General Hospital Recaps

GH Week of March 2, 2009

Monday

Anthony told Sonny he wired an explosive to Claudia to cover his escape. Which he almost accomplished; Anthony made it to his car, but Jason got the drop on him. Then Sonny called Jason to ask how to defuse the bomb. With time running out, Sonny asked Claudia her favorite color: black. He snipped the black wire and stopped the countdown with seconds to go. Claudia and Sonny joined Jason — where Anthony pointed out "[Sonny] doesn't know." Know what? Sonny asked. Meanwhile, at PCPD, Spinelli was brought in to see Agent Rayner, who said Jason's deal wasn't honored. Maxie burst into the interrogation room, and Rayner threatened to jail her for obstruction of justice. Then Rayner gave her a moment with Spinelli. Rayner went to Johnny and asked for help finding Anthony, but Johnny pleaded ignorance. Just then, Jason phoned with details where to find Anthony: at 1965 Hawthorne Drive. Later, when Anthony was brought in, he insisted on talking to Johnny, and Rayner allowed it. Anthony pointed out that he didn't tell Sonny that Claudia got Michael shot, because Sonny would kill her, and Johnny would probably get himself killed trying to protect her. However, "the truth demands to be heard," and Sonny will eventually learn Claudia's secret — and kill her. An overjoyed Maxie told Spinelli: "You are my essential person," and they walked out together.

Nikolas took Alexis to Kelly's, where Rebecca was waitressing. Alexis suggested that Nik's persistent attentions could be actionable as harassment, but Rebecca insisted she is not considering legal action. Alexis left to get a martini. Nik insisted on helping Rebecca do her job, but only succeeded in spilled a tray of food. He insisted on mopping it up — but had no idea how to do it, so he made a mess and slipped in the water. She started laughing and fell, too. Meanwhile, Lucky visited Elizabeth to tell her that Cameron thinks they all will be living together when she gets discharged. She acknowledged that his being at her bedside during the crisis meant a lot, and she will be there for him. He told her that he broke up with Sam, and suggested they each need to figure out who they are on their own. "We'll always love each other," they agreed.

At Metro Court, Carly and Jax admitted they are glad to be reconciled, and smooched. Olivia arrived with a note to call Berlin. Carly related how they are on alert to protect Morgan because of something to do with Sonny. Olivia said that if her kid was in danger, she would change her name and leave town (wink, wink). She noted Sonny was always like that, and always drove Liv nuts with his lifestyle. Carly suggested he still has the same effect on her. Liv said Carly having Sonny's children is a bond that doesn't go away. Carly pointed out there's something going on between Sonny and Claudia. Liv seemed surprised that Sonny entered a loveless marriage, but Carly suggested he wanted power. Then Jason called to tell Carly it was over, and Anthony was arrested. Carly noted it's "us time."

Rayner told Jason he let Spinelli go, but..."Now we want Sonny. And you're gonna give him to us." Sonny and Claudia returned home and shared a couple of vodkas. When she asked why he risked himself for her, he said he couldn't' leave his wife to die. "I don't know what to feel," he admitted. She said she's scared of her feelings. When Sonny asked if she always runs away from scary feelings, she moved in and kissed him.

Tuesday

Rebecca brought a nearly naked Nikolas his cleaned clothes — and got an eyeful as he got dressed in her "cozy" room above Kelly's. He offered to comp her a room at Metro Court, but she reminded him that she doesn't need — or want — his help. Then she suggested preparing dinner for him downstairs. She was surprised to learn that he is an actual prince. Alexis arrived and privately told Nik that she researched Rebecca and determined that she wasn't adopted, and is not related to Emily in any way.

