Double Fun for Martsolf

PASSIONS’ Eric Martsolf (Ethan) and his wife, Lisa, had no idea that their efforts to start a family would bring them double the blessing: The couple is expecting fraternal twins.

“That’s just the way it had to happen for us,” beams Martsolf. “She’s about 12 weeks along; we’ve known for about six weeks.”

Martsolf reveals this is actually a case of getting what you asked for. “It was just pillow talk, but one night Lisa gave me a funny little look and said, ‘You know what would be the optimal situation? If we have twins. I would love to have two kids in nine months.’ We knew we wanted two, so why not? We didn’t talk about it after that, because it’s not something you consider. Twins is something that happens to other people. The doctors tell you that even with fertility medicine, there’s only an 8 percent chance that you’ll have multiples. I don’t know that I believe that, because everyone I’ve talked to who has been on fertility drugs ends up with twins. They also run in my family. I have second cousins who are twins, and my cousin just gave birth to two little boys.”

Wasting no time, Martsolf and his wife are busy feathering their nest. “It’s nuts. It’s all about border paper and nursery colors right now. That’s got us in Home Depot seven hours a day, just freaking out. We’ve taken over the Ralph Lauren paint section, trying to figure out, ‘If it’s two boys, we should do this, and if it’s girls, we should to that — but what if it’s boy/girl? How do we appease both of them?’ It’s been a source of some wonderful debate!”
