DAYS Week of May 19, 2008
Monday
A frantic Kayla wanted to go be with the baby in NICU, but Lexie insisted that the new mom stay in bed. Steve, who agreed with the doctor, told his wife that he'd go check on their preemie son, but Lex said that he also had to stay put, the baby needs to stay in a sterile environment. Out in the corridor, Stephanie worried about her baby brother's condition and asked Chelsea if Daniel could help. Chelsea said she didn't know where he is and noted that pediatrics isn't his specialty. Max took a weeping Stephanie into his arms. Chelsea volunteered to go make some calls to the family about the baby. Stephanie went to visit her mom. The Johnsons lightened the mood with a round of possible baby names, but things turned grim when Lexie arrived and reported that the baby is still not breathing on his own.
At the DiMera mansion, Sami was pacing her bedroom and gazing at a framed bedside photo of Lucas. EJ, meanwhile, stood outside her door, hesitant to knock. She opened the door to him and a heart-to-heart ensued. She confessed that she also forced herself on someone once, recalling how she drugged and then seduced Austin. Since Austin forgave her, Sami reasoned that she must forgive EJ. She confessed that she kissed EJ the first time to annoy Nicole, but that the second time it was because she wanted to kiss him. This lead to more long kisses.
Nick confronted Max about helping with his grant project. Seeing as how it was approved, Max didn't see what the big deal was. Nick argued that he wasn't sure it was his own work. Max countered that Nick is giving him a lot of credit if he thinks Max is capable of so much. Max assured Nick the work is all his own, Nick said he'd find out if his pal is playing him.
Mickey visited Lucas in prison and asked how he'd like to get out of Statesville. Mickey explained that Lucas is on a waiting list to be released under house arrest. (The program cuts down on overcrowding.) A chipper Maggie arrived, bearing a basket filled with goodies.
Moments after a towel-clad Daniel hit the showers in the hospital locker room, Chelsea stopped by to look for the doc. Of course, he came out of the shower completely naked. He changed the subject of his nakedness by noticing that Chelsea has a new hairstyle, which he decreed "hot." Chelsea asked Daniel if he could help with Steve and Kayla's baby, but he pointed out that isn't his area of expertise. He then suggested that she give it up and move on. She remarked that he can't even seem to leave Salem, so he's not one to talk about moving on. The started smooching, of course.
As they moved toward the bed, EJ asked Sami if she's sure she wants this. She asked him to stop asking her that.... At Statesville, Mickey had big news for Lucas, he's being sent home!
Tuesday
In the hospital locker room, a towel-clad Daniel shared a passionate kiss with Chelsea. Nick, meanwhile, dropped by the Brady Pub where Max was at work. Nick confided that he thinks Chelsea is into Dr. Jonas. Max was surprised by his friend's calm, accepting demeanor. A glum Stephanie showed up and Max took her into his arms, asking how her newborn brother is doing. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she reported that the baby is still in NICU. When Max went to fix tea for her, Nick approached and tried to cheer up his friend with stories about premature babies who made it. Nick also mentioned that his grant proposal was approved and asked Stephanie to tell him what Max did to the papers. She repeated Max's story that he only cleaned it up but didn't make any adjustments. Max returned and admitted that there were adjustments — made by one of Nick's professors. Max insisted that when the papers got soaked, he needed help fixing things. This made no sense to Nick, who wanted to know why Max didn't let him make the fix himself. Stephanie didn't buy the story and forced Max to privately tell her the truth. Max finally came clean: He worked on the grant all by himself.
As the Carvers played with their son in the living room, Lexie tried to teach Theo how to say the word "block." The boy remained silent. Abe didn't think it was a big deal, but Lexie was concerned. She worried about how seldom their child speaks. After Theo was in bed, Abe poured his wife some red wine and gave her a back massage. Nuzzling ensued and he suggested they go upstairs. They were on their way when the phone rang. Abe was vexed. After she hung up, Abe remarked that Theo must be picking up on their tension. Lexie said that's why they are going to see a marital counselor.
