One Life To Live Recaps

OLTL Week of January 12, 2009

Monday

After engaging in an afternoon delight with Rex, Gigi ran around the carriage house looking for her shirt so she wouldn't be late for work. But she didn't find it, so they went back to making love — this time behind the couch — until Shane walked in! The boy ran upstairs, and Gigi was worried that they'd scarred Shane for life. She had to leave for work, so she suggested Rex handle Shane. Rex braced himself for the dreaded talk.

Nora called Bo immediately after finding a joint among Matthew's things and headed for the police station. Meanwhile, Janet reunited with her old pal Renee and was shaking with fear as she begged Renee to hide her. She quickly explained that she helped Todd take care of Marty but had no idea who she really was or what she was getting into. Renee wanted to call Bo for help but Janet pleaded with her not to. After giving Renee the rest of her sob story, Renee agreed to let Janet stay in the guest house, as long as she's discreet.

At the Llanview PD, Nora walked into Bo's office with a joint that he assumed was Cole's. But Nora had news for him: It belongs to their son! Bo wanted to go straight home and interrogate Matthew, but Nora told him to stop acting like a cop and suggested they have a rational conversation with "the stoner" (as Bo called him). Just as Rex was sitting down to have an awkward chat with Shane, Bo and Nora summoned Matthew to the living room and presented him with the joint Nora found.

Meanwhile, Todd assured Téa that Janet is off enjoying the money he sent her away with. But Téa was afraid that the Dr. Joplin may have some postmortem power to expose Todd's scheme. The doorbell rang and Téa wasn't too surprised to see Viki, considering she'd urged Viki to pay her little brother a visit. "What do you want?" Todd barked. Téa headed out and made a hushed phone call asking someone for information on Leah Joplin, then stormed into the station and demanded to see all the evidence against Todd. Antonio managed to stonewall her, then showed Talia a folder full of Todd's phone records. They began to look over the records and saw that Todd made an awful lot of calls to Dr. Joplin and vice versa. Back at Todd's, Viki gave Todd the old "take responsibility for your actions" speech, and assured him that if he had died, she'd have missed him.

Blair visited John at Rodi's to confront him about always running to Marty's rescue. John called her out on still having feelings for Todd. "You're not over him and you probably never will be," he pointed out. She couldn't necessarily refute that, but the point she was trying to make with John is that she won't play second fiddle to Marty in another relationship. She admitted that she's just scared of losing what she really wants, so John gave her a reassuring kiss that led to makeup sex.

At school, Asher handed Cole a bag of pills and told him they'd surely help Cole "check out for a while." In a nearby classroom, Starr and "Mr J." discovered their common bond and assured each other that neither is to blame for their respective losses. Mr J. revealed that he and his mother had a difficult history, something that Starr could relate to. She expressed her sympathy for Mr J.'s loss and showed him the locket she keeps with Hope's hair inside. When Starr was out of the room, Mr. J. received a call from Téa about his mother. Todd phoned Starr but she let it go to voicemail. Cole paid Asher for the pills and went to the Angel Square Hotel to see John. When he got to the door, he overheard John telling Blair that Marty's staying with some guy down the hall. Cole turned right around and went to look for his mom.

Tuesday

Starr went to visit Hope's grave, but paused outside the cemetery gate when she saw that Todd was already there. She overheard him say that the reason Hope's not there is because of him, and that Starr will never forgive him. Starr sadly looked on in silence, but finally approached him. Todd promised to be a better father to her someday and hoped to be worthy of her love again.

Cole banged on Wes's door and begged for Marty to let him in. When she finally did, he pleaded with her to come home, but she said she didn't feel comfortable at Nora's. She admitted that she was having too much trouble trying to connect to Cole and needs some time to herself. Cole was devastated.

Gigi explained some details about the bar to John on his first day running Rodi's. Michael and Marcie stopped by for drinks, and Gigi swung by their table to tell them what happened at the carriage house that afternoon. Wes came face-to-face with his new boss, John, who grilled him about what happened with Marty. Wes just wanted to get back to work but during his break, called Marty to check on her. She asked if she could stay there a bit longer, and he told her to stay as long as she wants, which John naturally
overheard.

