Days Of Our Lives Recaps

DAYS week of October 15, 2007

Monday

The sorority sisters helped Morgan get ready for her date with Max, while Stephanie sulked. Soon, Cordy emerged, admitting she looked like a hooker. Morgan concurred. Her pal had overdid it a tad. Chelsea and Morgan rallied the gals to give Cordy a makeover. When Max and Ford arrived, Steph flirted back and forth with Ford. Max revealed that he was taking Morgan to the racetrack. Steph couldn't imagine Morgan getting down and dirty in the pit. Morgan walked in, followed by a gorgeous Cordy. Ford was floored. Max told Morgan he had a surprise for her. Morgan cooed, while Steph fumed. After the two couples left, Chelsea noticed Steph's bad mood and accused her of being jealous.

A sobbing Sami blamed EJ for John's hit and run, but he swore he wasn't responsible. As Sami and Lucas headed to the accident scene, EJ reminded them to be careful. No one was safe until he and Sami married. Meanwhile, Belle and Marlena tended to a bloody John. Marlena begged her husband to hang on, while the ambulance pulled up. Sami and Lucas arrived, and Sami blamed herself for what happened. Lucas insisted it wasn't Sami's fault.

Tony and Anna arrived at the hospital, where Stefano delivered the news that Andre had been murdered by Shawn Sr. Tony wasn't upset, considering Andre stole his life. Stefano told Tony that it was time for him to take his place by Stefano's side. Tony said he'd already lost 20 years. Now that he was back, he planned on living his life to the fullest. So Stefano's cycle of murder and mayhem would die with him. Tony left, and Anna followed. Suddenly, a gurney went by with John on it. Tony and Anna rushed over to Marlena.

EJ arrived in Andre's room and told Stefano that John was a better target to go after. Stefano seemed perplexed and announced that Andre was dead. "If Andre is dead, who hit John Black?" asked EJ. Stefano was shocked. He explained that Shawn Sr. murdered Andre, and he had no clue who ran down John. No matter, EJ was pleased. John's assailant put Sami exactly where he wanted her. Sami would marry him, because she'd think Stefano ordered the hit. EJ would finally have the woman he loved and unite the Brady and DiMera families. EJ left, and a messenger arrived with an envelope marked confidential. Inside was another envelope labeled with Sami's name and the words DNA results. Stefano opened it and seemed pleased.

Anna consoled Marlena when Dr. Berman emerged and said they were taking John into surgery. Marlena tried to be strong and asked Tony to pray with her and Belle. Tony declined and walked away with Anna, as Marlena and Belle began the Our Father. Lucas told Belle and Sami that he would go get Shawn. Alone, Tony lamented to Anna that he and John were brothers, yet didn't even know each other. Anna told Marlena that she and Tony were leaving so Marlena could spend time with her family. Marlena said Tony was family. Nevertheless, Tony and Anna left to see if there was any information on the driver who hit John. Dr. Berman returned and Marlena and Belle asked if John would be okay. Dr. Berman explained that John's injuries were extensive, many organs were damaged, and surgical repair was impossible. Marlena asked if her husband was going to be okay. EJ approached Sami, telling her that Andre was dead and that he'd tried to get Stefano to tell him who ran down John. Sami handed EJ the signed annulment papers, which she taped back together, and announced she'd marry him. Dr. Berman informed Marlena that John wouldn't make it thorough the night. Belle and Marlena sobbed and embraced, as Marlena said they had to call Bo, Hope and the rest of the family to come say goodbye to John.

Tuesday

Max fed Morgan chili fries at the pub, and they discussed their date.
Morgan admitted that she was loving every second of it. Outside, Chelsea arrived to find Stephanie spying on the twosome. Steph claimed to be looking out for Max. He wasn't Morgan's type. Steph was sure Morgan would use Max and dump him. Chelsea reminded Steph that she actually dumped Max. "I didn't think he'd rebound that quick," admitted Steph. Inside, Morgan spied Steph and told Max that she'd been tailing them all night. Morgan asked about their relationship. Max confessed that he and Steph had dated, but he didn't have feelings for her anymore. Meanwhile, Chelsea advised Steph to act if she still had "a thing" for Max. Steph said she didn't. Besides, she'd had her chance with him and blown it.

