First let me say I have loved this show for many years.
I have stuck by this show all through the years or great writing, good writing and poor writing.
When you have a real good actor like Scott C. ( he is one of many) don't you think you should write for him, to keep him? I do not understand lettng a good catch like him go. You should not let the story you write take a turn like you have and loosing him as a actor is a major mistake to me.
He is a very good actor who can be so funny, two rare things to find on our shows today.
OLTL has been (to me) doing well lately. I do not want to see it go backwards or get as bad as AMC.
Keep good actors, all of them, write for them and please a little less science fiction, and more Love in the Afternoon, please.
It would take a hell of a lot for OLTL to get as bad as AMC, but I do agree that they droped the ball, BIG TIME, on all of the characters involed in this whole storyline. Stacy shouldn't have gotten the axe, and neither should Skyler. I understand if Kim doesn't want to stick around, even though I think it would be fun to watch her and Clint together....but that can be fixed by bringing Lindsey back.
I still think that the writers are hitting a wall, which could have been expected since they have been on fire since taking over for Dena Higley. But they have dropped the ball on a number of characters and storylines. They brought back the Tina EVERYBODY wanted and put her in a lame storyline with Carlo, along with Chris, Antonio, Talia, and Sarah and it totally bombed and I remember back in the day Andrea Evans made every storyline she was involved with a winner. With Tina and Carlo alone, there was years of history to be mined. That was a lost opportunity. They should have put her in a storyline with Viki and Todd, added Carlo to the mix and that would have been a slam dunk. They bring back Marty and decided to make her a third wheel and a roadblock for John and Natalie?!!! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. This show has been blessed to have had some fantastic actors and has one of the most fabulous histories any show could hope to have and they are not utilizing to the fullest. The Mitch Laurence storyline should have been a home run instead the runner got stuck on first. But it is not bad, the writing is more good than bad, I just feel like that if they are going to use history make it mean something, make it count for something. If you are going to make Jessica go back to her senior year, make sure you take a lame plot driven story and make it character driven, make Jessica, Christian, Layla, and Brody do things in the context of character. Even though they have both loved others and clearly moved on from one another, I always felt they had unfinished business. Their breakup left a lot to be desired. Now is the time to address it and give Chris/Layla, Jess/Brody some real rooting value.
I, for one, hate the new storyline for Jessica and I think they are headed down the wrong road with this one. I'm kind of sick of Jessica and all of her countless problems. I have been rooting for Christian and Layla for a while, and now they have to go and throw Jessica and her memory loss up in the mix. I'm just not a big fan of her acting as if, just because she can't remember the details of her life, it's ok for her to drag everyone else back to her senior year in HS. Plus, I think Brody deserves to share a little happiness with Jessica. The man has saved her tail on more than one occassion....can he catch a break? Plus, I can see the writing on the wall...if they continue with this Christain/Jessica thing....Layla will be the one who will get the short end of the stick....Mark my words! I like Layla, and I think if they head down this road, it will eventually be the end of her character.
I am not a big fan of this storyline either, I just feel that if they are going to stick with it, make it character driven, and use it to give Jess/Brody, and Layla/Chris rooting value. and guess what, if they do hook up Chris and Jess, i wouldn't mind Layla being with Brody because I always felt that there was a very hot sizzling chemsitry between them anyway. She was the first Llanviewite to meet him and he was always coming on to her. Plus, they have kissed before and it was SMOKING.
Thats just it, we have really good actors, but the writing is going down hill fast. They need to fix this so they don't get as bad as AMC. No they are not that bad yet, that is the last thing I want to see.Jessicas stories have been crap for a while. They have over done the Tess/Bess mess, now she is a wacko teen.
I agree that things have been focused on Jessica for far too long...come on! First her husband is killed, then her splits wreak havoc on everyone and she ends up int he nuthouse where she meets a new man she can love (Brody), then she finds out her baby died and she took Hope and has to give her up, then Mitch shows up and "shocks" her back to high school where she thinks shes in love with Cris again? Good Grief give the character a break! Cris and Layla finally got together give them some time!
I think that since Jessica is Viki's daughter, they are setting her up to be the next great heroine of the show now. The problem is people are getting sick of it. I fast forward through Jessica now not because she is getting so much attention, but because she is becoming such a perpetual victim and it is getting boring. I think that is what is turning off a lot of Jess fans. Maybe with this memory loss will come a new personality with a little Mitch Laurence instilled to make her interesting again. Because let's face it, I think that one of his kids should display at least some of his bad traits. why not make it Jessica?
I don't see Jessica that way. Maybe because of the writing?? Somebody would have to fix her up a bit to be a new Vicki. At least Vicki is strong and Nicki was a hoot & not over done like Tess.