Back at the carriage house, Rex tried to explain to Shane what he'd just seen his parents doing in the living room. Shane wanted to bolt, but Rex insisted he stay for a minute and listen. When Rex awkwardly began "the talk," Shane blurted out, "It's called sex. Can't we talk about drugs instead?" As a lesson to Shane, Rex recalled the careless way that he treated sex when he and Gigi slept together in high school. The boy admitted that he had kissed a girl from school, but she wanted to "use tongues" and he wasn't ready. Rex was shocked and advised Shane not to do anything until he's ready and to come to him first with any questions. In turn, Rex promised that he and Gigi would no longer do it in the living room.

Matthew played innocent when Nora confronted him with the joint she found. Matthew was defiant and pointed out that he's been a "model kid" all his life, shrugging off one joint as no big deal. Matthew asked if either one of them had ever tried drugs, pointing out that Bo must have smoked up when he was in Vietnam. Bo insisted that he never did drugs in his life, so Matthew turned to Nora. She was taken aback, but even more stunned when Matthew
refused to go see the principal and rat out the kid who gave him the joint. Cole entered the foyer, but when he heard arguing in the living room, he stepped outside and swallowed another pill. Matthew, meanwhile, stormed out.

At St. Ann's, Jessica and Brody shared passages from each other's journals and tried to find answers for why they're there in the first place. As he recalled the night he shot the Iraqi boy, he suddenly saw the boy again in front of him. Jessica suggested he try confronting the boy. In his trance-like conversation, Brody revealed to Jessica that the boy said, "I know," in Arabic, and "It's a lie."

Rex and Shane arrived at Rodi's just in time to hear Marcie ask what Dr. Ruth would say. (Here's a piece of OLTL trivia: Noted sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer appeared as herself on the show in 1992). "Who's Dr. Ruth?" Shane innocently inquired. Michael helped himself to a pitcher of beer while Rex assured Gigi that everything went fine. Shane bluntly told Michael that they were at home talking about sex. Shane then asked Dr. McBain about a female part of the anatomy that made the recapper blush. Michael and Marcie then took Shane to the movies, leaving a befuddled Rex to catch his breath.

Wednesday

John caught Wes talking on the phone and told his new employee he wants to see a little more work and a little less talk. Talia couldn't believe that Marty was staying with a stranger when John later mentioned it to her. Behind the bar, Wes and Gigi chatted about their friend's mental state and Wes revealed that Brody sometimes sees the little boy he shot. Bo came by for some liquid courage and lamented to Rex that he and Nora caught Matthew with a joint. "Keep 'em comin'!" Rex cried out. Bo explained Mathew's attitude about the whole thing, but Rex wondered if Bo had tried pot in the '70s. Shut down by the look on Bo's face, Rex nervously claimed he never did either. He decided to play devil's advocate, pointing out that Bo likes to drink a lot, which Matthew had already tried to use as an argument. Rex told Bo he doesn't think Matthew is a pothead by any means or a bad kid, but that he's just trying to find his way. Bo wondered when Rex got so much fatherly insight, and Rex revealed that he and Shane had just had "the talk." Bo was impressed.

Cristian pumped iron at Serenity Springs while Antonio tried to talk him out of carrying on his fraudulent marriage with Vanessa. Cris insisted that he and Vanessa are not a fraud because they actually have feelings for each other. Antonio was shocked.

Vanessa informed Lola that Sarah took off and has no plans to return to Llanview anytime soon. Lola boldly suggested that Sarah's exit had something to do with Vanessa, who wondered if Lola's attitude was Téa's influence. Vanessa insisted that she isn't in love with Cristian, but acknowledged that Sarah leaving town does make it easier to convince Immigration that their marriage is real. Vanessa advised Lola not to speak with Téa about her mother's death again, which made Lola became upset. She claimed that Vanessa never wants to talk about what happened to Lola's mother, then went to meet Langston for a slumber party.