At the hospital, Belle phoned Hope and filled her in on the accident, while Dr. Berman explained that they'd upped John's dosage of morphine, so he'd be out of it for a while. Belle refused to believe there wasn't something they could do. Marlena said that sometimes all you can do is say goodbye, and she implored Belle to be strong. In the hall, Sami gave EJ the annulment papers, while he insisted he had nothing to do with John's accident. EJ noted that Lucas hadn't signed the papers. Sami promised to take care of that. Lucas arrived and asked what they were talking about. Sami announced that she was going through with the annulment. Lucas was stunned. Belle emerged and Sami asked about John. "They don't think he'll make it," cried Belle, as Sami embraced her sister. Belle recalled how it was only last week that she and her dad were going over wedding ideas and talking about how he wanted to take Claire to Cubs spring training camp when she was older. Shawn arrived and hugged Belle.

Lucas approached EJ and accused him of doing this to John to scare Sami into marrying him. EJ denied it. Lucas ordered EJ to stay away from Sami. She needed time to mourn with her family. EJ agreed to give Sami some space, but reminded Lucas that they were getting married. Lucas pointed out that his signature wasn't on the annulment papers. Sami walked over, and EJ left. Alone with Lucas, Sami sobbed and went on about how she needed him. Yet, she insisted that she had to marry EJ. It was the only way to save her family from any more harm. Lucas feared he was going to lose Sami. She assured him that they were in control of things. Together, they'd never let EJ come between them.

In John's room, Marlena sat next to her husband and professed her love. John awakened and realized his condition was grave. Marlena admitted she didn't know if she could let him go. John assured her she could and asked Marlena to smile, so he could take her beautiful face with him. Then, he asked her to lie next to him. She did and they exchanged "I love you"s. Marlena came out to fetch Belle. Shawn comforted Marlena, then went to call his grandparents to bring Claire to the hospital. After receiving Shawn's call at the pub, Caroline told Max about John's accident and how she and Shawn Sr. had to take Claire to the hospital. Max volunteered to drive them. They left and ran into Chelsea and Steph outside. Max told them about John and asked Steph to drive Morgan home.

Belle went into John's room and hugged him, promising that Claire was on her way. John made Belle promise never to forget him, and she assured him she never would. Caroline and Shawn Sr. arrived with Claire. Belle placed Claire beside John and he smiled, noting that she was the next generation of Blacks. Then, he gave the tyke a kiss and whispered, "Thank you."

Wednesday

Nick returned home to find Artemis, DeMarquette and Jeremy making a racket. Nick urged them to keep quiet. Noise could bring complaints, which could bring cops. There was a knock at the door. Fortunately, it was Maggie. Jeremy told her that he wasn't turning himself in. He didn't want to go to jail. Maggie implored Jeremy to do the right thing and left. Jeremy packed his things and asked Nick if he told anyone else he was there. Nick assured him he hadn't and suggested Jeremy talk to the cops. Jeremy refused and asked Nick for some cash. Jeremy prepared to go. A and D asked where Jeremy was going. Jeremy explained he had to leave and told the little rugrats he'd miss them. Then, he urged Nick not to give up Chelsea and left.

Morgan thanked Stephanie for the ride home, then said she'd seen Steph following her and Max on their date. Morgan noted that an Alpha Chi Theta wouldn't take another girl's guy. Steph should just let her know if she had a thing for Max. Steph insisted she and Max were just friends. Besides, Morgan and Max's auction date was over, anyway. "Only starting if I got a say in it," cooed Morgan. Billie and Jett arrived, and Billie told the girls that a student was nearly raped on campus. Jett instructed the girls to be careful. Alone, Steph told Morgan that whatever she and Max did was their business. Morgan thanked Steph for bringing Max into her life. Steph left, heard something, and asked who was there, but no one answered. Steph walked off as Jeremy emerged, stared at her, and left.

