Monday
At the DiMera mansion, Sami spied the shooter standing over the dead mayor's body. She screamed. Inside, EJ and Nicole — who were about to have sex — heard the scream. The shooter approached her. She punched him and ran inside and begged EJ for help. Nicole was annoyed with Sami for interrupting and a yelling match ensued. She accused Sami of lying and stormed out, then fell over the mayor's dead body and hit the pavement. EJ rushed out to help Nicole up. Roman arrived; Sami collapsed into his arms. He was shocked that the victim was Marino. Roman got the facts from a sobbing Sami. Nicole interrupted to ask what Sami had planned to tell EJ. Sami lied that she wanted to discuss Johnny's schedule. Everyone headed to the station. Roman first questioned EJ. Sami went into Roman's office and called Caroline, asking her to watch the twins for a little while longer. Sami then got a call from the Brookville clinic, asking when she planned to see the doctor again. Nicole eavesdropped on Sami's conversation, then asked why she was seeing a doctor. Sami claimed it was the tots' pediatrician. Nicole then talked about how their children would interact once her baby was born. Sami didn't want to discuss it and noted that Nicole never cared about anything other than money. "That baby is a dollar sign to you," Sami spat, then wondered aloud if the baby could be Trent's. Nicole revealed that a paternity test has already confirmed that the baby is EJ's. More arguing ensued. Roman returned with EJ and asked EJ and Nicole to leave so he could speak to Sami privately. Roman questioned her about what happened, then asked if she could ID the shooter. She said yes. Roman brought in a sketch artist. Outside, Nicole suggested that EJ take her to the hospital to make sure she and the baby were okay. He took a glance at Sami, which infuriated Nic. He wanted to say good-bye to Sami first, which again, made Nicole feel badly.
The shooter made a call, saying he had to take care of Sami that night.
Bo and Hope came to the Pub and found Max and Melanie in a heated argument, where she had just revealed that she may have killed their father. The Bradys said they were there to see Caroline, but were suspicious of the sibs. Max pulled Mel outside and demanded answers, then took her up the back way to his room. There, he asked her to open up about the night of Trent's murder. She made him promise not to hold it against her. He refused to make a deal, then threatened to tell Bo and Hope what was going on. Melanie stopped him, then confessed that she saw Trent in the cemetery, before and after he died, but that her memory was hazy and she must have blacked out. She said when she came to, her head hurt and Trent had a knife in his back. "Maybe I didn't do it!" she cried. An angry Max wanted to tell the truth. Melanie lashed out at him, blaming him for everything that went on.
Stephanie came into the Pub, looking for Max. Bo and Hope noted that she was acting squirrely, so they asked if she had anything to tell them. She said no and hurried off, claiming to have homework. Steph went upstairs and found Max and Mel talking. Melanie was bitchy to Steph, then left.
Melanie went downstairs, where Bo and Hope were having coffee. Melanie approached their table and tried to explain away her "scene" with Max earlier. She sat down and sneakily tried to shift the blame off of herself — and onto Steph. The Bradys weren't fooled by Melanie's game. After, Melanie went upstairs and posted her last webcast on her premier party girl site. "This is going to work out perfectly," she smirked to herself after.
Steph asked what Mel told Max, but Max said he didn't want to talk about it. Steph urged him to open up, but Max didn't want to break Melanie's confidence. Steph plead with him, so he told her what Melanie told him. Steph said he had to go to the cops. He refused to let Melanie go down for a crime she may not have committed and ordered Steph to do the same. She reluctantly agreed, though was not happy at all. They professed their love for each other. After, Stephanie went back into the Pub and told the Bradys that she had something to tell them about Melanie and Max.
Tuesday
At the hospital, Nicole and EJ waited for a doctor to check out Nicole. Lexie came in; Nicole revealed that Mayor Marino was killed at the DiMera mansion and that she fell over his body. Lexie flashed back to a conversation she had with Stefano about Marino and rushed out.
