I'm Mala, WEEKLY's news, ATWT, and B&B editor, but if you read our magazine and our site (and I hope you do!), you know that I sound off about GH a lot. I just thought I'd pop in to the GH board and say "hi!"

If anyone has questions, comments, or snack foods... I'm around.

I have a question. How far in advance of the soaps do you all get your upcoming information from the networks about what's going on? Sometimes, I tune into GH to see certain spoilers & they either don't take place at all, or seem completely different from what it says in the magazine(although everyone can take a scene in completely different ways)

Hi Mala! I hope you will be sounding off about GH here with us. I've always wondered about what everyone at the Digest and Weekly had to say. It is for that reason that I've always enjoyed reading Carolyn Hinsey's column in SOD and why I'm enjoying the new column, Second Opinions. Whether I agree with the opinions or not, I think the column was a great idea.

I do have one question, Mala - why are you guys no longer running interviews with the actors? I know there have been a number of changes (the size of the magazine, new layouts, features, etc.), but why get rid of the interviews altogether? As a reader (and current subscriber) of Soap Opera Weekly for almost a decade, I feel just in suggesting that perphaps the Dressed For Success be cut to one page and that the waste-of-space Double Take feature be cut out entirely. Even if only the latter were possible, it would still allow at least half a page in the magzine to be used toward an interview.

Anonymous - As we work with the shows and the networks, we know what's going to happen fairly far in advance, but that never accounts for last minute changes! If the directors and editors feel like cutting a scene before it makes it to air, they don't exactly call around to let folks know. LOL.Mrs_McAvoy - I've been watching GH from the womb, so I have no problem talking about the show! I'm glad you enjoy the editors' opinions in Digest. We're trying to do something similar in WEEKLY as well. Often times, we're all in the office e-mailing back and forth and saying many of the same things fans are while they watch the shows, so we figured it would be good to share some of that with our readers. As to interviews and the new format, thanks for the feedback! While we don't have those full 2 page interviews anymore, we DO have little mini-features for almost every show now, in the form of our Closer Look pages. We've kept that element of asking an actor about their lives or their story and just folded it into our news section. I'll definitely pass on your comments, though!

Nope. I put it on our filtered list. If we police our posters for actor bashing, then it's only fair we keep criticism of writers and showrunners respectful as well. "The Idiots in Charge" isn't exactly polite.

OK , whatever, just like to know all of the rules. I don't actor bash but always thought the writers etc. were fair game. thanks for explaining.

Writers are people, too! Just because someone doesn't like Writer X's storylines doesn't make the writer an idiot or a moron or anything else of that nature.

Ack! You're right. I completely forgot about those. The Closer Look feature does allow for more mini-interviews and I like how most (if not all) questions are storyline-related. And yet, I guess for me it's still not quite the same, but I'll get over it. I'm such a pain. LOL

I'll ask. Now that we're several episodes in, what do you think about GH Night Shift? What about GH bringing even more mobsters to town?I love the way Sri Rao has tried to redeem the character of Robert Scorpio. Guza has taken too many of GH's beloved characters, such as Robert, Holly and Felicia, and completely destroyed them. Personally, I'd like to see Sri Rao come to the day shift. At least he appreciates GH's history and characters.

I really love Night Shift. I mean, parts of it are a little cheesy, but at the core, it's got heart, it understands the characters, and, yes, it totally redeemed Robert from the "deadbeat dad" rep he's garnered over the years. As for Day Shift bringing more mobsters to town...

I agree it may be a bit cheesy at times, but at least its stories revolve around the hospital and not the mob. The mob is mentioned occassionally (apartment hunting) but is barely a blip storyline wise. What do you think about the Laura/Lulu scenes on the day shift?

Is there anyone out there thinking that Kate's cousin Olivia had Sonny's baby, and Kate helped to hide that fact? Kate said last week that Sonny went out with Olivia and Olivia "put out".........

Hi Mala,I saw that BGJ will be answering questions about Brenda and such in the new SOD. Just curious, when will GH answer all of the fan concerns throughout this forum that state we miss the GH of the 90's that had a balance of mob, love, vets and hospital action instead of today's mob oriented and partick/robin hospital action, while vets such as the Quartermaines are killed or not on the canvas? Thanks

just curious---- i was on the b&b board and people said that your magazine and soaps in depth had a lot of people writing in saying they want nick and katie together. is this true? i know NO ONE that likes them together or katie at all.most people hate her for interfering with nick and bridget. thanks for your time.

I think you'd get a better response asking on SOD's B&B thread than the GH one.

Hey Mala ! Is Genie Francis' run already done for awhile? I know Laura was there just to help Lulu through, and it seems like she's done that and that Lulu's heading to trial stuff....so does that mean Laura is done for a few weeks, or will we see her again soon? I hope she has more to do, and I hope the rumors are true and Genie will be there when Tony comes back from vacation - and that she'll have scenes with more people besides Julie.

Rest assured that Laura will be around in the fall, LuthersCorners. As Genie herself told me (and I shared in the Sept. 2 issue of WEEKLY) she will be taping more scenes in October. And Tony returns from his vacation this month. You do the math.

Thanks Joe! I like how this particular equation adds up. And if I'd had some more patience, Tuesday (9/9)'s show would have answered my question for me. Genie's soliloquy on Tuesday, to Lulu, was very, very good.

That's what I get for slacking off in my forum visits!toninelson - I have no idea where the Nick/Katie fan support thing came from, but it would indeed be better to discuss that on the B&B board.I'm glad Genie's back, too! What I really want is scenes with Nikolas and Lucky.

I would like to add Lesley to the list... Denise Alexander adds so much to the show for me when she's on, I'd love her to be a regular again. She could be shown on her own, trying to get back up to speed and be a doctor again, she could strike up something with Mike Corbin, she could be there for Laura and her grandchildren....so many things she could do.

We were talking and Sean and Tiffany's wedding in another thread. It is my favorite TV wedding of all time. It was in character and fun to watch. Actors usually hate filming weddings, since it is a lot of sitting around doing nothing. But they looked like they were enjoying themselves at Sean and Tiff's wedding.Joe and/or Mala, which wedding is your favorite and why?

Actually, Sean and Tiff's wedding is my favorite, too -- at least on GH. I couldn't venture to guess "of all time," though I'm sure it's up there on the list. I occasionally dust off the YouTube clips and rewatch when I need a giggle. It was pricelessly funny. Sean and Robert both losing it over the "Elsie May" stuff still stands the test of time!

A close second will probably be Frisco and Felicia's first wedding just because it's my first crystal clear memory of the show. I remember Frisco talking to her from the other side of the door and the police cadets in their uniforms... there's a lot of nostalgia there for me.

Just read your blog entry today about GH forgotten characters, and I didn't know where else to list a few...Slick and Emma....Luke's friend Slick, the taxi driver, and the ditzy blonde Emma Lutz, who may have inspired part of Tiffany's charm.Delfina, the wacky dress designer.Tammy the Hooker, who ran Kelly's for a while.O'Reilly, the lady agent who worked with Robert and died by gunfire in the phone booth with Robert on the other side of the phone conversation. I could have sworn Robert called her "mum" when she died, I recall lots of speculation that she may have secretly been Robert's mother.Filomena, Robin's Italian "grandmother" - who Robin recalled recently on the show.Stella, Lila's original best friend / maid. They kept the family afloat during hard times by marketing Lila's relish recipe as "PickleLila."Charlene, Lucy Coe's nutty aunt.Brian and Claudia, Laura and Luke's good friends.I'm sure I could do more, but I hope these bring back something for someone !
