on. He didn't want to burden her, but she wouldn't take no for an answer, so she finally told him all about Ava, including that she was responsible for the plane crash. Hope asked if he told the police. He said no, but was working with Abe on the DL. Hope suddenly recalled her encounter with Ava in the alley on the day of Shawn's funeral. Hope urged him to keep Kayla and the baby safe.
Bo woke up; Kayla told him what happened with the other doctor. Bo fell back asleep. Hope came in to check on him and Kayla told her he'd be out for a while. Hope decided to leave the hospital for a little bit. Steve came in to check on Kayla. Hope asked a nurse to call her if Bo's condition changed and left. Ava followed her.
Tuesday
At the hospital, a recovering Chelsea got flowers from her sorority sisters. She asked Kate about Billie. Kate told her that she assured Billie that Chelsea was okay and she didn't need to return to Salem. Daniel came in. Kate admonished him for not checking on Chelsea earlier. "Everything's pretty sweet here," Daniel noted. "'Sweet?' Is that doctor talk?" Kate queried. Dr. Jonas said that Chelsea could most likely be discharged the next day. He left to check on Bo. Kate remarked that Chelsea didn't seem too excited to leave the hospital and wondered if it had something to do with Daniel. Chelsea insisted that she didn't have a crush on him. Nick visited Chelsea and told her that the thought of living without her is impossible for him. He admitted he was angry at her for doing the transplant surgery because he feared she could die. They exchanged "I love yous." Nick left. Kate returned. Chelsea said she wanted to see Bo; Kate said she'd work on it.
Bo woke up and told Kayla that he was having trouble breathing. "Really?" she asked. "Yeah, the way you're suffocating me. Stop hovering," he cracked. She reported that the surgery was a success. He urged her to go home and rest, but she said no. He told her that he owed her his life. They talked about Shawn and Belle's sailing trip. Steve came in. Kayla told Bo that Caroline wanted to know if Bo wanted anything special of Shawn Sr.'s. Bo said he wanted his father's fishing poles. Kayla said she took them for the baby. Bo said it was fine, but that he wanted his and his initials were carved in the handle. Bo then asked for Pop's pocket watch, but Kayla told him Roman took that. Daniel arrived next. Kayla explained what happened with the other doctor nearly killing Bo with the wrong medication. Daniel said it wouldn't happen again and sent Kayla home with Steve. Daniel and Bo discussed Chelsea's sacrifice. Daniel tried to make Bo understand why Chelsea risked her life for him. "Stop bitching about what you can't change and accept the gift she's given you," Daniel said. Bo said he did and would never be able to thank Chelsea for what she did. But he worried that his body would reject the pancreas. Daniel told him no to worry and gave him some of the "good stuff" to help him sleep. Bo had a disturbing dream about Hope.
In the parking lot, Ava drugged Hope and took her home. There, Angelo asked what she was doing and pointed out that it was kidnapping. She advised him not to tell her father. Hope woke up and was confused because Ava was calling her Kayla. She quickly caught on and played along that she was Kayla. Ava told "Kayla" that she knew she was pregnant and knew so many things about her. Hope held her ground with Ava, who warned "Kayla" not to make her upset. Ava insisted she would get Patch back. Angelo asked to talk to Ava privately. He told her it wasn't such a great idea to keep "Kayla", but Ava got teary so he caved and agreed to help. In the room, Hope poked around and found a photo of Steve and Ava, as well as shots of the real Kayla, Bo and others. "Don't you worry, Brady. I'll find a way out of here," she told Bo's photo.
At the hotel, Steve and Kayla got romantic. After, she called into to check on Bo. Daniel reported that he was okay. The Johnsons then discussed baby names.
Daniel came back to check on Chelsea. He told her she looked a little flushed and asked if she had a fever. She said no. He told her that he hung out with Bo and said how cool he is. "He's my hero," Chelsea said. "Now, remember &mash;you're a hero now, too. You did an amazing thing." Chelsea smiled.
Wednesday
At Java Café, Max and Philip discussed the drama at the docks regarding the Kiriakis shipments. Philip asked Max about Morgan, noting that she was cute. Max warned Philip not to use Morgan to get to Paul. Philip insisted he would never do that, then asked why Max was so protective of his ex. Max said they were friends now and he didn't want Philip messing with her. Max then left to find Steph and wish her luck on her internship.
