One Life To Live Recaps

OLTL Week of September 10, 2007

Monday

Jared dropped in on his new business partner, Nash, and was surprised to
hear that Jessica wasn't home. After ensuring that Jessica wouldn't be home
for a while, Jared delved into his proposal to jazz up the vineyard with a
restaurant, a gift shop, a wine bar and so on. They sampled some of their
competitors' wine and finished the bottle even though it left something to
be desired. As they shared another glass, Nash opened up about his complex
history with Jessica, admitting that he'd nearly lost her that summer.

Meanwhile, Jess visited Marty and apologized for not visiting her in jail.
Marty recalled how terrifying it was to think she killed someone, but took
comfort in the fact that she'd soon have her marriage annulled. Marty went
on about how much John helped her and Cole when she was in jail and even
before that, prompting Jessica to hint at the possibility of something
romantic with John, but Marty just said she was grateful for his help and
she'd leave it at that. Jess showed Marty cell-phone photos of Bree and
talked about how happy she is, despite the heartache she went through with
Antonio. Jess mentioned John one more time before leaving, and Marty
insisted that they were just friends.

At the PD, the guard told Blair and another guard that Todd hit him and took
his gun, mumbling something about his son, just as Todd stormed the
courtroom and demanded his son. He pointed to Tommy, who was in Marcie's
arms, and said, "That right there is my son." John wanted to know how Todd
got out of jail, and Marcie wondered why Todd was pointing at Tommy. Todd
stepped up to Tommy and sneered, "You're mine," in front of Marcie and
Michael. Marcie still didn't understand what was going on, but Todd
explained to the judge that Tommy McBain is really his son. Adriana sent
Tommy home with Roxy so that Marcie and Michael could talk to John in
private. Todd assured everyone that this wasn't over as he was cuffed. Nora
tried to get answers from Todd, but he was only interested in Rex's
involvement in the cover-up of Tommy's identity. Adriana played innocent in
front of Nora, while Todd informed Rex that he'd have his head on a platter
for forging his son's death certificate. "Revenge is all you've got left,"
snapped Rex. Blair scolded Todd for his prison break, arguing that he'd just
made matters worse for himself.

Bo escorted Lindsay back to her cell, and Lindsay confided in Bo that she'd
known that Tommy was really Todd's son for a long time but kept it from
Marcie to protect her. Bo pointed out that this really strengthens Nora's
case against her, and if she is convicted of murder one, she could get the
death penalty. He advised her to be careful of what she says from now on.
She thanked him for being there for her and marveled at their close
friendship given their sordid history. Before he locked up her cell, she
asked if there was any chance that Todd would get custody of Tommy. Bo
guessed that even if the court goes against Todd, he'll probably break the
law to get Tommy.

John explained to Marcie that Todd's son's death certificate was forged and
that Tommy is most certainly Todd's son. Michael, pretending to hear this
for the first time, tried to convince Marcie that the story made sense.
Marcie continued to argue that this is beyond the realm of possibility, but
John claimed he'd seen proof and that Spencer kept Tommy with the McBains
because he just wanted to stick it to Todd. Marcie started to come to terms
with everything she was hearing, then noted that Michael didn't seem as
surprised as she did. John jumped in and defended his brother, saying Mike
is used to reacting calmly to all kinds of situations because of his job.
John assured Marcie that he would do everything he could to protect her and
her family.

Jessica returned home to find Jared with Nash, and she didn't seem too
pleased to meet Jared. At the courthouse, Marcie cried and wondered what she
and her husband would do. Mike said he didn't know; she asked him to promise
her that they wouldn't lose Tommy. John returned to the courtroom. Todd
asked what he'd done with Tommy and the McBains. Todd persuaded Lindsay's
lawyer to work for him, so Hot Lawyer Guy asked John to bring back Tommy.

Tuesday

Jessica was wide-eyed upon meeting Jared Banks, who said he felt like they
already knew each other. As soon as Nash was out of the room, Jessica asked
Jared what he was doing there and how he found her. "We have a lot of
unfinished business," he told her. She explained to him that she’s a
different person now and offered to buy him out of the vineyard so that he'd
leave town. He reminded her that their business is personal, unless she'd
forgotten what happened between them. She said she remembered everything,
just as Nash returned and asked if everything was okay. Jessica looked
spooked, which seemed to please Jared.

