General Hospital Recaps
GH Week of February 2, 2009
Monday
Ethan Lovett tried to talk his way out of Luke's gunsights, and while it didn't exactly work, Luke recognized a kindred spirit and engaged the smooth-talking Aussie in a round of blackjack, during which, Luke won back the cash Ethan had grabbed, and Ethan said he's traveling the world, enjoying booze and women, and never met his father. Luke offered Ethan a job as a shill, but the kid declined. Luke sent him packing, and barred him from the Haunted Star.
As Jax knocked on the locked front doors of the hospital, Jason and Sam explained the facility is quarantined. Meanwhile, in the ER, someone stole one of Earl's little red poison balls. Mac tried to arrange an evacuation of the hospital but was told to wait. He then told Lucky how Elizabeth collapsed after being exposed to Earl's balls. Epiphany told Jason Elizabeth is critical. Back at the hospital, the collapsed Claudia was wheeled out. Anthony expressed concern for his daughter, but Sonny was suspicious. Anthony warned Ric that if Claudia blabbed to Sonny about Kate's shooting, Ric will pay. Ric quizzed Nadine about toxins, but the nurse didn't know much. Edward, Tracy, Anthony, Ric, Sonny and Carly argued over who should be taken out for decontamination next. Anthony was the lucky duck. Tracy accused Carly of whitewashing Michael's condition — and Edward blamed Sonny. Elsewhere in the hospital, Lulu was antsy about Johnny, while Zen-like Spinelli searched for accident reports. Unfortunately, he found mention that Maxie's car was found "crashed and abandoned." Matt awakened in a room, where Patrick revealed Earl was carrying spheres of poison, and assured his brother the disaster was not his fault. Patrick said the poison "is and it isn't" fatal. Leyla awakened and gasped for breath. "There's something I need to tell you," she croaked. She's happy for his happiness, now that she has found some of her own. "Everything works out in the end," she said — then flatlined. In the hub, Sam stopped Lulu from trying to enter the contaminated area. Then Lucky appeared. "I broke in," he confessed. "I need to make sure Elizabeth's okay." Jason heard Claudia rambling that she had to warn Sonny about Anthony before she passed out. Then he pointed Lucky toward Liz. Jason and Sam wondered if Earl had co-conspirators. Lucky went to Elizabeth's room and vowed to stay by her side and offer her his strength. Tracy was taken out next, and learned that Epiphany had to scrub her down. Sonny told Carly this disaster wasn't her fault, and marveled at how good she is in a crisis. The phone rang — it was Jax! "I love you so much, Jax," she said. After getting decontaminated, she rushed to the front doors to meet him.
Maxie complained about being snowed in at the garage with Johnny who, recalling a youth spent learning piano and cars, dreamed of opening a custom garage, but lacks a license. Maxie encouraged him to follow his bliss — after all, she has dreams, "right down to my stilettos." She talked about her love for fashion mags as a child, and how working for Kate is "just a stepping-stone." She wants to team with an up-and-coming designer to form a fashion house. She credited Spinelli for believing in her, but worried about blowing her opportunities, as she always does.
Back at GH, Anthony gave his nurse the slip, and found Claudia unconscious. He noted how he sees her mother's "treachery" in her, and since she knows he shot Kate, "I have to shut you up for good." In the OR gallery, Jason realized one of Earl's balls was missing. "This just got a whole lot worse" Sam sighed.
