DAYS Week of March 8, 2010
Monday
Rafe, Sami and Will were stunned when EJ walked into the Brady Pub with Sydney in his arms. "I finally found her," he announced. Sami cried happy tears and took her baby in her arms. Roman and Caroline heard the commotion and came in. They were equally excited to see Sydney. Rafe asked where EJ found her, but he played coy. Rafe pressed the matter. EJ said he had received a ransom demand. Rafe wasn't thrilled that EJ kept that to himself. EJ defended himself, saying he would do anything to get his daughter back. Roman suggested Sami take the baby to the hospital so she could get checked out. Rafe questioned EJ again, but Sami diffused the situation by saying they should celebrate. Rafe headed out to investigate. Roman joined him. Sami thanked EJ for finding the baby.
EJ and Sami took Sydney back to the DiMera manse and called for Johnny. While they were waiting, Sydney called EJ, "Dada." Sami was confused, noting that Sydney hadn't seen EJ in so long and wondered how the baby knew to call him that. Johnny ran in; he was excited to see his sister. EJ asked Sami to spend the night with Allie, Sydney and Johnny. "I think it's important that we ... establish or re-establish that we're a family," he explained.
In the forest, Rafe and Roman looked for the kidnappers' trail. Roman got a call that Sami and EJ didn't take Syd to the hospital and wondered where they were. Rafe headed chez DiMera and noted that he didn't feel EJ cared about catching the people who snatched Syd. Rafe got a call. EJ told Sami he would keep her name out of the ransom note knowledge, but she said he couldn't do that. Rafe walked in and realize Sami knew the truth.
Stephanie tried to convince herself that ripping up Melanie's wedding day letter to Nathan was for the best. She headed to the Pub and was thrilled to hear about Sydney. She confided in Caroline that she didn't pass along a message from Mel to Nate. She added that Melanie wasn't happy to learn that Nathan and Steph were dating.
Nathan confronted Carly on the pier and asked how she could shoot Melanie. An angry Dr. M pointed out that she owed Nathan nothing, seeing as how he wasn't Mel's boyfriend anymore. They argued. Nathan kicked himself for how everything went down. Carly apologized, so he did, too.
Chloe joined Philip at Java Caf. He told her that Daniel was with Melanie and he wasn't included in their convo. He wondered if Melanie had a medical condition, but Chloe said no, it wasn't that. She dropped the bomb that Melanie was Daniel's daughter. Realizing that would complicate things for Chloe, Philip gave his ex a reassuring hug.
In Mel's hospital room, she tried to come to grips with the news that Daniel is her father. She asked how long he knew, but he revealed he found out the night before. She kicked him out, then asked him to stay when she realized she couldn't be mad at him for not knowing the truth. She asked him to explain what happened. He told her how he and Carly had hooked up one night at a medical convention. Mel asked her dad if he hated Carly as much as she did for keeping the truth a secret. He said he was still processing it all. He then told Mel that they would have to get to know each other. She asked if he wanted kids and he assured her that yes, he did. He admitted he felt a connection to her. She cried that she felt it, too.
Philip headed at the hospital and was exasperated that Daniel was still with his wife. Philip entered Melanie's room and interrupted Mel and Daniel's bonding. He told her he knew about her connection to Dr. J. "Instead of Trent raising me, I could have had him," Mel sobbed. "How could Carly do that to me?" She then noted that their post-wedding days had been drama filled. He insisted he loved her and that didn't matter. He realized he left some "real estate research" in the car and headed out to get it.
Chloe encountered Carly on the pier. She told Carly that she would never give up a baby if she had one. Daniel came upon them. Carly asked if he had spoken to Melanie and asked how it went. Dan responded that he wasn't sharing that with her. She took off. Daniel asked Chloe how she was doing. She insisted she was fine. He knew she wasn't.
Carly called Melanie and asked how things went with Daniel. Melanie told her it was none of her business. Carly insisted she would never stop loving Melanie. Mel didn't care and hung up, crying. A hand reached out to comfort her — it was Nathan.
Tuesday
Rafe asked Sami if she knew about the ransom. EJ tried to cover, but Rafe pressed his girlfriend to respond. Through tears, Sami admitted she knew about the ransom note and didn't tell him.
At the hospital, Stephanie and Lexie talked about how how thrilled they were to have Sydney back. The conversation switched to Melanie. Lexie assured Steph her pal would be fine. Steph said she should have "stopped it" when she had the chance. Lexie asked what she meant. Steph told Lexie about not passing along a message she was supposed to. Lexie warned her that lies always come out in the end. "And then you're in big trouble," Steph sighed.
