OLTL Week of November 10, 2008
Monday
Natalie and Jared begged Viki and Charlie to leave before the dynamite went off. Charlie insisted he wasn't going anywhere. A weeping Natalie insisted Viki go find Tess. Charlie and Viki began to squabble as Viki refused to leave. Jared begged his father to be careful. Natalie told her mother how much she loves her, and apologized for all the past pain she had caused. Charlie detached the dynamite and ran away from them. Seconds later, Viki, Natalie and Jared heard a big explosion. Jared began to cry at the thought that Charlie was dead. Viki panicked but was soon overjoyed when Charlie returned to the kitchen, covered in soot but very much alive. She opened the door to the secret room and a great round of hugging began.
Bess — Jessica/Tess' new alter— drove off with her dead baby girl, hoping to come up with a plan. "Why can't everything be as simple as math?" Bess wondered as she kept driving. She made it clear that she was going to act on something Todd had told Tess. Bess walked into Dr. Joplin's office at the hospital and watched as Janet talked to a little baby. Bess was relieved to learn that Starr had had a girl, too. "Perfect," she said.
Todd told Dr. Joplin that he wanted to cancel their "steal Starr's baby" plan. The doctor was delighted. Todd smiled at the news that Starr gave birth to a daughter. "I'm not that man anymore," Todd insisted. He agreed that the baby could go to Marcie McBain. Todd also told Dr. Joplin that he wouldn't be ratting out her son, the drug dealer, to the authorities. Again, she was relieved. Todd then told Janet that the baby deal was off. He wanted Joplin to take the baby to Marcie and Starr right away. Janet thought that Todd and Marty could have their own children. Janet, Todd and Dr. Joplin left the office. Bess entered and switched the dead baby for the live one. "Rest in peace," Bess said to the lifeless child she left in the bassinet. Dr. Joplin and Janet wondered why Todd had changed his mind. Janet went to check on Hope and saw that something was wrong. "The baby is dead," Dr. Joplin reported.
Earlier, Janet asked Todd if he wanted to see the baby when he confirmed that he and Marty would be going away. Todd admitted to Janet that he had screwed up with Starr, Jack and Sam. "Everything just blew up in my face," he noted. He didn't want to see Starr's baby. "She's not mine," he said, eyes welling up with tears. "I have a new life with Marty," he smiled. "This is what it feels like to be normal. Guess nothing can blow up on me now."
Starr told her mother and Marcie that she had told Todd that she was about to have the baby. Starr pointed out that Todd hasn't been bothering them lately. Blair couldn't believe that he'd changed. Marcie remarked that Todd had been nice. "Maybe babies are miracles," Starr mused. Starr asked Marcie what they were thinking about naming the child. Marcie said they'd be naming the baby Hope. Dr. Joplin reported that the baby was just fine. Marcie, Starr and Blair were overjoyed. Dr. Joplin went out to get the baby as Marcie started to make some phone calls. Starr reported that she was hungry but not ready to see Langston or Cole yet. Starr started to remember the whole pregnancy process and said "it was just awesome" as she fell into her mother's arms. A blissful Marcie returned. "Because of you, I have a daughter," a teary Marcie gushed.
Marty crawled into bed. Seconds later, John came crashing through her bedroom window. "Marty!" he screamed. She was terrified. John tried to get Marty to leave with him but she pulled a gun on him instead. John begged her to put the gun down. "I know who you are and I know what you did," she claimed as the gun went off. Marty shocked John by telling him that Todd told her he was there to kill her. She repeated Todd's version of what happened in Ireland. "Marty, you have this all backwards," John tried to explain. "You are not safe here." Marty accused John of just wanting to finish off the job. "I believe what Todd told me," she yelled.
"Everything Todd told you was a lie. The accident happened, but not the way he said," John continued. He begged her to look into his eyes. John tried to explain that Ramsey shot out the tires. She thought that Ramsey saved her, and after that, Todd had taken care of her. "He told you these things to keep you scared and dependent on him," John said, daring her to walk out with him. Marty kept the gun pointing at John as she denied everything he said. "What did Manning do to you?" John asked. Marty informed John that he was leaving. Todd entered the room as John said, "Loves you? He raped you."