Langston came by at a rather late hour to see Starr, prompting Dorian to ask
why Langston wasn't at home with her parents. Langston answered that her
parents' flight was delayed and the teens ran upstairs. Langston was
delighted to hear Starr's news about Todd finding her little brother.
Langston asked Starr if she'd be spending a lot of time at her dad's house
now that TJ's coming home. Starr assured her that she'd be around and noted
that Langston's parents don't seem to mind that she and Markko spend a lot
of time together. Langston admitted to Starr that her parents don't even
know about her and Markko. Starr remembered that she wanted to ask Marcie if
she needs a babysitter for Tommy and remarked how Tommy always gives her a
secret smile. Starr found a piece of paper on which she'd written wishes for
the previous school year, and read off her list, which ended with "I want to
make good friends with funny, smart people." The girls made wish lists for
the coming year, but Langston seemed stumped.

Clint arrived at La Boulaie and asked Dorian why she looked so concerned.
Dorian said she didn't understand why Langston's parents were out of town
the night before their daughter starts school, and noted that Langston
seemed a little nervous. Clint advised her to not to butt into Langston's
life, then told Dorian that he saw Jess's picture on Jared's cell phone for
a brief moment. Dorian was tickled to hear Clint asking her if he should
interfere in his daughter's life.

At the courthouse, Todd explained to the judge that "all of these people"
were keeping his son from him. Meanwhile, Marcie cried and begged Michael to
promise her that they wouldn't lose Tommy. Roxy showed up with Tommy, and
Todd wanted everyone to stop calling him Tommy. The judge agreed to keep the
child in the courtroom and asked John to bring Marcie and Michael back into
the courtroom. "The kid's as good as yours," Todd's new lawyer advised him.
Marcie and Michael returned to the courtroom, while Nora told John that she
figured out Lindsay's motive for killing Spencer. The judge asked everyone
to remain quiet and listen, including Todd. She said that she takes the
allegations of a stolen child very seriously but for tonight, Todd would
return to his cell. Todd requested that Tommy not be sent home with these
"baby thieves." Marcie explained to the judge that she and Michael legally
adopted Tommy, unaware that his father was living. In one of her more
eloquent moments, Roxy asked the judge to see that Tommy is helpless in this
situation and it would be unfair to put him in the hands of strangers. The
judge agreed and allowed the McBains to take Tommy home, much to Todd's
chagrin. Todd vowed that he'd take Tommy home soon enough.

Back in his cell, Todd discussed the case with new lawyer Lewis, who tried
to make him understand what they're up against. Todd was then treated to a
visit from Blair, who explained that she didn't want Todd to go off and do
something stupid (like storming the courtroom at Lindsay's arraignment) and
that's why she 'fessed up to seeing Todd beat Miles. Todd failed to see her
point and asked Blair to leave. Meanwhile, Nora explained to John that she
feels very strongly about children being kept from their biological parents,
given her own history with Matthew and Bo. This seemed to trouble John.

After Jared left, Nash asked Jessica if she was really okay. She said she
was just tired. Before heading to the kitchen to get her some tea, Nash
remarked that Jared is smart and might actually work out as a business
partner. Meanwhile, Dorian told Clint that if he really is concerned about
Jess, he should mention the cell-phone pic to her. They headed upstairs for
some quality time, while Langston and Starr finished their wish lists and
hoped some of their wishes would come true. Marcie obsessed over Tommy,
clutching the baby monitor and checking on him every five seconds. Michael
assured his wife that no one would take Tommy away from them and that they
were going to fight with everything they have. Todd paced in his cell and
grumbled about getting his son back.

Wednesday

Marty and Cole enjoyed their first breakfast together in weeks, and Cole wondered why they hadn't heard from John since Marty's release. Just as Marty stuck her foot in her mouth regarding her feelings for John, a news report came over the TV about the McBains's baby drama. Marty and Cole were upset for Marcie and Michael. After Cole left for school, Marty's face brightened upon receiving a delivery.

Meanwhile, John went to see Bo, who showed him The Sun's latest headline: "McBaby Thieves" and asked how long John had known that Tommy is Todd's son. John admitted that he'd known for too long and was trying to protect his family. Bo understood John's predicament as he recalled planning to arrest Asa right before his death. Anyone who knew the secret and said nothing is culpable, Bo reminded him. Pointing out that John made himself an accessory, Bo reluctantly suspended the lieutenant pending a further investigation. John quietly handed over his badge and gun, and went to turn over his case files to Antonio.

Dorian asked Starr if Langston was still asleep. Not that it was a problem for her to stay, when her parents are out of town — which is quite often — clarified Dorian. Starr said she'd gone home to get some things for the first day of school. Blair arrived to tell Starr some difficult news, but Dorian beat her to the punch by referring to today's front page story. Starr turned to the newspaper and cried, "Tommy McBain is my brother?!" then proceeded to kick herself for not realizing that Tommy is her brother when she babysat for him. Blair warned Starr that bringing Tommy into their family wouldn't be as simple as one might think.