At the hospital, gift-bearers Morgan and Stephanie visited Chelsea. They talked about her going home later that day. Chelsea said she thought she might be leaving the next day. "Well, we hate to gift and run, but we have to get to our internships," Steph announced. Chelsea wished them luck.
Kate popped in unexpectedly at Tony's office to tell him that she had chosen his firm for her company's advertising and promotion. He promised her that she wouldn't be disappointed. Kate's cell phone rang; it was Anna, asking if Kate had made a decision about ad agencies. Kate told her she went with Tony, but said she had a secondary line that might be a better fit with Anna's firm and to call her. Anna was disappointed and delivered the bad news to her boss via phone. He told her her job was on the line.
Lexie checked in on Bo, who was sleeping restlessly and calling out for Hope. Bo woke up and asked about his wife. He said he had a disturbing dream about her where he couldn't reach her. Lexie offered to call Hope for Bo, but Hope didn't pick up. Bo left a message, then called his mom to check in about Hope. Lexie told him not to worry. Abe visited Lexie and they bemoaned the lack of time they spend together.
At Ava's lair, Hope looked for a way to escape. Ava gave Hope, whom she thought was Kayla, some food. Ava warned "Kayla" that Angelo was outside standing guard and that she shouldn't try to escape. Hope tried to talk to Ava to get to know her better. "My name is Kayla Johnson and you and I are going to have a nice, little chat about Steve and my unborn baby. And then you're going to let me go." Hope then asked how long Ava planned to keep her there. "Just until Patch shows up and joins us," Ava replied. They discussed the plane crash. Ava said it was an accident, but "Kayla" pointed out that three people had died, including her father. Ava bristled when Hope called her crazy. She insisted she would be fine once she had Patch back. "We're soul mates,' she whispered like a nutter. Hope asked why she wanted him back. "Because I love him," Ava said. Hope told her she was delusional. Ava warned her not to underestimate her. She then gave Hope a cell phone lifted off her cousin and told "Kayla" that she was going to call Patch.
Steph and Morgan ran into Philip at the Jave Caf. He bought them coffee he told Morgan he wanted to apologize for being rude to her father. "I was out of line," he explained. She told him to apologize to her father directly. "As soon as our shipments are out of quarantine, I will. Have a nice day," he said and left. Steph noted to Morgan that it was a weird encounter. The two brushed it off and talked about their internships &mash; and how Tony and Anna had the "hots" for each other. Their professor arrived and announced that there was a condition of their internships, that they would be followed by cameramen (hello, Lauren Conrad at Teen Vogue) from time to time. They headed to work. Anna asked Steph what the cameraman was doing there. Steph explained about the class credit. Anna told them it was fine, as long as nothing wound up on the Internet. Max turned up to wish Steph luck, bearing flowers and asked what was up with the camera. Steph explained and thanked him for coming to see her. "At the risk of sounding like a guy in a chick flick, I always make time with you," he said. "I mean, to be with you." She thanked him with a kiss. All was caught on tape. They made plans to meet up later.
Morgan arrived at Tony's office just after Tony accidentally spilled a drink on Kate, which was caught on tape. Kate asked if Morgan walked into her boss's office unannounced often. Morgan apologized. Tony asked about the camera, noting that nobody cleared it with him. He told Morgan to make sure it wasn't a problem, then explained that they landed Kate's company's account. Philip entered and was surprised to see his mom —and Morgan. Kate didn't know they even knew each other. Tony asked what Philip was doing there. Philip said he was thinking of hiring Tony to do an ad campaign to promote his shipping line. Tony was pleased. Philip said good-bye to Morgan, who replied, "Hopefully, I can be part of that team that services your needs." Kate cleared her throat. Philip and Kate left.
Chelsea was wheeled into Bo's room for a visit. He was happy to see her and thanked her for saving his life. She told him how much she loved him. She cuddled in bed with him, then discussed what an amazing doctor Daniel was. "Daniel, huh?" Bo asked. "Yeah," Chelsea answered. Bo called Steve, looking for Hope. Steve said he hadn't heard from her. Chelsea asked her father if he was worried that something was wrong with Hope. The nurse came in to get Chelsea and return her to her room. Bo told his daughter he loved her. She responded that she loved him, too.