Tuesday
Dr. Joplin and Janet were horrified to find Starr's baby dead. The doctor blamed Janet, who swore that neither she nor Todd had anything to do with it. Dr. Joplin then blamed herself fretted over how to break the news.
Starr, Blair and Marcie had fun while they waited for the baby. Marcie told Starr and a skeptical Blair that Todd seemed to have made peace with her. Michael arrived to congratulate the ladies. Dr. Joplin arrived and gently broke the news to everyone. Marcie and Starr were devastated. Blair demanded answers. Starr told Marcie she was sorry. Marcie hugged her and told her she'd never forget what Starr tried to do for her. Starr wanted a few minutes alone.
Cole, Langston and Dorian worried in the waiting room. Blair arrived and shared the bad news. She urged Cole to go talk to Starr. "It was a girl," she said. Dorian and Langston reeled.
Bess arrived at the vineyard and explained to Starr's child that Jessica needed her. She told the baby girl that since Tess couldn't help, it was up to Bess. Bess went down the list of all who would suffer due to the switch. She hoped that Natalie and Jared survived the explosion.
At Llanfair, newly freed Natalie and Jared told Viki and Charlie about Tess' stomach pains. Viki deduced that she was in labor. Bo arrived and told Charlie that they owed him for saving them from the bomb. Clint arrived and embraced Natalie. Natalie finally apologized to Clint for all her lies, and he apologized for being so cold to her. Clint promised that he would never shut his daughter out again. Natalie and Jared kept quiet as Viki and Charlie told Clint and Bo how Tina was so helpful. Viki realized that Tess/Jessica was probably at the vineyard and everyone dispersed. Bo told Natalie and Jared that he would need their statements. Natalie asked Charlie if he and Viki were back together. He told her things were on the right track. Charlie decided to get back to the hotel and shower, but not before hugging his son and telling him that they had a second chance. Natalie and Jared kissed. "Let's get out of here," Jared said, and the two walked out.
Cole arrived in Starr's room. The look on her face told him everything. Dr. Joplin showed Michael and Marcie to her office before breaking down. Marcie tearfully approached the baby. Meanwhile, Jessica woke up at the vineyard and saw the baby lying on her chest. Viki and the rest stormed in.
"Loves you? He raped you!" John yelled to Marty as Todd arrived. McBain tried to reason with Marty while Todd continued to manipulate her. John informed her that Todd was the ringleader of the gang rape all those years ago. Marty didn't believe him, saying that she'd seen pictures of the rapists. John told her about Todd's plastic surgery. Marty was even more shocked when John told her what a good mother she was. When John realized that Todd never told her about Cole, he noted that she had a son. Marty demanded that Todd give her answers. She was horrified as she realized that John was telling the truth.
Wednesday
Tina and Cain watched the news and learned about the explosion at Llanfair.
Tina was relieved to learn that everyone was alive. She told Cain everything about Tess and the secret room. Cain was confused and suggested that they "hightail it out of this one-horse town." Tina, however, didn't want to run away. "I have to stay and face the music so I can see my daughter," she explained. Tina asked Cain to always think of her on the anniversary of the puppies' birth. Soon, she ran into Natalie and Jared in Viki's kitchen. Uh-oh.
Viki and Clint found Jessica/Tess/Bess on the floor of the house she had shared with Nash. Jessica was horrified to learn that Tess had been out and remembered nothing of giving birth. "This is a beautiful child," Viki glowed. Jessica asked about Bree. She promised her parents that she was indeed Jessica and not Tess. Later at the hospital, Jessica worried about what might happen if Tess returned.
Starr wept as she told Cole their baby was dead. She begged him not to leave. Starr began to wonder if she had taken better care of herself, then maybe... "It's not your fault," Cole assured her. "Why did this have to happen to us?" Starr cried. Together, they went Dr. Joplin's office and said goodbye to their baby daughter.
Earlier, Michael watched Marcie talk to dead baby Hope. She wept as she told her how much she already loved her. "You will always have a life right here in my heart," she vowed. Michael was so sad for Marcie's loss. "I thought it would be Todd who would take this baby from you," Michael said, but "it just happened." An emotionally drained Marcie left Dr. Joplin's office. Michael insisted on going with her. The pair ran into Viki in the hallway, with a nurse holding Jessica's "baby." They told her the news about Starr's baby. Viki was horrified. Marcie started to cry again and Michael did his best to comfort her.
