GH Week of January 19, 2009
Monday
Patrick continued to recount the events. Patrick said that he had had an impulse to look at the X-Rays and that he ran for the OR and because of that he was separated with Robin and Emma. Winifred continued to brief her boss over the phone.
7 Hours Before the Operation…
Robin and Patrick were getting ready for an intimate moment, but Robin wasn't up to it. Patrick apologized for pressuring her, but Robin was hung up on the fact that she felt ugly. Robin couldn't grasp why she was so depressed. Patrick tried to reassure her and considered talking to Kelly about it. Matt knocked on the door with a housewarming gift. "Here's to new beginnings," he said. Matt gave them his gift. As Matt looked around, Maxie invited herself in. "What is HE doing here?" she groaned. The two sparred and Maxie left in a huff. "She likes me," Matt said with a grin. Robin and Patrick coached Matt on how to get Maxie. After Matt left for work, Robin laughed about how similar he and Matt were. Robin didn't think it was a good idea for Matt to date Maxie. Patrick said that Matt and Maxie reminded him of his relationship with Robin. The two enjoyed their time together. Patrick recalled the day he knew he loved Robin: the night that he sliced his finger and was exposed to AIDS and Robin comforted him.
Johnny walked into Jake's and asked Coleman for a job. Coleman couldn't help him but suggested an illegal job. Johnny didn't want to take any risks. Coleman understood and offered Johnny some money to fill in for the janitor. Spinelli walked in and promptly asked why the Mob Prince was mopping floors. Johnny was horrified. Spinelli tried to make Johnny feel better and offered Johnny some of his money. Johnny refused to even borrow mob money, saying that it would be no different than going back to his father. Spinelli asked Johnny if he was seriously considering going back to his family. Johnny assured Spinelli he wasn't interested in the mob. Maxie walked in and found Johnny working, but promised not to tell Lulu about his lie. Later, Johnny mentioned to Spinelli that there were things in his past that Lulu would never forgive him for.
Carly and Lulu met at Crimson. Lulu asked Carly what she should do about Johnny's lying about getting a job. Carly didn't know what to say when Lulu asked Carly to give him a job. Lulu was frustrated when Carly wouldn't help her, but Carly explained that she didn't want Johnny to feel manipulated. Carly told Lulu that if Johnny felt he had something to prove, then let him prove it. Maxie showed up to work and almost spilled about Johnny's new job.
Kate and Jax ran into each other at Metro Court. Kate asked Jax what kind of dealings Jerry had with Claudia. Jax wasn't sure but knew it was shady. Kate wasn't happy to hear that Jax and Carly were stalling the divorce. After expressing her disappointment she walked off. Olivia approached him and delivered Jax some good news about the Plaza rooms in the hotel. Nikolas arrived and told Jax and Olivia that the Plaza rooms weren't going to be ready after all. Olivia tried to explain that the rooms had been inspected, but Nikolas refused to open the wing until he got his own inspection. Nikolas made his intentions clear: give him Spoon Island back or else. A beautiful woman resembling Emily watched on. Jax and Nikolas started arguing about everything and anything, including Courtney. When Nikolas left, Olivia handed Jax Nikolas' phone — she swiped it from his pocket. Olivia started making phone calls to get the Plaza rooms approved but Nikolas walked in.
Sam was horrified that Jason was considering taking Agent Rayner's deal and told Jason she wanted to help. Jason told her to stay out of it. After Sam left, Ric arrived to deliver a message from Anthony and his threat about retaliation. Carly arrived just as Jason threw Ric out. Carly pleaded with Jason to come to the benefit. Jason asked Carly if she was throwing the benefit because she thought it would bring Michael back.
Sam met up with Ric at Metro Court. Sam told Ric that she wanted to work for Anthony just as Anthony wheeled into the hotel.
Tuesday
All soaps are preempted today, January 20, for coverage of the Presidential Inauguration. Recaps will resume tomorrow.
Wednesday
POST-CRISIS
Patrick paced as he tried to explain to Agent Rayner how he'd realized something was wrong with Earl Bragg. Rayner claimed Earl was Equinox's problem and that the FBI was just cleaning up the "mess." Elsewhere, Winifred noted that Sonny and Carly were known to be at GH but Claudia was still unaccounted for.
