GH Week of March 31, 2008

Monday

As "Jackal P.I.," Spinelli tailed Sonny to a meet with Claudia at the Metro Court bar. Sonny warned Claudia to stay away from Kate — and him. Bernie called, and Sonny agreed to meet inspectors on Friday at 7 p.m. (as Claudia eavesdropped). She was skeptical of him going straight — although she was interested in Kate's magazine. Claudia kept calling Kate a stick figure, so Sonny figured she felt threatened. Johnny arrived, warning Sonny to "stay away from my sister," but Claudia called him off, explaining she set up the meeting. After Sonny left, Claudia boasted that she has information to destroy him. She and Johnny recalled painful memories of their childhood with their howling-mad father. Johnny resented the lies she told to comfort him.

At Kate's hotel room, Carly insisted that Jax force Kate to hire Lulu. When Jax asked if she even wanted the job, Lulu made her case, saying she's taken marketing classes (though it seemed clear she is more interested in jerking Maxie's chain than the job). Kate hired Lulu as "second assistant." Later, Maxie and Lulu traded barbs over everything from answering phones, the color of binders and the details of Kate's dinner. Elsewhere, Sonny visited Michael and Morgan. Sonny told Michael he had to quit school to get away from a bad situation at home, but Michael isn't like him. He encouraged Michael to be his own man. As Jax and Carly were returning, they spotted Spinelli hiding under a bench. He claimed to be looking for Lulu and fled. Inside, they found Sonny, who suggested Michael needs to learn the coffee-importing business. Later, Carly told Jax it's important that Sonny spend time with the boys. Jax also wanted to devote more time to his own business. Carly warned him away from Kate because she doesn't trust her.

On the docks, Jerry balked when Ian asked him to kill Sonny, because he didn't want his brother Jax to connect him to the murder of Carly's ex. Alexis arrived and was surprised that Jerry knows Dr. Devlin. Devlin fled, and Jerry claimed he was merely concerned about Nikolas' illness. Jerry insisted he's a romantic, but Alexis said there will be no romance — she's done with bad boys. Even as she said that they are just business partners he pulled her into a steamy kiss. "You like me almost as much as I like you," he charged.

Ric visited Anthony Zacchara at G.H., and suggested he was mentally incompetent at the time of his crimes at the Black and White Ball. In exchange for getting Anthony off, Ric said, "We're gonna destroy my father." Later, Trevor visited Anthony, who asked the lawyer to spring him, but Trevor didn't think that would happen. Elsewhere, a couple of goons dragged Ric to the docks, where Johnny questioned him about visiting Anthony. Ric said he might get Anthony released. Johnny said Anthony deserves to stay locked up, and warned Ric not to spring him.

Sonny visited Kate — but also collared Spinelli and told him to tell Jason he's fine without a babysitter and sent the Jackal packing. Sonny told Kate things are good because of the truce — and her.

Patrick visited an emotional Robin, who sobbed over a teddy bear that reminded her of her childhood. She lamented about not having any of her stuff to pass on to her baby — or "muffin," as she called it. He was going to ask her to consult on a case (as he always does), but he admitted he was also checking up on her. She felt "bloated," but he called her "beautiful," and suggested, "What's not to love?" She had him go fetch ribs for dinner.

On the docks, Claudia told Jerry and Ian, "Sonny dies on Friday."

Tuesday

Tracy walked in on Big Alice working Luke hard to get him in shape. Later, when Sonny arrived, Luke sweet-talked Alice into giving him a break so he could tell Sonny about Claudia seeking information on Sonny's vulnerabilities. Luke said he stonewalled her.

Elizabeth stopped by the GH nurses' station to ask Robin to watch Jake and Cameron for a moment. Cam immediately ran off with her stethoscope while Epiphany and Patrick laughed. When Liz returned she easily wrangled the kids. Later, Robin asked Liz how she balances work and family. Liz admitted she often feels on the brink of collapse, but there are good times. Robin asked if Jason could help, since he was so good at raising Michael. Liz noted she could use some support, but she can have it all. When Patrick pointed out that Robin has a one-track mind, she agreed to have dinner with him.

At Crimson Point, Johnny requested dirt on Sonny then told Claudia (dressed in black) that Ric is trying to spring their father. Claudia said Anthony is evil and deserves to remain locked up.