Sam arrived at the penthouse for a party Spinelli planned to thank Jason for rescuing him from the feds. Jason was furious because the feds aren't letting them off the hook: Rayner wants Sonny. Jason refused to betray Sonny or sacrifice Spinelli, so he mulled sneaking Spinelli out of the country. Then Spinelli and Maxie arrived to get the party started. Spinelli sang Stone Cold's praises, then invited Sam to open a private investigation firm with him. Maxie toasted Jason, then they produced a chocolate cake that they got from Cook at the Quartermaine mansion. Jason cut off the party so he could talk to Spinelli alone. He said, "the situation with the feds is out of control," but couldn't bring himself to reveal that the Jackal is once again mere leverage. Later, however, Spinelli overheard Jason talking with Sam, and realized Jason is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Sonny invited Claudia up to his room. After making sure he wanted to be with her, they tumbled into bed. Afterward, she suggested they pretend this was their first time and forget about that bar encounter last year. He assured her that Anthony cannot hurt her, and wondered what Anthony meant when he claimed there was something Sonny didn't know. They were interrupted but the sound of Johnny's voice downstairs. She greeted him, and he revealed that their father was just carted off to jail, so her "scam marriage" is over. Claudia said she's staying put. Sonny left the siblings to bicker — er, talk. Johnny suggested Sonny will kill Claudia when he finds out about Michael's shooting. Claudia noted she is growing closer to her husband. He pointed out she's trusting her life to those feelings. She recapped about Anthony and the bomb and Sonny saving her. "I like being Mrs. Sonny Corinthos," she sniffed. He suggested she's deluding herself — and that will kill her.

While Patrick tended to Emma, Robin set off to run errands. Patrick assured Emma that her mommy loves her and is getting better. Then Sonny arrived, hoping to get a "glimpse" of Robin rocking Emma. "Not much chance of that," Patrick sighed. Suddenly he got a call about a patient needing emergency surgery, and ended up leaving Emma with Sonny. Sonny told the infant he got "too close" to his wife, and he dropped by to see the baby was a reminder of what's important in life. He recalled having a wife and two sons, then got emotional talking about how Michael's life was destroyed. When Robin returned, Sonny laughed about Patrick leaving the kid with a known criminal. Robin declined to hold Emma while insisting she's fine. She changed the subject to suggest that he end his marriage to "that awful woman." Sonny insisted it's his choice to stay married — and noted that Kate doesn't deserve the chaos of his life. He considers himself opened up to "what I deserve." He said Claudia knows the business and has no expectations of him. Robin said, "I can almost guarantee that you're not going to be happy with Claudia." Later, Sonny returned home, where Claudia told him how Johnny encouraged her to leave him. He said Robin has no faith in them, either. They mulled what to do, then decided: "We stay [together] and try."

Wednesday

At Kelly's, Nikolas assured Nadine that GH would be rebuilt in no time, and pointed out that their waitress, Rebecca, is not actually related to Emily. Nadine couldn't help noticing Nik's easy rapport with Rebecca — and also that he's still not over Emily. He apologized for leading Nadine to believe he was ready for a relationship. "There's no future for us," Nadine sighed. "Best of luck to you," she added, and left. She went to work at Mercy, where Matt signed himself out as a patient. When she suddenly started sobbing, he offered her a tissue.

Lulu entered The Haunted Star just as Ethan dipped his hand in the till (again). He claimed to be an employee, but Lulu wanted to call Lucky. Luke arrived and defused the situation by recapping his first encounter with Ethan. Then Tracy walked in, giving Ethan a chance to charm her again. Tracy praised Lulu for saving her at the hospital, then dragged Luke out, leaving Lulu to ask what kind of scam Ethan is running on her father. At the Quartermaine mansion, Edward presented Rebecca and informed Monica and Luke that he has invited her to move in. "That is a recipe for disaster," Tracy moaned. Monica was in favor, and Luke offered to help Rebecca fleece the Q's, but Rebecca insisted on staying at Kelly's. Tracy pointed out just how suspicious it was for a look-alike to show up and present herself to the grieving family. Nik arrived and defended Rebecca.

Robin visited Crimson to take Maxie to lunch. When Maxie asked about Emma, Robin said she needed a break from "feeling pressured and judged." She noted Patrick is watching her, and admitted there might be a grain of truth in his fears. Robin was looking forward to getting a nanny and getting back to work. Meanwhile, at Mercy, Patrick told Elizabeth she's ready to go home, and told her how Robin seems to want to be anywhere but with her kid. Liz suggested Robin was just feeling the pressure, and admitted she sometimes doubted herself in her early days of motherhood. Then Lucky brought Cam and Jake to visit, and the happy family left to eat ice cream, cake and pizza! Back at the Star, Ethan dipped into the till again — just as Robin arrived. He poured her a "strawberry stripper" (using his own recipe of strawberry liqueur and Schnapps). She noted that she's a doctor waiting for GH to be rebuilt, and she's married to a doctor at GH — but doesn't have kids!

