General Hospital Recaps
GH Week of December 8, 2008
Monday
Jason watched in horror as the roadhouse went up in flames. "Jake!" he screamed. Then Sam emerged from the conflagration with Jake safe in her arms. Jason clutched his son close and almost shed a tear. Meanwhile, Elizabeth told Lucky the paintings she destroyed symbolize a dream she can't attain — like a life with Jason. She lamented putting her children in danger for selfish reasons. "Jason is a professional criminal," she howled, throwing a painting. "Jason's your drug of choice," Lucky noted. "You're hitting rock bottom." He assured her she will survive. She said if Jake dies she doesn't want to survive. Then she got a call from Epiphany — Patrick had to bring Cameron to work with him. At GH, Matt was babysitting Cam when Liz arrived. Patrick assured her that Jake would be okay. And he was — thanks to Sam, who revealed she grabbed the tot and jumped out a window. "Thank you," Jason said. Driving back, Sam called Liz with the good news, then fussed over Jake. She noted he has Jason's eyes. Jason didn't want Sam to encourage a love of adventure in Jake. She suggested Jake could grow up to be a teacher or a doctor or an author. Jason seemed lost in thought.
Striding into the Crimson party, Kate kept her head up, even as Carly smirked while wearing the same dress. Gwyneth sniped at Kate's faux pas, noting she'd also been shot — and was not married yet. Jax officially welcomed Kate, who basked in praise for the latest issue of the magazine. Warren complimented Carly for the party, and expressed interest in Carly's ideas for Couture — about how real women like fashion and are not all size 2. Then Kate and Carly bickered over Jax. Jax took Carly aside to quiz her about the dress fiasco. Later, Kate confronted Lulu about the dress sabotage. Olivia defended Lulu, drawing fire from Connie...er, Kate, so she fled. Kate was hurt by Lulu's betrayal, but before she could fire Lulu, Maxie claimed she was to blame, for letting Carly overhear the name of the designer. Kate was disappointed in her, and felt she had to fire them both (as warned). Jax intervened, noting Maxie got the last issue out almost single-handedly. As primary investor, he blocked her from firing the girls. Alone, Lulu asked why Maxie covered for her; Maxie had no idea. Lulu admitted she helped Carly because they're cousins, and Carly deserved a win. Jax went to see Carly and demanded to know how she pulled off the scam. Carly was relieved that Lulu wasn't fired. Meanwhile, Olivia went to the docks, then Sasha showed up, talking about Jake and the bar. Sasha spotted Liv and pulled a knife on her. Olivia insisted she didn't hear anything, but Sasha stabbed her anyway — just as Patrick arrived. Olivia refused to go to GH hospital, because Dante is already so worried that he and the whole Falconeri clan will show up. She asked to be taken elsewhere.
Elsewhere, Sonny told Claudia that while their marriage is a business arrangement, he doesn't want her sleeping with Ric under his roof. Ric insisted Sonny needs him, but Sonny threw his brother out. Spinelli arrived with word that Jake was safe, and hopes the good news would thaw Sonny/Jason relations. Alas, it didn't. Claudia encouraged Sonny to go after the Russians, but Sonny preferred to let Jason and the Russians fight it out. Then Patrick brought in the wounded Olivia. Spinelli went to Crimson to tell Maxie the good news. Mac arrived to blast Spinelli for endangering his daughter with his dangerous mob lifestyle. "You're wasting all your intelligence," Mac scolded, and warned Spinelli to get out of her life. She asked him to stay. Later, when an impassive Jason reunited mother and child, Liz was ecstatic.
Tuesday
Maxie tried to defend Spinelli, but Mac insisted the computer guy brings danger into her life, so he threatened to arrest him. Mac forbid Maxie from seeing Spinelli while she's living under his roof. So Maxie resolved to move out. Later, Mac summoned Robin (complete with baby stroller) to recount the battle. Robin defended Spinelli as a caring friend. At Crimson, Maxie praised Spinelli for standing up to Mac, but Spinelli wondered if her dad is right — his lifestyle endangers her. She resolved to keep him in her life. "You really make me a better person," she said. Later, Maxie went home to tell Mac she's decided to move out. She packed up, hugged him and thanked him for raising her. He encouraged her to go out and claim her own life. Mac joked to Robin that she'll get hers when Emma grows up and hooks up with some junior mobster.