Chelsea ran into Daniel at Java Café, which was good considering she forgot her wallet at home. He paid for her drink, explaining that he was buying for the hospital staffers. He asked if she wanted to sit and chat. She spied Nick coming in and said no because she was meeting someone. Daniel took off. Chelsea approached Nick and asked him to have dinner with her, explaining that she needed a friend. He said okay; she said she wanted to try a new sushi restaurant.
Max and Melanie also met up at Java. She apologized for putting him in a bad position with Stephanie by telling Max what happened the night Trent was murdered. He admitted that he told Steph. Melanie completely panicked and noted that Steph was probably blabbing to Bo and Hope at that moment. Max was sure Steph wouldn't betray his trust. Melanie left in a huff. Chelsea sat down with Max and asked if he was okay. Max told her he was stressed about his mother and Trent. He asked if she knew where Stephanie was; she said no.
At the Brady Pub, Stephanie dropped the bomb on Bo and Hope that she thinks Melanie killed Trent. She then repeated the story Max told her earlier and told the Bradys that they had to question and arrest Mel before she hurts someone else. After, Steph went to Java to see Max. She admitted she had been at the Pub talking to Bo and Hope. Chelsea left. Max asked what she told the Bradys. "I told them everything," she replied. "They know Melanie murdered your father." Max was angry with her for betraying him. "I can't trust you, all right. And without that, we don't have anything," he told her, adding he could never forgive her. A distraught Steph broke down in tears.
Melanie returned to the Pub, where the Bradys were waiting. They asked her to sit and tell them everything that happened the night Trent was killed, including her encounter with him at the cemetery. She remarked that she had nothing more to say. Bo suggested they go to the station, but Melanie said no and accused them of harassing her. Melanie pouted that Stephanie was lying because she hates Melanie and insisted she never saw her father the night he was killed. "If you don't believe me, go ask Max. He'll back up my story," she sniffed.
Lexie stormed into the mansion and asked Stefano if he killed the mayor. He claimed to have nothing to do with Marino's death and angrily explained that all he did was tell the mayor that he was withdrawing his financial backing for Marino's re-election. "I did it for you, Alexandra." he bellowed, then pointed out that there was a chance he was being set up for the murder. "Why the hell would I do it right here? You think I'm that stupid?" he yelled. He then calmly noted that the mayor had many enemies — including Abe — and that motive alone did not guarantee guilt. She realized her father had a point. He forgave her for her emotional outburst. He asked her to have dinner with him, but she said she had to pick up Theo. After, Stefano made a mysterious call.
Daniel came into Nicole's hospital cubicle to see what was going on. She explained about her fall. He asked EJ to step out so he could examine Nicole. Once alone with Daniel, Nic admitted to having "twinges" every now and then. He thought they could be baby flutters. She worried something was wrong. Daniel said she and the baby were in excellent health. After, Daniel reported the news to EJ, who was relieved. Daniel cautioned EJ not to stress out Nicole. EJ took Nicole back to the manse and pampered her. He then pointed out that she played up her spill to keep him from checking on Sami. She said that if she did, it was only because she wanted his focus on her, not Sami. He insisted she had his attention and that she meant the world to him, as did the fact that she was carrying his baby. "I want the same things you want. I want a house, I want a white picket fence, a yard. I want some kids. I want to have a real family. I want to have that with you," EJ told her. She was thrilled and asked him to get her some ice cream. He hurried out; she felt an abdominal pain.
Melanie called Nick for moral support. He met her outside the Pub. She asked him if they could have dinner. He said yes. Melanie went to change. Chelsea walked by and told Nick she was looking forward to their evening. He apologized that he had to cancel. She was dismayed that it was because of Melanie. After, Nick called Maggie to make a reservation at Chez Rouge. Melanie remembered waking up in the cemetery, seeing her father with a knife in her back and hurrying off with his wallet. She approached Nick, all ready for their dinner.
Wednesday
Fresh from another dip in the Kiriakis pool, Daniel was startled to see Philip, who tersely pointed out that he lives there. Dr. Jonas explained that Victor gave him an open invitation to swim there. Daniel asked if there was something that Philip wanted to get off his chest; Philip responded with his fists. Daniel praised his right hook. "Did you expect me to be cordial to you? You mess around with my mother, then come around this house, knowing you might run into me. I knew you were a callous son of a bitch, but, man, you have outdone yourself," charged Kiriakis, who kept trying to goad the doc into a fight. Daniel called Philip, "a vindictive little bastard," but refused to put up his dukes. Philip ordered the doc to steer clear of his mother.
