DAYS Week of October 12, 2009
Monday
Chloe joined Nicole and Sydney at the pub. They discussed the dismal situation with EJ. Nicole insisted EJ would never turn his back on his little girl. Chloe pointed out he already had and asked about Sydney's real parents. Nicole insisted she and EJ were the child's real parents. Chloe suggested Nicole walk away from this whole mess. Nicole refused, insisting EJ would take her and Sydney back. "We are a package deal," she noted.
A dejected EJ wandered around the mansion. Kate walked in and told him his life was going to be much better now that "that lying bitch" Nicole was out of it. EJ walked into the foyer to find a pile of suitcases. Mary said Kate asked her to pack Nicole's things. Soon, Nicole returned, EJ instructed her to get her things and leave. Nicole announced she and Sydney were there to stay. She asked EJ if he'd missed his daughter and reminisced about Sydney. EJ ordered Nicole to stop. He told Sydney he loved her. Then, EJ ordered both mother and child out. He wasn't going to be a party to Nicole's lie anymore.
Chloe got a call from Lucas asking if she'd received the annulment papers. She had and thanked him. Lucas said he signed the papers as step nine in his 12-step program, making amends.
He said there was somethi ng Chloe could do for him: never see Allie again. Kate walked in and overheard. "Why can't you leave my son alone?" she asked, noting how she wished Chloe would slip back into a coma and die. Kate asked what Lucas and Chloe were talking about. Chloe said that was between them. Chloe dug it in that she and Daniel were having a happy ending and how it galled Kate. Alone, Kate doubted Victor would ever let Daniel and Chloe have a happy ending.
Victor went off on Bo about Kate walking the streets after poisoning Chloe and framing Daniel for it. He mentioned how Kate married Stefano and gained amnesty; then, a few days later, her husband was at death's door. Bo accused Victor of being jealous. Victor denied it, insisting Stefano was welcome to his ex. Speaking of exes, Victor picked up a newspaper and showed Bo the headline: Lawrence Alamain Dead. Bo wondered what happened and said he hoped Carly was okay. Victor advised his son to focus on his troubled marriage and not worry about Carly. Bo pointed out he hadn't talked to Carly in years and doubted he would. Victor said Bo was his only male heir to get it right when it came to affairs of the heart. He offered to find Hope and bring her home. Bo declined, noting Hope would return when she was ready.
Justin arrived at Hope's hotel room. Hope announced she needed a lawyer. She wanted to put Ciara in a private school like her psychologist recommended and didn't think Bo wo uld consent to it. Justin told her Bo said he would do anything in the world to save their marriage and asked if Hope felt the same way. Hope admitted Bo is the only man she ever loved. Justin advised Hope to tell Bo that and picked up the phone. Hope wasn't ready to make the call. She asked Justin to convince Bo to sign the consent forms, insisting she just wanted Ciara to be okay and for their family to be together again. Later, Hope talked to Ciara, who asked when they were going home. "Soon," promised Hope.
Carly was in a boat cabin perusing the article about Lawrence's murder and flashed back to killing him. Omar walked in and asked if she was seasick. Then, he remembered Carly lived on a boat years ago. Carly flashed back to a moment with Bo. Carly thanked Omar for fetching her at the airport. The conversation turned to Lawrence. Omar assumed Carly was fleeing the people who killed him. "No. I did it," confessed Carly. Omar imagined Lawrence must have done something horrible to drive her to murder. "He did," contended Carly. Omar assured Carly he wouldn't abandon her in her hour of need. Carly had another flashback of fighting with Lawrence. Omar returned. Carly said she wished she could have gotten to Salem last night. She knew Lawrence's men were on her trail. Carly asked Omar for a ship-to-shore phone. Omar brought her one, noting outgoing calls could be monitored. He suggested waiting until landfall to make contact.
Tuesday
EJ brooded in the DiMera mansion surrounded by memories of Sydney and Nicole. Finally, he left the house. Melanie found Brady brooding in the park. Brady admitted Nicole's house of cards had come crashing down. Melanie pressed for the details. Brady explained about Arianna learning that he was keeping a secret from Nicole and how he phoned Nicole in Paris and mentioned it to EJ. "What was the secret?" asked Melanie. Brady told her about Nicole's pregnancy, miscarriage, fake pregnancy, and, of course, the fact Sydney was adopted. Melanie assured Brady none of this was his fault. Brady didn't buy it and decided to head off for a jog. On his run, the ex-druggie saw a drug deal going down. Brady told himself he'd be fine. "Go to a meeting or something. Accept responsibility..." he said. EJ snuck up behind him, noting that was a good idea, since he was looking for someone to blame for destroying his life.