EJ called John's accident a godsend. Sami signed the annulment papers. EJ asked Stefano if he had anything to do with the accident. Stefano simply asked how John was. Then, EJ left to check on John. Bo, Hope, Kayla and Steve gathered at John's bedside as his condition deteriorated. Bo pulled Marlena aside to ask her about the accident, but she couldn't recall many details. Bo sat beside John and told him that he was family. If someone declared war on one of them, it was war on all them. John urged Bo to win this war, but then he lost consciousness. Upset, Bo exited, spotted a nurse's cart, and swiped a vial and a syringe. Steve and Hope talked to John. Then, Kate arrived to say goodbye to her friend. John moaned, and Marlena urged him to rest. Kate left, and Sami stepped out to get some tea. Kate asked if Sami was still marrying EJ. "More like surviving EJ," Sami countered. Kate insisted it was the last thing she wanted. When Lucas interrupted, Kate wished Sami luck and left.

Bo found Stefano and asked him who ran John down. "Get out," ordered Stefano. Bo refused, as he unwrapped one of the syringes. Stefano asked if Bo was going to kill a defenseless old man. "Who did you order to kill John?" demanded Bo. Roman interrupted and urged Bo to put the syringe down. But Bo snapped and jabbed Stefano with it. EJ ran in. Bo noted that it was only saline, as EJ ordered him out. A cop arrived and handed Bo pieces of a headlamp in a plastic bag. Bo thought it could be the break they needed and showed it to Hope. Bo vowed to keep his promise to John. EJ informed Stefano that John didn't have much time left.

Stefano mentioned going to Italy, but EJ wanted him there for his wedding. EJ had an idea: He and Sami could just get married sooner.

Meanwhile, John continued to grow weaker. Hope and Belle talked to him as Steve comforted Marlena, who realized John would keep fighting for his family, no matter how much pain he was in. Marlena noted there was one thing she needed to do for him and asked everyone to stay, so he'd be surrounded by loved ones. Then, she went to John's side and asked him to close his eyes and rest. "I will miss you," whispered John. "You will never leave me, and I will never leave you," responded Marlena. Everyone sobbed as John and Marlena exchanged "I love you"s and he took his final breath. Sami and Lucas walked out. Sami begged Lucas to sign the annulment papers. He did, and they embraced as Sami cried.

Thursday

On the docks, Marlena flashed back to when she returned from the dead and reunited with John. Then she heard a voice, returned to the present, and called out, "John?" Roman emerged, noting that everyone was looking for her. The funeral was about to start. Marlena admitted she didn't think she could say goodbye to John. Roman promised the Bradys would be there to support her.

Tony brought Stefano a bottle of champagne and suggested he use it to celebrate his brother's murder. He told Stefano that he'd "stirred up a hornet's nest" by killing John and warned that the Bradys would come after him. Stefano asked why Tony was calling John his brother. He barely knew the man. "You banished me on an island for the last 20 years. It was rather difficult," countered Tony. Anna came to fetch Tony and told Stefano she was foolish to have pitied him.

At the pub, Julie asked Kayla how her folks were holding up. Steve said he should have killed Stefano when he had the chance. Belle worried about the missing Marlena. Sami worried about Belle. Steve remembered how he'd originally brought John to Salem. Lexie, Abe, Stephanie and Celeste all discussed John. Belle announced that Brady and Chloe wouldn't be making the services because they were snowed in. Sami said Eric couldn't make it, either, but assured she was there for Belle. Outside, Lucas ran into EJ and punched him in the gut. Kate walked up and yelled at Lucas. The commotion brought everyone outside. EJ offered his condolences to Sami. Doug, Steve and Abe chastised EJ for coming there.

After everyone left for John's service, Kate poured EJ a drink. He asked why Kate wasn't going. Kate wondered why EJ wasn't attending to gloat. She knew EJ wanted John dead; that's why he put a bullet in John's chest last year. EJ feigned innocence. Kate noted that EJ had been trained to hate the Bradys before he met them. "I'm sure it's occurred to you by now that they didn't deserve this vendetta, any more than John deserved to die," said Kate, noting that if he hadn't seen the truth yet, EJ was "a complete idiot."

