DAYS Week of November 30, 2009
Monday
At the Brady Pub, Arianna fought with Gabi for helping Nicole escape, but Gabi insisted she had no idea what she was doing. Rafe came upon them quarreling. He asked if they had seen Sami, but they hadn't. All three sibs were on edge. Roman came in and he and Rafe tried to figure out where Nicole could have gone. They assumed a big city nearby, like Cleveland or Chicago. Rafe told Roman that Sami was with EJ. Will overheard them talking about Sydney's disappearance and asked what was going on. Roman told him, then asked Will to poke around to see if anyone he knows heard or saw something on the pier the night before.
Sami went to the DiMera mansion to see EJ. She showed him the bracelet that Nicole sold. EJ was frustrated that they didn't have any more information. Sami told him that they had to work together to find Sydney. She asked him if Stefano was behind Syd's disappearance. He said no because his father was more of a planner and this didn't seem like his M.O. EJ and Sami both blamed themselves. Sami wondered if Nicole would turn to Brandon, Fay or Taylor. EJ wasn't sure. Sami looked through Sydney's baby book. She worried they wouldn't get the baby back. He vowed they would. Rafe decided to see what was taking Sami so long at EJ's and took off. He got to the manse and took Sami home, where he promised he would get Sydney back.
Brady left Nicole a message, imploring her to call him. After, he went to the Brady Pub to see Ari. He heard her squabbling with Gabi and defended her to the teen. Gabi and Brady took their conversation outside. She wanted to call Rafe, but her phone was dead. Brady gave his cell to her; she noted that he had called Nicole a lot since the night before. They argued.... Gabi put up "Missing" flyers for Sydney. Will saw her doing it and she introduced herself as Rafe's sister. "You're the one who helped Nicole get away," he said.
In Cleveland, Nicole greeted her mother, Fay. Fay was thrilled to meet her granddaughter, but realized from Nicole's new, dark hair and clothes that she was in big trouble. "Are the DiMeras after you?" Fay asked. Nicole said they were and told her mom she needed her help getting out of the country. Knowing that it would get Fay on her side, Nic "explained" that EJ was abusing her and she needed to get away from him. Fay promised to help. She returned with everything Nicole asked for — including a disposable cell phone — and asked Nicole to stay in touch. Nicole said she couldn't because she worried the DiMeras would harm Fay to get info on Nic. Fay understood, then shared a quick good-bye with Nicole and Sydney. Before Fay left, Nicole tearily told her she was a good mother and she loved her. Fay was overwhelmed and told Nic she loved her, too.... The phone rang back at the DiMera manse. EJ picked up; it was Nicole.
Stephanie and Philip worked together on a hospital project and were happy that they were able to be civil with each other. He asked if she wanted to work with him to keep Nathan and Melanie apart, but she said she wasn't into playing dirty tricks like that.
Nathan and Melanie had coffee at Java. She noted how "super into" him Stephanie is. He assured Mel she had nothing to worry about. Melanie confessed that while she was definitely over Philip, she kissed him the night before. Nate wasn't sure how to react. She told him the story about Mark coming from Europe and demanding the money she owed him and her then giving Philip a grateful kiss for getting her out of the situation. "I told Philip to just leave me alone," she added.
Tuesday
Bo and Roman discussed the Sydney situation. Roman then got personal and advised Bo to drop his obsession with Carly. Bo told Roman there was more to the story. Roman warned him that he should work on getting his marriage back on track. Bo took off.
Carly tracked down Hope at the Cheatin' Heart to try and work things out. "Are you going to admit you came back to Salem to steal my husband?" Hope asked. Carly insisted that wasn't her intention. Carly revealed she was moving out and suggested Hope rebuild her life with Bo. Hope said that while she was relieved Carly wouldn't be living with Bo, it didn't mean Bo was going to walk away from her. Bo entered and said, "That's right. I'm not gonna walk away." Awkward. Carly excused herself to give them space. Once alone, Bo and Hope talked. Bo tried to say that everything would be different now that Carly was moving out, but Hope felt he would still be attached to her. Hope went to leave; he kissed her and told her he loved her. She couldn't say it back and hurried out.
Vivian and Victor went bird watching. She questioned him about Kate's marriage to Stefano. She noted that he had the last laugh because Kate was already annoyed by Vivian's arrival in Salem.