Liz visited Monica on the day of her hearing, and assured her that Emily would forgive her for running down Sam. Outside the courtroom, Alexis noted that Nik isn't handling Emily's death well, but he insisted he doesn't want to die. In court, Nadine arrived just as the judge began the hearing. Monica pleaded no contest and offered to enter rehab and serve 6 months' community service, but Judge Morris wasn't buying. He scolded her and was just about to issue a sentence when Nikolas jumped up and pleaded Monica's case. Citing the deaths of Emily was Alan, he urged the judge to consider her pain.

When Kate arrived in her "office" she learned that Maxie had not received faxes from Milan, so she dispatched Lulu to pick up Adrian's designs. Kate indicated that Maxie and Lulu are in competition — as a lesson to Maxie about what a jungle the fashion industry is. When Lulu returned with the designs, Maxie put her on notice. Later, Lulu bemoaned babysitting Adrian's dog, then clashed with Maxie over how to organize packages to be shipped overseas. Later, Maxie enlisted Spinelli for geography lessons, but it was too late — she had screwed up a shipment. She started sobbing in his arms.

At his warehouse, Sonny told Bernie he's going to be more hands-on and bolstering the legitimate coffee business. Jax arrived to tell Sonny that spending more time with Michael is unacceptable, and Carly backed her husband. Jax suggested Michael wants to follow Sonny into a life of crime, so Sonny must distance himself. Sonny insisted he's a legitimate coffee importer, but Carly pointed out that's just a front, and telling Michael he was legit would be lying. Sonny resolved to prove to his son that he's capable of more than violence. Later, at Metro Court, Carly told Jax she won't legally bar Sonny from his kids. Kate burst in and demanded that Jax show her office space. Carly tried to send her away, but Jax insisted on dealing with Kate. Later, Kate visited Sonny's warehouse with news that she's taking office space at Metro Court. Sonny told her Jax called him a danger to his kids. She agreed he needs to spend more time with his kids. Then they kissed. Back at Metro Court, Carly railed at Jax for comping Kate's launch party, so Carly insisted on billing Crimson. Claudia piped up from the bar, and Carly tried to throw her out. Claudia blurted, "You're jealous because I slept with your ex-husband."

Back at the Q manse, Johnny visited Luke with an offer to invest in the Haunted Star. Luke realized Johnny wants to launder money — and get close to Lulu. Convenient, since Lulu was eavesdropping.

The episode concluded with a 45-second highlight clip paying tribute to GH's 45th anniversary.

Wednesday

As Patrick waited to take her to dinner, Robin insisted she had nothing to wear despite being clad in a knockout dress. She complained, "I am so, so not sexy." He assured her she looks gorgeous, so she called him "insensitive." Nevertheless, they went to Metro Court, vowing not to talk about her pregnancy. They struggled to make small talk, so the conversation turned to the inevitable. Robin felt bad that Carly overheard them. Patrick carelessly ordered wine, but she insisted he enjoy it. She had to excuse herself a number of times to, as she put it, "pee." Back at her place later, she noted she'll have to pee again soon, then apologized for being loco. Patrick waxed eloquent about the changes she was going through and the baby growing inside her that will change their lives. She fell asleep on his shoulder.

In court, Nikolas pleaded Monica's case, followed by Diane and even Alexis. Then Sam leaped up to claim the accident was her fault for running into the road (She neglected to mention she was being chased by a crazed serial killer at the time!), and doesn't blame Monica. Instead of citing everyone for contempt of court, Judge Morris ordered Monica to attend rehab and 6 months of community service — exactly the deal Diane and Alexis had worked out. Afterward, Monica thanked everyone and vowed to make Alan and Emily proud. In the empty courtroom, Nik saw Emily, who thanked him for helping her mother.

At the Quartermaine manse, Luke told Lulu that Johnny wants to invest in The Haunted Star. Lulu asked if he's investing because of her, but he dodged the question. Luke agreed to accept Johnny's cash — but only as a silent partner. Luke warned Lulu that Johnny is dangerous, and he'll never change. Lulu exposited about how her parents taught her that bad boys cannot be tamed, so she's not interested in Johnny. Later, Luke told Tracy that Johnny was buying into the Star, and she was aghast.