Will and Chad met up outside the pub and started bickering about Mia. When Chad split, Will muttered there was no way Mia was still into her ex. Something else was going on. Nicole arrived to talk to Mia. "The truth about Sydney is out. EJ knows," declared Nicole, nothing her hubby tossed them both out of the house. Mia was concerned. Now that EJ knew the truth, Sydney's life wouldn't be any better than if Mia had kept her. Nicole pointed out Mia was still in high school and didn't have a cent. Nicole swore she had things under control. She was sure EJ wouldn't be able to live without his daughter and would take them both back. Mia wasn't convinced. She lamented giving up the sweetest guy in the world, so Chad wouldn't go digging around. "I broke up with Will for nothing," she sighed. Nicole insisted that wasn't true and swore she wouldn't let this fall apart. Mia wondered how Chad would feel if he found out her rehab counselor adopted a baby. On cue, Chad walked in.
Sami phoned Nicole and left a message that she was there for her, if she needed help. Roman arrived at her door, followed by Arianna. "It's about Rafe, isn't it?" gasped Sami. Roman reported it was about Meredith. She'd disappeared right after Rafe. Arianna and Sami were suspicious and worried. Arianna left for work. Sami told Roman she thought something may have happened to Rafe. Later, Sami visited Grace's grave and asked her to keep a special eye out for her daddy.
Back at the pub, Arianna put in a drug order over the phone. Melanie arrived and told her Brady was a wreck. "What happened?" asked Arianna. "Apparently, you did," retorted Melanie, noting all hell broke loose after Arianna opened her mouth about Nicole's miscarriage. Arianna swore she hadn't meant to cause Brady pain. Melanie accused Arianna of messing up Brady's life.
Justin met Bo and reported he'd just been to see Hope. Bo was upset that Hope hadn't contacted him. Justin said Hope had a legal matter to discuss and gave Bo an envelope. Bo read the forms inside about transferring Ciara to a private school and was relieved they weren't divorce papers. Bo took out his pen and told Justin to tell Hope he signed them without reservation. Justin suggested Bo tell Hope himself. Justin noticed the article about Lawrence and noted the many enemies he had. Bo assumed Carly was in seclusion. Justin asked about Bo's relationship with her. Bo noted he and Carly were close, but his heart only belonged to one woman.
Hope packed her things, telling Ciara she was taking her back home to her daddy. Ciara went to draw Bo a picture. Hope found it later and was touched by the drawing of their family. Bo phoned to tell Hope he signed the papers, because he wanted what was best for her and Ciara. Hope informed Bo she was coming home. "It's the right thing for our daughter," she noted.
Omar brought Carly coffee and left. Alone, Carly hoped she could reach Bo in time and that he'd help her. Omar returned, noting the captain found a body in the water. "Bring it on board," said Carly, who promptly examined Rafe. Then, she gave him mouth-to-mouth. Rafe started to cough. Carly told Omar they had to get Rafe to a hospital. Carly tended to her patient, who took a turn for the worse. Soon, she was pounding on Rafe's chest and begging him to fight for his life.
Wednesday
"How do you think Chad would feel if he found out my rehab counselor adopted a baby?" Mia asked Nicole, just as Chad walked in. Chad confronted Nicole about her lies and demanded to know what was going on. Nicole said she was there counseling Mia. "You mean helping her lie," snorted Chad, accusing Nicole of coming up with that lame story about Mia being in rehab. Chad wondered if Mia told Nicole she had a baby and questioned the fact that Nicole adopted a child. He put two and two together and asked if Mia gave their baby to Nicole. Mia relented, admitting it was true. Nicole flashed back to the baby switch. Chad demanded to see his child. Nicole insisted Sydney wasn't his child. Chad challenged her to prove it with a DNA test. Mia stood by Nicole, noting Sydney had been adopted and that Nicole and EJ were giving her a good life. Nicole pointed out Chad was a broke high school kid. Chad wouldn't be deterred. He was Sydney's dad and wanted her to know him. Nicole urged Chad to let this go. Chad ran off.
EJ confronted Brady about knowing Nicole's dirty little secrets and helping her keep them from him. "I lost my whole family because of you," spat EJ, noting that everybody knew Brady was in love with Nicole. Brady countered that Nicole loved EJ, swearing the two of them were just friends. He insisted Nicole lied because she wanted to be with EJ and make him happy. "That's why she got Sydney," said Brady. EJ called Nicole "corrupt" and "morally vacant." Brady chastised EJ for tossing Nicole and Sydney out on the street. EJ said he didn't owe Brady an explanation. Brady said he was glad the way things turned out, because EJ didn't deserve a happy family.
Sami visited Grace's grave and rambled on about the missing Rafe. She asked Grace to look after him and left. Sami went jogging and ran into Brady. They discussed Nicole and EJ. Sami sympathized with Nicole, but couldn't believe she lied to EJ about having a miscarriage and brought a strange baby into his house. Brady wished EJ could have seen things from Nicole's perspective. Sami said she got why Nicole lied, but was shocked to find out Brady was involved in he the whole mess.