Kate visited Philip and told him that Viv was back in town. She added that Viv had attached herself to Victor. He cracked that perhaps Victor was lonely and wanted to wed again. Kate poked around about Vivian. Philip pointed out that his mother was jealous and was worried that Vivian was going to take her place with him and Victor. Philip told her to leave. Vivian and Victor entered. "It's him. Philip. My son!" Vivian exclaimed, then hugged him. Philip was perplexed. Vivian asked for an update on Philip's life. "Over the last 10 years? That might take awhile," Phil replied. Vic pulled Kate out of the room to give "mother and son a little alone time." Kate fumed that Victor was enjoying it all. Victor mused that he found Vivian uplifting. He told Kate to leave so he, Vivian and Philip could have a family reunion. When Vivian kept referring to Philip as her son, he asked for a moment alone with her. Victor left the room. Philip told Viv they were going to get a few things straight.
Nicole called EJ, who demanded to know where his daughter was. Nicole assured him Sydney was safe and explained that she was making a good-bye call to him. He asked if she was out of her bloody mind. "You can't just get out of jail and kidnap somebody's child and things are just gonna end okay," he pointed out. Nicole was sure she was doing the right thing. He warned her she'd be caught but she wasn't concerned. They argued; she hung up on him. EJ called the cops to see if the cell was traced, but it wasn't. Stefano offered to call his men, but EJ said no. Stefano warned that Roman would bungle it up "like he does everything" and added that EJ was making a terrible mistake. EJ strongly instructed his father to respect his decision or else he'd never see his grandchildren again. EJ was about to leave when Stefano stopped him to note that his son trusted the Bradys more than his own family. EJ shot back that the only person he trusted was himself. EJ brought up Tony, which upset the Phoenix. EJ announced he was breaking away from Stefano like Tony did. Stefano asked if he could bring Nicole and Sydney home as a last gesture of love. EJ told him to stay away. Kate returned home and asked how things went with EJ. Stefano admitted he was worried he could lose his son and his grandchildren. Kate dropped the bomb that Vivian was back in town.
In Cleveland, Nicole summoned Fay back to her room. She told her mother she needed a fake passport. Fay thought a sketchy guy at her diner might know where to get one. Nic implored her to get in touch with him. Fay did and told Nicole that the passports would cost a lot of money, every penny Fay gave Nicole. Nic didn't care, insisting she had to get away from EJ. Fay met with the sketchy guy, then arranged a pickup at the bus station. Nicole thanked her for coming through for her.
Gabi reacted to Will saying it was her fault Nicole got away with Sydney. Arianna came in and defended Gabi, which annoyed the teen. She took off. Ari followed. Gabi again confronted her sis about the drugs. Ari insisted they weren't hers, but couldn't explain further. "I will not let you or Rafe or mom down ever again. I promise," she said. After, Ari called Roman. They met up and she told him that she had a new boss. He wasn't too thrilled. She said she needed money fast so it would look like she was moving product. He asked what lit a fire under her. She said she wanted her life back and for her family to be proud of her. "What happened to me in college, what I did, it was so stupid and I just wanna get past that and fast," she elaborated. She vowed to bring down the big boss just as EJ entered.
Will ran into Gabi at Java Café and apologized for what he said earlier. She accepted his apology and told him she hoped everything worked out.
Wednesday
EJ came in to the Brady Pub while Arianna was meeting with Roman. He approached their table and noted they seemed wrapped up in their conversation. Ari hurried off.
Rafe and Sami were frustrated to receive false leads on Sydney. Sami vowed to make Nicole pay. The phone rang: It was Roman. He told her he thought they might have a lead and asked her to come to the Pub. She and Rafe took off. At the Pub, EJ revealed that Nicole called him and Roman was trying to determine her location. Sami thanked EJ for going to Roman. "I'm trying something new. I think to myself, 'What would my father do?' And then I do the opposite," he explained. Roman got a call and reported that they might not be able to trace the call. Sami went ballistic and twisted her ankle in the process. EJ broke her fall. Rafe calmed her down and assured her they would get Sydney back.
In Cleveland, Nicole was about to leave her room when the woman who she leased it from showed her the cover of the paper that had photos of Nicole and Sydney and a story about the kidnapping. Nicole tried to deny it at first, then explained that her husband was abusive and she was running away from him. Marge didn't care and threatened to call 911 if Nicole didn't pay. Nicole turned it around and threatened to report Marge's bedbug-infested establishment if she did that. Marge told her to scram.
At the bus station, Nicole met with the shady guy who had the fake passports. He wanted more money from her, but she only had $100 left for bus tickets. He grabbed the cash, gave her the passports and left. A dejected Nicole sat down next to woman who asked to play with Sydney. Nicole said yes, then swiped the woman's cell phone when she was with Sydney and threw out her own disposable one.