At the penthouse, Jason caught Spinelli having a "private moment" online: He was contemplating changing his appearance with facial hair. Jason wanted to talk, but Spinelli ran out. Meanwhile, Winifred met Sam outside Kelly's and told her about Rayner wanting Sonny. Later, Spinelli went to the waterfront and got fake travel documents — while Winifred observed. Sam went to Jason and suggested Winifred might be able to bury the FBI's evidence, but Jason was sternly against involving another innocent. Spinelli next went to visit Maxie at work. She suggested he take her to a movie and dinner that night. He stared at her longingly as she babbled. "You're stuck with me, Spinelli — forever and ever," she smiled. Then he planted a deep kiss on her, and noted, "You'll always be in my heat." When she got a call from Federico Spinelli looked at her one last time, then left. Later, Lulu arrived and told Maxie about the "totally fake" Ethan, but Maxie worried that Spinelli might still be in trouble. Good guess. At the penthouse, Spinelli wrote Jason a note. Stone Cold came home and read the news: In order to spare Jason from having to decide betraying Sonny and sending Spinelli to prison, "the Jackal has departed — solo." Spinelli boarded a plane...and saw Winifred seated near him.

Thursday

As the Quartermaine clan bickered, Rebecca beat a hasty retreat, followed by Nikolas. At the waterfront, she ordered him to back off, and he reluctantly agreed. At Mercy, Matt stopped Patrick from chewing out a nurse. Patrick admitted he's mad at Robin, who doesn't seem interested in the baby she wanted so badly. He sees classic signs of post-partum depression, but she won't even discuss it. Matt suggested they see a professional: Dr. Lauren Brown — who also treats post-partum daddies. Robin meanwhile, was at The Haunted Star, flirting with Ethan, who called her "the nurturing type." She said she doubted that, and noted she's very focused on her work. She told him her parents are spies — the "International Mom and Dad of Mystery." He mumbled something about being put up for adoption and running away himself. He wondered why anyone would have a child they didn't want. Robin got upset and rushed out, forgetting her wallet. Ethan spotted it, but Luke interrupted him to complain about the scene with Nikolas and Rebecca at the Q's. Luke noted he used to hate and resent Nik, but now feels like he should offer advice to the ex-wife's kid. Lulu arrived and scolded Ethan for getting her father drunk. Luke acknowledged that Ethan is a grifter, but then "realized" that Lulu came by to "check out" the Aussie and withdrew. Lulu insisted she didn't come to see Ethan. Then she spotted the wallet and accused him of stealing it. She didn't buy his story of Robin visiting the casino in the middle of the day — and drinking! And Robin does have a kid, so he must be lying. Luke found Nik on the docks, and advised him it doesn't matter who Rebecca is, it just matters who she isn't. She may have Emily's eyes, but she doesn't have Em's heart or soul. Nik claimed his heart "woke up" when he first saw Rebecca. For her part, Rebecca returned to the Q manse to apologize to Monica for being rude and admit she overreacted to Nikolas. Monica encouraged her to give Nik a chance. Robin then went to the waterfront and recalled giving birth, and then struggling with Emma's constant crying. She called Judy to check on Emma, and asked the nanny to stay for the rest of the afternoon.