Todd's lawyer (looking slightly more beefcake than the previous day's legal hottie) introduced Todd to his unlikely savior, Miles. Miles admitted that he sent Todd on a "wild goose chase" to Chicago but was now going to drop the charges so that they could call it even. As Todd's hearing got underway, Miles stood up to inform the judge that he did not plan to testify against Todd and wants to drop the assault charges. However, the lawyer from the DA's office informed the judge that they wanted to prosecute Todd's jailbreak to the fullest extent. Todd's attorney explained to the judge that Todd was pushed to the brink because of his missing son. Nevertheless, the judge deemed Todd's actions criminal and sentenced him to two years in prison, which he agreed to suspend on the basis of nolo contendere, adding community service and a fine. "I hope you're happy," John sneered to Miles.

Meanwhile, the McBaby Thieves discussed their legal strategy before meeting with their new lawyer, Judy Schulman Brown. Judy advised them that no one would up and snatch Tommy out of their arms. Marcie asked straight away if there was some way for them to keep Tommy. Judy sat down to look over all their supporting evidence, including the fake death certificate, which caused Judy to wonder who was behind the forgery. Judy was brutally honest with the McBains that — in this type of case — custody often goes to the biological parents, but this case is also very unique. Marcie continued to look for a glimmer of hope. Judy was clear that this wouldn't be a slam-dunk, but promised Marcie that she would do everything she can to help them.

As Todd's hearing let out, John called Michael to warn him that Todd is a free man. Marty ran into Miles at the courthouse and informed him that she was there to file their annulment papers. Cole stopped by La Boulaie to accompany Starr to school, prompting Blair to remark that Todd should be there to see Starr off to school. "He's only focused on his youngest child now," chirped Dorian. Meanwhile, Michael and Marcie were thrown by a visit from Todd, flanked by cops, holding a court order.

Thursday

Natalie was "working hard" at BE when she received an instant message from $InTheBank$ asking what she was wearing. It didn't take long for her to figure out that it was Jared (shirtless in his bed) begging for a job. "Jackass," Natalie muttered as she logged off. Jessica arrived to tell her sister all about her trip to London, how much Zane had grown and how great Kelly is doing. She asked where Viki was. Natalie said she hadn't seen their mom in days, but that she was most likely at an annual publishers' conference. Natalie explained that the jackass she was referring to earlier is just some guy who lied to her to try to get a job at BE. Jess asked his name and was obviously weirded out when Natalie answered, "Jared Banks." Natalie was surprised to hear that her sister knew Jared, but Jess said she met him last night. Nat wasn't too happy to learn that Jared had bought into the vineyard and was becoming a fixture in their lives.

Meanwhile, Nash paid Jared a visit at his motel room to go over the new business plan. As they fell into an easy rapport, Jared noted that they are looking at the start of a beautiful friendship. Jared clarified his financial position, which is that he basically put everything he's got into the vineyard and has just enough to cover the motel. Nash realized they might have more in common than he thought. Jared then received a surprising message from Natalie asking to meet, and they set up a rendezvous at his motel.

Miles told Marty that he still loves her but hopes she finds happiness, just as John eavesdropped nearby. Miles expressed a few more compliments and regrets before walking off with his copy of the annulment papers and exchanged steely glances with John. Marty expressed her sympathy to John for his brother's situation. He told her he'd been suspended, prompting Marty to suggest they both spend their day off with an early happy hour.

Blair peeled potatoes over the front page of The Sun and continued to beat herself up over getting Todd put in jail. Dorian realized that Blair was simply worried about how her actions would affect any chance of a reconciliation between Blair and Todd, but Blair assured Dorian that she and Todd both resolved not to reconcile and she was really worried about losing his friendship. Dorian told Blair that she probably made herself an enemy of Todd. Blair resolved to fix that and took off for the penthouse.

When Todd showed up at Marcie and Michael's door with his court order, Marcie told him there was no way he was getting anywhere near her son. Judy examined the document and informed her clients that the order is requesting a DNA sample to establish paternity. Despite Marcie's strong reservations, the lab technician took DNA swabs from both Todd and Tommy, while Tommy cried and Marcie had to force his mouth open. Afterward, Todd assured Marcie that he'd soon be taking Tommy home to his real family. Marcie explained that Tommy had become a part of their family and even whipped out a book of photos she'd taken to document Tommy's first everything. Michael pointed out that Todd wasn't there when some trashy couple was dragging Tommy around from bar to bar and when Michael and Marcie had to fight in family court to adopt Tommy. Todd left, and Judy advised the McBains that the only way to win this case is to prove that Todd is an unfit father. "I know exactly how to do that," said Marcie.