At Statesville Prison, Lucas, Mickey and Maggie celebrated his release from prison and acceptance into the house arrest program. Lucas said he couldn't wait to see the look on Sami's face when he walks through the door. At that very moment, EJ and Sami were getting it on at the DiMera mansion. Back at the prison, Mickey explained to Lucas about the terms of his house arrest: wearing an ankle monitor and not leaving home without permission. When Lucas made a comment about being confined to the apartment, Maggie and Mickey exchanged a look. Mickey explained that Sami moved into the DiMera manse with John and Marlena. They brought him up to speed on everything except for the fact that EJ lives there, too. In the meantime, Sami and EJ's horizontal action on the bed was interrupted when they heard one of the twins crying via the nursery monitor.... After Lucas got ready to go home, Mickey and Maggie agreed that Sami has to be the one to tell him about EJ. Speaking of, the couple had got the twins back to sleep and resumed smooching on the bed.
Daniel had pushed Chelsea up against the lockers and was tearing open her blouse when they heard someone approaching. Quick-thinking Daniel shoved his lady into the locker. A sexy brunette entered the locker room and was quite pleased to see the glistening, nearly nude doctor, fresh from his shower. The flirtatious woman introduced herself as Amber, a second-year resident. Noting Daniel's commitment to conservation, she regretted that they didn't have a chance to save water by showering together. Chelsea rolled her eyes. Amber volunteered that she likes to surf and suggested that they hit the waves sometimes. Daniel pointed out that Salem might not make for good surfing. He also let her know that he's seeing somebody. Amber gave him her number, just in case, and took off. Chelsea, released from her locker, smirked, "So, you're seeing someone, huh?" "I had to tell her something," shrugged Dr. Jonas. She asked why it's so hard for him to admit his feelings.
He responded that he doesn't want to do anything that will be bad for her. Chelsea said that they can make it work.
As Sami and EJ made love, Lucas stood outside the door of the mansion.
Wednesday
In her hospital bed, Kayla cried out for her baby. Steve came to her side and announced that their son has died. Kayla bolted upright and Steve came to her side, comforting her over the dreadful nightmare. He assured her that the preemie will be okay and suggested they pick out a baby name. A teary Kayla wrote her idea on a slip of paper. Steve was pleased with the choice, saying that a certain grandma would be thrilled. The baby will be called Joe (to prevent confusion with Adrienne's Joseph).
After doing the deed, EJ and Sami engaged in some pillow talk. She summed up what happened as "just sex," but EJ maintained that they were making meaningful love. Outside the DiMera mansion, a guard dropped off Lucas to begin serving out his house arrest. Lucas rang the bell and was greeted by Rolf, who was stunned to learn that Lucas is the newest resident. Rolf offered to summon Sami, but Lucas wanted to surprise her, so the servant let him know which room is Sami's and sent him on his way. Lucas walked into the bedroom and found Sami under the covers with EJ. She was surprised, that's for sure. A fuming Lucas headed for the door and Sami scrambled out of bed, pulled on a robe and begged Lucas to stay. He yelled that he was taking his daughter and leaving. Sami rushed from the bedroom. EJ, left all by himself in bed, was mighty vexed.
At the Brady Pub, Roman and Anna were having drinks when Kate arrived with Tony. Roman asked to speak with Kate alone, then questioned her about Martino Vitali. At another table, Tony called out Anna over her jealousy of Kate. She admitted to being jealous; he said they have to do something about that. He stood up, which made Anna think that he was about to dump her. Playfully telling Anna to shut up, he reached into his pocket for a small, black box, dropped to one knee and proposed. A thrilled Anna accepted and Kate and Roman congratulated them. Tony whisked his fiancée off for a private celebration. Roman told a smirking Kate that he gives it six months, three if Anna tries to cook. Satisfied that she knows nothing else about Mario, Roman offered to buy Kate another drink.