Bo and Hope entered the church, which was all set up for John's funeral. Father Kelly explained that Vivian Alamain arranged everything. Shawn and Belle arrived, and Belle went over to the coffin. Hope embraced her. Lexie and Abe sat down by Jett and Celeste. Chelsea, Billie and Philip came in. Soon, Marlena arrived, walked to the front of the church, and sat with Belle and Sami. Father Kelly began the service. Victor walked in, admitting he wasn't invited, but had things he needed to say. John was his former son-in-law, a man who believed in truth and justice and backed it up with action and courage. Caroline spoke next, noting that John was a son to her and Shawn Sr. Hope went on about John being a hero, before breaking down in tears. Bo consoled her. Anna said she'd spoken to Carrie, who was heartbroken she couldn't attend the services. Anna thanked John for raising her daughter better than she could have. Abe spoke about John's courage and love for his family. Belle placed a drawing Claire made by John's picture and promised to tell her daughter about her grandfather. Sami admitted that she and John had a troubled relationship for years, but he forgave her and she was lucky to have had two wonderful fathers. Roman noted that these eulogies proved what a special man John was. Finally, Marlena thanked everyone for coming and for their kind words about John. Then, she walked to his coffin and tried to find the words to express what John meant to her. She called John her life, friend, lover and champion. Suddenly, a hush came over the crowd as Stefano walked in.

Friday

"Get out!" ordered Marlena, as Stefano walked in to pay his respects to John. Marlena knew Stefano was responsible for John's death. "You've been after John ever since he turned on you," she announced. Stefano claimed the only thing that ever bothered him was John being with the woman he loved. Marlena snapped that it wasn't love, just a sick obsession that made Stefano want to hurt John even more. "You may have destroyed his body, but you can't touch his spirit," noted Marlena, ordering Stefano out. Roman and Bo intervened, and Stefano left. John's coffin was carried out, as everyone followed.

Marlena returned home, entered her bedroom, and glanced at memories of John around the room. She picked up his jacket and sobbed. Later, she sat and remembered days gone by with her late husband, courtesy of a flashback montage. Afterwards, she clutched the flag from John's coffin, sat on the bed, and cried.

At the pub, Kate told EJ that Sami was so terrified of another hit on her family that she'd agreed to the annulment. EJ noted that the vendetta didn't end until he and Sami married, which was what he and Kate both wanted. Kate corrected him. She just wanted the vendetta over for Lucas and her grandchildren's sakes. EJ extended his sympathies over John. Kate admitted John was a hero and Sami would be, too, if she married EJ to end the vendetta. EJ left, and Kate recalled a past moment with John. Then, she said goodbye to him.

Bo inspected the headlight pieces. Hope suggested he take a break, but Bo said there was no time to waste. Max and Stephanie commiserated over Marlena's loss, while Billie made Chelsea promise to be careful. Chelsea doubted the DiMeras would come after her. Billie said she was more worried about the rapist on campus. Lucas told Sami that John's death made him realize she had to marry EJ. Tony pondered Stefano's words about John being his brother, but not knowing him. He went over to Lexie and re-introduced Anna. Then, he invited Lexie and Abe to dinner. Sami assured Lucas marrying EJ wasn't what she wanted. Lucas assured Sami he'd never stop loving her. Shawn Sr. proposed a toast to John. Meanwhile, Stefano remembered branding John with the phoenix.

The next morning, Steve and Kayla watched over Pocket, who was back in the hospital. Kayla said his foster parents brought him into emergency with the same symptoms he'd had before. Philip raced in, and Kayla filled him in on the tyke's condition. Philip went ballistic about his son being poisoned again, and told Steve to get out of his face. Steve decked him.

Bo and Shawn ran to the docks. Shawn asked if his dad had any leads on who hit John. Bo confided that he was working on something that might pan out. Shawn noted that Belle was on edge since John's death and said she wished he'd never joined the police academy. Bo admitted Hope felt the same way. Shawn pointed out that being a cop was a risk, not a death sentence. Bo explained that John died like Zack, via a hit and run accident. Hope was tough as steel, but couldn't handle losing another son.

Belle brought Marlena breakfast and asked if she'd slept. Marlena said she hadn't. Belle promised things would get better. Marlena knew they had to go through anger, loss, grief and acceptance, first. She'd counseled hundreds of patients who had lost love ones. She now realized a psychiatrist couldn't mend a shattered heart. Belle tried to comfort her mother, insisting life wasn't over for her. Marlena said she wasn't sure she could go on without John. Soon, Sami arrived with pastries and coffee. Sami and Belle vowed to take care of Marlena and offered to move in with her. Although touched, Marlena said it was out of the question.