Todd confirmed to Marty that John was right. "You have a son," he said. Marty began to cry. "Am I really a mother?" she asked. John nodded. "I knew it, and you didn't tell me," she snapped at Todd. Manning explained that he did use Marty to get back at people who had hurt him, at first. John wanted Marty to leave with him. "Shut up," she replied, furious at both of them. Todd tried to explain that things had changed for him. "My life was a mess before I found you," Todd claimed. Marty learned that her son's name is Cole. "Your grandchild is my grandchild," she said, putting two and two together. "Yes," Todd confirmed. He promised he was almost ready to tell her the truth. "So what happened?" she asked. Todd tried to convince her that "I'm not that man anymore. Marty, you changed me. But I was afraid to lose you." John listened in disbelief. "You should have told me," Marty insisted. Then John heard the plan that Marty and Todd were going to get Starr and Cole's baby. "You told her that?" John said incredulously. "That's a lie, too?" Marty asked. John cleared it up that by saying that Marcie was going to adopt the baby. "There's no excuse for what I did. I was out of my mind," Todd yelled. Marty grabbed her head started screaming, as if to block out the realities she was being confronted with. Still holding the gun, Marty listened as John told her what really happened the night the van blew up in Ireland. "I've fallen for you and I know that you've fallen for me," Todd countered, hoping to get her to understand. Marty asked Todd if he had raped her. "Yes," Todd said. John grabbed Marty to keep her from falling.
Thursday
Nora told Bo that Jessica had been found, but added that they will have to book her for attempted murder charges. Jessica tried to recall the last thing she remembered — it was Nash's funeral, where she blamed Natalie and Jared for Nash's death. "Natalie and Jared have paid for that," Viki said cryptically. Jessica had a nightmare about giving birth to a baby who wasn't crying. Clint assured his daughter that her baby was perfect.
Bo listened to John's cryptic message. "What the hell is this?" Bo wondered.
Nora explained that John had mouthed off at a judge and had been arrested for contempt of court. Bo asked Antonio to check on John, who was in lockup. Bo knew that John's troubles had something to do with Todd. Antonio reported that John had escaped from the cell. The uniformed cop added that John had said Marty Saybrooke was alive. Bo and Nora looked stunned.
Dorian reassured Blair that Starr would be fine. Blair said that John had told her something big was about to come out, and it would involve Todd. Dorian thought Todd might have had something to do with the death of Starr's baby. Blair thought that was a horrifying thing to say. "He would never want Starr to suffer," Blair told her aunt. "Don't hate him in front of me." Dorian went off to find answers but ran into Viki, who told her about Jessica's baby. Viki thanked Dorian for helping her recall the secret room, which led to finding Natalie and Jared. Dorian went to find Dr. Joplin. Blair listened to a message from John, apologizing for being preoccupied. Blair returned his call and asked him to call her back. "A lot has happened," she said sadly.
Todd finally admitted that he lead Marty's gang rape 15 years ago. "I was there. I did it," he said to a stunned Marty, who kept swinging a gun around. "I was the one who wanted to hurt you the most," Todd noted. "Was it good for you?"
Marty said sarcastically. She kept asking Todd questions despite John saying, "You don't have to listen to this." Todd reminded her that he had practically begged her to walk out just days ago. He continued to try to convince Marty that he had changed. "It's a weird twist of fate that brought you and I together," Todd said. "It's not fate — it's kidnapping," sniped John. "It's a new beginning," Todd argued. "You raped her," John repeated. "That was the man I used to be, not the man I am now," Todd explained. John couldn't believe that Todd had asked Marty to marry him. "What is going on here?" John said. Todd assured Marty that everything he had told her recently was true. "You are in a fantasy world," Marty muttered. "You raped me all over again." When John realized that Todd and Marty had sex, McBain beat Todd up. Then he put a gun to Todd's head. "Pull the trigger," Todd encouraged. "That's too good for you," John decided, pocketing the gun. Marty, however, pointed her gun directly at Todd.
