General Hospital Recaps
GH Week of February 1, 2010
Monday
As Olivia knelt over Dante's body, she shrieked for the confused Sonny to call 911: "His name is Dante — and he's your son, too!" Sonny dialed for help, then fetched some towels — but he also chided Olivia for not telling him the truth about Dante. "You know what I do to traitors," he shrugged, but he insisted he never would have raised a hand against his own son. "I made several mistakes, okay?" she responded, and explained that Dante has no idea Sonny is his daddy. Sonny helped Liv stanch Dante's bleeding (while excoriating her for letting his son try to bring him down). When the EMTs arrived, Sonny joined Liv for the ride in, noting, "I'm his father." Meanwhile, after the christening ceremony, Lulu and Johnny discussed how Dominic was probably arresting Sonny right at that moment. Luke managed to corral all his kids, and sighed that they are safe. Morgan and Michael wondered where their dad and Dominic were. Jax told a skeptical Lady Jane that he was prepared to face Carly's wrath for getting Sonny arrested, but he has a responsibility to keep his family safe. She felt sorry for Michael and Morgan. Molly recruited Morgan to stay behind after everyone else went to the Jacks homestead for the party. Molly tried to convince Jason and Sam that the church was the perfect place for a wedding, and tried to wheedle a proposal out of Stone Cold by filling his and Sam's heads with tales of love straight out of her romance novels. (Morgan just wanted to go eat cake.) Sam assured her sister that she can be happy without being married, and Jason suggested they all let Sam decide. Max and Milo wondered why they haven't heard from Dominic. Lulu dialed Dom's cell, which rang uselessly in his coat, left behind in Sonny's study. Carly thanked everyone for attending — and credited Jax with making her dreams come true.
In the ambulance, Olivia held Dante's hand and begged him to live. At the ER, Steve turned Dante over to Lisa. When Sonny announced to Steve that he is Dante's father, Epiphany dropped a tray. Olivia confessed to Sonny that the reason she never told him she was pregnant was because he took up with her cousin, and she didn't want him to know he had hurt her. Sonny asked if there were any other baby-daddy candidates, but Liv said no. Later, she maintained her silence to protect Dante. Sonny mused how it was no wonder they clicked instantly, and Morgan loved him. Steve reported that the bullet lodged close to Dante's spine. He can't make any guarantees about Dante walking again — or even surviving. At the party, Kristina quizzed Michael about Jax, and Lulu asked Jason about Dom. Then Sonny called Robin, asking her to come to the hospital. Steve told Sonny he notified the police about the GSW, as required by law, and asked what happened.
Back at the reception, Jason told Spinelli he hadn't heard anything. Lulu left to investigate on her own. Carly opened Josslyn's presents — including an unmarked DVD. Morgan insisted on watching it immediately. It turned out to be Franco's monologue about how he doesn't have the same emotional connections as other people. When Robin and Patrick arrived, Sonny asked them to save Dante — his son. Patrick agreed. Robin was shocked that Patrick knew, because he'd overheard it. Olivia went to Dante's room and gave him a pep talk. She suggested he shouldn't make the same mistakes his father made: Life is not about revenge and money and power, it's about kids. He suddenly regained consciousness. "Ma," he croaked. "Tell Lulu..." then passed out again. Liv told him about the bullet by his spine. Sonny went to the chapel to light a candle and pray. "It's not right to kill," he admitted. Then he found a way to make it about himself, suggesting that God was punishing him. When Sonny returned to Dante's bedside, he noted that they must have a bond. "I still can't believe you're my son," he said — just as Dante's eyes opened a little. Lulu went to Sonny's place, and found Dom's scattered, bloody clothing. Back at GH, Sonny reassured the nervous Dante: "I'm not gonna hurt you. It was all a mistake. I'm your father."