At Metro Court, Carly reveled in the fact that Jax couldn't take his eyes off her at the party. She smooched him, but her resisted her charms. "We're over," he insisted. "Then why are you still wearing your wedding band?" she countered. He claimed he was just being respectful because they are technically still married. Jax said he didn't sleep with Kate to get at Carly, he did it just to have an adult relationship with somebody without risk of emotion. Jax pointed out that he knew she was attached to Sonny when he married her, but had hoped the bond would wither. Now he knows it won't. He removed his ring and gave it to her. At home later, Carly mooned over a picture of Michael. She maintained her heart is 100 percent available — except for the little tiny part that belongs to Sonny, She reflected that Jax wants everything, but the bond to Sonny is permanent. Carly resolved that if it's over with Jax, it's over. "Maybe Mommy is finally growing up," she mused. "Or maybe she's just a complete fool."
At Sonny's place, Patrick set up to treat Olivia, even as Claudia railed. Liv recounted how she got stabbed for overhearing a woman on a phone, and asked to be taken to Sonny's because of her son. Meaning she didn't want Dante to worry, then come to the hospital and hover. Claudia suggested hauling Liv to Kate's, but Sonny insisted she stay put as long as she needs. Later, Patrick told Sonny that Liv will be fine, but he will follow up. He advised Sonny not to call Dante against Olivia's wishes. Later, a furious Claudia suggested Olivia is milking her injury because she still carries a torch for Sonny. Claudia didn't think Sonny was respecting their marriage. Sonny insisted he's only in love with Kate — not Claudia or Olivia. Claudia said she'll try not to speak ill of Kate as long as he doesn't throw Kate in her face. Olivia came downstairs to spend "quality time" with the newlyweds, which incensed Claudia. Sonny promised to get revenge, but Olivia sided with Claudia by wanting no part of vengeance.
At the Spencer home, Elizabeth hugged Jake and thanked Jason for bringing her son home. As Cameron reunited with his brother, Jason looked pained. Jason credited Sam for the rescue, but Sam said Jason risked his life. Liz insisted she's indebted to Sam. Lucky embraced Sam, who defended Jason from Lucky's criticism. Later, in the car, Jason told Sam he doesn't want Jake to be like him; he hopes Jake never even remembers him. Feeling guilty for endangering Jake, Jason swore this was the last time. Back at the Spencer house, Lucky read to Liz and the boys. "This is what life is all about," Liz beamed. When Jason dropped Sam off, he thanked her. "I owed Jake, and I owed you and Elizabeth," Sam noted. "That's done now," he replied.
Wednesday
Jason returned to Spinelli at the penthouse — just as Maxie came downstairs, chirping "Good morning!" Jason insisted, "Maxie can't stay with us," because he didn't want her endangered like Jake was. After she left, Spinelli admitted he didn't want her endangered either. Stone Cold lamented that his trigger-happiness almost caused Jake's death. Switching gears, he vowed to make it "expensive" for the Russians to stay in town. Diane arrived to tell Jason he's about to be questioned by the feds regarding the roadhouse and the deaths of four men. She advised him to tell the feds "exactly what happened — and why." Later, at the courthouse, Jason ran into Sam.
A newly confident Robin and Emma sent Patrick off to work with a good breakfast, but as soon as he left, Emma started bawling. At GH, Patrick bantered with Matt, and updated Epiphany on Robin's maternal progress. Alexis was there, too, and she ran into Sam, who recounted her experiences with Jerry on the freighter. Sam highly doubted he survived the explosion. Alexis insisted Jerry was working her (and vice versa), and revealed the charges against Sam are being dropped. Meanwhile, Patrick wondered if his lowered expectations make fatherhood easier for him; Robin expects perfection. Back at the apartment, Robin could not console Emma. When Maxie arrived, her voice calmed the child. Robin wondered if Emma doesn't like her. Maxie reassured her, then told Robin she needs a place to live. After rebuffing Robin's offers of cash, Maxie left. Emma started crying again, only to stop as soon as Patrick returned. Robin felt like "a total screw-up,"and sighed, "I'm a terrible mother."
