General Hospital Recaps
GH Week of September 1, 2008
Monday
On Labor Day, ABC re-broadcast the GENERAL HOSPITAL episode from Monday, July 7, 2008. You can see our recap of that day here.
Tuesday
Jason and Elizabeth made out — until he stopped himself, fearing that if he sleeps with her he'll want the life he cannot have. "I need you," she pleaded. Then his phone rang, reminding Jason that lots of people depend on him (coffee is addictive, remember). Liz said she has changed and now understands she has to compromise and cannot expect him to change. "All we have is the present," she said. "And in the present, all I want is you." "I can't do this anymore," he sighed. "Have you stopped loving me?" she asked. "You know I love you," he said, and stalked out, leaving her to cling to her hope.
On the island, Sonny brought Kate flowers — flowers that Carly had planted. They decided to make some new history, but Carly's legacy was everywhere, leaving Kate to wonder if Carly will never really be out of Sonny's life. He maintained he's furious that Carly took away his children. Kate said Jax also sees the special Sonny/Carly bond. Sonny insisted he's legit now, and in the best place he's ever been because of her. The only thing he feels for Carly is "sadness."
At Metro Court, Karpov fumed over Jax getting his visa revoked and demanded Sasha quash the order, then threatened Jax. Afterward, Carly worried that Karpov is dangerous, but Jax told he was trying to protect her from him. He admitted he's almost ready to come home, but still wants to take things slowly.
Lulu saw Logan hanging out (with his hands in his pockets) in Laura's room at Shadybrook, but Mommy reassured her. Laura realized that Logan isn't trying to keep Lulu from feeling hopeful — Lulu is. Laura encouraged her to talk to Logan and explain why he died. Lulu resisted her mom's pop psychology by claiming she led Logan on, but Laura made her remember how she felt the night Logan died. She recalled being frightened and shocked and hating him. She shouted "Stop!" at the hallucination. Then she told him she hates him and all that he did to her. "You shoved yourself onto that knife and died," she spat. "I'm sorry you're dead. You need to leave me alone." And so he loped away. "He's gone!" she sobbed. Meanwhile, Claudia told Ric her version of events the night Logan died — including seeing Johnny do the deed. She claimed she stopped Johnny from turning himself in, and helped him cover up the crime. Ric knew it was a lie and refused to put her on the stand. He wanted to put Lulu on the stand, which made Johnny pitch a screaming fit. Johnny feared she would have a hallucination on the stand and be lost forever, so he promised to confess on the spot if Lulu was called to testify. Claudia got Johnny alone and realized that Lulu actually killed Logan. Johnny vowed to wreck Claudia's life if she hurts Lulu, but Claudia decided to save her brother's life anyway.
As Jerry eavesdropped, Matt told Maxie about losing a patient to counterfeit drugs, and how he swore not to let it happen again. He came to GH as part of his investigation of the drug ring. She agreed to back off and keep his secret because she identified with his dead heart patient. Later, Karpov showed up in that alley and ordered Jerry to shut up Matt "permanently."
Diane dropped by Sonny's to drop off the prenup and lament to Max that Kate would not marry Sonny if she knew he had sex with Carly. She could not tell Carly herself, however, so Diane thought Max needed to. Max had no intention of doing so. While they argued (loudly), a lurking Clarice overheard about the tryst.
Wednesday
Jax and Morgan surprised Carly by making breakfast. Carly was hopeful Jax would be staying. "I love you. I want our marriage to work," he said. "It will," she replied, kissing him. He asked her opinion about a house for his mother. When Carly loved it, Jax revealed he put in a bid on the house yesterday — for them, not Lady Jane. He said they are currently living in Carly's place, where he feels like a visitor. He wants to build a house together, and they need room for "additional family members." Carly said she wants to have a baby with him. Later, Jax summoned Alexis to handle the home purchase, but she refused, saying she doesn't want to be part of getting his heart broken again.
At PCPD, Johnny convinced Anthony to let him see Claudia. Johnny warned his sister to let him play out the trial his way, so she decided to run some errands.