At Metro Court, Carly and Claudia traded barbs over Sonny. "You do not want me as an enemy," Claudia hissed. Carly warned her to stay away from her family and hotel. Upstairs, in Kate's suite, Maxie told Spinelli she accidentally sent a mock-up to Paris instead of Hong Kong, and feared her career would be over before it started. She begged him to use his mad hacker skillz to save her. Carly arrived and demanded to know what they were doing. She warned Spinelli not to "hurt" Lulu and left. Spinelli hacked the delivery system and rerouted the package back. An ecstatic Maxie impulsively kissed him — leaving Spinelli shaken. Back downstairs, Carly ran into Lulu who told her about Johnny and the Star, and admitted she fibbed about not being interested in Johnny. Carly assured Lulu she's nothing like homebody Laura, so stop overthinking Johnny and follow her heart. Lulu rationalized that Sonny's truce with the Zaccharas is a green light for her.

At the GH nurses' station, Elizabeth found a chart with Emily's handwriting on it, and shared memories with Nadine, including recapping Emily/Nik. On cue, Nik arrived with word that Monica got off. Nadine waxed eloquent about Nik's speech in court, and said Emily would have been proud. (He knows.)

Back at Crimson Point, Claudia asked Johnny to buy Metro Court out from under Carly. He told her about the Star. She doesn't trust Luke, and immediately figured Johnny bought in to get close to Lulu. He said he wants to take care of Lulu, because she doesn't have money of her own. Claudia reminded her brother, "Sonny dies on Friday."

Thursday

Jerry gave Ian a sniper rifle with which to shoot Sonny tonight. Ian offered Jerry the chance to whack Sonny, but he refused because he didn't want to sour relations with brother Jax. At Crimson Point, Claudia told Johnny to establish an airtight alibi for tonight — Lulu, perhaps? Johnny said Lulu is keeping her distance. Meanwhile, Kate visited Sonny at his office to invite him to dinner, but he had to go to the warehouse to oversee a coffee shipment. He ordered all guards sent home because customs agents would be there. Kate asked to go along — and to bring Michael. Kate and Sonny agreed this would be a good opportunity to show Michael there is more to Sonny's business than just guns and violence. Kate asked to drive Michael to the warehouse because it would give them time to talk. Michael was at home, playing a violent video game — which Carly snatched away. She banned him from playing video games. Carly went to Metro Court, where she learned Jax was planning renovations as part of a plan to rent the entire third floor to Kate. Carly flipped and ordered Kate confined to a supply annex behind the kitchen. Jax arrived and begged to differ. They argued over renting to Kate and investing in her magazine. Carly accused him of punishing her for the miscarriage. He said he's making a conscious effort to move on by plunging into work. Carly was angry that he's plunging into work with Kate. Later, when Kate arrived to sign the lease, she got a call from Maxie, who said some Southern distributors wanted to meet tonight. Still later, Jax told Carly he was going to Houston to meet some distributors in Kate's place.

Jason returned to the penthouse from his surgery to find Elizabeth waiting. As they embraced he told her the doctors said that with therapy, his hands should be fine. Liz showed him photos of Jake, and Jason admitted thinking about her and their child a lot, so — uh-oh, Liz got summoned to the hospital to deal with an emergency! Bye, Liz. At GH she learned a little boy had been hit by a car. She watched as the distraught father called the child his whole life. Jason visited Sonny, who told him he's focusing on coffee and de-emphasizing the mob business (but not getting out). Jason returned home to thank Spinelli for arranging for Liz to greet him. Then Jason said he's thought a lot about Jake and regrets not seeing him growing up. "I don't wanna miss any more," he confessed. Back at GH, Liz watched as the tearful father got word his son would be okay. Liz realized that the father was important to the son's recovery. Robin piped up to ask if Liz thinks her kids are missing out on having a father. Liz said yes. Robin pointed out that at least Lucky wants to be part of a family, unlike Patrick. "There are no perfect fathers," Liz laughed. (Leaving unsaid whether she believes in perfect mothers.)