Tuesday
At Sonny's place, Lulu asked Max what Sonny did to Dominic. Sonny was, in fact, at Dante's bedside, vowing to make things right, when Olivia interrupted and scolded him for burdening Dante with discussion of their identity. Meanwhile, Lisa updated Robin and Patrick about Dante's condition — and Patrick seized control, claiming that if Dante is to survive, he must perform the procedure. Lisa deferred to him. At PCPD, Maxie was shocked to see Agent Rayner. She was shocked even more to learn that Dominic is actually a cop. She was even more shocked when Rayner revealed that Sonny is Dante's father! Mac observed the biblical irony of Sonny shooting his own kid. At the Jacks homestead, Jason ordered the kids to turn off Franco's DVD. Lulu burst in and demanded to know if Sonny had killed Dominic because he's an undercover cop. Carly was stunned. Lulu freaked out, announcing that she is going to hospital, and if Dom is dead, then she's going to the cops and telling everything she knows about Jason and Sonny's operation. After she left, Kristina exploded that her father ruins everything, and if Dominic dies, that would be "murder with special circumstances." Morgan was upset that his friend Dominic had been shot. Michael wondered why Jax did not get the case quashed. Back at the hospital, Sonny blasted Olivia for lying to him for years, but she pointed out, "I'm not the guy that shoots people who get in my way." She said she kept Dante away from Sonny because, "I hated the life that you chose." He continued to blame her, until Robin stepped in.
Agent Rayner and Ronnie arrived at Sonny's place, which had been scrubbed clean, and Max played dumb. Olivia held Dante's hand, noting, "You are gonna be fine." Johnny walked in, and offered his support to her. She recounted how proud she was of Dante, and how she tried to get him out of town without learning about Sonny. She couldn't reveal the truth because she couldn't predict how Sonny would react. When Lulu arrived at GH Matt told her about Dominic. She saw Sonny and went medieval on him, screaming, "You shot him!" Nikolas and Robin pulled her away. "I didn't know he was my son," Sonny protested. Meanwhile, Steve told Patrick he's off the case — as a trauma specialist, Steve will operate. Patrick pulled his God act, but Steve pulled rank. When Lulu visited Dom, Liv confirmed that Sonny is his father, but that Dante didn't know. "He asked for you," Liv noted, before blaming herself for this mess.
Back at the Jacks place, Morgan was angry at Sonny, whom Michael defended by calling Dom an undercover cop and a liar. Morgan shouted, "I hate Dad for shooting Dominic!" The boy wondered if Dom was only pretending to be his friend, but Jax reassured him. Jason changed into his work clothes, then went to hospital, where Sonny filled him in about Dante's true identity. Jason wanted to get Sonny out of the country, but Sonny refused to leave his son, so Jason called Diane. Maxie ran into Robin, who confirmed everything. Then she ran into Johnny and swapped notes. Steve promised Lulu he would do his best, and Lisa promised Patrick likewise. Sonny warned Steve that Dante better survive — or else! Olivia prepped her son for surgery by begging him, "Don't you dare disappoint your mother!" Then Dante woke up, and Lulu told him she loves him. Later, Nik tried to comfort Lulu in Dante's room, as she lamented squandering her time with Dom. Jason told Michael that Sonny is Dante's father. And that Sonny will be arrested, so Michael has to keep it together. Sonny walked up and hugged Michael, then Ronnie arrived and arrested Sonny for Claudia's murder. As Sonny was dragged away, he called out to Olivia, "Tell Dante that I love him, and I'm sorry."
On the operating table, Dante hallucinated seeing himself as a child going after a grown-up Sonny — who coldly shot him again. Then the real Dante flatlined.
Wednesday
At the PCPD, Jason met with Diane to discuss Sonny's fate. Just then, Jason spotted Sam coming into the station in disguise. Pretending to be a loose woman who was "loitering," she flirted with the officer who was processing her paperwork. Sam charmed the cop to pump him for info about Sonny's arrest. He pointed out the gun that they were holding as evidence. As Jason watched, Diane noticed the hooker and realized it was Sam. Sam purposely
spilled some coffee on the officer's desk and when he went to get something to clean it up, Sam took the gun and slipped it into her boot. Just then, Agent Raynor walked in and demanded to know what was going on. Jason walked out of the interrogation room and demanded to see Sonny. In the commotion, the officer returned and said Sam was free to go. She slinked out with the weapon.
Michael went to Jax and asked for a ride to the PCPD to confess. Jax admired Michael's desire to come clean but pointed out that thanks to Sonny and Jason, there's no evidence to support his confession.
Carly met Olivia at G.H., and was uncharacteristically sympathetic to Olivia's plight, having gone through something similar with Michael. Olivia said she had no regrets bringing up Dante in a world without organized crime.