Tuesday
When Sonny interrupted Anthony's plan to silence his daughter, Anthony feigned concern for her condition, which piqued Sonny's curiosity. Anthony rolled away in frustration. When Sonny stepped out, Anthony returned, stood up from his wheelchair and raised a pillow to her face. Trevor walked in and was shocked to see Anthony standing. Trevor revealed he faked symptoms to get out of the contamination zone. As Anthony asked Trevor to help him "kill his traitorous bitch," Claudia awoke and secretly hit the call button. Elsewhere, Patrick tried frantically to revive Leyla, but failed. Epiphany showed the grieving Patrick a photo of Leyla's fianc&eacu te; — then the poor guy walked up to Patrick, bubbling about how happy they are. So Patrick told him Leyla was dead. Sonny asked Patrick for an explanation of what happened, then Sam reported that one of the poison spheres was missing. Sonny advised Patrick to keep that quiet. Meanwhile, at home, Robin realized Emma had a fever, and left Patrick a voicemail saying she's bringing the child to GH. When Kate awoke, she asked Olivia about her purse — specifically the DVD, which "could be a matter of life and death." Liv reluctantly agreed to fetch it. On her way to the boardroom, she ran into Sonny, and updated him on Kate's condition. Later, Liv reported back to Kate that everything taken from board room was slated to be burned. At the hub, Spinelli contacted Winifred to ask about Earl's accomplices, and then reported to Patrick that Winifred found none. Patrick checked his phone and got Robin's message. Nikolas was talking to Nadine when Rebecca wandered by, distracting him. Then Lulu flagged down her brother. He told her he saw "Emily" again, but Lulu was skeptical. He asked about Johnny, and she said the relationship isn't going the way she thought after he dumped his family.
At the garage, Johnny insisted that Lulu doesn't know the real him, and admitted he has been looking for a way to end their relationship before Lulu learns "the truth." Maxie said she also is just waiting for disaster to strike her friendship with Spinelli, because she "disappoints people." She pointed out she felt a lot of pressure to succeed after receiving B.J.'s heart, so she rebelled by going the other way and put up walls to keep people away. Johnny joked about her mistake being sleeping with him, but she noted that's just the kind of thing she would do, because it would ruin both her and Spinelli and him and Lulu. The pair rationalized that sleeping together would "spare" Lulu learning Johnny's horrible secret, and thus be sort of a favor. So they started making out.
Ethan arrived in a dive bar only to find his gal, Nina, making out with Luke. (He paid her $10 to put on a show for Ethan.) Luke scoffed at how easy it was to tail Ethan, but the kid insisted he wanted to be followed — and wanted to team up with Luke, since he's a younger "more attractive" version of Luke. Ethan surrendered the cash he stole — less $500, which was a problem.
Trevor was reluctant to help Anthony kill Claudia. Anthony explained how she might rat him out to Sonny, and Trevor flipped when he realized Anthony shot Kate. He tried to strangle Anthony, but Nadine's arrival broke it up, and she shooed the gangsters away. When Sonny arrived, Claudia told him her father just tried to kill her to keep a secret. "He's not really paralyzed. He can walk," she revealed. "And on the day that you almost married Kate, he's the one that shot her."
Wednesday
Patrick could not contact Robin to warn her about the quarantine, because his wife was driving with both the oil light and check engine lights on. Plus, she was lost. When she stopped the car it wouldn't restart, and Emma wouldn't stop crying. Robin decided to strike out on foot rather than freeze to death, but instead of walking along the road, she took the newborn into the snowy woods.
At GH, Patrick could not get answers from Agent Rayner about how to battle the biotoxin. Lulu tried to open the doors, but Carly advised her not to try to sneak out, because the gas could escape. Lulu wondered why Johnny wasn't banging on the doors, trying to get in. Could have been because he was passionately kissing Maxie at the garage. But the duo found the willpower not to go any further. Maxie said it would be better for Spinelli if she let him go to Winifred. Johnny insisted he was trying to protect Lulu from his secret, but admitted having sex would not have solved anything. Maxie was surprised that she made a good choice — hurting Spinelli would just kill her. And she pointed out that Johnny stopped himself because he loves Lulu. Maxie recapped her faults (like supplying Lucky with drugs), but Johnny pointed out that she's been a good friend to Spinelli and Lulu. Maxie hinted she would have gone through with the sex. Johnny decided to put chains on the car and head back to town. Outside GH, Jax demanded answers from Rayner, who readily explained the national security matter to the complete stranger. "Anyone attempting to leave that hospital will be shot on sight," Rayner warned. Alexis arrived to point out there will be legal nightmares due to overlapping jurisdictions. Inside GH, Epiphany gave Lulu a list of duties to occupy her time. Patrick asked Carly who in the boardroom would have a motive to cause all this mayhem?