Hmmmm...We were subjected to 30 years of Niki and the writers had been wanting one of Viki's kids to have DID since like...forever. Remember when Megan was on Fraternity Row and she turned into her character Ruby Bright and had those adventures with Marco? Well, I do. Tess was very entertaining on her better days. Jessica is a great character. I just want to see some strength. Viki is and has always been a survivor. Jessica is too, but I sometimes just don't get her. Look at Megan and Natalie, those two were hell on wheels when they wanted to be. Jessica is soo not like that.
Marco was one of my all time fav's, so yes I remember. My point, for me, is that I have been Tess to death. Jessica is fine, but she has been turned into a nutcase. How many times over 30+ years have we seen Nikki? How many times over the past couple has Tess beenout? For me, I want a break from Jess & her issues.
The whole 17 Again storyline just need to go away, period. And when her azz showed up in Chris's class that was it for me. I totally dislike Jessica at this point. I say bring back Tess just to kick Jessica's butt and bring her back to the real world
I am just happy that one of Viki's kids are on because they got rid of all of them. And I couldn't stand it if the only one of her kids that was on was Natalie who has been on 10 years, but not as long as her other legacy kids. Personally I think they should recast Kevin with Timothy Gibbs (the hottest Kevin ever!!), bring back Cassie and let their chemistry shine bright and give Viki and Dorian another reason to go at it.
I am not feeling any love for OLTL right now. The writers have forgotten about Tea/Danielle/Todd, and are forcing us to sit through Kelly/Todd. Just 1 month ago Todd and Tea were head over heels in love and now it seems that they are going to make me watch Kelly fall for another relatives ex. I hate that they are getting rid of all of their exceptional young, new talent, but I don't want them forced down my throat knowing they won't be on much longer. They totally ruined Mitch after a promising buildup, and after much thought, I would rather see John with Evangeline than with Natalie or Marty. I would like them to recast Kim with someone just as spunky and sassy as Amanda Setton and watch her mix it up with the Buchanans. I hate to say this but I am tired of Rex/Gigi, and unless there is going to be a fab payoff, I don't want to see Jessica chase Christian. I no longer HAVE to watch this show everyday. I hate that.
Now, I am so glad that someone finally brought up Evangaline. I have no idea why OLTL got rid of this character, in the first place. She had a strong connection and love with John...and there was definitely an attraction that Tod had for her. She was one of my all-time favorite characters, and they just ditched her like she was yesterday's garbage. It is definitely time for her to wake up out of that coma.
Okay. Vangie was on her way to becoming one of the great OLTL heroines. But Renee Goldsberry's contract was up and they reached an impasse and she was written out. After the writers inexplicably decided that Natalie was the woman for John, I liked her with Christian, but I was really intrigued with her and Todd. I think that she would have been the one to finally humanize him and make him really worth rooting for. And I am with you, it is time for her to wake up, shake up Cris and Layla, give Nora her confidante back and if they aren't going to put Tea back with Todd, then have her go through an amazing journey with Todd. She would make Todd wake up and see that life and love was about others and it is not always about him
Evangeline is definitely a character that OLTL should bring back to the canvas. I would much rather have seen her return, than have to live through yet another Mitch Lawrence revival. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the excitement that he brought, but now I'm done and I would like to see some focus on someone else. Now would be the perfect time for Evangeline to wake up....since Jessica wants to relive her youth...of course that would throw a wrench in Layla's plans for Christian as well. One other character I want to see return is Lindsey. Talk about Nora needing someone to spend some time with...Lindsey should definitely make a return...Now that OLTL has lightened their cast up, I think there's plenty of room for Lindsey & Evangeline.
Evangeline's return would affect the entire canvas. She was just that connected to people. I want Lindsey to return also just so she can toss it up with Clint, Bo, and Nora. The only time I have ever been interested in Nora was when she was going head to head with Lindsey and I always wanted Lindsey to win!!! For some unknown reason, I am not that keen on a Patrick return. Maybe because I feel like he would box Marty in. Although the drama his return could generate would make great storyline. Cole's father returns, the writers could resume his rivalry with Todd, Marty gets the love of her life back, Blair's feelings for him could be reignited. Our hearts could go aflutter when he reads one of his really romantic poems.
I wonder if the HW of OLTL will ditch this whole stupid Jessica/Christian storyline, when the ratings take a nose dive, since they were so quick to turn their backs on Kish.....because I am already so sick of this story, and I find myself channel surfing when I see Jessica on screen now.