Bo and Hope were at the police station, where he flashed back to shooting Vitali. Bo agonized over the fact that though the mobster was scum, he was also a dad. Hope reasoned that Bo had no choice. When Hope stepped away, Bo made a call to arrange a surprise for his wife.... Dr. Carrington, the marriage counselor, sat in Abe and Lexie's living room as the couple hashed out their problems. Lexie confessed that she's worried that something is wrong with Theo. Carrington suggested that the child is experiencing a disconnect from his parents, mirroring their disconnect from one another. He gave the couple an assignment, a family outing with Theo and no distractions like cell phones. Afterward, they have to write out their observations about the family day.... At the Pub, which Caroline had closed early for Bo, he Hope and Claire enjoyed a private family night.
Lucas stomped downstairs and ordered the police escort to take him somewhere else, but the cop explained that the ankle monitor has already been activated and Horton can't just change residences like that. Sami, who had gotten dressed, came down with EJ not far behind. Lucas filled in Sami about the house arrest and the guard told Lucas they'd have to wait until at least the morning before moving him. Sami and Lucas stepped away to argue in private. EJ listened in as she insisted to her ex-husband that sex with her current husband meant nothing to her. The mood lightened a bit when Lucas was reunited with Allie and happily cooed over his daughter, but after handing off the child to Rolf, Lucas was done talking to Sami.
Thursday
Kayla was cradling baby Joe in her arms when Ava walked into her hospital room and took the child from her. Kayla sat up with a start, it was all just a nightmare. She looked up and there was Ava, holding a bouquet of flowers. Ava apologized for her past misdeeds and blamed herself for all that Kayla is going through. She feared that the premature delivery was stress-induced and lamented that she was the source of Kayla's stress. A gracious Kayla let her off the hook, noting that Ava was under heavy, sanity-altering medication. When a grateful Ava came closer, Kayla inched away from her. Ava reiterated that she wishes there was something she could do to repay Kayla's kindness. Kayla urged her to do some good with her late father's fortune.
Philip dropped by the Brady Pub only to find that it was closed early. But Pete, the employee who was tidying up, recognized Kiriakis as Bo's half brother and let him in. When Pete went to the back, Phil let in a shady man to talk about a secretive financial transfer. As the man was on his way out, Chloe arrived and wanted to know what was going on. Philip kept mum, then poured drinks and they flirted. She asked him to help her forget about Brady. As long as this isn't just about getting back at Victor, warned Kiriakis, saying he doesn't like to be used.
At the DiMera mansion, Lucas demanded to know how long Sami has been having sex with EJ. He didn't believe this was the first time. She protested that Lucas was the one who broke off communication with her while he was in Statesville. Lucas admitted that he understood how Sami could move on, but not the man she decided to do that with. As she insisted that she hadn't gone to bed with EJ before, the Brit walked in and confirmed that she's telling the truth. Sami quietly asked him to leave them alone. After EJ walked out, John came in and demanded to know who Lucas is and why he is addressing Sami "with such disrespect." Sami politely asked John to stay out of it, just then Marlena came in, thrilled to see Lucas. When Lucas made a comment about EJ, Marlena assured him that he has nothing to worry about. That's when Lucas filled her in on catching Sami in bed with EJ. Marlena, though shocked, insisted that Lucas has nothing to worry about. Lucas called Sami a whore, which did not please John, who told him off. Marlena also warned Lucas to cool it. Lucas and Sami resumed arguing. She blasted him over sending her an e-mail, which pushed her away, recounted the ways EJ has helped her with the twins and said that EJ's been a better husband than Lucas lately.
EJ took a walk and ran into Nicole outside the closed pub. She apologized for her boozy visit to the mansion and he observed that she drinks too much. Nic asked for EJ's help with an urgent matter. Pookie is better and can be released from the animal hospital, but not until the following day. Nicole couldn't wait that long and asked him to use legal means to break out the pooch that night. EJ was sick of hearing about Pookie, but said he'd help under one condition, he had a question for Nicole: "What is wrong with you?" He asked why all she cares about is money, booze and Pookie. He said that she's really intelligent, but hides it well and suggested that she go back to school or get a job. She responded that something always goes wrong, just like in her love life. Maybe she's looking in the wrong places, he said. She took this as an invitation, but he reminded her about Sami. When EJ told Nicole that Lucas is home, she warned that Sami only ever loved two people: herself and Lucas.