At Metro Court, Jax found Carly upset by the latest status report on Michael. "His body won't let go — and neither will I," she sobbed. Jax offered to accompany her on her next visit. She briefly wondered if she should stop torturing herself by visiting him, but figured she wouldn't miss him any less. Later, in his study, Sonny ordered Max to set up a meeting to announce to the troops that he's back in charge. Max mentioned that the troops are suspicious after Sonny turned his back on them and went to the Zaccharas. And, besides, they liked working for Jason. Carly arrived to tell Sonny (and Max) that she learned of an experimental procedure that might help Michael — and both parents have to sign off on a test to see if he's a candidate for the treatment. She noted that even if he get it, the procedure may not work. She said it involves minor surgery to stimulate his brain with electric pulses. Sonny was horrified, but she insisted it is more advanced than electroshock therapy. When she admitted that she wanted hope — even false hope — Sonny authorized her to do it. "There's a little empty place inside me where Michael used to be," he noted. Later, Sonny went to Mercy and told Robin about the test. Patrick eavesdropped as she told Sonny she's back on the job. Meanwhile, Claudia was visiting Michael at the long-term care facility. A doctor noted that she comes every week, like clockwork. "I'm so sorry," she sobbed. "I ordered the hit that put you here." Unknown to her, Carly was right outside the door!

Friday

Carly was poised to walk in on Claudia in Michael's room, but a doctor distracted her, allowing Claudia time to flee. When Carly did enter, she noticed a chair had been moved. Then Jax appeared and said he had already been in the room. Jax admitted he was wrong to push Carly away after Michael was shot, but he wants to support her from now on. They embraced. At Mercy, Robin told Sonny she's going back to work full-time. When Sonny inquired about Robin consulting on Michael's case, Patrick insisted Robin is too busy. She got angry, but Patrick promised to look into the testing for Sonny. After Sonny left, Patrick demanded that Robin think about Emma. Robin pointed out that she's always loved Michael, and wondered why he isn't offering to pack in his career and care for Emma 24/7. He suggested they find a balance — and she seek professional help. She told him to talk to shrink — to get over himself! Later, Maxie visited Robin at home. Robin complained about Patrick's chauvinist attitudes, but also sounded like she was belittling stay-at-home moms. Maxie praised Robin's maternal skills (but neglected to mention Robin's escapade in the snow) and theorized that Patrick, as a man, cannot grasp maternal feelings.

Spinelli and Winnifred worked their laptops in a diner in Los Angeles, preparing to embark on a life as freelance cyber crusaders, "smiting injustice" — starting in Singapore. Back in Port Charles, a near-frantic Jason showed Sam Spinelli's note and bemoaned how much he depends on Spinelli for all his cyberneeds. Sam suggested the Jackal couldn't get far. Jason summoned Sonny — who worried that Spinelli had information that could destroy them both. He suggested Jason should be happy Spinelli is getting out of the mob, and pointed out that dragging Spinelli back ties him to the mob forever. Back in L.A., Winnifred had an Indiana Jones-themed fantasy about Spinelli. Then Ralph, the diner owner, happened to mention that his bank cut off credit, forcing him to close. Spinelli and Winnie resolved to help — while a mysterious woman watched. Spinelli introduced himself as "Hudson Rorshach" and Winnie as "Diana Princeton," and they began hacking. In Port Charles, Maxie arrived at the penthouse for her date, but the joint was deserted. She found Spinelli's note and was horrified. Meanwhile, Jason met Sam at the docks; she learned Spinelli went to Los Angeles and wanted to follow, but Jason said he should let Spinelli make his own choices. In L.A., the bank agreed to reset Ralph's credit. Winnie wanted to celebrate their successful hack with a kiss, but Spinelli was oblivious.

On the Port Charles waterfront, Rebecca listened as Nikolas told Like that he is disappointed that she is not related to Emily. Luke insisted that even if Emily rose from the grave, she couldn't fill the emotional void left by her death, because, "You cannot recover the past." When Luke left, Nik spotted Rebecca, who glared at him and fled. On The Haunted Star, Lulu insisted that Ethan was lying about Robin. Then Luke returned and told her to avoid Ethan if she hates him so much. Later, Rebecca visited the Star to chat with Luke about Nik. As Nik eavesdropped, Luke told Rebecca to avoid Nikolas. Lulu, meanwhile, returned the wallet to Robin, who had no idea it was gone. When she asked where Lulu got it, Lulu recounted Ethan's "lies" about Robin visiting the Star and drinking during the day — and claiming she did not to have any kids. At that moment, Patrick walked in and glared.

Sonny returned home to update her about Michael. When he wondered if Michael could sense what's happening to him, Claudia insisted Michael was fine. A suddenly suspicious Sonny demanded to know how she knew that...