When Elizabeth awoke, she was glad to see Lucky; it reminded her of when they were kids and he slept on her floor to make her feel safe. He recalled being roommates on Baxter Street. A stricken Jason eavesdropped for a while as they laughed and relived old times. She asked Lucky if he ever wondered where they'd be if they had stayed together? He admitted he tries not to, and acknowledged she did everything to keep their marriage together. "I've made so many bad mistakes," he noted as they held hands — and a disappointed Sam watched from the hall. "We did have one perfect wedding," Lucky noted, "straight out of a fairy tale." But they were young and needed time to grow up. Elsewhere, when Tracy brought Edward coffee, he suggested she should have gone into medicine, like Alan. Tracy pointed out that Edward always hated Alan's medical career, but Edward insisted he was actually proud of his son. The arguing woke up Monica. When Jason entered, Monica asked him if he had anything to do with the catastrophe. Jason said he's working with the FBI to control it — and would never intentionally hurt innocents. She was glad to hear him say that out loud, and sent him off to help people. "I always thought that he would be a doctor," Monica sighed. Jason found Carly and filled her in on the missing sphere. Then Sam reported people freaking out. While Lulu and Spinelli fretted about Johnny and Maxie, Jax told Carly he's trying to get in, but she warned him away. Tracy scolded Patrick for letting the situation escalate — then suddenly collapsed! At the doors, Jason stopped a man from busting the glass, so the guy pulled a gun and took Jason hostage. Sam drew on the guy, and Jason urged her to shoot. With the gunman distracted, Jason made his move, Sam fired — and hit Jason in the arm. "You shot me," he gasped.
Thursday
"I can't believe you shot me," Jason cried, clutching his left arm. "You told me to," Sam replied, as the troublemaker ran off. Epiphany patched Jason up, but he remained mum on who shot him. Spinelli burst in to warn Jason that Equinox must be stopped. While Nikolas visited Elizabeth, Rebecca stood in the hall outside. Nik proposed that he, Liz and Lucky have dinner when Kelly's is reopened. (He's not inviting Nadine.) While Liz slept, Lucky tried to memorize her face, and Nik admitted he felt the same way about Emily. Oh, and he thought he saw her again tonight. Elsewhere, Carly summoned help for Tracy, then expressed fear the poison is traveling through the air. Patrick had no answers — and could not get any from Agent Rayner, who revealed that his superiors have taken the reins of the case. Rayner ordered Winifred to lead a team into the hospital to retrieve the rest of the poison spheres. Spinelli urged Patrick not to cooperate because Equinox was manipulating the FBI into covering up everything, and if the spheres are recovered, Equinox will use them for evil. However, Patrick wanted the poison out of the hospital. After Winifred's team arrived, Patrick demanded that the FBI go look for Robin on the roads. Someone else joined Winifred in the OR: Spinelli. Carly checked on Edward, who insisted he was "too mean to die." When she told him Tracy was sick he admitted he was always secretly proud of Tracy's strength and intelligence — and now he feared for her. Carly admitted she will always fear for her children, too. Edward visited Tracy and recited the roll call of Quartermaine dead. "Too seldom did I tell you that I love you," he admitted. Tracy woke up and croaked, "You're gonna make me sick."
In Johnny's car, Maxie explained the difference between weather and climate while Johnny didn't think it was a good idea to take Maxie home after their kiss. They happened upon Robin's abandoned minivan, and set out to follow some footprints in the snow. They found Emma's baby empty carrier, then located Robin buried in the snow — but no baby.