In her room, Melanie grabbed the hand on her shoulder, which turned out to be Nathan's. She cried that her life was a mess and told him that Daniel was her father. She then discussed the letter and said she didn't blame him or want him to feel guilty. He had no idea what she was talking about. Before she could explain, he got paged to see a patient. He promised he'd return and they'd discuss the "mystery letter."
Gabi took Stefano and Kate's order at the Brady Pub. "Another Hernandez. Just what Salem needs," the Phoenix sighed to his wife. She thanked him for the shopping day they'd had. The conversation shifted to Sydney. He vowed to kill whoever had harmed her. The DiMeras headed home and found Sydney in their living room. Stefano was overjoyed. EJ warned his father not to touch the baby. Rafe tried to mediate. He and Sami took off. She thanked him for not going off on her in front of EJ. She hoped he would forgive her in time. They brought the baby to the hospital. Lexie and Steph were excited to see them. Steph asked how the baby was returned. Sami said EJ got a ransom note and paid. Once alone, Sami asked Rafe if they could move past everything, but his focus was on Sydney.
Stephanie ran into Nathan, who admitted he was confused by a conversation he had with Melanie. She asked if he hated her, then realized he wasn't aware of her connection to the letter. She covered by saying she felt bad that she hadn't spent more time with Melanie since the shooting. Steph went to Mel's room and asked how she was doing. "How do you think I'm doing, bitch?" Mel hissed.
EJ told his father it was time to pack his things and leave. Stefano exploded, damning EJ for continuing to blame him for something he didn't do. He added that EJ was not going to kick him out of his own house. Kate wanted them to move on and work things out. EJ stormed out and went to the hospital. He entered in time to hear Rafe promise to find Sydney's kidnappers. Hernandez took off, so EJ swept in to check on his ex. Sami wondered if EJ was happy that there was now a wedge in between Sami and Rafe. EJ admitted he wasn't a fan of Rafe's, but didn't want to see Sami in pain. He asked if he could spend the night with her...
Brady took Arianna on a romantic getaway, planning to propose. He stepped outside and got champagne, then put the ring in one of the flutes. He imagined Ari choking on the ring so he fished it out. While he was out, she called Gabi and confided that Brady was "the one." Brady brought a feast into the room and made a romantic proposal to Arianna. She turned him down.
Wednesday
Brady was stunned when Arianna turned down his proposal. Awkward! Brady stormed out. Gabi called because there was a problem at the Pub, so Ari told her how to fix it. Gabi apologized for ruining her romantic time with Brady, but Ari admitted that Brady had left because she turned down his proposal. When Brady returned, Ari pulled him into a kiss. She explained she wasn't ready to wed, but still wanted to be with him. She added that when they got married, she wanted it to be forever. He understood — and agreed with her. "I reserve the right to make future offers," he told her.
Mia was surprised when Will showed up at Maggie's and kissed her. She asked what was up; he revealed that Sydney was home and he was thrilled. He gave her a St. Christopher's medal. He hoped she would wear it to show that they were exclusive. "Oh," she responded unenthusiastically.
Maggie was alarmed when she nearly tripped outside of the Brady Pub. Nathan met her and they went inside. He admitted he was upset over Melanie. Maggie reminded him that Mel was married. "I'm not quite convinced she loves Philip," Nathan told his grandma, then dropped the bomb about the letter. While Nathan was looking away, Maggie's hands began to shake. Maggie asked him what the letter said. He admitted he didn't know, but noted that Mel seemed upset that he hadn't read it. Nathan chided himself for not stopping the wedding when he had the chance. Maggie asked him if he has even thought about Philip — or Stephanie for that matter. He said he liked Steph, but didn't realize Mel could still be in the picture. Nathan suddenly got paged and was upset that they didn't have a chance to talk to Maggie about what was going on with her. She sent him off to the hospital. "I'm so lucky to have you," he said before leaving. Maggie returned home and promptly passed out on the floor. She came to and sat at the table.