PRE-CRISIS
Claudia watched another one of Jerry's clues and was searching the living room as Sonny arrived. Claudia deflected, noting Sonny'd have to make a "monumental concession" like "getting rid of Jason" to make things up to Anthony. Sonny didn't see that as an option. At the Metro Court, Sam asked Anthony for work while Ric made snarky comments. When Johnny sauntered in, more snark ensued and Anthony warned Johnny that he was endangering Lulu. At the penthouse, Jason and Carly had a heart to heart about Michael's condition. Carly said Jason was off the hook for the benefit tonight. Talk then turned to the Jason/Sonny rift and Carly working with Sonny for Michael. Carly hugged Jason and left. Jason instantly called to make an appointment with Patrick. Anthony laid out his plans to a wary Ric. Ric pointed out Johnny wouldn't like his methods to get h m back in the family. "Don't question me. Just do it!" Mad Anthony growled as Claudia appeared. Claudia counseled Ric on how to deal with her dad. Back at Sonny's, Johnny warned him about crossing Anthony and about his destructive streak getting him killed. Later at Casa Corinthos, Ric and Claudia got busy. Meanwhile, Sam told Jason she was making headway with Anthony and Carly visited Sonny to discuss Jason attending Michael's benefit. Couldn't they put their differences aside for tonight? Sonny didn't want Carly stuck in between them. He and Jason would work things out or they wouldn't, but it had nothing to do with Michael. As Sonny went upstairs, Carly angsted alone and stumbled on one of Jerry's DVDs. Ric and Claudia were still going to town, so Sonny heard the creak of bedsprings from the hallway.
When Lulu wondered why Spinelli was at Jake's, Maxie claimed he was getting love advice from Coleman. Maxie then asked if Lulu was really in love with Johnny. Lulu got all huffy and defensive, especially when Maxie mentioned her parents' "legendary" love. "You need to get a life," Lulu observed, calling her out on her relationship with Spin. Later, Johnny came by Crimson and bantered with Maxie, who suggested he bone up on Luke and Laura's history to get a glimpse into his and Lulu's future. After Johnny left, Maxie lied to Lulu that he hadn't made contact while she was out.
Harried Patrick came into GH, earning some ribbing from Liz about letting little bro Matt pick up his slack. "I'm here to do my job," he said. Liz mentioned she's worried about Robin. Patrick insisted she's doing better. After the chat, Lucky walked off the elevator and Liz beamed. Lucky had four tickets to Disney on Ice. But what about the impending blizzard? Lucky laughed that off. The banter was just like old times! Patrick left a message for Robin saying he'd see her soon and then learned Liz was skipping Disney
on Ice due to the blizzard and work. Epiphany noticed Leyla grinning over a guy, and then Matt noted Patrick sounded a little "pompous." Moments later, a black-clad girl who looked a LOT like Emily Quartermaine ran into a flirtatious Matt. "Rebecca Shaw," she introduced, revealing she's an X-ray tech looking for Administration. Matt raved about the beautiful girl ("almost as beautiful as Elizabeth") to Liz and Patrick. Nearby, Leyla revealed to Epiphany that she was secretly engaged to a nice Iranian boy like her mother always wanted.
Thursday
Patrick got testy with agent Rayner when recounting how he warned Epiphany to stop the surgery on Earl Bragg.
5 hours before surgery...
Max stopped Sonny from bursting in on Ric and Claudia. Ric used the reprieve to ask what she wants out of him. She asked about her father’s true agenda. Ric revealed that Anthony is not paralyzed, and he shot Kate. Downstairs, Sonny found Carly rooting through some DVDs, then they literally discussed the weather: he hated snow for bringing up bad childhood memories, while her associations were positive. She asked if he wanted to add anyone to the gala guest list — like, say, his wife? He suggested she invite Robin. Upstairs, Ric explained Anthony’s plot to send Sonny after the Russians and then make him kill Jason before Anthony would cap Sonny himself.
Nikolas visited Robin with a house-warming gift (a vase), and she turned to the subject to Emily’s birthday. He confessed she’s been on his mind constantly. She noted that Jason was the perfect transitional relationship after Stone died, and perhaps Nadine could serve the same purpose for him. She let slip that she feels nowhere near the natural mother she always imagined she would be. He pointed out it was normal for new parents to feel overwhelmed. He fell down on the job, too, but Emily was great with Spencer. (Yay, he remembered he has a son!) Robin reminded him that she arranged for Emily to first start spending time with him all those years ago. After he left, Carly arrived to invite Robin to the benefit. Emma started crying, and when Carly offered to wait while Robin tended to her, Robin took offense that Carly, "of all people," was criticizing her maternal skills. So they took the opportunity to snipe at each other.