In Ohio, Nikolas offered to help Nadine with her chores, but she figured he was incapable of manual labor. After talking her into it, he wondered, "How do you milk a cow?" Faced with actually touching the cow, Nik balked — opting to make out with Nadine instead. Later, Nadine admitted they have a milking machine. Then Aunt Raylene strolled in to ask, "Have you two decided on a date for your wedding?" Not wanting to lie, Nadine confessed she isn't marrying Nik, but has a happy life anyway. Raylene said that's all she wanted to know. Nadine apologized to Nik for pushing him toward marriage. Nik agreed not to marry her now, but left the door open for the future. She promised she would only marry for love. Then Nadine realized that Aunt Raylene had quietly passed away.
Jax burst into Johnny's place to announce he was repossessing it, so Johnny and Lulu had to bounce. Lulu went to check out an apartment for rent — only to find Maxie already there. Maxie was skeeved out by the dump, but when she learned Lulu was interested Maxie suddenly was, too. Lulu suggested sharing it and splitting the rent. Maxie agreed.
Alice welcomed Luke back to the Quartermaine mansion, but Edward was not so kind — accusing him of letting Tracy get a divorce. Edward feared a newly single Tracy would be an "angry, scolding harridan." Cue Tracy, who told Luke the divorce was a done deal — and ordered him out! Edward was suspicious of Tracy's calm demeanor, and forced her to admit she hadn't really gone through with it; she just wanted to fool Luke. Too bad Luke was eavesdropping....
Thursday
Robin lamented to Patrick that she feels like a bad mother, then left. She ran into Mac in the park, and shared her frustration. Mac tried to reassure her, then went and got popcorn in order to illustrate a point: When in doubt, bribe your kid. He reminded her no parent ever stops wanting the best for their kids — or worrying about messing up. Then Patrick showed up with a sleeping Emma — and words of encouragement. Back home, Emma started crying until Patrick picked her up and danced with her.
Claudia figured if Olivia was well enough to snoop around the house she was well enough to leave. But Sonny pointed out his wife doesn't speak for him. Still, he noted that Liv might feel more comfortable at Kate's. Olivia recalled dating the young Sonny, who kept taking the jobs from Joe Scully that put him on the road to being a gangster. Later, Sonny told Max he wanted to cook lunch for Claudia. Sonny suggested that if Karpov didn't shoot Kate, it must have been a Zacchara, so he planned to gain Claudia's trust by letting her think she's getting to him. Later, Claudia was surprised that Sonny prepared soup and sandwiches. (She swapped plates, just to be safe.) They bonded over a mutual love of cooking. "I'm touched that you did this," she admitted. "What's it gonna cost me?"
Elizabeth thanked Lucky for his support, and hoped he would continue to be part of the boys' lives. Then she got a call summoning her to give a statement in Jake's kidnapping. Meanwhile, at the courthouse, Jason and Sam prepared to give their statements. Sam made note of how, following the sort of life-and-death situations they've been in, normal life seems dull and flat. Then they met Special Agent Thomas Rayner (known to us as soap journeyman Mark Pinter). Rayner asked, "Why shouldn't you both be charged with murder?" Jason and Sam teamed up to tell the story of sending Liz, Sam and the boys to the cabin, where they fought off the Russians, then had to rescue Jake from the roadhouse. Rayner said that while the coroner's report notes various Russians died from bullet wounds, a broken neck and the explosion, the evidence also indicates Jason and Sam acted in defense of a minor child, so the case is closed; no charges. Later, Sam noted that Sasha got away; Jason vowed to make her pay. Sam went home, where she welcomed Lucky. She admitted she felt guilty about letting Jake get kidnapped long ago. He kissed her, but she suddenly backed off. Back at the courthouse, Jason was stunned to see Liz arrive. He confessed that because he went in with guns blazing, a Russian set off the explosion that almost killed their son.