In Melanie's hospital room, she and Stephanie faced off over the letter. Steph didn't back down, defending her actions. "Yikes, you really do hate me," Mel marveled. "Let's just say I'm not losing sleep over what you think about me," Steph responded. They then argued over Philip. Stephanie offered to make a copy of the letter and give it to both Philip and Nathan. Melanie didn't want to hurt Philip and called Steph a bitch. Steph warned her not to mess with her. "I'm the last person you want on your bad side," Steph noted. She then told Mel to stay away from Nathan or else she would go to Philip. Melanie's phone rang, so Steph took off. On the pier, she realized the had to call Nathan, but he was outside of Melanie's room. He picked up his phone and agreed with Steph that they needed to talk.
Sami was taken aback when EJ asked if he could spend the night with her. Rafe approached and asked what was going on. EJ explained that he wanted to be with his children. "She was supposed to get that from, ‘I want to stay the night with you?' " Rafe exploded. EJ made a calm, passionate plea to Sami about staying at her house. "I just need to know that this nightmare is over, that I have my little girl back," he explained. An agent arrived to question Elvis. EJ retold his "version" of how things went down with the ransom note, but Rafe was suspicious. After, Rafe vowed to Sami that he would find the person who kidnapped Syd. EJ then walked up with Sydney in his arms. Once alone, EJ asked Rafe if he was okay with EJ staying at Sami's. Rafe told him it was up to Sami. Lexie teased her brother that he had feelings for Sami, but he insisted he was doing it for the kids. Rafe and Sami headed home. EJ arrived, so Rafe took off with Sami's laptop to do some investigating. Sami was upset. "Everything's just a big mess," she told her ex. After, she fell asleep on the chair with Sydney in her arms. EJ put a blanket over them.... At the station, Rafe sifted through phone records. "We're closing in on you, sucker," he said.
Thursday
In jail, Nicole beat up her cellmate to show her dominance. The guard warned Nicole to knock it off.
Daniel entered Melanie's room, but backed out when she heard her sighing that her life was "just great." He went to Maggie's to talk to her about Mel and explained that he wanted to do the right thing by his daughter, but wasn't sure what that was. Maggie asked how Chloe was dealing with everything. "Unless she's singing an aria, it's hard to know what that woman is feeling," he admitted. He then asked what was wrong with her because he had noticed her exhibiting some symptoms. She was taken aback but allowed him to check out the bruise on her arm. He wondered if her mysathenia gravis had come back and told her she needed to see a doctor. He put her coat on her and took her to the hospital, where he alerted the chief of neurology. After, he went into check on Melanie and they had a good chat. He then caught up with Maggie and asked how her appointment went. She was a little short with him and went into Melanie's room. She admired the flowers Philip sent Melanie and picked up the vase, which promptly fell. Maggie got very upset, which alarmed Melanie. Maggie admitted that something was up with her mysathenia gravis, but Mel shouldn't be concerned. Melanie cried that Maggie had to be okay because she needed her.
EJ returned to Sami's townhouse after taking the twins to school. She asked if he had seen Rafe, but he said no. EJ and Sami were thrilled to be with their baby girl. She asked how EJ found her but EJ took off before he could respond. Sami left a message for Rafe.... At the station, Agent Clark asked Rafe if he had been there all night. He said he had been going over EJ's cell phone records.
Anna packed a suitcase of cash in the cabin. She then packed her clothes and one of the telltale ankle boots fell out. EJ arrived at the cabin and told her to hurry up and get going. Anna smirked that she knew EJ wouldn't leave town. He admitted he had sentimental attachment to Samantha, but couldn't forget all she had done. Before he left, he wished Anna a good life — far away from Salem.
Brady and Arianna chatted at Java Café, then she took off to visit Mel. When she got to the hospital, Ari asked where Philip was. Melanie said she sent him to work. Ari wondered if it was because Nathan was around, but Melanie didn't want to talk about him. She asked about Ari and Brady's getaway. Ari told her that Brady proposed and she turned him down.
Chloe joined Brady at Java. He asked her to deliver the news about Sydney to Nicole. She said she would. Nicole was thrilled to see her. Chloe reported that Sydney was alive and well and with her mother. Nicole managed a smile. "Sami and EJ, they have everything they want now and I'm in here," she noted. She asked if they knew who did it, then had a flash of the boot of the kidnapper. She worried she would never remember what really happened.
Brady visited Sami and Sydney and was thrilled the baby was home. Sami told him that EJ spent the night to be with his kids. Brady asked how Rafe felt about that, but Sami told him Rafe never came home. They talked about Rafe for a bit, then Sami decided to visit him. She left Sydney with Caroline.
