Monday
Philip volunteered to take Belle and Claire home and mentioned stopping for ice cream. Belle accused him of using Claire to get to her. Philip swore he had "no agenda" and suggested taking Claire to see Sami, filling Belle in about the wedding shootout. Philip and Claire left, and Belle phoned Shawn.
Bo, with Shawn by his side, asked Lucas if he shot EJ. Lucas swore he was home tending to the twins and wouldn't have left them to go shoot Sami's husband. Bo asked about Kate and informed Lucas that she'd threatened Stefano earlier. Bo and Shawn left, and Bo asked Shawn to go to the station and write up a report. Meanwhile Lucas took out his gun and packed it in a box. A messenger arrived, and Lucas instructed him to send the package by ground. The messenger noticed the address label and commented on Lucas sending the package to himself.
At the church, Roman flashed back to EJ's shooting. Abe asked where Roman was when it happened. Roman gave his alibi and noted that Bo had taken his gun away. A forensic agent and another cop discussed finding three spent bullet casings from three different locations. Abe noted three different guns were used. Hence, there were three separate shooters. Alone, Roman recalled aiming a gun at EJ, hearing three shots, then leaving.
Stefano told Sami that EJ might not live to see his son grow up because of her. Sami swore she had nothing to do with the shooting. Stefano said it was Sami's family, citing Roman as his top suspect. "My father is not a murderer," insisted Sami. Stefano asked what Sami thought Roman might have done if he'd caught Sami and EJ the night Johnny "was conceived." Sami admitted Roman would have killed EJ, but it would have been justifiable homicide. Stefano stormed off. Then, Philip, Claire and Belle arrived to lend Sami support. Lucas arrived next. Sami told him she couldn't go home while EJ was in surgery. It would set Stefano off. Lucas said the vendetta was over. Sami swore it wasn't. She had to stay and pretend she cared about EJ. Roman arrived, and Sami asked if he shot EJ. Roman swore he didn't. Then he noticed a bullet hole in Sami's dress. "Maybe EJ wasn't the only one who was supposed to die tonight," said Roman.
Kate arrived at the DiMera mansion and Rolf inspected her purse, having heard about her earlier gun-wielding. Stefano returned, grabbed Kate by the neck, and asked if she shot EJ. Kate insisted she didn't. Bo interrupted to question Stefano about Kate's earlier threats. Kate pooh-poohed the whole thing, and Stefano headed back to the hospital.
Bo asked where Kate was at the time of EJ's shooting and where she got a gun. Kate said she took a drive and bought a gun off the street for protection, but decided she didn't want it and threw it in a dumpster. Before leaving, Bo instructed Kate not to leave town. Bo went to the station, where Abe asked about Roman's gun. Bo said he took it and still had it, but admitted Roman had others. Abe noted that Shawn took off without saying where he was going. Bo was perturbed. Later, Kate got a call from Philip, asking what she was doing with a gun. Kate didn't want to discuss it. Philip insisted they would, the next morning. He still had the gun, and if Kate wasn't straight with him, he'd take it to the cops.
Shawn got his messages from Belle and raced home. Meanwhile, Belle and Philip returned to her room above the pub. Philip began professing his love and reminding Belle about their romp in the sack. Belle called it a mistake and asked Philip to go. Then, Philip kissed her, and she responded. Belle broke it off, telling Philip to go. Philip gave Belle a card with his private number on it. He told her to call him anytime and left. Shawn arrived, and he and Belle discussed Claire's accident and his work on the shooting case. Shawn noticed Claire's new Teddy bear and realized Philip drove mother and child home. Belle explained what happened and implored Shawn not to worry about Philip. She'd made it clear she was taken and told Philip she and Shawn had set a wedding date. Shawn was relieved and kissed Belle, while she remembered her romp with Philip.
Tuesday
Roman arrived at the hospital, telling Stefano he was there on official business. Stefano swore if EJ died, there was no Brady who would have a moment of peace. Dr. Berman emerged, and Roman asked if they'd removed the bullet from EJ. Dr. Berman admitted it was too risky. Stefano probed the doctor, who informed him EJ was paralyzed from the waist down. Stefano went to his son's beside. EJ called out for Sami and asked what happened. Stefano told EJ he was shot after he and Sami married.