John and Marty ended up at the docks so that she could get rid of the last vestige of her marriage to Miles: their marriage certificate. She wanted to wad it up and toss it, but John had a better idea. He fashioned a handy-dandy paper airplane and remarked that he'd learned how to make one from his father and had hoped to teach it to Tommy. He revealed to Marty that he found out weeks ago that Todd was Tommy's biological father and that's why he was suspended.

Jess went to confront Jared at his motel room and started banging on the door. To their mutual surprise, Nash opened the door. Todd found Blair waiting at the penthouse for him. She said she wasn't leaving until she made things right between them. Marty sent her marriage certificate over the water and thanked John for saving her. She rewarded him with an impromptu kiss. Natalie and Miles happened upon the docks just in time to witness the buss.

Friday

Marcie awakened a sleeping (and nearly naked!) Rex in the steam room,
demanding to talk to him. "I'm half naked," he moaned. Marcie didn't care,
insisting that they do something right then to make sure she and Michael
keep Tommy. Meanwhile, Roxy paid Michael a visit and asked how far Rex is
being dragged into the Tommy custody battle. Michael explained that he needs
to do whatever is necessary to keep Tommy; Roxy supported that but didn't
want Rex to get hurt in the process. Soon, Marcie and Rex returned; Roxy
offered to help them and Michael fight Todd. Marcie intended to prove that
Todd's an unfit parent. She realized that Rex knew about Tommy's true
paternity, noting that had he come clean to them, they could've hired a
lawyer and taken precautions. "You're a nice woman," Rex replied. "Would you
really have been able to keep it secret?" Michael turned away, visibly
guilty for also keeping the secret. "We'll figure something out," Michael
assured her. After Marcie went to check on Tommy, Michael admitted to Rex
that Marcie would never forgive him if she knew he was aware of the Tommy
situation.

Jessica was surprised to see Jared with Nash. She told Nash how Jared has
been harassing Natalie; Jared played dumb about knowing that the ladies are
twins. He said the interview with Nat was a coincidence, but Jess said that
it was an ambush. "I don't even know you ... do I?" Jared asked Jessica.
She replied that he doesn't know anything about her, but that he's tried to
pull one over on the Buchanans in the past. However, Nash stuck up for
Jared, agreeing that they've been on the same page when it comes to the
vineyard. Soon, Nash got a call and stepped out, leaving Jess and Jared
alone for a moment. "Why'd you try to ruin my life?" Jared asked her. Nash
returned and told Jared that he's confident Natalie can take care of
herself.

Natalie and Miles were heartbroken to come upon John and Marty smooching on
the docks. Natalie made some awkward small talk with John about Todd and the
custody battle. Meanwhile, Miles approached Marty. "I guess you're moving
on," he said. "It's none of your business," she shot back. Miles stormed
away, upset. Natalie chased after him, but he didn't feel like talking. Nat
then eavesdropped as Marty complained to John about Natalie walking in right
as they kissed. John stated that he still cares about Natalie. Marty cheered
up as she and John flirted and ate ice cream.

Natalie paid Jared a visit and reamed him out for going after her and
Jessica. "We're both Buchanans and that counts for something around here."
She accused him of trying to charm his way into their world. "We don't need
you," she stated, going into a thinly-veiled rant about John. After prodding
her, Natalie opened up to him about seeing John kiss Marty. She quickly
recovered and resumed her angry attitude but later ended up sharing a drink
with Jared.... Nash tried to calm Jessica down by singing to her — very,
very badly.... Miles went to the steam room, where he sat and brooded.

At the penthouse, Todd refused to forgive Blair, but she wouldn't leave
until they made amends. A stubborn Blair insisted on helping him win Tommy.
"It's the court decision," she said. "That child is mine," Todd growled. He
wondered if Blair was planning to testify against him. She said that she
thinks he's a wonderful father most of the time, but fears he'll go on the
run with Tommy if he doesn't win. "I don't want you to blow it," she said.
"Tommy's not your son!" he shouted. Blair was unmoved and shouted right back
at him, calling him "mean." But not "Mean, mean, mean," like DAYS's Susan
Banks. She encouraged him to be grateful that Tommy's alive, but Todd was
more focused on the fact that Tommy had been "stolen" from him. Blair then
urged him to work something out with the McBains since they're the only
parents Tommy knows. Todd was unmoved. After, Blair reminded him how he took
Jack from her and implored him to play by the rules in court. Todd feared
that the McBains wouldn't. He asked her not to go to court, but she said she
was going to be there until the trial ended. "I'm on your side, Todd, so get
over it," she stated.