Arianna dropped in on Rafe at work. She wondered why he wasn't with Sami and Sydney, but he explained that he had a kidnapper to find. He added that the whole situation seemed to be a setup just to hurt Sami. She told him that Brady proposed but she turned him down because she managed to find a way to screw it up. She urged him to go to Sami and Sydney and not screw that up. Agent Clark gave him a list of uninhabited buildings near the cell tower EJ's calls went through and he quickly went to work. Sami came by.... Ari went to the pub. EJ came in and sat with her. She told him she was happy for him that Sydney was back.
Friday
Sami arrived at the station to apologize to Rafe, but he was too focused on the case to talk. She said it was important but he really wanted to hear what Agent Clark got from their informant. Sami realized the case was about Sydney. Rafe asked Agent Clark to go work on the lead they just got. Once alone, Rafe urged Sami to just focus on the fact that Sydney was home. "I see through you and I can see that I hurt you," she told him. He admitted that he wished she had been honest about the ransom demand, but understood that when they did it his way the first time, it didn't work out. He assured her he still loved her. She asked if he trusted her. He said yes, but she didn't believe him. He insisted it was true and that he saw a future for them. They nearly kissed, but he pulled away. "See, you are still mad," she said. He insisted he wasn't, but made it clear that she couldn't just snap her fingers and make everything okay. The phone rang. It was Agent Clark, who had a lead on the possible hideout of the kidnapper. Rafe rushed out.
Vivian ran into Carly on the pier. "Go ahead. Do everyone a favor. Jump," Viv goaded. She then told Dr. M how thrilled she was at the way things had turned out, with Daniel and Melanie hating Carly. Carly said the feud was between Carly and Viv and told her rival to leave Melanie out of it.
Arianna talked to EJ at the Brady Pub. He asked her to work for him and go through the executive training program at DiMera Enterprises. He left his card so she could think it over. Brady spied them talking and approached. He told EJ he was glad Syd was back. EJ thanked him and walked off. Ari told him about the job offer. Brady asked her to coffee. They headed to Java, where he said he had a big question for her. She thought he was going to propose again, but he teased her and asked her to split a piece of cake. She was upset, noting that she had been scared when he proposed the first time and didn't realize it was a one-time only deal. He dropped to one knee and popped the question again. "I would love to. Yes," she replied happily.
Nicole tried to remember who took Sydney, but she sighed to Chloe that it was all a big blank. She knew the voice sounded familiar, though. Nic talked about how stir crazy she was going in prison. She changed the subject to Chloe and Daniel. Chloe told her about the hysterical pregnancy and the shrink Daniel wants her to see and the Melanie/Daniel connection. Nic was sympathetic. Visiting hours were over, so Chloe had to take off. Nicole asked her pal to give Sydney a kiss and tell the baby that she would never screw up her life again. Chloe asked if she had a message for EJ. "Sure. Tell him to drop dead," Nic replied. After, Nicole went back to her cell and Lois the guard gave her a toothbrush to scrub the floors. "Are you kidding?" Nicole balked. "I have never been more serious," Lois replied. Nicole prayed for a release.
At the cabin, Anna packed her things. She did one last sweep and realized she couldn't find her boots. She was relieved when she located them under the couch. Her cell phone rang. It was EJ, who wanted to know why she wasn't on the plane. She assured him everything was fine and hurried him off the phone. She tried to shove the boots into her bag, but they didn't fit.
EJ brought Sydney home to Sami. He could tell she seemed upset and deduced it had to do with Rafe.... At the cabin, Rafe and Agent Clark approached the front door, guns drawn.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Victor chatted on the phone with the governor. Daniel arrived to talk to his godfather about Melanie. Vic assumed Daniel was sleeping with the teen, but Daniel revealed that he was her father. Victor was horrified that Daniel had sex with Carly. "It was a one night thing," Dr. J assured him. Victor asked how Melanie took it. "Not well," Daniel replied. Victor urged Danto do whatever he had to do to keep Melanie in his life. He said he never knew Bo and Isabella growing up, but loved every day he had ith them. Vic noted that he had grown fond of Melanie and promised to look out for her.... Victor walked on the pier and happened by Viv and Carly. He and Carly traded barbs, then he and Vivian took off. Carly left Bo a message saying she planned to plead guilty at the hearing.
Daniel and Chloe met up at the Brady Pub. After telling Daniel about her visit with Nicole, Chloe could see he seemed distracted. She wondered if he was worried about Carly going to prison, but he assured Chloe his mind was only on her.
