General Hospital Recaps
GH Week of March 30, 2009
Monday
At Mercy Hospital, Rebecca explained to Nik that she's been asked to have a biopsy and it will take two weeks to schedule the procedure. Seeing her concern, Nikolas barked at a doctor and demanded that Rebecca's appointment be moved up. The doctor insisted that his staff cannot be bought. Nik apologized and cited Rebecca's anxiety. The doctor said he'd see what he could do. Rebecca thanked Nikolas and, in return, he said that she didn't
have to go through this alone. Nik invited Rebecca back to Wyndmere for tea. "Just as weird and gothic as I remembered," Rebecca noted upon entering. She then asked Nik to tell her everything he went through with Emily's breast cancer scare. A cold Rebecca asked Nik to put his arms around her.
At the penthouse, Jason caught Spinelli faking an illness so Maxie would take care of him. Maxie overheard the Jackal's confession that the ruse was his way to keep Maxie from going out with Johnny. Maxie blamed Jason for setting a bad example for Spinelli when it comes to relationships. She insisted that her evening was strictly business for Crimson and left.
Sonny knocked on Claudia's bedroom door, just after Ric collapsed from her poisoning his drink. She hid Ric under the bed and opened the door for Sonny. "What the hell's going on in here?" Sonny questioned. He was about to pour himself a drink and settle in for a quickie but Claudia explained that a girl needs a little notice and playfully shoved him out the door.
At Lulu's apartment, Johnny told Lulu that he's going to another club opening with Maxie but Lulu wanted to talk about their relationship. She asked for honesty and Johnny stated that he returned to the family because Claudia needed him. However, when Lulu asked Johnny what secret he was keeping for Claudia, he refused to spill. Maxie burst in and insisted they leave for the club opening. In the limo, Claudia called Johnny and asked that he come over right away — or else she'd be dead.
At Sonny's, Claudia was upset that Johnny showed up with Maxie. He insisted that Maxie could be trusted. Claudia stated that Ric passed out from booze and pills after they had sex and that she needed Johnny to get Ric out of the house before Sonny found him. With Maxie along to help — and add color commentary — the duo dragged Ric's drugged body out of the house and into the limo. They planned to drop him at Mercy on their way to the airport. Meanwhile, Claudia went into the drawing room and began to seduce Sonny to keep him occupied. Sonny suspected Claudia was trying too hard. Claudia feigned being insulted and asked Sonny to just meet her halfway. "I can do halfway," Sonny replied. They kissed, until Jason interrupted. Sonny asked Claudia for some privacy. Then, Jason updated Sonny on the Rayner situation and that without the evidence against Spinelli, he's a free geek, er, man. When Sonny suggested that Jason cut Spinelli loose, Jason said the same thing could be said about him and Claudia.
Spinelli showed up at Lulu's so they could wait together for their
significant others to return. He confessed his earlier fib and cited the statistics for romance in the workplace. Just then, Lulu got a call and learned that Johnny and Maxie never made it to the club opening. In the limo, a nervous Maxie wondered why Ric would drink while taking pills and asked Johnny what the real story was. Maxie realized Johnny was putting himself at risk the same way Georgie used to do for her. In Georgie's name, Maxie agreed to help Johnny. Together, they ran Ric into the E.R., then ducked out unseen. Later, back at the apartment, Maxie raved to Lulu and Spinelli about the club opening but Lulu smiled and said she knew they never made it and demanded to know where they were.
Carly and Jax visited Michael, where they shared their renewed happiness with him. After they left, Carly returned to turn off the light and saw Michael's fingers move.... Ric woke up in the hospital, where Claudia hovered over him. Ric scowled that he knows Claudia tried to kill him and now, she's going to have to pay.
Tuesday
At Wyndemere, Rebecca reclined on top of Nikolas and thanked him for taking care of her. And then she kissed him. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that," she apologized, pointing out how this must dredge up memories of Emily and her battle with cancer. "I genuinely like you," he confessed. Meanwhile, Alexis went to the deserted Haunted Star and met Ethan. He chatted her up and poured a martini. Luke arrived and informed Ethan he was serving the DA. Luke asked her to check her purse; Ethan pretended to find her wallet on the floor. Luke sent Ethan packing, and reveled in the fact that he has a con man protégé at last. Luke sent Ethan to return Lulu's black scarf. Alexis confided that Nikolas is obsessed with Rebecca — and Alexis doesn't trust the newbie. Neither does Luke. "We know she's not Emily, right?" she asked. She feared Nik is turning into a nutcase like Stefan and Stavros.