In the Shadybrook courtyard, Lulu told Laura she hasn't had any more nightmares about Logan. Laura said she's not really eager to go home; she prefers staying with her daughter. After Laura went back to her room for a nap, Lulu realized Tracy was standing behind her. She said she couldn't locate Luke.
Jason visited Spinelli in the hospital, and when Elizabeth walked in Spinelli sensed tension in the air and asked about it. After Liz left, Jason said telling Liz about an imaginary affair with Sasha hurt Liz. Then Maxie arrived, fretting that she was subpoenaed to testify at Johnny's trial — and if she perjures herself and gets caught she'll spend the sexual peak of her life in prison! Jason advised her not to lie, but rather tell the truth as she knows it. Outside Jason's office, Cody found Clarice looking for access to Kate on Sonny's island. Cody told her to go to Sonny's bodyguard. When Jason returned, he ordered Cody to find whoever ran down Spinelli. Cody told Jason about Clarice. Then Carly burst in to tell him her marriage is saved. Meanwhile, at Sonny's place, Diane was telling Max to tell Kate about Sonny's limo sex when Clarice showed up.
At the G.H. nurses' station, Nadine told Leyla about her dreamy date with Nikolas, then asked Liz if she should think it's a big deal for Nikolas. Nik overheard, and insisted he enjoys Nadine's company and wants her to return soon. Not far away, Robin berated her mother for championing Patrick's proposal on the Internet. Patrick showed Robin an online message from Coleman singing Patrick's praises as husband material, and warned her has more testimonials.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Edward begged Monica to give him a doctor's note to get out of being summoned for jury duty, but she refused. Later, in the courtroom, Scotty and Ric conducted voir dire, and Epiphany was selected for the jury. Edward cited health issues and pleaded financial hardship, but when he admitted making $100 million in interest last year, Scotty insisted he serve (especially since Edward hates Johnny). Ric also approved of the Q patriarch, banking on Edward's feelings for Lulu. With a jury assembled, the judge announced the trial would start after lunch. Epiphany lectured the bellyaching Edward about civic duty — and met an attractive fellow juror. Elsewhere, Anthony assured Trevor that he has a plant on the jury. Tracy and Alan relished the sight of Edward in the box. Then the judge told the court that this is suddenly a "murder with special circumstances" case — meaning the death penalty was possible.
Thursday
At the penthouse, Carly told Jason that Jax will be her No. 1 priority now. Meanwhile, Jax told Alexis he trusts Carly, but Alexis cautioned him that the bond between Sonny and Carly leaves destruction in their wake. Later, Alexis met Jerry and asked him to talk to his brother. Jerry told Jax that Carly is best thing that ever happened to him.
As soon as Sonny and Kate returned home, Clarice wanted to tell her some news, but Kate threw her out. Diane dragged Sonny away for "business," so Kate went outside. Max botched his attempt to tell her about Sonny's tryst — he called Carly "Mrs. C." — and Kate scolded him. Then Sonny came outside and Kate left. Sonny insisted he and Kate are "very much in love." Jax dropped by Crimson and scolded Clarice for setting up Carly. Sonny went to see Carly at Metro Court and they reminisced about Michael hunting for seashells. Carly wished Sonny the best, because she now understands how much she loves Jax and wants the same thing for him.
In the courtroom, Scotty claimed Logan was an undercover police officer and produced forged documents to prove it — making the case "murder with special circumstances," and putting the death penalty in play. Edward, Epiphany and the other jurors discussed the prospect of serving on a death-penalty case. Nearby, Tracy and Alan also discussed the case. Ric suggested pleading out, but Johnny noted Anthony would flip if he spent even a day in prison. Nikolas visited Lulu at Shadybrook, and Lainey reported she's making progress. Lulu credited "being close to Mom." She said her life now depends on Johnny. When Lucky arrived, she asked for a trial update. He told her about the "murder with special circumstances" development, and Lulu resolved to testify. Later, Laura came out to talk to Lulu. In court, Scott and Ric delivered their openings. Ric said Logan had post-traumatic stress disorder, and Johnny was forced to kill him in self-defense. Detective Harper admitted there were no eyewitnesses to Logan's death. Edward grumbled to Epiphany until scolded by the judge. Scott next called Claudia, who took the stand with an ominous stare.