Hope showed up at the church and asked if Bo had any leads on EJ's shooter. Bo said he had clues and suspects, but few leads. There were three shooters, and one was a good shot. Hope asked about Roman's place on the suspect list, then noted that he would never kill anybody. Bo admitted there were lots of suspects, like Lucas. Hope doubted Lucas would have done it. Bo mentioned Kate threatening the DiMeras earlier that day with a gun and how she claimed to have tossed it in a dumpster. Bo suspected Kate still had it. Roman arrived and informed Bo and Hope that EJ's surgeon couldn't remove the bullet in his spine. Bo wished he could get his hands on Kate's gun and suggested Roman spy on her. Roman refused, and the Brady brothers got into it. Roman swore if a judge ordered a search warrant, he'd be the first one at Kate's door, but he wouldn't work behind her back.
Sami told Lucas that if EJ died, Stefano was coming after them. Lucas promised they'd deal with it together, and they embraced. Sami noted that Stefano wanted her to go back to the hospital to be there for EJ. Lucas didn't care what happened to EJ. He got what he deserved and if Stefano came after them, he'd get the same. Sami said EJ was just trying to end the violence. Lucas reminded her how EJ forced her into getting married, threatening Stefano would kill everyone she loved. "If EJ doesn't pull through, that is exactly what's going to happen," noted Sami, mentioning something else that happened at the wedding: One of the bullets was meant for her. Lucas found the idea crazy. The phone rang and it was Stefano, noting that EJ was awake and asking for Sami. Sami told Lucas she had to go.
At the hospital, Stefano told EJ that Sami was on her way there. EJ realized he couldn't feel his legs and freaked out, realizing he was paralyzed. Stefano implored his son not to give up hope. EJ wanted Stefano to leave. Sami arrived and Stefano told her EJ needed his wife by his side. Stefano expected Sami's complete devotion. In turn, Sami expected Stefano to end the violence. Since Sami family "gunned down"
his son, Stefano called their truce as fragile as Sami's twins.
Kate met Philip to talk about the gun. She swore it had nothing to do with EJ's shooting. She'd bought the gun for protection, but never fired it. Philip noted there was powder residue on the handle. He demanded Kate tell him who shot it or he'd give it to the cops. Kate claimed she'd taken a few practice shots. Philip asked who gave Kate the gun, and she said it was a business associate. Philip didn't believe a word of it and asked Kate exactly what she did last night. Kate admitted going to the mansion and threatening to shoot EJ because of something he said to Lucas, but not going through with it. Then she went to the church and took out her gun, but couldn't decide who she hated more, EJ or Sami. Kate closed her eyes and her gun accidentally went off, just as she heard two other shots. Kate insisted she didn't shoot EJ, because the last person she was aiming at was Sami. Philip agreed to get rid of the gun, but urged Kate to come clean with Bo. Kate refused.
Wednesday
Chelsea, Stephanie and Morgan waited outside the dean's office for Ford's hearing to begin. Morgan said there wouldn't be any way to prove Ford drugged her. Cordy's testimony was the only way to nail him as the campus rapist. Dean Lochlan emerged with Billie and Jett and said Ford was on his way to present his side of the case. Ford arrived asking that they hurry things up because he had a date. Morgan accused Ford of drugging her and trying to rape her. "Can you prove it?" asked Ford, adding no one would believe her over the son of a board member. Chelsea got into it with Ford, while Steph flashed back to being attacked. Ford's wealthy lawyer father, Crawford, arrived and exchanged big hellos with his good pal the dean. Chelsea phoned Cordy and left a message. Ford and his dad entered the dean's office. Finally, Cordy arrived and sobbed that she couldn't testify. Steph flashed back to her attack.
Kayla entered the church to find Steve checking out the shooting site.