At the long-term care facility, Carly called for Jax to get a doctor after Michael move his hand. Meanwhile, Jason summoned Sam to the penthouse to thank her for helping get Spinelli off the hook. And to suggest that Sam partner with him in a PI business. Jason contributed Spinelli's share of he startup costs in cash. Sam balked, but Jason sang Spinelli's praises as skilled and highly motivated. He cautioned her not to give Spinelli a gun, or let him drive, or take him on stakeouts. Carly called Jason to tell him the good news even as Patrick arrived to examine the boy. And while Carly suggested that Michael was coming back, Patrick told her she saw "an involuntary reflex or muscle spasm." Carly insisted this is different, and pointed out Patrick may be distracted by Robin's troubles. Carly asked for a second opinion. Jax was adamant that he believes her, and wants to pursue all avenues. Back in Port Charles, Jason told Sam "I would give anything for Michael to come out of this," but he was wary. Sam said Carly needs his support. Jason pointed out that doctors say Michael won't recover. But he wants to hope. Later, Carly arrived at the penthouse to vent about Michael, and revealed she fired Patrick because he is vested in being right about his prognosis. Carly wondered if Michael actually woke up for a second, and said Jax summoned Dr. Ingrid Hensen to consult. Jason suggested Carly may just be seeing what she wants to see. He believes Michael moved, but maybe it's not significant. "I can believe enough for the both of us," she vowed. In his office, Jax played Jerry's DVD, then destroyed it.
Lulu accused Maxie and Johnny of skipping the party. Since they could not reveal they were actually moving Ric's body, Maxie made up a story about being herded into the VIP. "You are such a bad liar," Lulu said. "Nothing happened," Maxie promised. Johnny needed to check on some things and left, soon followed by Spinelli. Lulu challenged Maxie to admit she's making a play for Johnny, but Maxie walked away. Spinelli confronted Johnny on the docks, and vowed not to give up his "beloved" without a fight. In fact, he challenged Johnny to fisticuffs. Meanwhile, Ethan arrived at the apartment to deliver the scarf, and Maxie greeted him her undies. When Lulu came out in her jammies, Maxie realized that Ethan is the "deadbeat thief" Lulu mentioned. Maxie flirted with him shamelessly, prompting Lulu to usher him out. Maxie accused Lulu of being hot for him. Maxie then called Johnny, and Lulu overheard her tell him that Lulu will never find out "what really happened."
Later, Nik escorted Rebecca home. She thanked him for distracting her from the biopsy. He assured her she isn't alone: "I'll help you get through this." Still later, Alexis appeared at Wyndemere to express concern about his stalker-like behavior. He revealed Rebecca may have breast cancer. Alexis advised him not to get involved with this stranger. "I've grown fond of her; I like her," he said. "I will see her through this." In her room, Rebecca got a mysterious phone cal, and said, "I don't think I can go through with this after all."
Wednesday
At Metro Court, Carly told Sonny about Michael moving his hand, and while Kate listened, made her case that Michael is waking up. When Kate asked about it, Sonny filled her in. Then he said he trusts Carly's instincts. Meanwhile, Jax ordered Olivia to clear his schedule so he could concentrate on Michael. Olivia wondered if he felt guilty about Jerry playing a part in the shooting? He admitted feeling guilty for bringing Jerry to town and covering for him. Olivia agreed to keep his secret, noting, "Keeping a secret isn't wrong if it protects the people that you love." Later, Jax told Carly that Dr. Hensen is on the way. Carly believed Michael could hear everything, but Jax hoped he couldn't, because then he'd know how he got in that condition.
When Kate arrived at Crimson, Lulu pitched Ethan as an alternative to Johnny for the PR dates. Kate quickly rejected him and walked away. After Johnny and Ethan left, Maxie realized all the petty cash was gone! At The Haunted Star, Luke insisted on his cut from Ethan's score. Lulu quickly arrived, demanding the cash be returned, but Luke pointed out that Lulu assumed the risk by inviting known grifter Ethan to her office. Lulu resolved to win the money at poker.