At the nurses' station, Robin and Patrick quibbled over the fact that he knew Dante's secret but didn't say anything to his wife. They then continued to bicker over patients and everything else. Patrick claimed it was not his secret to tell. When he brought up how Robin spilled Michael's paternity, Robin stormed off in a huff. Frustrated, Patrick asked Lisa to join him for a beer.
At Dante's bedside, Luke came to visit Lulu, who was happy to see her dear old dad. Lulu filled him in on all the revelations. Luke was stunned. Lulu told her father she was furious at Sonny's behavior. Luke returned to The Haunted Star and informed Tracy and Ethan about Dante's shooting. Luke advised Ethan to be supportive of his sister. Alone, Tracy and Luke wondered if Dante really cared for Lulu of if he was just working her like everyone else. Back at G.H., Carly visited Lulu to lend her cousin support. Lulu regretted the time she spent pushing Dante away. Carly advised Lulu to be strong, because miracles do happen.
Olivia found Jax in the chapel. He was praying for Dante's recovery and that Carly would forgive him for his deception. Olivia mentioned that that she could endure his rejection as long as Dante survived.
At the lake house, Michael and Morgan filled in the girls about Dante's true identity. Kristina was furious their father could shoot his own son. The kids debated Sonny's fate. In his defense of Sonny, Michael blurted out that he killed Claudia.
Ethan visited Lulu at G.H. and told her that Dante will need her full support, considering he has a father he'd never known about. Just then, Dante stirred and opened his eyes. "I'm glad you're here," he whispered to an elated Lulu. Dante told his lady love he had a dream that Sonny said he was his father. Lulu didn't know what to say.
Jason went to Carly and asked her to talk to Sonny about leaving the country to keep him out of jail.
Thursday
In the chapel, Olivia lamented not telling Sonny her secret sooner, while Jax said he must tell Carly his secret now. Meanwhile, Jason was trying to convince Carly to persuade Sonny to flee the country, but she thought maybe it's time Sonny faces the music. Jason pointed out that if Sonny flees, it will close the Claudia case and leave Michael safe. Michael was at that moment explaining to Kristina, Molly and Morgan how he killed Claudia. The kids urged him to plead self-defense, but when Alexis arrived everyone clammed up. At PCPD, Diane tried to discuss Sonny's defense, but he was only interested in Dante's surgery. Diane warned that any bail will be high, and that he should forget about visiting the hospital and help himself. Later, Carly visited Sonny to report that Dante had survived. Sonny told her how he felt connected Dominic, and how, after he shot Dante, he felt like his children always pay for his sins. Ronnie showed up at the penthouse with a search warrant for the missing gun, but it wasn't there. After he left Jason explained to Sam that Sonny cannot survive prison in prison, but if he jumps bail, all of their legitimate assets would be forfeited. Sam offered to hire him at Jackal & McCall, and let him move in with her.
From his hospital bed, Dante told Lulu he remembers her saying that she loves him, and Sonny claiming to be his father. She confirmed it all. He also vaguely recalled hearing Olivia scream that he was Sonny's son — and realized that meant she has been lying to him for years. Mac found Lucky drinking beer and shooting pool at Jake's. Lucky was feeling fatalistic. Despite the fact that Lucky was drinking at that moment, Mac asked him to go question Dante. Dante was asking his mother if she had planned to ever tell him about Sonny. At the lake house, Alexis and the kids compared notes. Molly suggested shooting Dante might be just a mistake. Alexis said it's okay to love Sonny and hate what he does, because while he has done terrible things, he would lay down his life for his kids. Back at PCPD, Carly ordered Sonny to disappear if he makes bail. Diane entered with news that she got bail — but it is so high that it will cost him everything if he flees.
Olivia admitted to Dante that she should have told him about Sonny, but she did not want him to grow up as Sonny's kid. She revealed she told Rayner the truth to try to get him pulled from the case. He called her a liar for pretending not to know who his father was, but she countered that she made sure he was surrounded by better role models than Sonny. She admitted how much he reminds her of Sonny — good-looking, smart and brave. But had Sonny known, Dante would eventually have been dragged into that world. She didn't tell him when he came to Port Charles because she was ashamed and feared his reaction. "I'm sorry. I was wrong," she sobbed. He said knowing he is Sonny's spawn changes who he is. She disagreed but left his side. Ronnie warned Liv that things are about to get worse. Lulu warned Jax that if he doesn't come clean with Carly, she will! When he retuned home, Carly told him she talked Sonny into jumping bail. So he confessed that he knew about Dante, and helped him target Sonny.