As Lulu and Maxie started moving into their new digs, they argued over who got the big bedroom with the giant closet. When Spinelli arrived, the girls asked him to decide, but he balked. When Johnny arrived, he and Spinelli cut cards for the room. Spinelli got a Jack, but Johnny's ace of spades won the day for Lulu. Spinelli was then shocked to learn that Johnny is moving in.
After listening to Tracy explain her deception, Luke burst into the Quartermaine living and pretended to be stinking drunk with grief over their divorce. Tracy challenged him to have another heart attack. When Luke fondly recalled their wedding in Las Vegas he tried to kiss her, and she realized there was no alcohol on his breath. He confessed he'll never get over her, but she refused to play second fiddle to Laura, and threw him out despite his pleas that Laura is out of the picture. Alan appeared, and asked how she would feel if Luke really did drink himself to death?
Friday
Sonny and Claudia discussed whether they should consummate their (strictly business) marriage: She was for it; he was against. Then he left to visit Mike. Ric arrived to needle Claudia about her marriage, but she insisted Sonny will share his power...someday. Ric asked her to trust him, but she was skeptical that he just wanted to steal his brother's wife. At G.H., Sonny found Kate already visiting Mike. While she was indignant about his marriage, Sonny said he did it to learn who shot her. She didn't care. In fact, she thought being shot a second time was good because it taught her they shouldn't be together. "I slept with Jax," she admitted. "That's not right," Sonny muttered, and then she left. Sonny said he married Claudia to take over the Zacchara organization and learn who shot Kate. Mike was worried, but Sonny noted, "If I haven't died yet, ain't gonna happen." Sonny retuned home to confront Claudia about meeting with Ric. She said she cannot be an obedient wife, but someone has to make the first move if they are going to get over their suspicions of one another. So he kissed her!
In Ohio, Nadine thanked Nikolas for helping with funeral arrangements for Aunt Raylene. Just then a childhood friend named Eric Holt showed up to comfort Nadine. She noted he was Raylene's attorney. Eric said Raylene's will must be read right after the funeral — and she left Nadine something important.
Spinelli tried to talk Johnny out of moving in with Lulu and Maxie. Lulu and Johnny went into her room to make out. Maxie thought Spinelli's jealousy was cute, and revealed she didn't mind Johnny being around — in fact, since she has no love life of her own, seeing Johnny shirtless would be the highlight of her day. After Spinelli pointed out that Maxie's room is just one foot smaller than Lulu's they heard the sounds of some heavy thumping coming from Lulu's room. When she couldn't take it anymore, Maxie burst in to find Lulu and Johnny moving furniture. (That's not a euphemism; they were really moving a desk.)
At the courthouse, Jason insisted he can never see Elizabeth again. She felt guilty for rationalizing sticking with him over his objections. "We're both responsible," he said. "There will be no contact with me, you and Jake again." He put millions of dollars into an untraceable account for her, bought her house for her, and set up a trust for the kids, because if Jake can't have Jason's name, at least he can have his money. Liz promised to give the kids good life, and not call Jason or try to see him. They both admitted they were selfish for wanting to be together, then tearfully parted company without a kiss or even a handshake goodbye. Jason went home to work a punching bag. At home, Sam told Lucky she gave a statement to the feds, but the Russians will doubtless still come after her. Worried about Sam, Lucky went to the courthouse, where he found Liz, who said she just gave her statement to the feds, and updated Lucky on her agreement with Jason. She feels like God has given her another chance to be a good mother. Lucky commiserated with her pain, and offered to be there for her. Meanwhile, Carly visited Jason and offered her shoulder, so he told her about his latest decision.
Spinelli went home to tell Jason about the apartment, but Jason wanted Spinelli to research the Russians. He also suggested the Jackal look into getting a new lair. While they discussed it, someone hacked Spinelli's laptop and started copying his files. Meanwhile, Sam was bringing home groceries when she spotted Sasha and a thug go into a building. Sam broke broke into Sasha's van and was rooting through a box of files when the Russians returned. She heard Sasha make a phone call about eliminating Jason.