Claudia found Ric in Sonny's study, playing Jerry's DVD loudly. Ric was confident that Sonny would kill Claudia in revenge. She suggested that Johnny would kill Ric for provoking Sonny into killing her. Switching gears, she offered to get him evidence against Sonny and Jason to feed to the feds. Claudia then summoned Johnny and asked him to gather evidence against Sonny and Jason. Ric walked in on them and deduced that Johnny knows what happened with Michael and was in on it from the start. He gloated about blackmailing Claudia, so Johnny slugged him.
At Mercy, Elizabeth bubbled about the impending reopening of General Hospital with its amenities, like on-site child care, but Robin was busy being snippy. Robin told Patrick she wanted to wait until after they returned to GH to start therapy, but he insisted, so she grudgingly agreed to see Dr. Brown. Robin went to the docks to procrastinate, where she ran into Sonny. She told him she couldn't understand where her life went off course and why she doesn't look forward to seeing Emma. "I don't want to feed her," she lamented. "If you need help, you need help," Sonny counseled. He knows what it's like to be self-destructive. He forced himself to attend therapy for the sake of his kids. He confided that he misses the "highs" of his bipolar disorder, but not the crashes, so that's why he takes his meds. Robin bemoaned not experiencing highs; only lows, and was horrified to learn that Patrick told him about her. Sonny reminded her that Emma needs a mother, so she should listen to her therapist. When Robin arrived at Dr. Brown's office, she was bitchy and didn't want to talk about her daughter. "I'm a horrible mother," she sighed. And she was "ready to cheat" on her husband with a stranger in Rochester. She said she wants Emma to stop crying so she can get on with her own life, and even doubted if she really wants to be a mother at all. At Mercy, Liz suggested that Patrick seek counseling, too.
Sonny ran into Olivia on the pier. He admitted making a lot of mistakes with Michael, despite his resolve to be a good father. He felt guilty about being stern with him over Kate's shooting. Now that he may get a second chance, he wants to be a better dad. He noted how much Michael is like himself. "I love him so much," he said, adding, "He truly deserved a better father." A tearful Olivia said, "You deserve to know." Sonny asked, "Deserve to know what?"
Thursday
Robin told Dr. Brown that motherhood is more difficult than she expected; she doesn't feel those maternal instincts. "I feel stretched too thin," she said. "I'm bitchy," she understated. And when it comes to Emma, "I feel nothing." She's lost interest in sex, and feels guilty about that. Robin announced that she came up with her own treatment plan of hormones and nutrition. She admitted she came in just to please her husband. Dr. Brown said she has to want to get better for herself, not her husband. Brown diagnosed her as clinically depressed. Dr. Brown gave her a prescription and recommended daily sessions. At the Mercy ER, Patrick treated Tricia, a new mother whose car mysteriously hit an overpass while she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Tox screens revealed no drugs or alcohol. When her husband arrived, he said Tricia hasn't been herself since the baby was born. Later, Patrick summoned Jason to ask what Robin told him. Jason said they spoke in confidence. Then Liz relayed word that Tricia had been diagnosed with "acute postpartum depression."
At The Haunted Star, Luke refused to loan a broke Lulu cash to stay in her poker game with Ethan. When Luke noticed his cashbox was empty, she tried to flee, but he stopped her. Lulu deflected suspicion to Ethan, and they bickered. Luke ultimately let her go — and blamed Ethan for letting Lulu rob the joint, making repayment Ethan's problem. Ethan dropped his poker winnings into the cashbox.
On the docks, Olivia praised Sonny's paternal skills and said his kids are lucky to have him. They reminisced about the old days. She admitted she didn't mind that he was a renegade, but she hated him being in the mob. Sonny recalled how she often broke up with him then cried to get him back. The last time they did that, she kissed him and then punched him in the stomach. "I don't like to get hit," he noted, so he walked away. She found him flirting with Connie, so she walked away. Sonny mused that had they made up, "I could have been the father of your son." At Metro Court, Jax told Carly that Dr. Hensen's assistant said the experimental treatment could kill Michael. Two of the 10 patients to have it died. Carly pointed out there could have been other causes, and felt she owed it to her son to try everything possible. Later, Olivia suggested to Jax that living with secrets can be a terrible burden. Jax resolved to take the secret of Jerry's complicity in Michael's shooting to his grave.