At the café, Langston showed Markko a letter she received from her uncle. He told her to just burn it, and Téa was on the edge of her seat as she watched Langston open the letter. Téa quietly told someone on the phone — all together now! — "Everything is going according to plan." Langston read the letter, which contained loving and remorseful sentiments, while Ray told Téa that he meant every word he wrote. Ray insisted to Téa that Vanessa is a monster and must be dealt with. Lola arrived with a CD for Langston and seemed disappointed to learn that Markko wouldn't be joining them. Langston admitted that she received a letter from Ray and a note was included for Lola. Inside was also a small photo of Lola with her parents. Téa remained in a dark corner as she watched for some reaction from Lola as she read the note, then emerged from hiding to speak with the girl. Langston and Markko watched Lola protectively from the counter. Téa gave Lola her card and was about to take off when Lola revealed that her father sent her a letter. Téa just told Lola to call her when she can, then left the café.

Brody tried to figure out exactly what lie the Iraqi boy was referring to. He recalled hearing just one gunshot the night he killed the boy. Brody sat down on the bed and had another flashback of the encounter in Iraq. He remembered seeing the boy hiding but this time he did not have a gun. Just as he was saying that he doesn't understand why he's remembering something in a completely different way than how it happened, Jessica had a flashback of herself saying, "Why aren't you crying, baby?" at the cottage. She then envisioned Tess standing with holding the baby whispering, "It's a lie." She told Brody what Tess said, and Brody suggested she go back to the cottage to figure out what really happened the night Chloe was born.

Roxy barged into John's apartment and offered Blair some clean towels and sheets after her makeup sex with John. She wanted to know what those two were arguing about, but Blair told Roxy to butt out. Blair decided to go to Rodi's for a drink (and a glimpse of its hottie McBarOwner).

Cristian returned to the loft to find a romantic dinner set up for him by Vanessa. She wanted to talk about Sarah, but he didn't think it was necessary. They both agreed that they're on the same page as far as their relationship goes, then began a passionate lovemaking session. Meanwhile, Antonio met up with Talia at Rodi's and shocked her with the news that Vanessa and Cristian are the real deal. Blair arrived just in time to overhear Talia mention to Antonio that Wes is shacking up with Marty, and John isn't too happy about it.

Thursday

In his classroom, Starr tried to talk to Schuyler about his mother. He fretted about violating the code of ethics. He opened up to Starr, telling her that he had been messed up "on drugs or something" and made life very difficult for his late mother. He tried to leave but she begged him to stay. He told Starr that Téa Delgado had been to see him. Starr speculated that perhaps the police wanted to know if his mother had told him anything about her baby.

Dorian enlisted Delphina's help to find David. Delphina already knew that David is Asa's son and sole heir. Delphina said that David was in Llanview but on another spiritual plane and that while he didn't yet know he was Asa's son, Beaver Calhoun was trying to locate him to tell him.

David came by the café and was greeted by Noelle, who suggested that he stand by the chili to warm himself up. Natalie, Jared and the baby arrived and David got permission to chant over the wee one. Natalie and Jared discussed how it was only a matter of time before Beaver caught up to David.

Jessica told Brody that she was going back to the site of her baby's birth. Jessica suggested that Brody ask Wes about the significance of his latest vision of the Iraqi boy. She told Brody that she would do her best to return as her (as opposed to one of her alters).

Marty and Wes sat down for breakfast. Wes informed Marty that McBain was his new boss but assured her that despite that complication, he didn't regret having offered her that ride. Wes went to see Brody, who asked him if he'd shot an innocent, civilian kid. Wes insisted to Brody that he hadn't done anything wrong, then "ordered" his pal to recover. Wes left, seeming troubled.... Brody had more disturbing visions.

With Viki and Clint and her doctor by her side, Jessica entered the cabin. She nearly hyperventilated as she recalled seeing her parents and holding the baby. She broke down crying as she remembered being there with Nash. She became increasingly distressed, recalling that Tess was alone while in labor. Viki noted that the baby was several hours old before Tess was located; did Jess know anything about that? All of a sudden, Tess reemerged. Viki asked Tess to tell her why she was so upset about Chloe. "I have to know what happened to my baby," she replied.