At the airport with Jason, Sonny balked at fleeing the country — and his children. Ronnie brought Olivia to PCPD for questioning, and Lucky asked Dante for his statement about the shooting.
Friday
At the airport, Sonny told Jason he cannot leave his son behind. "He's a rat!" Jason bellowed. "I'm not leaving," Sonny replied. At PCPD, Olivia told Mac and Ronnie she cannot help them arrest Sonny for shooting Dante, because she didn't see that. She insisted that when she walked in, Dante was already shot (which was true). Ronnie tried to move her off her story, but she wouldn't budge. At the hospital, Dante gave Lucky his statement: "My shooting was an accident." He wove a story about how he set out to arrest Sonny and was trying to unload one of Sonny's guns when it went off, and then Sonny came in. "You shot yourself?" Lucky asked. "Good luck getting anyone to believe you," and stormed out. Lulu hated the idea of Dante lying — almost as much as he did. "I did it for me," he explained, noting that he screwed up the bust and feels guilty. Still, the murder charges stemming from Claudia's death should be enough to lock Sonny up. Then Morgan arrived, and asked if his friendship was just a cover. Dante assured the boy he is sincerely his friend. Dante noted he hates Sonny's business, and he told some lies as part of his job, but only to bring down Sonny. Morgan realized it is complicated, and admitted he's happy Dante is alive and his brother. After he left, Lulu brought Dante sweet tea (on Olivia's advice). Meanwhile, Lucky called Mac to tell him about Dante's statement. Sonny ran into Luke at GH, and they discussed father/son bonds. Sonny told Luke his first reaction to learning Dante is a cop was not betrayal, but regret. Luke offered to get him out of the country, but Sonny insisted on staying and looking Dante in the eye to say he's sorry. Then Olivia delivered the news: Dante claimed he shot himself, and she didn't contradict that, so Sonny can skate.
At General Hospital, Epiphany introduced Elizabeth to a mother whose son burned himself while she was canoodling with a man. When the woman apologized to her son, Liz scolded her for "seeking absolution" from the child she hurt. "You don't deserve to be a mother!" Elizabeth screamed. Nikolas had to pull her away. She wanted nothing to do with him, so he told her that as a board member, he's placing her on leave. She told him she feels like the only one paying for their trysting. Nik summoned Lucky to Jake's to tell him Elizabeth is losing it, so Lucky needs to reach out to her. Later, Lucky was ordering shots when Elizabeth walked in. Kiefer and Kristina found themselves alone at the lake house. She told him that her father shot a cop — and how she fears that Sonny thinks of his children as disposable. Kiefer offered a word of comfort — and then put the moves on her. She didn't want to have sex, which angered him. He accused her of sending mixed signals, and when she said he wasn't being nice, he hit her in the face!
Carly couldn't believe Jax helped Dante arrest Sonny. He insisted he did it to protect his family. "That's crap!" she snarled, noting that he "won" his war with Sonny but, "I hope it was worth losing your family." She suggested he never should have married her, since he knew she had close ties to Sonny. Jax noted that even if Sonny didn't killed Claudia, Sonny has capped plenty of others. She reminded him, "When you hurt Sonny, you hurt Michael and Morgan." Jax countered that Sonny being in jail helps Michael, Morgan and Josslyn. Later, Carly packed up Josslyn and Morgan and walked out. Jax vowed not to give up on them. Sam and Jason returned to the penthouse with beer and Chinese food, where he told her Sonny refused to flee. Sam noted that Sonny is all about his kids. (Well, that and shooting people.) They started kissing, but there was a knock at the door: Carly and the kids. "We're moving in," she announced. Back home, Jax told Michael that he helped Dante arrest Sonny. "You used me against my father!" Michael screamed, and punched Jax!
At GH, Lulu marveled that Sonny gets to walk again. Liv claimed guilt would eat Sonny alive (we should be so lucky). Sonny visited Dante, who said, "Hey, Dad. Turns out you're one hell of a shot."