Claudia visited The Haunted Star and asked Luke when the casino would open. Luke reminded her that Johnny is a silent partner. Too bad — she intends to take an active role. She worried about Johnny's "interest" in Lulu. Luke said he doesn't care about Lulu's suitors — "but don't even think about threatening my kid." Anything happens to Lulu, and he'll kill Johnny. Back at Crimson Point, Johnny accused his sister of having feelings for Sonny. She assured Johnny she wants Sonny dead, because she resents Sonny for locking up Johnny (like their father did). She apologized for leaving and not returning to the family all those years ago. Over time she has learned the power of flaunting her sexuality — it makes people underestimate her. She researched Sonny and made herself up as bait to trap him. She pretended to enjoy being treated like a whore. Trevor interrupted to recap about the Sonny truce, and wondered why the siblings didn't seem worried about Sonny.

Kate picked up Michael, who apologized for her accidental shooting. Kate said guns are never the answer. Sonny told Max and Milo to drop him off at the warehouse and then take the rest of the night off. Meanwhile, Ian established a sniper's nest at the warehouse.

Friday

Michael admitted to Kate that buying the gun was stupid, and Kate pointed out Sonny is moving away from violence. Trevor advised Johnny to kill Sonny immediately, but Johnny asked Trevor to sell him the Alcazar piers. Then Johnny and Claudia set about establishing alibis. She went to Metro Court, where she ran into Jerry — who was also working on an alibi. Claudia went to the front desk and asked to rent the penthouse. When Marty said it wasn't available, she made a scene and demanded to speak to the owner. Meanwhile, Alexis visited Sonny's cafe to quiz Sonny about Randy's corpse. Alexis wondered if Randy shot Kate and Sonny killed him in return. So, treating her not as the DA but as the mother of his kid, Sonny told her about Michael shooting Kate. She was mortified. Sonny promised that while he can't get out of the life, he's going to concentrate on his legitimate side businesses so his kids can "inherit something that isn't soaked in blood." In fact, he's showing Michael the coffee business tonight.

At the penthouse, Spinelli hoped that Jason would put aside his fears of violence and unite with Elizabeth. Jason explained there is no getting out of the life. Spinelli suggested applying his bodyguard skills to his own family. Meanwhile, at GH, Robin called Liz her inspiration. Liz confided that she wants to be with Jason. Robin noted Jason was a "terrific" father to Michael. Liz admitted to lingering fears about Jason's violent life. Robin pointed out her (spy) parents had violent lives, but she remembers the love. Later, Jason returned to the penthouse to find Liz waiting once again. She explained about the injured boy and his father. "He reminded me a lot of you," she cooed. "I've asked you to make the wrong sacrifice," she continued, adding, "You deserve to raise your own son." She suggested it's wrong to lie and sneak around. "I want to share a life with you," she said. "That is all I want," he replied. "I want a family with you."

Earlier, Carly had demanded an explanation for Jax going to Houston in Kate's place. He suggested they turn it into a romantic getaway, but when she insisted he choose between her and Kate, he turned it back on her: Come along on the trip, or not. "Not," she said. So he left. She went home to take the kids to dinner, but was horrified to learn that Kate took Michael to Sonny's warehouse. When Jason suddenly arrived, she unloaded her mountain of Sonny issues on him. Jason urged her to cut Michael some slack. Then Marty called with word that Claudia wanted to talk. Carly went to Metro Court, where she traded barbs with Claudia. Meanwhile, Jerry went to the Jacks house (with Thai food) to visit Jax (well, to establish an alibi, but who's counting). Mercedes told him Michael went to the warehouse with Sonny. Horrified, he raced to stop Ian — but got into a traffic accident with Alexis.

At The Haunted Star, Luke asked Lulu for accounting help, but she was ranting about Maxie. When he suggested she quit, Lulu refused to let Maxie "win." Then she mentioned Johnny.... Luke said she needs to deal with her feelings. Later, when Johnny showed, he started arguing with Lulu — so naturally they kissed.

Later, Sonny arrived at the warehouse and met the customs agents. Then Michael and Kate arrived, as Ian took aim from his sniper's nest. Sonny gave Kate some beans to smell as Ian tried to draw a bead on him. Sonny said Kate was right to bring Michael to the facility. As Michael and Sonny embraced, Ian took aim.... Sonny saw a glint of light off the scope (note to Ian: Rent The Professional) and dove to protect Kate as the bullet ricocheted. Sonny was making sure Kate was okay when he heard a cry: "He's bleeding!" Michael lay on the ground, gushing blood from a head wound.