Cole reported to Nora that Marty hadn't spent the night at home. He said that his attempt to talk to Marty the night before had gone badly. Nora tried to sympathize but Cole was too shut down to receive her comfort. Nora informed Cole that Bo found a joint in Matthew's backpack. Marty returned; Cole bolted. Nora tried to make Marty go after Cole but she wasn't interested. Marty said that Cole deserved better than her and Nora made a disparaging remark about how Marty had shacked up with a stranger the previous night. A fight ensued. Nora begged Marty not to self-destruct. Wes
came by and squired Marty away as Nora looked on disapprovingly.

Cole got to school and roughed up his dealer, convinced that he'd sold pot to Matthew. The dude swore that he hadn't. He then went to Schuyler's room and barked at him to unhand Starr — he'd walked in on an innocent hug between them. Starr told Cole that Schuyler was Joplin's son. "Your mother is the reason our baby's dead," he hissed to the teacher.

David showed up to see Dorian. She was stunned by his appearance and his "Namaste" greeting. Delphina assured Dorian that David's vow of poverty was sincere. Delphina left and David apologized to Dorian for marrying Addie. Next, Dorian tried to tempt David with champagne and caviar; he tried hard to remain focused on his mantra. At Dorian's behest, Mo made himself scarce and Dorian set about trying to seduce David. He noted that it had been a long time since he'd had sex (and revealed that he and Addie had never consummated their marriage). Despite his best efforts, David ultimately succumbed to the temptation of Dorian....

Friday

David broke from his and Dorian's passionate kiss to chant and repress his physical urges. He reminded Dorian that he's a "man on a mission" and she agreed, saying his mission is to get upstairs and get it on with her! But whether he was up to the challenge or not, he'd sworn off sex. Dorian tried to play him another way by asking that he teach her the way of the Buddha. She even got on her knees and begged her to save him, so he tested her by breaking something very valuable. When he was gone, she held up the broken shards of the vase and swore to God that she would not only marry David, but kick the Buchanans out of their mansion and take back BE! Later, David was pleasantly surprised to find Dorian at his meditation session.

Cole didn't feel very sympathetic for Schuyler when he learned that Starr's new teacher is Dr. Joplin's son. But they talked it through and seemed to reach a truce. While Starr and Cole were arguing in the hallway afterward, Starr noticed something was different about her ex-boyfriend. "Cole, are you high?" she asked, noting that he's "all sweaty and jittery." When he continued to deny the accusation, she reached into his pocket and pulled out his bag of pills. Principal Dickinson caught on to their confrontation and
confiscated the pills. Meanwhile, Mr. J locked something in his desk drawer.

Marty followed Wes to work and demanded a drink from John, who would only give her a seltzer ‹ it was the morning, after all. Marty asked Wes about his friend at St. Ann's, and Wes reported that he isn't doing too well.

Gigi came by to see Brody and presented him with Shane's latest report card, which made Brody very happy. Gigi assured Brody that he'll always be a part of Shane's life and asked if it's okay for Shane to visit. Brody very much wanted to see him but wasn't sure it was a good idea. She said she'd check back in a week and see if he's ready for a visit then, and reminded him that he's not alone. Back at Rodi's, she ran into Wes and reported that Brody is still seeing the Iraqi boy. Inside, Marty challenged John to a game of pool, and upped the ante by planting a surprise kiss on him. Wes went to see Brody to admit the truth: The boy in Iraq didn't have a gun.

At the cottage, Tess begged Viki to help her find out what happened to Jessica's baby, while Jessica was trapped inside her subconscious with Bess. Jessica begged Bess to tell her what she knows. Meanwhile, Tess admitted to Dr. Levin that she wasn't alone when she gave birth — Niki Smith was with her. Tess explained that she imagined Niki but that her presence felt so
real. She recalled Niki putting the baby down on Tess's chest and the baby remained silent. Viki wondered if something was wrong with the baby, and Tess said she thinks the baby wasn't breathing. Jessica begged Bess to tell her whatever secret she's carrying around, and Bess let Jessica re-emerge. The first question Jessica asked was "What did Tess say?" Meanwhile, Tess came face-to-face with Bess and asked if her baby is dead. Bess confirmed her suspicion and told Tess it was her fault, while Jessica cried to her mom that what happened that night is all her fault.
