Monday

Lexie confronted Stefano at the mansion for his instrumental role in the hospital lockdown and how it caused problems for her in her job. She told her father that she resigned, and that Abe quit his job, too, because people like Stefano are never prosecuted for their crimes. The Phoenix insisted he was innocent. Lexie warned Stefano that Abe still planned to come after him. He pointed out that Abe had come after him many times before and failed.
Lexie insisted her husband wouldn't fail this time. She also suggested that her father leave town. He yelled that his children all turned on him. She pointed out that he had done it to them first. She told him she never wanted to see him again and warned him to stay away from Theo. He asked how Theo was doing and offered to get the best treatment money could buy for his grandson. "You disgust me," Lexie said, then left.

At the Brady Pub, Bo asked Max what he was thinking threatening to kill Trent in front of a restaurant full of people. Bo advised him to cool down and apologize to Trent. Max refused, though Kayla agreed with Bo. Melanie stormed over to her father and told him that she hated him and would kill him with her bare hands if she could. She told him that Max saved her from being raped by Claude. Max joined the family discussion, where Trent accused his son of turning Melanie against him. Steve and Bo intervened. Caroline angrily ordered Trent to leave, calling him a disgrace. Melanie ran out. Max wanted to follow her, but Steve held him back. Trent told the group that Melanie was a pathological liar and always had been, which got Max all worked up again. Trent left. Nicole and Victor walked in to catch the tail end of the drama. Nick went outside to comfort Melanie. Chelsea came upon them in an embrace and went inside. Trent strolled over next and asked to talk to Melanie. She said okay. Nick went back into the Pub. Trent
apologized for what happened in France, then asked Melanie where he stood with Claude and did she know whether or not Trent still owed him money. An incredulous Melanie told her father that Claude was in jail and probably blamed him for everything. They exchanged more angry words. Max broke up their conversation.

Bo and Hope calmed down Caroline and asked her to stay away from Trent. They spied Victor and pushed Nicole to tell Victor the truth. She agreed to, but asked for privacy. Bo excused himself and returned to the table to tell Hope. Nicole took Victor outside and told him the whole truth, that she was once and still married to Trent. She insisted she didn't know their divorce hadn't gone through, but Vic doubted her. Nicole told the story of how she came to be with Trent, which included his abuse. Vic laughed, then explained that her sob story wasn't going to move him to the point where he would let her keep his money. "Prepare yourself, my dear. You are about to become dirt poor again," he smiled. Nicole hurried off, explaining she was going to be sick. Vic went back inside. When Nicole returned, Victor told her he planned to get every penny back from her. "Trent, you are so going to pay for this," she said to herself after.

Stephanie sat down with her parents and discussed Trent and Max and what happened in France. Steve worried that he wasn't there to protect Steph and said he would be next time. She assured him that there wouldn't be a next time. She also told her parents that Mel was trouble. Chelsea caught up with Steph after. Steph told her about the Trent/Max standoff she missed. Chelsea made a crack about Melanie. Steph told her it was okay to admit she was jealous. Chelsea said she wasn't, she just didn't think Melanie was good for Nick. After, Chelsea walked over to Nick, who told her he was determined to get Trent away from Melanie.

Caroline sat with Bo and Max, still reeling from how despicable Trent is. She told her sons that she would do anything to protect them. After, Max made formal introductions between Caroline and Melanie and they discussed living arrangements.

Victor informed Bo and Hope that Nicole told him the truth, but he was still worried about Kate. An alarmed Chelsea overheard and asked what was going on with her grandmother. Vic explained that Kate was getting tests for her cough. Chelsea decided she would call Kate in the morning. Chelsea then went to chat with Nick and asked if he wanted some company, but he said no. He walked out of the Pub and spied Trent on the phone. Back inside, Bo asked if Victor would file fraud charges against Nicole, but he said no, because he did believe that Nicole was Trent's unwitting victim. Victor left. Bo asked Chelsea to tell him and Hope what exactly went down in France. When Chelsea got to the part about Nick getting shot, Hope asked Chelsea if she still loved her ex.