At the Horton cabin, Lucas gave Chloe a sexy massage in front of the fire. All that rubbing and kneading didn't stop the diva from griping about Sami being pregnant yet again. Lucas firmly ordered her to zip it. Then the smooching began.
Sami worked with a sketch artist at the police station to draw a profile of Mayor Marino's killer. Marlena rushed in to comfort her teary daughter, who recounted the traumatic event.... Elsewhere the shooter was on a phone call assuring someone that Sami would be dead by the end of the night. Back at the station, Marlena asked Sami to grab the twins and spend time with her for a while. Sami explained that she's staying with Lucas at the cabin. Doc Evans didn't think this was such a good idea, especially with Chloe around. Sami vowed not to turn the cabin into a war zone.
John spotted Nicole doubled over and grunting and feared she was having the baby. A panicky John wanted to take her to the hospital, but Nic insisted that she had just been there and is fine. When he kept at it, Nicole snapped at him. After more prodding, Nic admitted that if she complains, EJ will think she's just making a ploy for attention. She then asked John to keep their conversation private. In another part of the mansion, Stefano was shouting in the phone at a "stammering twit," when EJ strolled in, saying they needed to talk. Stefano asked why his son was so hostile; Elvis retorted that there was a dead body on his doorstep. Stefano noticed EJ carrying a carton of ice cream. He explained that it's for Nic who wanted a snack — and that she doesn't need any more stress in her life. After EJ left, John walked in and accused Stefano of ordering the hit on Marino. He warned that if anything happens to Samantha, Stefano will pay. The Phoenix scoffed.
Marlena and Sami's awkward conversation at the Salem PD was interrupted by John, who came to check on Sami. John asked what they were arguing about. Marlena explained that she had offered Sami a place to stay, but her daughter declined. John said that he rented a suite at the Salem Inn and invited Samantha to stay there. Sami turned him down, too. Sami left to call Lucas for a lift. Marlena told John that she thinks her daughter is in trouble. John suggested she stop worrying so much and think positively, which irked Marlena. She admitted that she's just frustrated because of Sami's secretiveness. He then asked why she hasn't filed divorce papers. She confessed that she didn't know why.
Outside the Brady Pub, Lexie confided in Tony that she may be responsible for the mayor's murder, explaining that she'd ordered Stefano to cut off support for Marino. "My ultimatum resulted in murder," she cried. Tony raised doubts that Stefano is behind the shooting since it was done in such a public place and not The Phoenix's MO. Still, Lexie couldn't shake the feeling that her father killed for her. Tony and Lexie saw that Abe's luncheon at the Pub was teeming with media. Abe stepped out and asked his wife why she didn't come in. Lexie was reluctant, fearing the press would ask about Marino's murder. Abe encouraged her to go inside and invited Tony, too. A lurking Stefano watched them. The reporters soon started interrogating Lexie about her father's relationship with the murdered mayor, then asked if it was true that he'd funded Abe's campaign. Abe protested that he never took a dime from his shady father-in-law — and never will. Lexie fretted to Tony that the shooter might have another victim in mind.
Back at the DiMera mansion, EJ fed Nic ice cream. She cooed about how happy he made her when he said that he'd like the white picket fence. After some tender smooching, they discussed baby names. Nic was gripped by pain again, but hastily assured EJ that she's okay. He was concerned, so she claimed it was just a leg cramp. EJ bought her story and said he was going to the office, but insisted that she call him if anything is wrong. She calmed him with a kiss.
Sami called Lucas, but he was getting hot and heavy with Chloe and didn't hear the phone, which was on vibrate. After some more sexy time, Lucas heard the phone buzzing. Sami harangued him for not picking up sooner, then asked him to come get her from the police station. This led to some major sulking from Chloe. When Sami and Lucas returned to the cabin, Chloe made a comment that Sami is "showing," which infuriated Samantha who thought Lucas kept her pregnancy news secret. Lucas surmised that Sami still hadn't told EJ. Chloe slinked out, leaving the exes to argue. Outside the cabin, the shooter cocked is rifle. A short time later, EJ arrived for a visit. Sami tried to get rid of him, but the Brit said he thought she might want to talk about what happened with the shooting.