She began barraging him questions, finally cutting to the chase: "Where were you when EJ was shot?" Steve said he was at an auto shop buying a part for his car, but it was out of stock and he doubted anyone would remember him.
Kayla reminded Steve of the vows they made to each other in that church — namely, his promise never to lie to her. "Did you shoot EJ?"
demanded Kayla. Steve swore he didn't and suggested they leave. On his way out, Steve remembered EJ's shooting — where he heard gunshots, put his gun away and left the church.
Sami arrived at EJ's hospital room and asked how he was feeling. EJ said he couldn't move his legs. Sami offered her condolences, but EJ didn't buy it. She recounted how she'd held him when he was shot and sat with Stefano waiting to hear his prognosis. EJ didn't want his new bride's pity. Sami told EJ his condition might not be permanent. EJ ordered Sami to leave and be with Lucas. Sami asked about the vendetta. "Talk to my father and say this is what I want," instructed EJ, noting that he wanted Sami to go be happy with Lucas. She ordered EJ to stop feeling sorry for himself, but he insisted he had nothing to live for. Sami mentioned their son. EJ went on about not being able to chase after Johnny when he took his first steps or teach him to ride a bike.
Sami wanted EJ to fight. EJ wanted her to leave. She finally did, leaving Johnny's picture with him.
Lucas told Kate he wanted his gun back. He didn't want the police finding it and tracing it back to him. Kate said she gave the gun to Philip and explained how she'd threatened EJ and Stefano with it. Lucas demanded to know if Kate shot EJ, or Sami for that matter. Kate swore she didn't. She told Lucas she was sure Philip had disposed of the gun.
Lucas was somewhat relieved. If the police found the gun or found out he bought two guns the night EJ was shot, he'd go to the top of their suspect list. Kate asked if Lucas shot EJ, offering to cover for him. Lucas said it was a matter of time before they were both suspects in the shooting. Sami returned home. After Kate left, Sami told Lucas that EJ was paralyzed, had given up all hope, and urged her to go home to him and be a family. Lucas wondered how they could do that when Sami was still married to EJ. He encouraged Sami to lay down and get rest, while he went to tend to the twins. Colleen appeared to Sami, telling her she knew what she had to do to save EJ. Back at the hospital, it looked like it might be too late, as EJ began convulsing and his monitors sounded off. Stefano panicked as doctors and nurses raced in to save him.
Thursday
Cordy sobbed to Billie and her sorority sisters that she couldn't testify against Ford, as everyone tried to convince her she had to. Chelsea recounted what happened between her and Dr. Rebert and how she immediately reported him to the hospital. Cordy went on about her parents being poor and not having the money to fight this in court. Besides, no one knew what she was going through. Stephanie, who was having flashbacks of her attack, blurted out that she did. Then, she quickly amended her words, noting that her mom had been raped and felt ashamed and like it was her fault, too, but she did report it. The gals encouraged Cordy not to be a victim and to take a stand. Finally, she agreed. Ford appeared and stared at her. Cordy relented. Morgan said she'd testify against Ford. She gave it her best shot, but Crawford made mincemeat out of her, noting Morgan had no proof Ford had spiked her drink and there were no witnesses to the supposed attack. To the sorority gals' horror, Ford was let go. Chelsea, however, had a plan: making sure everyone knew exactly what Ford had done. She suggested covering the entire campus with flyers telling all. After some hesitation, the sisters agreed to help.
Colleen tried to talk Sami into helping EJ, but she wasn't very receptive and told her look-a-like to stop annoying her. The pair went back and forth about EJ. "If he died, would you be able to live with yourself?" asked Colleen, urging Sami to tell EJ she loved him. Sami refused to lie to EJ. She loved Lucas. "Telling him you love him won't change how you feel about Lucas unless it's true. Is that what you're afraid of?" wondered Colleen. Meanwhile, Philip arrived at the door, and Lucas went out to the hall to talk to him. Lucas asked for the gun he gave Kate. Philip said he threw it in the lake and asked why Lucas wanted it so badly. Lucas explained that there was a bullet hole in Sami's dress. He was determined to find out if Kate's gun was responsible for it. Sami came out saying she had to run errands and asked Lucas to watch the twins. When Lucas went back into the apartment, Philip pulled the gun out of his pocket.