Carly worked to revive Rafe, insisting they had to get him to a hospital. Rafe remembered back to Sami caring for him in the safe house and called out for her. Carly went on about not wanting to watch Rafe die. The ghost of Lawrence emerged and asked if Carly was trying to atone for murdering him. Carly spat that she had to off Lawrence, before he killed her. She had no regrets. Lawrence promised his minions would find and punish her. Rafe continued dreaming of Sami. He opened his eyes and Carly turned into her. He called out, "Sam." Carly wondered who Sam was. Omar returned, and Carly gave him an update on Rafe's condition: the worst was over. Carly was concerned about the ship-to-shore signals for help Omar had sent out, certain they were monitored. If Rafe stayed with them, he'd be in danger because of her. She suggested pulling into a port and dropping her and Rafe off. Later, an attendant emerged and pulled a gun on Carly.
Daniel arrived home. Chloe greeted him with a kiss, when they heard a baby fussing in the background. Chloe fetched Sydney, explaining she was babysitting. The pair sensed something was amiss with the tyke. Turned out she needed a diaper change, which Daniel tended to. Chloe noted Daniel would make a terrific dad. Daniel wanted to rustle up some food, but Chloe noted the fridge was bare. Daniel suggested going out. Chloe noted that going out with Sydney would be good practice for when they had kids. Daniel made a face, noting they should talk about kids another time. Chloe thought Daniel didn't want to have children. Daniel insisted he wanted to take it slow. They'd start thinking about a family when the time was right. There was a knock at the door. It was Nicole, saying she needed her daughter right now.
Back at the mansion, EJ poured himself a drink, looked at a picture of Sydney, and remembered how she lit up his life. The doorbell rang. EJ answered it to find Chad. "Where is Sydney?" asked Chad, declaring he was the tyke's father.
Thursday
Bo was thrilled when Ciara ran into the house. "Mommy said we could visit a lot," she said. Hope sent Ciara upstairs and told Bo she wasn't ready to live under the same roof. Bo reminisced about their family and wanted Hope to look at a photo album. Hope didn't need to look at photos to remember the good times, but she also remembered the bad. Hope thought she and Bo had resentments they hadn't resolved. She mentioned Patrick and brought up the covering up Bo did for Chelsea when Zack died. Hope said the way Bo handled Ciara's ransom reopened old wounds. Bo didn't see the need to reexamine their past. "You got my heart. What more is there?" asked Bo. Hope was annoyed Bo couldn't accept she saw things differently than him. Ciara returned and Hope suggested father and daughter spend some time together. They'd talk about visitation later.
Brian pointed a gun at Carly, explaining he'd be receiving a hefty reward for helping the Alamains get justice for Lawrence's murder. Miraculously, Rafe rose to his feet and grabbed Brian's hand. Carly kicked Brian and took his gun. Later, Omar told Carly that Brian had been taken care of. Carly tended to Rafe, who was burning up with fever. Carly said they had to get him to a hospital. Omar left to get the boat cranked up. Rafe muttered, "The baby."
Sami asked Brady how he got caught up in Nicole's lies. Brady admitted being there when Nicole miscarried and how that baby was a chance for her to start a new life. Sami understood Nicole's desperation and why Brady helped her. He still loved her. Brady got annoyed and started to go. Sami apologized. She said she felt sorry for Nicole and wished she could help her.
Chad told EJ he was Sydney's father and demanded to see her. EJ informed Chad that Nicole had legally adopted Sydney. Chad said he hadn't signed anything, so the adoption couldn't be legal. EJ wanted Chad to tell him everything he knew.
Nicole barged into Daniel's apartment and grabbed Sydney. Chloe asked what happened. Nicole admitted everything was a total disaster. Nicole's phone rang and it was EJ — he wanted her and Sydney to come home. Nicole left. Alone, Daniel told Chloe they hadn't had sex since she got out of the hospital. Chloe tried to take care of that, pulling Daniel into a kiss, but there was a knock on the door. It was Victor, who was there to smooth things over regarding Chloe. Victor gave Daniel the pocket watch Daniel's father gave him the day he was christened, as a symbol of his effort to do better. Daniel informed Victor he and Chloe were living together; that is, until they got married. Daniel got a call and left. "I know you're unhappy about this," noted Chloe. Victor said he would give Chloe a chance for Daniel's sake. Outside, Victor muttered that Chloe would self destruct. Brady found Victor on the pier. When he ranted about Daniel being an idiot, Brady surmised this was about Chloe. "I'll be damned if she gets a shot at Daniel," he spat.