Chloe went to see Nicole, who noted that she only has a tenuous grip on EJ. Chloe told her to just enjoy the ride, but Nicole complained that Sami is the thorn in her side. Chloe seconded that emotion and shared that she has some news about their foe.
Outside the cabin, the shooter trained his gun on Sami.
Thursday
At the Horton cabin, Sami insisted to EJ that she was fine and tried to get rid of him. Lucas left. Marino's killer lurked outside with his gun trained on Sami. EJ spied a red dot from the assassin's gun on Sami's head and yelled for her to duck as gunshots rang out.
At the DiMera mansion, Nicole told Chloe that she wasn't interested in whatever she had to say about Sami. Chloe realized it was stressing Nicole out and agreed to drop it. Nicole talked to Chloe about baby names, but noted that Chloe seemed bored talking about the baby. Chloe played it off. Nicole told Chloe how EJ told her he wanted a house, picket fence and kids with her, but that she felt he was still on the fence. They had some girl talk, where Nicole thanked Chloe for her loyalty and friendship. When Nic commented that she knew Chloe would never keep anything from her, an uncomfortable Chloe excused herself to call Lucas. After, she returned to the room and she and Nicole toasted with apple cider to their "BFF status." Nicole asked who Chloe called. Chloe told her it was Lucas. Nicole then admitted that the specter of Sami hung over everything and it rattled her. Nicole noted that Chloe seemed unresponsive. Chloe said it was because she had something to tell her, just as Lucas burst in and prevented her from saying anything else. Nicole demanded to know what as going on.
Philip ran into a weepy Stephanie at the Java Caf. He asked if she was okay; she revealed she and Max had split. Stephanie told him about what happened with Melanie and Trent on the night of Trent's murder and how Melanie tried to set her up by planting Trent's wallet in her purse. Philip realized he had to talk to Melanie.
Max went to the station after being summoned by Bo and Hope. Max spied Melanie's name on their suspect board and questioned them. Hope remarked that he was being defensive about Melanie's connection to the murder. Max told them he broke up with Steph. Bo was apologetic, but said they still had a job to do. Hope asked Max to back up Stephanie's claim that Melanie confessed, but Max said Mel never confessed to him. Steph walked in at that moment and was stunned to hear that Max was implying she had lied. Bo asked Steph to wait outside; Hope went with her and comforted her. Back inside, Max told Bo that he was sure Melanie didn't kill Trent. Bo pointed out that Max was hardly unbiased. Max explained that Melanie loved Trent and wouldn't have done it. Bo let him go. Max went into the outer office and realized Stephanie had gone. Hope urged him to go after her.
Nick and Melanie returned to the Pub. He asked if she wanted dessert, but she said she was full. She hallucinated that Trent was at the bar and freaked out. She hurried upstairs, leaving a confused Nick behind. When Melanie got to her room, she "saw" Trent on her bed and had a "conversation" with him. Ghost Trent commented that it was her guilt talking. "You screwed up my life; I'm not going to let you haunt me in death," she shrieked. He talked about her killing him. She yelled that she didn't kill him and ran out the door — and into Philip. They argued about the murder. Melanie insisted she didn't do it. More bickering ensued. Melanie then claimed that she did kill Trent and sarcastically congratulated Dr. Phil for cracking the case. He apologized for unfairly accusing her, but said he still had to tell the cops that he knew Melanie had Trent's wallet. She tried to "buy his silence" and began to undress him.
Roman came to Horton Island with cops to investigate Sami's shooting. Marlena arrived after and Sami fell into her arms. John came, too. Doc Evans told him he wasn't needed and could go. John said he was glad Sami wasn't "damaged" and left. Sami cried that the shooter was after her and wouldn't stop until her got her. Back at the mansion, Lucas was about to tell Nicole the truth about Sami's baby when Sami called to tell him about the shooting. Lucas hung up, told Chloe and Nicole that someone tried to kill Sami and rushed out. Chloe and Nicole groused that it all came back to Sami. Nicole wondered where EJ was; John reported that he was at the cabin — and has just saved Sami's life. At the cabin, Roman suggested putting Sami into a temporary witness protection program.