At GH, Maxie needled Elizabeth about Spinelli's theory that Jason is dating Sasha. Liz sniped back, but Jason's arrived broke it up. He took the Jackal to the penthouse, where Spinelli bemoaned his lack of macho. Jason pointed out that between the death and violence and fear for his loved ones, thee was little to admire about his world. "You're already a better person than I am," he sighed. Jason mused about losing Alan and Michael — and doesn't want to lose Spinelli. Then Maxie arrived, intent on moving in to take care of Spinelli.
Kate went to the Crimson offices, where Clarice professed her undying loyalty and admiration for Kate before telling her, "Sonny and Carly had sex."
Friday
Nurse Maxie hovered over Spinelli at Jason's penthouse, much to Jason's dismay. At GH, Lainey, Kelley and Elizabeth all teased Robin about Patrick. She got huffy realizing Patrick had enlisted Nikolas in his absurd crusade, too. Maxie's luggage was ensconced in Brenda's "pink room," and Jason warned Spin not to get his hopes up. Mac arrived to question Spinelli about the hit and run and realized his towel-clad daughter was shacking up there. Jason sat on the steps doing his head-shake thing as Mac and Maxie
hashed this out. "Please put your clothes on. I'm taking you home," said ac. Maxie went off in search of a loofah instead. Mac was not pleased. Spinelli begged Jason not to send Maxie away. Back at GH, Patrick picked Nikolas' de-tumored brain about Robin and Mac rushed in to ask Robin to talk to Maxie. Robin went over to chat with her cousin. Maxie assured her she just wants to take care of Spinelli. Then, Jason unwittingly put in his two cents about Robin marrying Patrick. LOL! Later, Maxie tried to kick Sasha out of the penthouse. At the hospital, Mac affectionately
threatened to make Patrick pay if he hurt Robin and turned out to be a lousy dad. Frustrated Robin went OFF and started cramping.
At Johnny's trial, Edward played snarky peanut gallery as Scott questioned Claudia about her brother's love life and her whereabouts during the murder. When things got heated, Ric objected and Claudia stepped down. Scott then called Nadine, asking about Logan's body disposal. Luckily, Nadine's trademark quirkiness made things much more interesting. Even Ric and Anthony couldn't hide a smile. Of course, Nadine's frank chat with the judge landed her in jail for contempt of court. Nikolas showed up to bail her out.
Kate reeled as Clarice told her all about Carly and Sonny's limo sex. Naturally, at Casa Jacks, Jerry offered Jax some good advice about fixing things with Carly. At the Metro Court, Sonny sighed to Carly, "We need to let go of that night" -- thereby jinxing them. They then talked about the kids. Clarice assured Kate that Sonny loves her, but Kate was feelin' pretty low. They discussed "looking the other way" for the sake of her rep. Right on cue, Jax arrived! Sonny, meanwhile, came home to Diane's thoughts on his love life: "If you cannot be faithful to Kate, don't marry her." Back at
Crimson, Kate wasted no time telling Jax about the limo sex. Max visited Carly and asked if it would be better if the limo sex came out. Carly assured him that she and Sonny were over. "When I'm married, I'm faithful!" Sonny huffed to Diane, who rocked the house naming off Alexis, Sam, Reese, and Emily. LOL! Still, Sonny refused to budge. Elsewhere, Jax refused to believe Carly and Sonny went there again, but Kate convinced him it was true. Carly assured Max that she loves Jax and wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, that's when he slammed in. At Sonny's, as he made small talk, Kate straight up asked him if he and Carly had sex. Jax asked a pointed question of his own: "Did you sleep with Sonny back in May?"