I am beginning to think the writing team over there is schizophrenic because one minute they are penning brilliant affecting story (Charlie/Viki, Kish, Tea/Todd, Todd/Marty) then they are writing lame stories (Jess/Cris, all things Mitch, Tina and Carlo and the gang). The ratings are already going down. I believe that once they get over their Mitch fixation, and start concentrating on the people we care about, everything will fix itself.
I was so excited when I found out Mitch was coming back but they screwed this up bad.
I was excited too, but of course they screwed that up so badly. That is what I am talking about. They get you excited then the follow through is botched. When the original Tina came back I thought, Wow, it's lights out. And although she never acted opposite Carlo (Karen Witter did) I just knew there would be sparks. It was a true letdown. Instead of putting her with Viki, Bo, Clint (this would have done good), or have her bond with Sarah (which probably would have made us like her), or made us see what her chemistry with David Vickers would have been like, they shackled her with the guy from Days of Our Lives, botched the bonding session with Sarah, and gave her cringeworthy scenes with Cristian, Talia, Antonio, Natalie, Jared and Tess. The stories were steeped in history, but the execution was totally sloppy. By the time she finally had good scenes with Viki, no one cared anymore.
I have a bone to pick with the HW's of OLTL....what in the hell are they thinking with this whole Natalie/John/Marty storyline? Jared hasn't even been dead barely five months and Natalie is already fawning all over John, like she was never in love with Jared. I mean, this is a woman who was so out of it by her husbands demise that she grabbed a letter opener, went to the POLICE STATION and stabbed Mitch Lawrence. What are they thinking over at OLTL? She's not grieving over him....she's not talking about him....she's not even thinking about Jared anymore. I mean, at least when Jessica lost Nash she grieved over her husband for a considerable amount of time. They should have just left Natalie & John together, when they were a hot couple and everyone was cheering for them. Because now, this story just makes Natalie look like a home-wrecking skank. To me, Natalie has a lot more in common with Stacy than I originally thought.
Stories like this make me start to really dislike characters. Nat is reminding me of Ryan on AMC. As soon as a wife dies he is haveing sex with someone else. Its not just Ryan and Nat either. It has become to common on all the shows.
I have never liked the Natalie/John pairing and this storyline is totally not doing it for me for the simple reason I loved Jared and thought he was a good fit for Natalie. Also, being a spoiler in another romance is in Marty's history (Andrew/Cassie, Blair/Patrick) but with Patrick, everyone knew the rooting value was with Patrick and Marty, and she had been in love with Andrew before when she was a wild child spreading rumors because he rejected her. But this seems so forced and I am not enjoying this at all. Marty is a grown woman who has come into her own. Seeing her involved in a triangle with Natalie just seems so wrong on so many levels.
" As the World Turns' Emmy-winning head writer, Jean Passanante, has been hired by One Life to Live. Passanante will rejoin the OLTL writing team when ATWT ends production later this year. The scribe has also previously worked on All My Children and Another World."I hope this new head writer puts life back into our show.

Are you kidding, she has put Another World and As The World Turns into the grave-why would she help OLTL?
Well, she's not the new Head Writer. She's a Co-Head Writer. So, I'm sure she won't have too much free reign.
No she won't but Ithink she is a emmy winner. She has wrote for OLTL before so, I am hoping she can help before they sink OLTL like they are doing AMC. I went from loving OLTL to becoming very disappointed in the show very quickly. I want to see alll the ABC soaps back in there glory. They are all going to pot and I worried. I can see they fact that she was with a show when it died is something to be very concerned about. I am just hoping for better. But, thats what I said about AMC & I have yet to see new writting help the show .
Obviously, the network is losing faith in Ron Carlivati. That could be the only reason for bringing her on. However, do you know who's stories I really enjoyed when she wrote for OLTL briefly...Pam Long. I think she should be given another HW job because she rocked when she wrote for GL. And her OLTL stories weren't too bad also.
will Jp is one of the worse writer i know . she just writes character OOC to make her story work. and with Kish gone soon i not going to watch any stories OLTL.oh and She has three dead soap opera under her belt and she still get a job.
You know, I am loving those scenes with Schuyler. I wished they weren't writing him out because by making him Roxie's son, they set up so many storyline possibilites. such a wasted opportunity.

Here is the problem. You can't have a character come on and have them break up a fan favorite couple. They are cutting their losses by getting rid of Stacey and the whole bunch of them that tried to break up Gigi and Rex. The storyline was awful and no one liked it. I think they could have tried to put Skyler and Rachel together. Might have been funny to see him realize he had a crush on his roommate. I am think they really blew this one. Stacey would have been good with Skyler. They seemed to work. But they dropped the ball. It is too bad all the actors involved were amazing.