Ava returned to Kayla's room in hospital scrubs and produced a photo of the baby, so that Kayla could see her son.... Philip and Chloe agreed to be friends with benefits.... Marlena ordered her daughter and Lucas to stop yelling at each other. He tried to storm out in a huff, but was thwarted by the beeping monitor on his ankle.
Friday
Lexie walked into the University Hospital locker room, where she ran into Daniel. They commiserated over their lack of sleep and long hours. Dr. Jonas listened supportively as she confided about her marriage problems and concerns over Theo's development. Lexie said that she's going to see a child psychologist. Abe dropped by to invite Lexie to breakfast, she was too busy with work, which started an argument. Lexie relented and agreed to grab a bite. A short time later, Daniel saw that the pair had spent time together and privately encouraged Lexie before going on his way. Abe observed the moment and called out his wife over discussing their relationship with Daniel.
Marlena brought breakfast on a tray to Sami, who had clearly spent the night crying. She worried that Lucas will never forgive her for hopping into the sack with EJ. Meanwhile, Lucas was feeding Allie when EJ walked in and suggested that they keep their living arrangement civilized. Lucas had another idea: EJ should move out. Sami Marlena strolled in and Doc Evans advised the men to stop quarreling. Lucas vowed to take his daughter and leave. Rolf brought in a gift for EJ: a bottle of wine and a note from Nicole, thanking him for last night. Sami flipped out and started ranting about Nic, which infuriated Lucas. They continued lobbing accusations at each other. Afterward, Rolf brought warm milk to Sami, who was crying on her bed. She didn't like it, so he pulled out a flask and offered to add a splash, but she thought it was too early in the day. Sami apologized for snapping at Rolf when he brought in the gift from Nicole. Rolf endeared himself by making fun of Nicole's lousy taste in wine.
Philip ran into Morgan at the Brady Pub and asked if she's always so dressed up at breakfast. After a brief phone call from her dad, Morgan and Philip argued over Paul's woes. John walked up and came to Paul's defense, but Morgan lashed out at John for getting her father in trouble. Philip thanked Morgan for sticking up for him; she said that when it comes to John, Philip is, "the lesser of two evils." Afterward she returned to her table for a study session with Chelsea. Talk turned to Daniel and Chelsea told her about the kiss in the locker room. They were interrupted by Philip, who had a proposal for Morgan. When Chelsea went to get some coffee, Philip offered to have the DA go easy on Paul if Morgan will get him to share whatever info he has on John. Chloe, also very glammed up for so early in the day, spotted the pair and wanted to know what was going on. Chloe introduced herself to Morgan, mockingly praising Morgan's youth and Southern accent. Philip hauled Chloe away from the table. Daniel strolled in and asked for a moment with Chelsea. Morgan excused herself, saying she had to go to her internship. At another table, Chloe snidely remarked that Philip's "girlfriend" is leaving. As she got ready to exit in a huff, Chloe literally bumped into EJ, who invited her to sit with him. Tossing Philip a look, she eagerly accepted.... Daniel apologized for kissing Chelsea, saying he, "crossed the line." Chelsea said she needs someone who is sure of his feelings for her like —Nick, pointing out that she gave him up for Daniel.
Roman arrived at the DiMera manse to help with John's investigation. Marlena was happy to see her ex-husband, but John rudely asked him to leave, threatening to physically remove him. Realizing that John is jealous of Roman, Marlena urged him to cooperate. John caught Roman looking at the huge painting of Marlena and made cracks about how Roman can't have it.
Lucas came up to Sami's room. She apologized for having sex with EJ and for all the things she said to Lucas. He responded with a long kiss.
As Chloe chatted with EJ and stared at Philip, the sirens blared on the docks. At the DiMera estate, Roman reported that the fracas at the docks is related to John's shipments.