When Claudia awoke, Sonny asked if it's true that Anthony shot Kate, because, "You know what happens next." She recapped her father's plot to lure Sonny into the Zacchara fold. "My father has to be stopped," she said. Later, Anthony rolled up on Claudia again, and while he ranted, Sonny came up behind him and took him to another room. Alone, Sonny drew his gun and accused Anthony of shooting Kate. The elder Zacchara insisted Claudia was lying. Back in her room, Claudia told Carly that Sonny will need an alibi because he was about to murder Anthony. Sonny was unconvinced by Anthony's fast-talk, but then Jason burst in, insisting, "You can't kill him." When Sonny tried to shoot anyway, Jason knocked the shot off his target. Anthony jumped up and ran away, as Sonny shot at him.
Friday
In the snowy woods. Robin had no idea where Emma was. Maxie heard Emma crying, and found her stuffed into a hole in a tree, where Robin put her to protect her from the storm. Back at the disabled minivan, Robin refused to hold Emma. Johnny fixed the vehicle, and they headed for GH. Robin called Patrick, who tried to warn her away from GH, but her phone died. Elsewhere at GH, Nikolas caught a glimpse of Rebecca and went looking for her. He ran into Carly, who hadn't seen "Emily's ghost" anywhere. Nik turned a corner, and was suddenly face-to-face with the mystery woman. When Maxie, Johnny, Robin and Emma arrived at GH, Jax kept them from going inside.
While shooting pool, Luke mentioned "Holly" to Ethan, who mentioned knowing a knockout named Holly himself — Holly Sutton. Luke was immediately suspicious.Ethan confessed he was adopted and never knew his real parents; his adoptive parents died in a car wreck, and he's been a wanderer ever since. He met Holly Sutton by chance, and while she spoke fondly of Port Charles, N.Y, she never mentioned Luke. Luke pointed out Ethan originally said he arrived in town at random.
Jason told Sam that Anthony can walk, and they have to find him before Sonny kills him. Anthony literally ran into Ric, followed by Sonny, who told Ric, "Revenge is its own reward." Claudia told Carly that Anthony can walk. Carly went to Kate's room and told her Anthony shot her. Kate believed that after Sonny took his revenge, he would return to her. Anthony fled to the chapel, where Trevor found him. Trevor promised to distract Sonny, leaving Anthony to rail at God. Trevor found Sonny, but instead of protecting his boss, he told Sonny where to find him, as "my gift to Kate." Ric visited Claudia to accuse her of betraying him to Sonny. Ric feared being frozen out when Anthony dies. Then Trevor arrived to needle Richie about Claudia marrying Sonny. When Ric left, Trevor revealed that he had stolen the sphere of biotoxin, and was carrying it in a pill jar. He planned to barter his freedom with it. Then Carly saw him. Sonny found Anthony in the chapel and demanded an explanation for shooting the innocent Kate. Anthony said all women are guilty of something. Then Jason burst in and held his gun on Sonny, reminding him that he needs Anthony alive, because Spinelli doesn't deserve to go to jail. A furious Sonny fired a shot in frustration, then knocked out Anthony — as a favor to Jason.
In the command post, Jax warned Agent Rayner that he has access to enough media to cause a scandal. If Rayner doesn't get Carly out in one hour, Jax is going in. In the OR, Spinelli insisted to Winifred that Equinox must be stopped because manufacturing bioweapons is immoral. He begged her to disobey her orders. She pointed out that stealing the spheres would make Spinelli an enemy of the state and asked him to trust her. The rest of FBI team secured the spheres in a state-of-the-art case. Spinelli suddenly realized that a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen was venting into the room. He tried to warn an agent, but it was too late — an electrical probe fell on a metal tray, striking a spark — Spinelli pushed Winifred toward the exit just as the room exploded in a fireball.