Nicole returned to the DiMera mansion and was stunned to see Chad. When she turned to leave, Chad stopped her. EJ instructed Nicole to put Sydney in her playpen, and Chad checked the baby out. EJ asked for a moment alone with Nicole and questioned her about Sydney's adoption. It wasn't done legally, was it? Nicole swore Mia wanted her to have her baby and started sobbing. EJ let Chad say goodbye to Sydney; then, told him to leave. Chad insisted this wasn't over. Nicole thanked EJ for doing what was right and asked if he was going to help her. Sami arrived in time to hear Nicole yell that she would die before she let Chad take her baby.
Will arrived to see Mia. They said they missed each other and hugged. Mia admitted she lied about her little girl — she knew where she was. Her daughter was with Nicole. Mia said Chad agreed to stop looking for their baby, if she gave up Will, but she didn't really want to break up with him. Chad showed up and demanded to know why Will was there. Mia was more concerned about what Chad had done.
Friday
Arianna arrived at the Kiriakis mansion to apologize to Brady. She felt awful about Nicole's secret coming out and EJ tossing her out on her ear. Brady thought Arianna was there to get a free pass on the guilt trip she caused herself. Arianna begged Brady to tell her what was wrong. He wasn't acting like himself and she was worried he was doing drugs again. Brady admitted he was hurting, but wasn't using. He wouldn't let anybody drag him down that destructive path. "Not even Nicole?" asked Arianna. Brady said Arianna seemed threatened by Nicole. Arianna wanted to leave. She'd hurt Brady, and he didn't deserve it because he was a great guy. "In a boring sort of way," cracked Brady. Ariannna insisted she never should have said that to him. She was confused at the time. Arianna said Brady was amazing, smart and everybody loved him. Brady pulled her into a kiss.
Chad told Mia he went to see Sydney and informed EJ he was her real dad. "You ruined everything," spat Mia. Chad didn't care and vowed to get his daughter back. "You can't take Sydney," implored Mia. Chad wouldn't be deterred, noting he knew Mia was playing him pretending to be his girlfriend again, when she was still into Will. "I had to protect my baby," said Mia. Chad called Mia a whore. Will lunged for him. Mia begged them to stop fighting. Mia admitted what she did was wrong and asked for a moment alone with Chad. Mia told Chad they had to do what was best for their little girl. Chad insisted he knew what was best for Sydney, and it wasn't Mia or Nicole. Chad vowed to get custody of his daughter and stormed off. Will asked if Mia was okay. Mia said as long as she had Will, she'd be fined. The pair professed their love. Will promised they'd get through this.
Sami asked Nicole what was going on, after hearing her say she'd die before letting someone take her baby. EJ said the matter was between him and Nicole and told Sami to leave. Maggie ran into an upset Sami, who admitted she was having trouble handling her grief over Grace, especially when something happened to bring it up again. She told Maggie she had a friend who might lose her baby and she'd do anything to help her. Alone, EJ told Nicole he was rethinking things. Nicole was pleased, until EJ revealed he wanted Sydney in his life but not her. Still, she pleaded Sydney's case. EJ sympathized with Chad, since he'd been in his position twice with mothers who kept him in the dark. He explained if Sydney's biological parents wanted her back, they could get her. Nicole said if she and EJ fought together, they could keep Sydney and keep their marriage alive. EJ ordered Nicole to leave. Sami returned, wanting to help. Nicole said she couldn't and left with Sydney. Sami ranted at EJ. She knew he was angry at Nicole, but he couldn't take it out on an innocent baby. EJ explained he'd just met Sydney's father, Chad. Sami realized that meant Mia was Sydney's mother. EJ noted that what Mia did to Chad was exactly what Sami did to him. Sami swore she'd do it all over again. She'd do anything to protect her kids. EJ countered that most parents would do anything for their children. Sami said if that was the case EJ would help Nicole keep Sydney.
Chloe returned home carrying flowers and groceries and was greeted by Daniel wearing nothing a towel. She dropped everything and while helping her pick things up, Daniel lost his towel. Soon, they were kissing passionately. Then, they decided to wait. Chloe's phone rang and it was Father Matt. The priest gave Chloe an update on her annulment from Lucas. Daniel returned dressed and Chloe explained her annulment had gone through. Chloe admitted feeling badly for Lucas, but got over it quickly when she and Daniel got hot and heavy.
Nicole went to see Stefano and poured her heart out about what was going on with her, EJ and Sydney. She explained how Chad was now in the mix and screwing everything up, because he wanted Sydney. She feared it was only a matter of time before the world knew Sydney was EJ and Sami's baby. Nicole fretted that the comatose Stefano couldn't help her. Then, she decided to think like Stefano. Nicole phoned Chad and asked him to meet her so they could work something out.
