I commend GH for telling this undoubtedly controversial story with a character as significant as Michael. Though the story is being thrust into the middle of an already busy array of major stories ... i.e. Sonny and Brenda's wedding, Carly's angling to destroy that union with revelations about Sonny's other son Dante and his wife, the Balkan, along with all the goings on in the hospital and with the Quartermaines/Scorpios,, I believe it is worth telling ... even if on daytime.
Too many times soaps take liberty to have a woman raped and although the stories are usually compelling ... sometimes, not "Hi EJ on DAYS ...they always end up being similar to other stories told and don't really seem new or a different way to tell of these tragedies.
Tell Michael's story if done well will be a great eye-opener for many. If told as a sideline to the SONNY & CARLY show (albeit about their son) then the impact will be a waste. This is the type of story that should stop all other in their tracks. Slowly characters should react to the news of this crime that was inflicted upon a character that is loved and admired by almost every character on the show and connected to a vast majority.
It would be amazing if this one act of violence against Michael forced the likes of Jason and Sonny to rethink their line of work and instead of ordering a hit on the guy in jail they reevaluate what they have brought upon their families and will continue to bring upon them. Laura Wright has the chops to play the mother role beautifully here by dropping her screaming and picking up her nuturing side when it comes to Michael and all her kids. It would be great to have one character ... a female or even another male ... console Michael by what it was like for them, especially if its a character that really has no true connection to Michael. It would be wonderful if Edward QUartermaine instead of ordering Michael to move into the mansion away from Sonny just showed up and said nothing but gave his shoulder to his grandson.
This story when its told on other shows has been a way to reform a bad character into a good one, a way to redirect the story telling on a show and put energies toward better writing and compelling arguments. For GH, mired in the bottom 3, the powers that be at ABC took a chance on this story and now have to deal with the outcome. By taking advantage of this sort of thing, showcasing true talent, giving a voice to what so many young men/boys must experience on entering prison or even outside, GH could redirect their energies away from violence and away from a one/two character driven model.
The rape of Michael should not be a subplot but a main one. It should derail the wedding of Sonny and Brenda, calm Carly, elevate Jason to more of a hero by showing him actually regret his past actions, promote the young actor playing Michael, create new and truly compelling story and, above all, redirect the energies that GH puts towards senseless violence (whether shown or not, implied is just as bad) and make the show something that makes it a true vehicle for amazing stories.
Sorry don't agree. The story of Michael healing, working through the situation and growing is enough for the character. Adding another layer of angst would be overkill.
The last week with the reveal of Michael's rape was fantastic. My only concern is that selfish characters- Sonny, Dante & Carly are making it all about them. Carly was a good mother for all of 5 minutes before she was out plotting & scheming. The scenes of Sonny & Dante were all, it's b/c of me, no it's b/c of me, no it's me, me, me. Chad Duell is outstanding & is pitch perfect in his portrayal. This s/l is about Michael & those selfish idiots need to shut up! As Michael copes with it, his romance with Abby is going to blossom & that is what I am looking forward to.

Carly for allowing Sonny into Michael's life. Many, many things would not have happened to Michael had Carly made better choices. She need to take full responsibility. Jason too. What happened to Michael I hate to say everyone had a part of putting him there by the one person who totally is to blame is Carly.
ITA about the blame. What gets me is instead of supporting Michael, they are making it all about them. If for a minute I thought either Carly or Sonny will change b/c of this, I could deal with their own self-pity. The only one who I can see changing b/c of this is Jason.
I like your story idea about Sonny's kid being gay, but not for Michael. I'd rather they do it with Morgan. He needs something besides "I lost my dad & now my step-dad's leaving too". Michael's got enough angst just being hetero Michael. Besides, Morgan is Sonny's biologically so it would be a more personal thing for Sonny the stud.

I agree 100%!What I do feel is that, besides the above-mentioned points -is that GH should simultaneously have Michael explore his sexuality. What incredible layers this would bring to the character if he were, because of the rape, forced to face the fact that he might be gay. Now, don't beat me up here...i am not saying the rape made him gay....What I am saying is it is worth exploring. What if he finds himself hanging around the stripper-girl because she is safe? What if he really feels he is gay, but his one encounter sexually with a man is rape and violence and it really screws him up? What about him being Sonny's son? This kid is ripe for some serious soap angst...Why not go all-out, and tell the hell out of the story?!?!