Tuesday

Trent came to Brady Pub to see Melanie; they chatted outside. He claimed he wanted to clear the air, but it quickly turned into an argument over Claude. Trent pointed out that since Melanie acted like a whore, he decided to treat her like one. She tried to slap him, but he caught her arm. She took off. Nick confronted Trent after, threatening to go to the board of regions at Salem U and tell them everything about their sleazy dean of physics. Trent countered by reminding Nick that Max did most of the work on his research
project and he would tell the board that, too. They had a stand off; Nick warned Trent to stay away from Melanie. "You mess with her again, you're a dead man," Nick warned. Melanie overheard and noted to herself that things might be better if Trent was dead.

Hope met with Lexie for coffee at the Pub and they talked about her resigning as chief of staff and talked about Theo. The conversation turned to Abe's resignation. Hope noted that Abe quitting the force was noble. Lexie said she supported him, but worried about what he would do next. Hope said he'd be perfect at a private security firm and in the meantime, he could enjoy some time off.

Roman and Bo went to the Carver house and gave Abe a rundown of the robberies that had taking place around Salem. They were trying to get him to come back, implying that crime was already going up as a result of him quitting. Abe thought Roman should take the commish job, but Ro pointed out that he was part of the "problem" during the hospital lockdown, so he wasn't a candidate. Abe said he had friends on the city council and could call in a few favors to get Roman an endorsement. Roman still said no. Abe suggested Bo take the position. Bo said he was more of a detective and less suit and tie guy. Roman was called to the station and left. Abe "ordered" Bo to take the job, but Bo smiled that Abe wasn't his boss anymore and couldn't order him around. He suggested Abe come up with a new candidate. Bo then got a call from Roman, summoning him to the station because the Mayor had chosen Abe's successor and was about to announce it. Bo took off, just as Lexie came home. She told Bo that Hope was headed to the station, too.

At the station, the Mayor held a press conference and announced that he had chosen Hope as Abe's successor. Hope was stunned, as was Bo. Back at the Carver house, Lexie noted to Abe that Hope didn't mention anything when she saw her earlier at the Brady Pub. Abe admitted he called in favors to get Hope the gig.

Anna and Marlena chatted about John at the Pub. Marlena admitted that John's erratic behavior and headaches worried her. Anna cautioned Marlena against breaking things off with John. She admitted that it may be an old-fashioned notion, but that Marlena should "stand by her man." Marlena confessed that she was lonely for John and for the life they shared, but that she couldn't risk investing in a man who was so emotionally unavailable. "You were the perfect couple once," Anna said wistfully, hoping there was still a chance. Doc Evans said he was too back and forth for her.

John walked into the living room at the manse to find his brother reading to Sami and EJ's children. John had the tots taken to a "less-threatening environment." John had a headache; Stefano offered to get him some ibuprofen, but John wouldn't take pills from him. The brothers faced off over who is rightfully entitled to the DiMera empire. Stefano said it should be him, since he turned the shipping business into a money-maker and made the company thrive. "The empire is mine; no point in fighting it," John declared. Stefano vowed to protect his empire, so he could protect his
family. Stefano then asked why John needed his money when he had the Alamain fortune. John said he liked fighting for what is rightfully his. He asked Stefano to sign over the house to him, but the Phoenix just laughed. "I'll do no such thing," Stefano announced, explaining he was leaving the house to his grandchildren. He suggested John get his own house, but John said he wasn't going anywhere. John walked out of the room. Dr. Rolf came in and reported to Stefano that John's headaches were a sign that the end was near for John and that his infrastructure would overload irrevocably.... Anna called John and asked her to meet him to chat.

Wednesday

At the station, Hope was still reeling from Mayor Marino's announcement that she would be named Salem's new police commissioner and told him she needed to think about it. He replied that he would need an answer by the end of the day. Bo and Roman congratulated Hope and Bo said she was exactly what Salem needed. Hope looked unsure. Roman cautioned that if Hope turned down the job, Marino would appoint one of his lackeys, which would make it harder to nail the DiMeras. Alone with Bo, Hope said that she agreed she would be a great commish, but simply didn't want to do it. "Even if it means stopping DiMera?" Bo asked. Hope chided him for trying to guilt her into taking the position. She explained that she would miss being away from Ciara and it would be awkward to be Bo's boss. "The thought actually kind of turns me on," he smirked. After, Hope called the Mayor and turned down the job offer. Bo told her he loves her and respects her decision.