Vivian wanted to take a photo of Philip on her cell phone to send to her friends and show was a gorgeous son she had. Philip told her in no uncertain terms that she wasn't his mother and never would be. She said she was hurt, but he accused her of playing games with him. He told her to get out of his life and stay out. She said she could be like the mother he never had.
Melanie and Brady ran into each other at the Cheatin' Heart, where he was putting up fliers about Sydney. He told her he and Arianna had split. They argued over his feelings for Nicole. Ari came in. Melanie excused herself. Ari asked if Brady heard form Nicole. He said no, but he felt that he could convince her to come back if she called. "Because of the great love you two share, right?" she sniffed and took off. Nicole called Brady. He was surprised to hear from her and urged her to come home. She said she couldn't. They caught up and he told her he and Ari had broken up because of her. He said he didn't blame Nicole. "See, I should hate you, and I don't... I can't," he explained and again implored her to return to Salem. Nic considered it, then her phone battery died so their call got cut off. He went to the Pub to tell the group that Nicole had called.
Melanie's friend Alicia met her for lunch. Mel went on about Nathan. Philip came in to the bar. Alicia left. Melanie could tell something was bothering Philip and asked why he was drinking during the day. He told her about his Vivian encounter. "My incubator mom is back and she wants to coddle me, make up for lost time," he explained.
Nathan checked Stephanie's ankle at the hospital. He noted that things had been awkward between them. He started to tell her what Melanie said about him, but she stopped him, noting she could guess. "Melanie seems to think that I have a thing for you, right?" Steph asked. He admitted that when he first met her, he thought she could be a potential mate for him, but he didn't want to get caught up in her Philip drama. She admitted she had a thing for him so everything would be out in the open. Nathan thanked her for honesty, then stammered, which made her realize he wanted Melanie. An embarrassed Steph played it cool, but told him that she didn't think he and Melanie would be happy together. Nathan headed to the Cheatin' Heart and walked in just as Melanie and Philip were about to kiss.
Thursday
At the bus station, an unsure Nicole asked for a sign that taking Sydney to Canada was the right thing. The bus began to board; the driver asked Nic whether or not she was coming. She said she was, but stopped to call her mother from a pay phone. She decided not to board the bus, after all.
Will opened the penthouse door to find Lucas standing there. Lucas explained that he was let out of rehab early because he was an "exemplary patient." Will revealed that Sami had lost another baby and told his father what happened with Nicole. Lucas wondered how Nicole even knew Sami was pregnant. An uncomfortable Will said he thought Chloe had something to do with it.
Chloe tracked down Daniel at the hospital. She was upset that Nicole had taken off with Sydney and said she was to blame. Daniel insisted it wasn't her fault. He went back to work. Lucas found Chloe and ripped her for blabbing about Sami's pregnancy and ruining her life. Chloe said she felt horrible about what happened. "Really? Do you feel horrible about leaving me in the dark?" Lucas asked, then pointed out that she could have made an effort and visited him in rehab. Daniel came upon them fighting and defended Chloe. Chloe thanked her fianc after. He said he would "slay dragons" for her. "How'd I get so lucky?" she smiled.
Brady filled Sami, Rafe and EJ in about his phone conversation with Nicole. Brady felt that Nic might bring Sydney home. EJ was doubtful and he and Brady began to argue. Rafe intervened, then got word that they were able to trace Nicole's call and that she's in Cleveland. The group made plans to go, but EJ told Brady, "There is no ‘we' in Cleveland. You're not a part of this." More arguing ensued. Sami's cell phone rang. The caller ID showed a Cleveland area code. "Nicole? Nicole?" Sami said, but Nicole was passed out cold on the floor.
Stephanie delivered papers to Maggie's doorstep, but Maggie opened the door and found her there. Maggie asked if Steph was avoiding her. Steph admitted that she was feeling awkward after their last conversation, where Steph said she hoped Melanie didn't hurt Nathan. Maggie invited her in to chat and Steph confessed that she had admitted her real feelings to Nathan and was embarrassed.
Maggie spoke to Mickey, who was out of town working. Mia studied her French book in the kitchen. After, Maggie prepared Mickey's favorite meal and she and Mia had a heartwarming chat, where Mia told Maggie that she was a beautiful person. Mia thanked Maggie for taking her in and taking care of her.
Maggie came upon Lucas on the pier. She was thrilled to see him. He told her about his earlier incident with Chloe and Daniel. He lamented that he made the same mistakes over and over again. He also admitted that he was the one who betrayed Sami by betraying her trust and said he wouldn't be able to live with himself if Sydney wasn't returned. Maggie was proud of him for taking responsibility and gave him a hug.