At the penthouse, Jason acknowledged that Sam could help uncover information to keep Spinelli out of jail — as long as Anthony doesn’t kill her first. Spinelli burst in, demanding to help, but Jason left him to talk with Sam. After some awkward smalltalk, Sam implied that Jason cut a deal to get Spinelli released, but didn’t confirm it. At GH, Rebecca got directions to a coffeehouse from Matt. Then Jason caught up with Patrick to suggest Carly should not run the fund-raiser — and Patrick should stop giving her hope that Michael will recover. Patrick refused to discourage her. When he asked about Robin, Jason admitted she seemed tense. Later, while a happy, glowing Leyla flirted with her guy on the phone, Patrick asked Elizabeth if Jason is an "expert" on Robin, because of what he said about her. Nikolas arrived to mention that he visited Robin. While they talked, the elevator doors opened to reveal Rebecca. Nobody noticed her standing there. Jason returned to the penthouse and freaked to find Spinelli hacking the FBI mainframe in a bid to uncover Jason’s secret deal. Elsewhere, Earl Bragg called someone and asked to look at the Equinox "cargo." At that same moment, Agent Rayner was on his phone, asking about the "cargo" in a hijacked Equinox truck that was "worse than dynamite." He was interrupted by Spinelli, who asked to know what Rayner freed him when he was facing life in prison and "the death penalty is not entirely out of the question."
Later, Sonny found Claudia in an extraordinarily jumpy mood, and demanded to know why. She suggested she may need protection from her father. He pointed out that they did not agree to lay down their lives for each other. Claudia noted that Anthony was...not happy with Sonny.
Friday
Patrick told Agent Rayner that Earl Bragg was brought in after a traffic accident with a fractured leg and internal bleeding. Matt operated on him so Patrick could go home. Meanwhile, Winifred reported on Carly's benefit.
4 hours before surgery — 3 p.m.
Carly invited Robin to the benefit, but she was suspicious of Carly's motives. When Carly threatened to go pick up the screaming Emma, Robin rolled out the entire bassinet rather than pick up the baby. Carly then picked Emma up, instantly silencing her. As Robin watched, looking hurt, Carly claimed to envy Robin for having a daughter to shop and do girly things with. Robin agreed to attend the gala. Robin asked if Carly felt guilty for her post-partum depression after Michael was born. Carly said she now knows it is a medical condition, and Jason helped her through it. Later, Robin tried to make a spa appointment to "get beautiful," but none was available in time. When Carly got to GH, she told Patrick that Robin wants to attend the benefit, but, "There's something seriously wrong with Robin." After recounting her visit, she suggested, "Maybe she has post-partum depression." Patrick countered that his wife is under lots of stress. Carly suggested Robin doesn't want to admit she's suffering from what Carly had. Back at the house, Robin accidentally awoke Emma, then admitted to her, "I don't know how to comfort you. I think I'm a bad mom."
Spinelli asked Agent Rayner if Jason entered into an "unholy alliance" with the feds, but Rayner refused to confirm or deny. The Jackal offered his cyber services in exchange for freeing Stone Cold from any deal, but Rayner threw him out. Later, Maxie told an inconsolable Spinelli that he's the leverage the FBI is using against Jason. At GH, Matt ran into Rebecca in the elevator. She told him she applied for an X-ray tech job. After flirting, Matt got off the elevator, and Nikolas just missed getting on. Later, at the Quartermaine mansion, Edward suggested to Tracy that they donate to Michael's fund, but Tracy balked at giving cash to Sonny and Carly. Monica insisted it was going to injured children, and added that Carly is sorry for keeping Michael away from the Q's. Nikolas arrived to pay his respects to Monica on Emily's birthday.
At Metro Court, Kate overheard Olivia talking about picking up a check for the benefit from Sonny's. Kate gave her a watch to deliver to Sonny; it was her wedding gift to him. Meanwhile, Claudia suggested that Sonny take out Jason to prove Anthony should back down. Sonny insisted he married her in good faith, but she has treated him badly: She's practically sleeping with Ric under his nose; rooting through his stuff; and keeping secrets. She called him paranoid. She stalked out, vowing not to become "collateral damage." Then Olivia arrived with news of her new job. Sonny wondered what Jax was up to by hiring her — and why she's working for a kind of self-entitled rich man she used to hate back in the day. He warned her not to trust Jax. Olivia gave Sonny Kate's gift. "That's nice," he said. Liv said it's not an invitation, and Sonny asked why she doesn't want it to be. Olivia praised his "beautiful soul" but noted he's a "ruthless survivor" who is "ambitious for power," so he should let Kate remain free of him. Meanwhile, Claudia went to Metro Court, where Anthony was chatting up Kate. Claudia sat him down and voiced her "theory" that maybe he really can walk — and maybe he shot Kate. He wondered how she could be stupid enough to tell him her suspicions. Sonny returned the watch to Kate at MC personally. He insisted he never meant to hurt her, but she pointed out she almost died. Twice. Sonny vowed to find whoever shot her and make that person pay.