Stefano noted to Dr. Rolf that John was drunk with power. Rolf said not for long, as John's brain was like a time bomb. Stefano noted that John was merely a pawn in his plan; his main target was Marlena, whom he planned to destroy once and for all.

John met Anna at the Pub, where she tried to shake some sense into him
regarding Marlena. "Marlena is going to divorce you," she exclaimed. During their chat, John had an episode and Anna's face became blurry. He appeared to pass out standing up, then came to. An alarmed Anna asked if he was okay. He insisted he was, then told her he would urge Marlena to reconsider the divorce. After, his condition deteriorated and he fell to the ground. Anna called for someone to call 911 while John convulsed on the floor.

Nicole ran into Trent outside of the Brady Pub. He was looking for Melanie. She told him that the truth about their marriage came out and that he owes her the money she lost from Victor. Trent laughed at her, noting she had had plenty of time to divorce him. Nicole hurried off and got sick. When she returned, she heard sirens and Trent explained that John had been taken to the hospital. They began to bicker and Nicole called him a pig. "I may be a pig, but I bet I could still make you squeal," Trent sneered and grabbed her. Max came upon them and ordered Trent to let go of Nicole. Nicole told Max she was okay and hurried inside, where she again got sick to her stomach. Max advised his father to leave Salem — or else he'd kill him. "Ooh, Maxie, I'm shaking in my boots," teased the dean. Max warned Trent not to push him.

At the hospital, Marlena talked to Kayla about John's condition and his
headaches. She also confessed that she thinks about John obsessively "every minute of the day," but she vowed to quit him. After, Kayla came upon Daniel berating a nurse. The nurse apologized and scurried away. Kayla told him not to yell, but Daniel didn't respond well to her advisement. He walked off and ran right into Chelsea, who was there to get some information about Kate. Daniel told her he couldn't say anything about a patient of his. He then apologized for what happened between them, but she didn't want to hear it. Later, Daniel apologized to the nurse he excoriated earlier. She gave him Kate's X-ray. He then called Kate and asked her to come in to the hospital.

Kayla entered John's hospital cubicle to find an irate patient. While she ordered tests, Anna called Marlena and summoned her to the trauma center. Marlena rushed in and Anna reported that John was in radiology getting a brain scan. Doc Evans ran there. Kayla was studying an X-ray of John's brain on a light board. "Oh, my God," she whispered to herself. Marlena checked on John, who pointed out that it showed she didn't despise him. "I could never despise you," Marlena said, then left. Kayla showed her the X-ray, which Marlena was unable to interpret. "I've never seen anything like this," Marlena said. John decided to check himself out of the hospital. Kayla told him she had more tests to run; John asked if he was dying. She admitted she didn't know what was wrong with him. He decided to check out anyway.

Marlena confronted Stefano at the DiMera mansion and demanded the disk containing John's memories. "Memories on a disk. That sounds like science fiction to me," pooh-poohed the Phoenix. Doc Evans implored him to help, even pulling the brother card. "Half-brother," Stefano corrected. He then told Marlena that John's fate was sealed years ago and there was nothing either or them could do about it. Marlena left. Rolf came in and told his boss that John's brain was about to explode and it is at that time that he can be reprogrammed as Stefano's pawn. "I don't think we need him for that anymore," he said, noting that they'd find someone new to play with. Back at the hospital, Marlena vowed to save John.

Thursday

At his hotel, Trent got busy with a hooker. After she left, he got a call from Claude. A surprised Trent apologized for Melanie's behavior in Marseille. Claude told Trent that he owed him money — or another visit from Melanie.

Melanie and Max talked about Trent outside of the Brady Pub. She told him that she wanted to leave Salem, but he said he'd make their father leave. Mel's cell phone rang; it was a text-message from Trent, asking her to come to his hotel because it was urgent. Max said he'd go with her and they'd confront him together. They headed to the Salem Inn, where Trent admitted he was in trouble and needed her help with Claude; otherwise, he'd be killed. "Oh, wow. That just breaks my heart," Max snarked. Trent begged for help and made an impassioned speech about how he was going to change for Melanie. She got teary and asked if it was true. Seeing her soften made Max mad. He ordered Trent to stay away from Mel.