Natalie and Jared told Tina that Jessica had given birth. Nat and Jared were furious with Tina for not helping them, and they dared her to tell Viki what had happened. "Does she know?" Tina asked gingerly. "My mom doesn't know your part in what Tess did, but believe me, she will," Natalie vowed to a nervous Tina. She tried to explain that she had actually saved their lives, as she helped Viki and Charlie find them. Tina added that she had done (or not done) certain things because of what Carlo was threatening to do to Sarah. Natalie made a deal with Tina: leave town and "I won't tell Viki that you did nothing to save us." Viki arrived home. "Tina! Boy, am I glad you're here," Viki said as her sister panicked.
Sarah and Cristian couldn't make love because Lola and Vanessa were upstairs and they were stuck on the daybed. Cris tried to joke his way out of it, but Sarah griped they weren't going to be having any sex while Lola and Vanessa were Chris' houseguests. Sarah left. Vanessa came down for a glass of water and admired Cris' bare chest.
Friday
Viki updated Tina on Jessica's status. She regretted having gone to Africa.
"You were doing what you needed to do," Tina assured her. Viki hugged her sister. "You and I have a lot to catch up on," Viki noted. "I'm leaving Llanview," Tina answered, surprising Viki. Tina confessed that she saw Tess lock Natalie in the basement. "I knew what was going on all along. Tess was blackmailing me,"
Tina explained. Viki was stunned. "I thought for once in your life you had done something that was completely selfless," Viki said. "I know," said a guilty Tina. Viki refused to listen to any of Tina's explanations. "You want it all," Viki snapped. "I could have lost both my daughters because once again you put your needs before everyone else's. I want you out of this house — and this time don't ever come back." Later, Viki sobbed alone in the kitchen.
Natalie and Jared made a toast to their freedom. Nat hoped that Jessica would eventually forgive her. "Tess left us for dead; Jessica could never do that," she reasoned.
Marcie looked sadly into the nursery at Jessica's baby. "She was born the same time as Starr's baby," Marcie said. Michael worried at what his ex might do. She lamented that everything she loves gets taken away from her. Michael said he was worried about her. Cole joined them and Marcie ran to hug him. Cole said that Starr wanted to see her. Once Marcie left, Cole looked at baby Brennan. Michael asked how he was feeling. "I wish I could make sense of this," Cole said.
Blair begged Starr to get some rest. Cole asked Blair if they could bury the baby next to Marty. Starr thought they should ask Marcie first. Starr wanted to talk to Todd. Blair thought perhaps they should wait a few days. "He might make a bad situation worse," Blair warned. "I want to hear his voice," Starr insisted. Todd didn't pick up his phone. On the radio, Blair and Starr heard that John was in jail. Blair left and Marcie came in. Starr blamed herself for losing the baby. Marcie tried to comfort the teen. "You believed in me when nobody else did," Marcie recalled. Marcie asked Cole to sit by Starr. "I don't think she should be alone," Marcie said.
At the police station, Bo and Nora tried to process the revelation that John said Marty was alive. Bo thought it might be true. "Do you think he's been making this up?" Nora asked. They couldn't believe Marty wouldn't have fought Todd. "Why would she stay with the guy?" Bo wondered. Blair charged into Bo's office and asked what was up with John. "What could be worse than what Todd has already done?" Blair asked.
Marty pointed her gun at a badly beaten up Todd. "It's not over until I say it's over," she sneered. Marty continued to taunt Todd. "Don't do this," John said. "How did you keep my son from me?" Marty demanded. Todd's phone began to ring. "Go ahead, kill me. It's what I deserve," a barely-conscious Todd advised. "You are not a killer," John told Marty. Marty started to cry but didn't lower the gun. John eventually convinced Marty not to shoot Todd. "If you shoot him, he wins," John said. Marty dropped the gun and left. Antonio, Talia and some other officers charged into Todd's house. "It's okay," John said. "Marty? I can't believe it's really you," said a surprised Antonio. "Do I know you?" Marty asked. John explained that Marty didn't remember anything because of the accident.
Antonio asked Todd, "Who did this to you?" "I did," Todd replied. Todd was taken to the hospital. Blair saw John back at the police station in handcuffs. In the hospital hallway, Cole looked up and saw Marty.