Thursday
Philip was surprised when Chloe came in, dressed to the nines. "Damn. You clean up nice," he said. "You say that like it's a miracle," she replied, then explained that she had an audition with the Desconso Opera Company. "I was born for this part," she enthused.
In her room, Ava gave the phone to Hope ("Kayla") and ordered her to call Patch. At the hotel, the real Kayla tried to sneak out of the room by a sleeping Steve, who woke up and caught her. She said she was going to see Bo. He told her to get back in bed. His cell phone rang; it was Hope, pretending to be Kayla. She told him she was with his friend, Ava. Ava grabbed the phone and warned Patch that he should be very worried about Kayla's safety. She also advised him to keep the conversation to himself. He hung up. A concerned Kayla asked who it was. Steve was about to tell her the whole story, but she was hit with an abdominal cramp. Steve called her doctor, who offered to come and make a house call. Steve took Kayla to the bedroom. Dr. Elman arrived and headed in to check on Kayla. Steve checked his caller ID but Ava had a restricted number.
Ava asked "Kayla" if Patch really loved her. "Is that a question you really want me to answer," Hope countered. Ava explained that she wanted Patch to feel the same pain she did. "It is such a deep hurt inside your heart. It's like you just want to give up on everything," she whispered. Hope asked Ava if she wanted to hurt her, too. Ava said no and apologized that she had to do this, but said it couldn't be helped. Hope ate her sandwich and tried to befriend Ava. "I'm not such an ogre; can't you see why Patch was in love with me?" Ava chirped. Hope asked how Ava and Patch met. She explained that they were both hailing a cab at the same time and they ended up sharing the one that came. Then they had coffee. "Almost love at first sight," Hope remarked. Hope asked how long they were together. "Almost two years. We were going to get married," Ave replied and began to describe the gazebo and twinking lights she dreamed of for their wedding, but it never happened. "Daddy didn't want me to marry Patch, so we ran away," Ava explained, but they still didn't get married. Hope asked what happened after Patch left. "I cried and I hit things. And then I got sick," Ava yelled. Hope asked what she meant by getting sick. Ava said she didn't want to talk about herself anymore. She asked "Kayla" what it was like to be married to Patch. Hope said she wanted to make a phone call in return for the information.
Lexie entered Bo's room and reprimanded him for trying to get out of bed. He said he was going to find Hope. She reminded him that he had major surgery and wasn't going anywhere. She then threatened to sedate him if he didn't comply. Lexie left. When she returned, she found Bo out of bed again and ordered him back in it. He said he was worried about Hope and asked Lexie to call Abe to come down to the hospital. Bo was in pain, so Lexie checked him out. He pulled a stitch; Lexie was annoyed and reiterated how serious his condition is. Abe came in. Bo asked him to put an APB out on Hope. "She's missing?" Abe asked, then said he'd get his men on it.
Daniel went to Chelsea (who was now glammed up) and, with the help of Max and Stephanie (who were wheeling a balloon and pinwheel decorated wheelchair), told her she could go home. Steph asked Daniel if he planned to stick around Salem. He told her that the hospital board made him an offer that he might take. Max and Daniel left the room so Chelsea could get dressed. Max congratulated Daniel on the successful operation. Chelsea got dressed. She and Daniel hugged good-bye. Steph teased Chelsea, but she insisted she was just thanking him for saving Bo's life.
Steph and Max wheeled Chelsea to see Bo. Lexie and Abe were outside the room talking and laughed when they saw Chelsea's decorated wheelchair. Lexie warned Chelsea to take it easy on Bo, who had pulled a stitch. She told her father she was going home. Bo said he didn't think the sorority house was the place for her to recover.
An angry Chloe returned to the Kiriakis manse and told Philip that she didn't get the part because of her notoriety in Austria with regard to Brady's disappearance. She fumed that everybody thought she had something to do with it. "I don't," Philip assured her. They nearly kissed, but were interrupted by a call from Bo, asking if Chelsea could move into the mansion. Phil said yes and they'd hire a nurse for her. Bo thanked him, then told Chelsea the news. Chelsea hugged her dad good-bye and was wheeled out.