At Chez Rouge, Lucas and Philip toasted to family and Lucas being back at Titan. Chloe joined them, which surprised Lucas because she was supposed to be babysitting. She said she got a sitter, which upset him. "I thought you'd be happy to see me," she explained. Nicole sauntered up next and asked to sit. Lucas got up and gave her his seat, since he had to go check on his daughter. Nicole told Philip she needed his help. She opted not to have
wine, which prompted Philip to note that "temperatures in hell must have hit an all-time low." Lucas returned to the table and reported that Gabrielle the babysitter said that Allie was fine and watching a movie. Chloe bristled at Lucas's implication that she was being reckless with the tot and stormed off. Nicole followed. Philip told Lucas he was being a little hard on Chloe. Alone with Nicole, Chloe confessed that she wasn't sure she was ready for the family situation. "I'm starting to feel trapped," she confided. "I'm beginning to think I want out." Chloe said she wasn't ready to be a mother yet, then realized that she was being insensitive since Nicole couldn't have kids. Nicole said it was okay. They shared a warm moment. Nic urged her to be honest with Lucas. At that moment, Lucas came over and apologized for snapping earlier and being a neurotic dad. He asked Chloe to dance. On the dance floor, Lucas went on about how he loved having Chloe in his and Allie's life so she couldn't tell him that she wasn't ready to really be in it.

Nicole returned to the table to talk to Philip. She asked him to intervene with Victor, but he said he couldn't. He added that she probably shouldn't have married Trent in the first place. Nicole vowed Dean Robbins would pay, but blamed Bo for forcing her hand with Victor. She then wished a horrible death on Trent and said if she had the means, she would do it herself. Lucas left to relieve the babysitter. Nicole exited, too, leaving Chloe and Philip
alone together.
Nick approached Chelsea at the Brady Pub. She opened up to him about Daniel — and Kate. He tried to give her advice on how to handle the situation. "I'm lucky I have you... Although I don't really have you anymore, do I?" she said wistfully. Nick noted that she was being a little possessive and had a tone in her voice where it came to Melanie. She explained that Melanie was trouble. "People who date cheating doctors shouldn't throw stones," Nick noted, then chided her for trying to make him her consolation prize. She said she cared about him and wanted to warn him about Melanie. Nick insisted Melanie was an okay girl.

At the Salem Inn, Max grabbed his father and wouldn't let go. He assured Trent that he was going to die, then began beating him up. A panicked Melanie called Nick and arrived (with Chelsea) and pulled Max off of Trent. Max yelled that Trent was trying to use Melanie to pay off his debts again. Trent denied it, saying he only needed cash. Nick said he had cash, the grant money. Nick figured Trent would take the money and leave them alone. "Leave?" replied Trent. "Oh, no. I'm not going anywhere." A weepy Melanie excoriated her father for being a monster. Trent told both of his children that they were worthless losers and he was better off without them. Max ushered Melanie out and promised her that Trent would leave Salem that night.

At the station, Roman worked on a cold case of an 8-year-old's kidnapping. Bo told his brother that Hope thought Roman was mad at her for not taking the commissioner's job. Bo tried to explain that Ciara was Hope's priority. Roman noted that he turned down the job too, but was concerned about who the mayor was going to put in the job. Roman pointed out that Bo would be an ideal candidate and urged him to put his hat in the ring. He then picked up the phone to call the mayor's office and recommend his brother, which annoyed Bo. Roman assured him that it was the right thing to do and he would know it when and if he got the job. Caroline arrived and told her sons she was worried about Max. Bo and Roman said they would talk to him. She said that they'd have to do more than talk — she wanted them to urge Trent to leave Salem. They said their hands were tied. "Well, mine aren't," she declared.