At Sonny's, Jason stood back and watched as Johnny strangled Ric. Claudia pulled her brother off Sonny's brother, then threw Ric out. Jason figured out that Ric is blackmailing her, and demanded to know what leverage he has. She said she's starting to care for her husband. Sonny arrived and asked why she telling Jason that. She admitted Ric is blackmailing her, using their past sexual relationship, but she's dealing with it. Sonny apologized for Ric dragging her into his vendetta. If Ric tries anything else, Sonny will deal with him. "I do appreciate your loyalty," he added. Later, Robin arrived to vent about her therapist. Sonny told her he came through his problem, but with help. Robin was disappointed that Dr. Brown recommended antidepressants. Sonny said he was originally afraid of showing weakness, but "medication saved my life." And it helped the people who had to live with him. Robin fumed that she didn't want to be treated in the same "generic" way as every other woman who needed help.
Claudia went to Michael's beside and told him about Ric's blackmail, and her worry that Sonny will kill her. She noted, "I never wanted kids." She hoped Michael and Sonny would forgive her some day. Carly walked in and said, "You gotta be kidding me."
Friday
A frantic Patrick demanded that Jason tell him what Robin said, but Jason stick to his word to remain silent. Later, in Tricia's room, Epiphany and Elizabeth discussed how serious postpartum depression is. Tricia awoke and refused surgery. "I want to die," she croaked. "Please, just let me." Elsewhere, Sonny told Robin she's a "control freak" who's letting her pride get in the way. "What kind of mother has to take a pill to take care of her kid?" she asked. He pointed out that one year ago, he arrogantly took Michael to the warehouse, and he will carry that guilt for the rest of his life. He doesn't want her to feel that pain. She admitted she's been "incredibly selfish," but she doesn't know how to change. She admitted she went to Rochester because she "wanted out," and cannot handle Emma. Sonny urged her to take her meds and "take your life back." Robin went to the docks and tore up her prescription. Sonny went to Kelly's and told Mike Alexis doesn't keep him updated about Kristina — and she is right to cut him off. He said Robin's troubles remind him of his own struggle with bipolar disorder.
In Michael's room in Manhattan, Claudia expressed concern for her husband's son, but a skeptical Carly promised to "blow you out of the water."Outside, Carly called Claudia "a mob princess and convenient sex" for Sonny. Claudia said Carly is right to be mad at herself over Michael's fate. Claudia traveled home and sabotaged Sonny's condoms. He arrived home and poured them drinks. He proposed a toast: "To me, never bringing another child into this world." Claudia suggested he's in a bad mood because of the anniversary, but he insisted he didn't want to pass along his screwed up genes to another generation. She said he's thinking too much, and distracted him with kisses. Then she pulled out the punctured condoms.
Jason returned to the penthouse and asked Maxie to recall everything she can about the night he killed Ian Devlin — because he may not have been working alone. Maxie noted that it didn't make her feel better to know Diego had killed Georgie; she's still dead. Maxie recounted that night — including details about what she wore — and that sparked a memory in Jason of Ian's last words: "There's more." Carly went to the warehouse where Michael was shot, and examined the hand truck that deflected the bullet into her son. She remembered the sounds of that night and started to cry. Suddenly, Jason was there to comfort her. "It's been a year," she noted, and she still doesn't understand why it happened. Jason said Michael was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. She wanted to know: What was the last thing Michael saw? His last thought? She revealed the experimental surgery could kill Michael, and asked Jason, "What do I do?" A horrified Jason refused to answer, but suggested that Michael would take the chance, rather than go on the way he his.
At Mercy, Rebecca declined to have a biopsy and left. Nikolas chased her to Kelly's, where she noted the odds are against having breast cancer, so why bother with a test? Nik urged her not to take that risk. He escorted her back to Mercy, where she insisted Nik wait with her. In the exam room, Rebecca insisted on being put under. The door was left open, so Nik came in and heard the sedated Rebecca murmur, "Nikolas... he can't find out."
Robin walked to the water's edge, then spotted a little girl, who warned her that she was in danger of falling in and suffering hypothermia. She said her name is "Emma," and her mom didn't want her. Later, a worried Patrick rushed to the pier, looking for Robin. Obscured by fog, a body floated face-down in the water...