Steve called Bo and said he needed to talk to him about Hope. "You know where she is?" Bo asked. "Yeah, I think I do." Steve said he talked to her, but didn't know exactly where she was. Steve said he would come to the hospital and explain to Bo in person. Dr. Elman came out and told Steve that Kayla had to rest. Steve called Steph and asked her to come home immediately.
Friday
Marlena arrived at Chez Rouge. Maggie noted that she looked beautiful. Marlena explained that she had been at a charity event and was called over to the restaurant. She then noticed John at a table, waiting for her with champagne and the works. She walked over and said it was presumptuous of him to lure her over and not invite her directly. He explained that he wanted to put the docks business behind them. "It wasn't my intention to upset or disappoint you," he told her. "Why do you suddenly care what I think of you?" she countered. He said he didn't know why, but that he did. She asked if his memories were resurfacing, but he implored her not to start in with that again. "Sometimes I feel bad when I disappoint you. That's my way of apologizing. So, just accept it, enjoy it," he told her. He had a gift for her, a diamond necklace. "I knew that would smooth things over. So, all's forgiven, right?" he said. "Wrong," she replied. She said she didn't appreciate a bribe. He said it wasn't one. She told him she was sorry he went to all the trouble and expense, but that he couldn't buy her forgiveness. She advised him not to spend his money on "junk like this." He pointed out that he could afford it. A fed up Marlena got up and left. On the way out, she gave the necklace to Maggie, who said she couldn't accept it. Marlena told her to sell it and give it to charity and walked out. Maggie noted to John that the evening didn't turn out as he had hoped. He said he wasn't good at the man/woman thing. She suggested he impress Marlena by selling the necklace and giving the money to a worthy cause. He decided he didn't want to impress Marlena anymore because she was too high-maintenance.
Abe reported to Bo that officers were out looking for Hope. "Don't worry; we'll find her," he declared. Steve called Bo's cell phone and urged him not to go to the cops until they spoke. When he hung up, Bo told Abe that he thought they should call the guys off, saying he overreacted. "What's changed?" Abe asked. Bo lied that he was probably panicked from the medication. Abe found his change of heart suspicious. So did Lexie, but Bo kept mum.
Steph arrived at the hotel suite. Steve told her about Kayla's cramping. She demanded to know what was going on, but he said he didn't have time to get into it. He left. Kayla woke up and called out for him. Steph said that he had to leave, but that she was there to stay with her mom. Kayla went back to sleep. Max knocked on the door and asked if everything was okay. She swore him to secrecy, then told him about Ava. He promised to be there for Steph. They hugged. He said that he was sorry that they hadn't spent more time together, then told her he had something to say to her. "I would have wanted it to be more romantic, you know, with candlelight, champagne and roses, but I guess this will have to do... I, uh, feel very strongly for you." Steph laughed, through tears, and said, "Oh." He was disappointed in her reaction. She apologized and asked if he was afraid to say "the word." He played dumb. She said she would say it then. "Love. There. You happy?" she smiled. He kissed her. Kayla came out to talk to them and saw them in an embrace. She noted how they might face some criticism because of their family connection, even though Max was adopted, but Max joked that he would twist anyone's arm who said anything.
Steve arrived at Bo's hospital room and told him that Hope is with Ava Vitali. Bo asked why Steve knew, but he didn't. Steve told him about the phone call and gave him a short version of his relationship with Ava — and that she caused the plane from Ireland to crash. Oh, and how she thinks Hope is Kayla. Bo was furious. Steve tried to calm him down, promising he would get Hope back.
In Ava's room, Hope ("Kayla") asked if she could make another call, but Ava said no. Ava asked "Kayla" to tell her about her past with Steve. Hope gave a very broad stroke description of Steve and Kayla's love story, including that he was presumed dead and then came back to her the year before. "He couldn't remember anything, but you see, once he did, he remembered me. He remembered his feelings for me, his love for me." Ava told her to shut up, but "Kayla" reminded her that she was the one who asked. Ava asked her if she doubted that Patch loved Ava. "Kayla" noted that Steve was probably confused at the time. Ava recalled a romantic night with Patch and insisted he would love her again. Ava called Patch, who asked what the deal was. She organized a meeting place and said he better come or he'd never see his pregnant wife again.