Friday

Kate went to the hospital to see Daniel and rambled about how well Hearth and Home is doing. He finally interrupted her to point out that he called her down there because she has an illness. Kate was in denial that anything was wrong with her. Daniel said he didn't have a diagnosis yet, but that it was serious. Kate told him that maybe it wasn't and maybe she had allergies. Chelsea arrived in time to hear Kate say she had allergies and accused her grandmother of making herself seem sicker to be close to Daniel. Daniel told her she was out of line. Kate added that she and Daniel had been honest with Chelsea and what happened between them was over. Chelsea asked about the conversation she walked in on, thinking it had to do with their sexual relationship, not Kate's illness. Daniel tried to set her straight, but Kate asked to speak to her granddaughter alone. Kate began coughing and Chelsea softened, admitting she doesn't want her to be sick. Kate cried and asked Chelsea to cut her some slack. Chelsea teared up, too. Kate insisted that she never wanted to hurt Chelsea and that what happened with Daniel was a fluke and a bad decision. She apologized for hurting Chelsea. Chelsea still wasn't ready to forgive her, but when Kate began coughing, Chelsea urged her to see the doctor. Kate told Chelsea to forgive Daniel and said she would stop seeing him altogether if it would help. Chelsea said nothing would help and left, passing Daniel on the way. He tried to stop her to talk, but Kate told him to let her go. Kate told Daniel that all was not forgiven with Chelsea. He had Kate's report and broke the news to her that he conferred with another doctor and they both concluded she has lung cancer.

Nicole rushed into the Brady Pub to see EJ and fill him in on what happened with Victor and the divorce settlement. She blamed Bo for being a blabbermouth. She said she hated him and her "dearly departed husband." EJ asked her what she meant by the latter comment. She played it off, saying that Trent was clearly on the way out now that everyone knew that he tried to pimp out Melanie. They discussed Victor's money; Nicole insisted she earned every penny. He said he knew, but the law wasn't on her side. Nevertheless, he felt they could still pursue a case. Suddenly, she got sick and rushed off.

Bo and Hope dined at Chez Rouge with Steve and Kayla. Maggie congratulated Hope on being named commissioner, but Hope revealed she turned the job down. Steve asked if Bo would throw his hat in the ring. He surprised them by revealing that he already did. Everyone was thrilled and ready to celebrate. Bo explained that everyone browbeat him into taking the position — and the pay hike was a plus. Mayor Marino was there and overheard Bo talking. He reminded Bo that he didn't have the job yet and the celebrating was premature. Bo clarified that he didn't think he had the job, and he was happy to be considered. Marino said that Bo would be considered with the other candidates and walked off. Bo worried that he wasn't going to get the job, especially with his recent investigation by Internal Affairs. The foursome enjoyed their meal. After, Kayla and Steve headed home to Joe while Bo suggested to Hope that they visit Shawn's grave because he wanted his father's blessing about the new position.

Maggie was excited by the "green" changes she had made at the restaurant and how she hoped to be certified officially by the Green Restaurant Association. She showed Mickey the Web site dinegreen.com, the happily gave him a smooch.

Melanie tried to order a drink at Chez Rouge, but the bartender wouldn't serve her. She pulled Trent's wallet out of her bag, but nearly dropped it when Nick rushed in, apologizing for being late. She said she had just arrived, too, because she was taking care of something. He vaguely said that he was, too. Nick asked Mel if she had heard from Trent. She said no. They spied Maggie and Mickey kissing. "Old people sucking face. Gross," she said. He introduced his aunt and uncle to Mel and asked what they were celebrating. Maggie told them about the green certification. They noticed Nick's hand was bruised. He claimed he hurt it in France, but Melanie said she didn't remember that happening. Mickey pointed out that the injury looked fresh.

Max returned to his room, sporting a bloody shirt that he quickly took off. Stephanie came by so he hid the shirt and put a new one on to answer the door. She told him she was worried with him after what happened with Trent. They made love. After, he went to take a shower and she noticed scratches and bruises on his back. She gasped aloud, asking if she did that to him. "You're a real tiger," he joked and went to the bathroom. She went to grab her cell phone and spied his bloody shirt.

Caroline visited Shawn's grave and talked to him about how much she missed him, especially now with everything that was happening with Max. "He needs his real father. That's you, Shawn," she cried. Caroline revealed to Shawn that she "took care" of Trent and that he wouldn't be bothering Max anymore. After she confessed what she did to Trent, she got up to leave, but heard a noise and called out to ask who was there. Bo and Hope arrived at the cemetery and ran into two cops on duty. They asked if Bo was going after the commish job. Hope joked that cops were the biggest gossips. Inside the cemetery, Trent walked toward Caroline, then fell on top of her with a knife sticking out of her back. She screamed and pulled the knife out, just as Bo and Hope and the cops approached her.