Steph headed to the Brady Pub, where she ran into Nick. Max came in and asked to talk to Steph alone. He apologized to her for what happened at the station, but she wasn't too interested in talking to him. "It's over Max. We're done," she told him and left.
Friday
Bo came to the Pub to talk to Max and try and smooth things over. Steph came in during their chat. She and Max started arguing over Melanie. Again. Bo was surprised to hear that they had split and tried to interrupt, to no avail. Steph stormed off. Bo encouraged Max to try and work things out with Steph. "You screw things up with Stephanie, you really are an idiot," he noted. Bo got a call and walked off to take it. Steph came back to the bar. Max apologized to her; she apologized, too. Bo, Max and Steph sat down to coffee. Bo suggested they try and move forward.
In her room, Melanie tried to seduce Philip into keeping quiet about Trent's wallet. She kissed him. Things got hotter and heavier and they fell on the bed, where Philip pushed her off and said he didn't want to sleep with a killer. She called him a jerk and accused him of leading her on. "You could give Paris Hilton a few tips," he remarked. Philip added that her trying to "buy" his silence just made her look more guilty. He told her to fix her hair because they were going out to face the music. They went downstairs and approached Bo, Max and Steph. Phil asked Bo if he had his handcuffs handy, then revealed he saw Melanie with the wallet after Trent's murder. Bo asked why he didn't come forward sooner. Philip explained that he didn't realize the significance. Max advised Melanie to get a lawyer. She spat that she didn't need one, insisting it was Phil and Steph's word against hers. She told them she was leaving town and went upstairs to pack. While on the phone trying to get the bus schedule, Melanie spied a note being slipped under her door.
Kate found Daniel at the hospital to return his swim trunks and was being flirtatious. She felt frisky, but he tried to keep things professional. He noted that she was anxious waiting for her test results, but she insisted she was okay. They kissed. Chelsea came looking for Daniel. A nurse pointed behind a curtain. Daniel got paged, so he and Kate stopped kissing — right when Chelsea came in. She asked her grandmother if she was okay; Kate said she was. Chelsea wanted to go over some files with Daniel. He went to check on a patient first and asked her to wait with Kate. Chelsea told Kate she was planning to call her to say she was ready to forgive and forget since things were over with Kate and Daniel anyway. Chelsea then spied the swim trunks and realized that Kate and Daniel weren't so done, after all. She chided herself for believing Kate and lashed out. Kate said that Chelsea should be beyond temper tantrums. "I want you out of my life forever!" Chelsea cried. Kate told her to be careful what she wished for when she saw Daniel with her results. He revealed that Kate had cancer.
At the cabin, Sami balked about being put into a witness protection program and being away from her children. Lucas pointed out that the kids would be at risk by being near Sami. Marlena assured her that Roman wouldn't rest until he found the killer. Sami got annoyed to see Chloe in the room. Roman agreed that Sami didn't need an audience to make the decision. EJ sugested that Sami seek refuge at the DiMera mansion. "Where? In the lair? In the dungeon?" Marlena asked. Chloe chimed in; Roman told her to shut up. Sami touched her belly and eventually agreed to go into the program. EJ was curious about the 180. Sami played it off, then wondered how she would say good-bye to her babies. Lucas talked to her privately and asked if her decision to enter the program was really based on her desire to hide her pregnancy. She admitted that it would buy her time. He reluctantly agreed to keep her secret. After, Sami cried to Marlena about having to leave. Marlena asked Sami if she had anything to tell her before she left. Sami asked what she meant. Doc Evans explained that she instinctively felt Sami was hiding something. Roman, EJ and Lucas came in with the twins so Sami could hold them and say good-bye. Roman told Sami she couldn't bring anything with her that would tie her to her life. Sami continued to cry. Johnny touched her stomach and said," baby." "Baby?" EJ asked quizzically.