As doctors worked to save EJ, Stefano stepped into the hall and begged God to save his son. "What makes you think He'd listen to you?" asked Tony. Dr. Berman emerged noting that EJ had a fever and an infection. They were giving him antibiotics and doing all they could for him. Stefano told Tony he summoned him to help restore EJ's will to live.
Tony thought Stefano should be the one trying to save EJ's life, since he was responsible for almost destroying it. Kate arrived, and Stefano implored her to talk to EJ. After some coaxing, Kate agreed. She apologized to EJ for going to the mansion and threatening him, but swore she didn't shoot him. EJ went on about how Stefano taught him to take whatever he wants. That's why he took Sami, even though he knew she loves Lucas. EJ asked Kate to get Stefano. She obliged, then phoned Sami and told her to get to the hospital at once. EJ was dying. Stefano went in to talk to EJ, who asked him to get him a gun. Stefano returned to the hallway and recounted EJ's request to Tony and Kate.
Sami arrived, entered EJ's room, and picked up the picture of her and Johnny. When she called out EJ's name, he opened his eyes and asked why she was there. She should be home with Lucas, the man she loves. "What if he's not?" asked Sami.
Friday
Bo questioned a huffy Kate about EJ's shooting and wanted her to cough up her gun. "You don't have probable cause," she said of his threat to search her place. She kept insisting she threw the weapon into a dumpster, which Bo LOL-ed at. "You haven't cried since you found out there wasn't a tooth fairy," he cracked at her attempts to evoke sympathy. Roman joined the party as they insisted Kate give another statement. When a search of her digs turned up a gun, Roman wondered if she wanted to change her story.
Caroline teased a jumpy Shawn about his impending Thanksgiving wedding, laughing, "I'd give up Christmas and the Fourth of July to host this party."
Shawn then caught Steve sneaking around the pub. Steve trumped up excuses and ran off, calling someone and saying he didn't get "it." (How cryptic!) Later, Bo caught up with Shawn at the pub, chiding him for running off half-cocked when Claire got sick. "The department has to be your top priority," he warned. Shawn copped to it (hee!) but hoped this didn't blow his chances. Then, Shawn revealed Steve's squirrelly behavior and what Steve was looking for: a gun. Bo praised Shawn's very cop-like instincts. Steve returned to the pub looking for chowder for Kayla (only not really). Of course, Bo caught him.
Billie dropped by Lucas's place, hoping for good news. What she got instead?
News about Sami being with EJ. Big sis Billie noted Lucas is in "bad shape."
He told her he plans to sue for sole custody of his as yet unnamed daughter.
Billie was shocked the custody issue is on the table and told Lucas to inform Sami. At University Hospital, Sami told morose and angsty EJ, "You sound downright pathetic," and insisted she was there of her own accord, not because Stefano put her up to it. "I care about you," she told him, urging him to live for his son. Lucas boggled over Sami and EJ's connection, insisting it's why he needs a lawyer: "I don't trust her. Not anymore." Meanwhile, Sami cited her contentious relationship with Lucas and Will in the past as a precedent for her, EJ, and Johnny. Lucas and Billie kept going rounds on the Ejami issue as the couple in question did their own snarky back-and-forth about EJ's paralysis. No dummy, EJ knew Sami was just saying what he wanted to hear. He refused to "allow" her to chain herself to "half a man." Back at Lucas', a surly Will was hauled home for underage drinking. He revealed how unhappy he is over their whole family situation and he and Lucas realized it was best for him to move to Carrie and Austin's. Lucas called Will's new Swiss school, then assured him that he's a great kid who "needs a stable home." The two shared a heartfelt goodbye and a hug. Back at Memorial, weak and whiny EJ told Sami to leave. Instead, she climbed into bed with him. "If you're going to will yourself to die, I'm going to make you do it in my arms."