Nathan walked into the Cheatin' Heart and caught Melanie and Philip about to kiss. Nathan exploded, demanding to know what was going on. Mel said it wasn't what Nathan thought. He asked if she would have kissed Phil had he not walked in. Melanie tried to explain and told him that she had feelings for both guys. He was through with the back and forth, but she cried and asked him for time. He told her there wasn't any more time. "We're done," he declared. Philip comforted her and revealed that he wasn't giving up on her.
Back at the hospital, a dejected Nate ran into Stephanie. He didn't want to talk at first, but then he opened up and admitted that he now felt as rejected as she did after she opened up to him earlier. He explained that Melanie made it clear she wasn't over Philip. Steph told him she was sorry.
Friday
Carly packed her bags in preparation for moving into Maggie's house. Bo asked if Carly was nervous that Vivian would come after her daughter, but Carly was sure Viv didn't know about her. Carly was unsure of how it would be to live with her daughter. She thanked Bo for being there for her when she needed him after Lawrence's murder. He hugged her. "Life ain't boring when you're around," he noted, coming out of the hug. Philip walked in at that moment to see if his brother wanted to have a beer. Bo introduced them, which was awkward when Philip referenced the fact that Carly married both Bo and Victor. Carly left, but told Philip, "Best to your father. You remind me of him." Bo chided his brother for being rude and asked why Philip was there. Phil said he wanted to talk to Bo about his problems, but wasn't sure Bo was the right person in light of the drama going on in his life. Philip told Bo about Vivian's visit earlier. Bo noted that Victor probably wasn't pleased, but Phil revealed that Viv and Vic seemed thick as thieves and that it seemed to delight Victor that Kate was bothered by Vivian's return. Bo took a work call. The doorbell rang: It was Nathan, who was there to see Hope. Bo headed to the station, then told Philip he would meet him for the beer at the Pub later. He also asked Philip to fill in Nathan about the Brady marriage. Philip apologized to Nathan about Melanie, but Nathan noted that Phil was not sorry. They faced off.
Nicole called Sami but didn't say anything. Sami called Nicole's name, but Nicole was passed out on the floor of the Cleveland bus station. Sami could hear the baby crying in the background. EJ grabbed the phone and vowed that Nicole would pay. At the bus station, an unseen person hung up the pay phone receiver. Rafe had the call traced and revealed that the cops in Cleveland were holding up all buses from leaving the station. EJ arranged travel on a commercial flight. Brady joined them on board and sat next to EJ, which was tense.
An unconscious Nicole was taken to a Cleveland hospital. She woke up and called out for Sydney. Sami, Rafe, EJ and Brady rushed in and asked where the baby was. A nurse revealed there was no baby with Nicole when she was brought in. EJ went inside and Nicole asked where Sydney was. EJ was alarmed. Rafe found a couple who saw Nicole and Sydney at the bus station and they told Sami and Rafe what they witnessed with Nic.
Melanie and Arianna had girl talk over Mel's breakup with Nathan. Arianna told Mel that while Nathan seemed great on paper, Mel never liked him like she did Philip. Mia came over to see what kind of muffin Melanie wanted and Melanie gave her a sarcastic reply, which upset Mia. Melanie felt bad for kicking the teen when she was down. Mia looked forlornly at the flier about Sydney and Nicole.
Carly went to Java and was surprised to see that Mia worked there. She placed an order, then chatted up the teen, who wasn't looking for small talk. Carly revealed she was moving into Maggie's later. Mia asked Carly to leave her alone once in Maggie's house. She quickly apologized for being rude, explaining that she feels awkward for opening up to Carly like she did. Carly backed away, accidentally spilling hot coffee all over a very angry Melanie. Carly bandaged her up. Gabi came in and asked her sister if there was any news about the baby. Ari said no, then introduced Mel to Gabi. Melanie took off. Gabi kept hammering Arianna about using drugs. Finally, Arianna pulled her sister outside and revealed that she was working undercover with the cops so Gabi needed to lay off the drug talk.
Mia ran into Bo at the Brady Pub and asked if had any information about Sydney. Bo said he did and asked her to sit down to talk. He asked for Mia's cell, saying he would call her when they had Sydney back. Philip came in to have a beer with his brother and complained about Nathan. He reported that he now had a shot with Melanie and he wasn't going to blow it this time.
Melanie returned home to find Carly in Maggie's kitchen. Mel was surprised that they had a new boarder. Mia walked in and the girls were both unenthusiastic about Carly being there. Dr. M offered to leave. Melanie said it was a good idea.
